Klopp has signed for a lucrative deal at Anfield and brings with him a big reputation. Do you feel he is the right choice to be manager at Liverpool?

I think if the players accept his philosophy and training methods he can be a big hit. His style is relentless and aggressive which suits a stadium like Anfield and Liverpool. Players like Sturridge will struggle under Klopp. Idk if Sturridge will be able to play that relentless style with his injury woes.

Certainly. It's actually remarkable that a club without Champions' League football and 10th in the league table has somehow managed to land one of the best managers available in the world.

Whether he succeeds or not is up for debate (I believe he will), there is absolutely no debating if he is the right choice for Liverpool. They literally couldn't have dreamt of anyone better for the situation they're currently in.

Liverpool needs someone aggressive who can beat up his own players to get the best out of them. Klopp is their man. I hope he didn't become a softy after that short break :moyo

No doubt that he is good.

But will he be able to attract the players to Liverpool or will he make another Dormand and polish talent only to sell them off to bigger clubs.

So far, so good for Klopp.

Great win today.

He will get the best out of can and firminho and the other Europeans for sure

Rodgers arguably preferred English players , which is understable
Jordan Ibe is currently a weak link, shame markovic is still at fenerbahce

Well it seems like the Klopp bubble has burst in January.

Tough month with Liverpool horribly out of form.

He is the right choice when it comes to attack minded Football. Doesn't have the slightest of clues as to how to build a defence. The whole world knows our defence is the worst in the league yet he has not bought anyone to improve the backline this month when he had the chance. This excuse of the correct players not being available doesn't wash with me for one minute it's his his job to find them. I am sicking with him at last for now, will have to reconsider my views if we don't finish in the top four. Losing to the likes of Swansea, Bournmouth and Wolves is not being out of form rather a terrible defence was responsible for it.

he is quality. mane is a big miss for them.
hopefully mane is out tuesday too.
give klopp 1 more summer window and he will stamp his mark next season

He knew that Mane would be missing during the African Cup so should have compensated for that somehow. Any manager or team or manager that depends on one player is in big trouble.

off course u dont want to be in that position but i dont think even klopp expected to be challenging for the league in his first full season. but manec settled ridiculously well with those around him which set the expectation bar a little bit highr than it originally was for the season.
then u lost your 2 best players who were key to raising the expectation hugher than it was originally.

Klopp is the right choice for liverpool. However he needs to understand that the high pressing fast pace game can not be sustained in the premier league over long periods of time and a change of tactics needs to be used at times. Also liverpool defensively are just as shambolic as they were under rogers and that needs to change under klopp which it hasnt. I do think that liverpool will make top 4 which would be a good achievement for klopp and liverpool.

Klopp needs to be given good money to spend by the owners who have thus far given him almost nothing in net spending. I am beginning to seriously worry that we could be having Gillette/Hicks syndrome all over again here with the Fenway Group just in it for the profit like the previous owners were. I am not buying Jurgen Klopp's excuses of not being able to find the right players in January. The problem is not Klopp but the owners it seems, they seem to be doing to him what Gillette and Hicks were to Rafa Benitez.

He's becoming Klopp the flop.

2-0 loss to Hull today.

So much for him being the messiah at Anfield.

I can't judge him unless he has been given some money to spend. At the moment giving him a six year contract seems to be a bit of a tragedy in the making as Didi Hamann pointed out. Liverpool squad is short of quality and depth. It lacks players who will make the telling difference, it absolutely lacks the killer instinct. Enough of signing squad players now. Klopp needs to bring some serious big money players in the summer otherwise we will continue to be also ran's.

Liverpool had no european football this season so should have been challenging on all other fronts but the sqaud side and overall quality has been exposed and one wonders if they could even cope if they had european football as well. A lot of work for klopp to do.

Klopp's blind belief in the squad and stubbornness in the transfer market will stop Liverpool from winning the title. To win the title Liverpool need to buy some new players, a specialist LB would be a starting place, alongside a good CDM that can cover the defence. Sell Sturridge and buy a striker than can score goals, you can't just rely on Mane. Despite all this, I think he's still a good choice for Liverpool.

