What's new

Is it time for Lahore Qalandars to look beyond Aaqib Javed?

Get rid of Aaqib ? why not , that's what you do with a coach after winning the trophy. :genius

So under Aqib, Lahore produce a champion team. Feels like it is kind of deserved, making Shaheen the captain. Getting Haris and Shaheen to create havoc together.

Buying Zaman Khan as Emerging player. Some really good calls which in hindsight won them the comp.

Didn’t see him around for the final, not sure might be ill.

Aqib has covid , he was watching from his room , Ramiz mentioned that .

Nice gesture by LQ to deliver the trophy to Aaqib who was in isolation due to COVID-19

He was bound to fluke it once. And got lucky he had someone like Shaheen and Fakhar in the form of their life. Two players who didn't need AJ to do well.

Take those out, heck take even Shaheen out and they'd lost.

I say this as a LQ fan.

He's v lucky he wasn't sacked for 6 ghatiya seasons.

On possible replacement of Aaqib Javed

Sameen Rana speaking to Saj:

"My presence in the dugout made it a lot easier for us to believe in Aaqib Bhai."

"When you are an owner, if you are not sitting in the dugout, you tend to get information second-hand."

"So, somebody who is sitting there, who's managing the team will give you the information. And always in cricket what I've noticed is that there is blame culture. So even the players will blame the wicket, the condition, many things, many factor because it's a game of uncertainty and you always try to find an excuse and not many people are brave enough to raise their hands and say this is my mistake."

"I was in the dugout and watching all those things happening in front of my own eyes and it wasn't very difficult for us to believe in Aaqib Bhai."

"I'm not saying that we never thought of replacing him, we did think about it, and I went on a kind of a coach hunting process."

"I interviewed many, many coaches in that process after like the second or third year with big names, some of the biggest name you can even think of in cricketing franchise cricketing world."

"I reached out to some of the famous IPL coaches and my question to them was that how are you going to manage this team and what is your philosophy?"

"From 99.9% of the coaches, the answer was exactly the same what I had seen Aaqib doing in our dugout so there was no reason after listening to make a change for the sake of change."

There was a time when LQ fans wanted him to be replaced at any cost but now with the back to back titles, I am not seeing this happening in the next few years. He has been with the franchise from the beginning and has great bond with whole of the management, owners and also with the players.

Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

Change doesn't always produce great results.

Aaqib deserves some credit for the Qalandars revival and the LQ players have a lot of respect for him.

T20 coaching is very different from coaching an international team where you are answerable for all formats. Don't think Aqib is good enough for the international level.

Sameen Rana on Aaqib Javed's future with Lahore Qalandars :

"We haven't decided anything yet. Well, Aqib bhai is a part of our brand, has been here for too long and also has a great contribution for our franchise. Infact, he also has played a great role in our two title wins so instead of replacing a man, we shall try to eliminate the flaw in our process. Well, it is very easy to put the blame on someone and kick him out as coach or player. If you see in IPL, RCB and Delhi Capitals have changed 5 to 6 coaches but to no avail (in winning title). So after we had a bad tournament, we shall try to fix the flaws in our process. It's not like we are adamant that we won't replace Aaqib Bhai or myself. If someone's removal can help the process even if it's mine or Aaqib bhai removal we are open to it"
