He is slowly declining into a specialist captain, which is a crying shame for a batsman of his talent. Perhaps he should take a step back from captaincy and regain some batting form. A few of his decisions may be holding the side back as well, such as the continuous backing of Pujara and Rahane at this stage when neither can barely string a decent innings together.

Virat Kohli has now won 16 Test matches away from home - the fourth-best.

He has five more wins than Sourav Ganguly, and seven less than Clive Lloyd, who tops the list.

Clive Lloyd: 23 wins
Graeme Smith: 22 wins
Ricky Ponting: 18 wins
Virat Kohli: 16 wins

Even if he is done as a batter, I don’t have a problem with specialist captains personally. If they are good enough at what they do — as Virat Kohli certainly appears to be — then they are worth 2 or 3 places in the team alone, let alone 1 imo.

Kohli may be out of form with the bat, but Indian team needs his presence in the team.
No one can manage our pacers like him and no one is better skipper than him in overseas conditions.
He is definitely going to break Graeme Smith's record of 53 wins in next couple of years.
India need Kohli-the captain 👌

That’s not really true. We showed in Australia last year that we can play attacking cricket even without Kohli. Time and time again Kohli sitting out of a tournament hasn’t affected the result.

As a team we cannot be so personality dependent. With such a strong system in place, no one person could be held responsible for the results. Otherwise we end up like Pakistan where they still look for that messiah character to come and win tournaments. If it’s system dependent a team will do well in the long run (with ups and down) with an upward trajectory

The wins in 2021 - gabba, centurion, oval , lords et all had the stamp of kohli and shastri as the engine driving this. It wsa his passion for test cricket, its spirit and legacy that vk thrives on and has taken India to such heightes. a lot of guys just rate a cricketer from the scores or wickets in thei rmost recent match and cant see the bigger pic.

India have never lost a test match defending 200 or more runs under Virat Kohli's captaincy.

Did India miss their regular Test captain in the second Test vs SA?

Kohli coming back to the team and winning the series would be exact opposite of what happened last year.

That will surely be a big eye opener for Rahane Bh@kts.

Obviously, actually Rahul is not a suitable candidate for captaincy, not sure what the TM sees in him.

Probably. You can't expect first time captain to use resources the same way as Kohli. But One pacer was down so it's not just about captain here.

Kohli always wanted Rahane as a replacement but our stupid selectors thrown it to KL .

Always Wonderful To Play Under Virat Kohli, He Brings A Lot Of Energy: Jasprit Bumrah

India vs South Africa, 3rd Test: Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets to bowl out South Africa for 210 in their first innings. After the final session, he lauded captain Virat Kohli for his energy.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday said that it is always wonderful to play under the leadership of Virat Kohli as he brings a lot of energy to the side. Bumrah took five wickets in the first innings as India bowled out South Africa for 210, gaining a slender 13-run lead. The Indian pacer had made his Test debut at Newlands, Cape Town in 2018 and four years later, he returned with five wickets.

"I made my Test debut under Virat Kohli, it is always wonderful. He is always there to back us and he always gives all the bowlers a lot of motivation. He brings a lot of energy to the side. It is always good to play under him. It has been special as I started my Test journey in Cape Town and then to come back here, I am very happy. Personal performances are always good but when you give impact performances, that gives you more satisfaction," said Bumrah during a virtual press conference after stumps on Day 2.

Bumrah's dominant bowling performance backed up by a gritty batting performance by Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli helped India recover some lost ground against South Africa on Day 2. At stumps, India's score read 57/2-- with the visitors extending their lead to 70 runs. Kohli (14*) and Pujara (9*) are currently unbeaten at the crease.

"There is always a lot of noise but the success, whatever comes is a byproduct. So basically what I try to do is have a routine and follow it again and again. Someday I would get a wicket, someday someone else would get the wicket.

"We as a unit want to focus on our routines, there will be doubters but that is something an individual has to decide. When I have paid attention to outside noise, it does not help. I try to control what is there in my control," said Bumrah.

"Playing in South Africa, I made my Test debut on this ground so it is special to come back to this ground where I started my Test journey. We were trying to focus on the game, we are trying to focus on what we can do and everyone wants to contribute. We wanted to create pressure, in the last game we had an injury (Siraj). Here everybody was fine," he added.

When asked what would be a safe total on Cape Town wicket, Bumrah said: "Obviously, there is no magic number that I can say right now that this is the magic number. We will have to assess the wicket quickly. We have bowled on it, it is a new ball wicket. There is some seam movement with the new ball and as soon as the ball gets older, seam goes down and it gets easier. It would be important for us to have good partnerships."

Very childish and ridiculous remarks going on by indian captain and the slip cordon about DRS. These are the kind of comments that look silly even on a forum.

Kohli has completely lost it here. He is going on and on with it.

We all knew he will have a disgraceful end.. well you live by the sword and die by it!

A complete and utter meltdown today from Kohli in the evening session. Series might be in danger of slipping away but one needs to keep a cool head otherwise there really will be zero chance of forcing a victory.

It is this kind of insanity from him that helped India bring England crashing down from a winning position last time remember? Can understand though that you'd like to forget that one :rabada2

Don’t really think that relates to anything here.

Of course it does. He plays the game at an utterly manic level. Some opposition players, fans might not enjoy it, but it's what sometimes induces mental disintegration in the other team.

Like the occasion I referenced :root

Or in this case induced mental disintegration in himself. :boycott

Lol, he threw his toys out of the pram. Mentally he is still a teenager who can't stand losing.

India had controlled the run rate until that stand off and then started leaking runs.

Am sure Dravid wouldn't have liked the comments from Kohli in the last 1 hour of play.

Dravid's leaked tapes in a few years...

[Kohli] is crazy. The guy is an idiot, he’s sick. You think this guy is normal, but he’s not. If he was, he wouldn’t do all the things he does. The last stupid thing, which everyone in the world saw... why do you think he’d do something so stupid?”

If ever captaincy won or lost a match this was it.
His poor captaincy lost the match for Indian yesterday in the evening session.