In my book Liverpool are still way short of being serious title contenders. The fault is with the owners more then Klopp. We are net spending a pathetic £30 million or something most summers that is small change for the likes of Chelsea and Man City in particular. We need five world class players in each position for starters. Goalies are both crap, I don't understand why Joe Hart who has been linked with us so often has not been signed. Also need a dominant defender, midfielder, winger and centre forward as well whilst retaining all the stars from the current side. Biggest problem is that when we do sign quality it is normally at the expense of selling some of our best players. The owners need to net spend about £200 million in the summer to take us up there with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City but they are more interested in Boston Red Socks then they are in LFC.

Klopp is the German Waqar Younis.

Dehati mindsets, run their players into the ground, fail to beat the teams they should and survive on mythical status and past glories. He's won 3 trophies in 16 years in the German league where there is massive disparity between the top and bottom and nowhere near as competitive as the Premier League or even La Liga.

He's failed to address the gaping holes in the squad, namely up front and in defence. Two midfielders in the back four says it all. In the league we're capable of beating teams who suit our style but when sides are defending deep, are compact and can target us from set pieces we are nullified.

And he's bottled two cup finals. He needs to stop deluding himself about the strength of the squad and invest in ready made talent in the summer not gamble on kids who we'll probably sell anyway if they're any good like Sterling.

Mate lets remember that Rodgers had Suarez at the time who carried Liverpool for a few seasons on his own. He was signed by Dalglish not Brendan Rodgers. My post 21 on this thread is what is wrong at Lverpool, in simple terms the squad just isn't strong enough.

New 2 year contract signed today.

He's been brilliant.

Who knows, could he win 4 trophies this season.

Jurgen Klopp has agreed a new contract which will keep him and his key backroom staff at Liverpool until at least 2026.

The Reds manager accepted a fresh four year deal which will replace the remaining two years of his current agreement, and run until 2026, with the option left open of extending beyond that date.

Mirror Sport understand that it was Klopp himself who approached his owners to say he was ready to accept the open-ended offer to stay with the Anfield club, which was put on the table at the start of this campaign, and has remained ever since.

Great news!

Its not being modest to say Jurgen Klopp is a genius of a manager. His style of play infectious, the fans of Liverpool are having the time of their lives. Long may the boss continue. :klopp

The quadruple actually looks plausible imo.

Quite astonishing stuff.

I think he's an awful fit for Liverpool.
Would be far better off at Arsenal

Klopp on new deal: The plan changed | This fire will never stop

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking on Friday morning about signing a two-year contract extension at Anfield:

"The main reason is for signing - it was actually I thought it would be like this when I signed the last one. I didn't really think about it (leaving after 2024) after that, but the plan changed.

"We want to try and make this club successful for as long as possible, if not forever. That doesn't mean I will be here forever of course!

"It is done early and it's good for transfer windows. We cannot guarantee success but we can guarantee stability which in difficult times is a big thing to guarantee.

Another feather in his cap!

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Two: "Outstanding, it was an incredible, intense game against Chelsea – they would have deserved it [the win] exactly the same way, like in the Carabao Cup – that’s how small the margins are.

"I couldn’t be more proud of my boys, the shift they put in, how hard they fought, early changes. I think Virgil is fine but his muscle was hurt.

"All of these things, missing good chances, overcoming good moments from Chelsea, then having really good moments ourselves.

"Then in the penalty shootout, it was nerve-racking, my nails are gone but I really feel for Chelsea – for the second time, 120 minutes and you get nothing, that’s too hard. But for us I’m pretty happy.

"We are mentality monsters but there were mentality monsters in blue as well – it was one penalty. Chelsea played outstanding but in the end there must be one winner and that was us today."

Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool's "perfect afternoon" as they equalled the record for the biggest Premier League win by thrashing Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield on Saturday.

Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz both scored twice with strikes from Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Fabio Carvalho and a Chris Mepham own goal completing the scoring.

It is the fourth time in Premier League history a team has won by nine goals. Manchester United beat Ipswich 9-0 in 1995 and Southampton by the same score last year. Leicester also won 9-0 at Southampton in 2019.

The result was all the more remarkable given Liverpool, who just months ago came within two games of an unprecedented quadruple, had made their worst league start in a decade.

Klopp's side silenced the critics as they registered their first victory of the season at the fourth attempt.

"Each manager in the world is a fantastic entertainer when you win football games. When you have to answer questions after you lose a game and try to find explanations, it sounds like excuses or whatever," Klopp said.

"We were not happy with the way we played. We had good moments in nearly all the games where we showed things which we are strong at, and other things where we have to improve.

"You get this early goal and you get the second. And we kept going, scored different goals but always with the same purpose: keep going, put them under pressure, don't stop.

"At half-time it was important that we, again, keep going because it's early in the season.

"It's not for us now to control it a little bit. In the end it was the perfect football afternoon for us."

Fabinho returned to stiffen up Liverpool's midfield in the wake of Monday's 2-1 defeat away to Manchester United that left them five points back of reigning champions Manchester City.

Having struggled without the departed Sadio Mane in their first three games, Liverpool's attack instantly clicked Saturday as Firmino floated in a cross for Diaz to head home inside three minutes.

The Brazilian also played his part in the second as his heavy touch rolled invitingly towards Elliott, the 19-year-old curling in from the edge of the area for his first top-flight goal.

Mohamed Salah forced Mark Travers to tip over and somehow glanced wide when Elliott fizzed a cross towards the Egyptian, but the respite was temporary for Scott Parker's overmatched side.

After repeatedly being targeted in the United defeat, Alexander-Arnold displayed his undoubted quality with a thumping drive into the top corner from 20 metres.

Firmino then got in on the act as Salah's attempted pass looped wickedly off a Bournemouth player and right to the Brazilian to stab in from close range.

Ryan Christie grazed the post in a rare chance for Bournemouth, who were powerless to stop the Liverpool onslaught.

Van Dijk headed in Andy Robertson's corner on the stroke of half-time as Liverpool scored five goals in the opening half of a Premier League game for the first time.

The Reds struck again a minute into the second period as Mepham poked Alexander-Arnold's cross into his own net.

Firmino reached 100 Liverpool goals by reacting quickest to pounce on the loose ball after Robertson swung in a dangerous delivery that Travers could only parry.

Portuguese teenager Carvalho fired in to make it eight being teed up by Kostas Tsimikas' cushioned lay-off, notched his first goal for the club since signing from Fulham.

Diaz then headed in the record-equalling goal with six minutes to play as Liverpool shook off a slow start to the campaign in stunning fashion.

Liverpool have had an underwhelming start to the season with some disappointing results.

Is Klopp still the man to turn things around, or could it be time for a change?

Liverpool have had an underwhelming start to the season with some disappointing results.

Is Klopp still the man to turn things around, or could it be time for a change?

(My view would be that he has earned more time)

It is becoming a familiar feeling for Liverpool.

For the fifth time in seven Premier League games this season the Reds conceded the first goal on Saturday, on this occasion to an energetic and fearless Brighton side looking to impress their new boss Roberto de Zerbi.

After winning 16 of their 19 games in the second half of last season to finish just one point behind champions Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp's side are now finding their gameplans going out of the window before half-time.

Stirring fightbacks have got them out of holes in previous campaigns and this looked like being a throwback to one of those, but poor defending once again allowed the Seagulls in late on as the unmarked Leandro Trossard struck at the back post to snatch a 3-3 draw and complete his hat-trick.

Even after recovering from 2-0 down to go 3-2 up in the second half, Klopp himself was not confident his side would see the game out.

"We weren't convincing enough," he said. "I could not say I was 100% convinced we wouldn't concede.

"We have to fight through this. The boys can play much better. We need stability, consistency and top defending."

The point leaves Liverpool ninth in the table and 11 points behind leaders Arsenal - albeit with a game in hand - and Klopp knows his side need to rediscover what is missing as quickly as possible.

BBC

Even some of my friends who are long time Liverpool fans are losing faith in Klopp and feel this will be his last season at the club, that is if he lasts the season.

Biggest problem for Liverpool is the midfield, henderson, milner, thiago all in to their 30's.

Big mistake to let Mane go and not replacing him properly

VVD is not the same after his injury and Trent can't defend for his life. Although hindsight is a great thing selling Mane to keep Salah was the wrong decision it seems. The Egyptian isn't doing anything at all after he got the contract he wanted. Klopp seems to be going the Mourinho way, didn't make enough big signings in the summer either. If Mane stayed then Nunez doesn't come in for sure now he's rotting away on our sub's bench.

Opposition have worked Liverpool out as well. The fullbacks which is a hugh part of Liverpool's strategy are now being pushed back which in return is affecting liverfools left and right wing play who are having to come more up the pitch to recieve the ball which means they are less effective.

The TAA thing is a real issue. The scrutiny on him now is becoming extreme and no doubt it is affecting his form negatively. Klopp has a dilemma because taking him out of the firing line for a couple of weeks and letting the news cycle switch onto other topics might benefit TAA, but then again he is a key player in Liverpool’s system.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his side have to go "back to the basics" to try to improve their defending.

Klopp's side are ninth in the Premier League after just two top-flight wins in seven games this season.

They have conceded 14 goals in nine games across all competitions, keeping just two cleans sheets.

"When you spot a problem and think you have the solution, you expect [it] to be instant. That's never the case in football," Klopp said.

"We've conceded similar goals now, they have gone through the same gaps.

"When the timing in our defending isn't perfect we're too open. So yes, we have to be more compact.

"Defending is an art and it worked for us really well for a long time. But with it not working, you realise you have to go back to the basics.

"We can't always start anew. If we can help the boys with ways to defend differently, we have to do that."

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool boss rejects claim his management creates a seven-year cycle

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has rejected the claim that Liverpool's poor form is down to his management style creating a seven-year cycle.

Saturday marked the seven-year anniversary of the German's appointment as successor to Brendan Rodgers.

At Klopp's two previous jobs with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund he failed to make it to an eighth season.

"The situation was really different. A seven-year spell was not planned or because I lost energy," Klopp said.

"I was a manager at Mainz and, after three years, we got promoted to the Bundesliga then three years later we got relegated.

"We tried one more year and the club needed a change, players left us for the Bundesliga so they needed a fresh start."

Of his time with Dortmund, he added: "I went directly to Dortmund and it was all fine. [It was] seven years and it was just a situation that players constantly got bought by other clubs.

"It was a really hard job to do, constantly making two steps back."

In Klopp's final campaign at Dortmund the club were in the relegation zone at Christmas before recovering to finish seventh.

After a poor start to this season in which the Reds drew four and lost once in their first seven matches, comparisons were made on social media.

However, Klopp said: "I can understand that I left after seven years and now we are in a difficult situation, but, if you think twice about it, you realise the situation is completely different."

Klopps last game this sunday after city Annihilate them at Anfield.

Anything less then a Liverpool win and he’s on his last legs I think.

imagine if City hammer them like Germany hammered Brazil in world cup.

That kind of defeat and klopp will be gone.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says 7-1 win over Rangers 'has changed the mood' ahead of Man City showdown

Jurgen Klopp admitted the 7-1 thrashing of Rangers in the Champions League has "changed the mood" at Liverpool ahead of facing Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah scored the fastest-ever Champions League hat-trick as Liverpool turned it on in the second half to thrash Rangers. Liverpool's spectacular second half, where they scored six goals, meant it was Rangers' heaviest-ever defeat in a competitive match at Ibrox.

This was a timely boost for Klopp's men, who face Manchester City on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.

"It changed the mood definitely," Klopp said.

"It's completely different. We usually drink a beer after away games but it's that long ago I drunk a beer I'll probably be drunk after one. Yes it changed the mood completely but we all know who we are welcoming on Sunday and this will be a different game, but it's better to go into it with this feeling we've got tonight than any other."

Two Roberto Firmino goals sent Liverpool on their way and his clever flick allowed Darwin Nunez to net his second goal in as many games. Substitute Salah then took over, scoring the first of his three goals on 75 minutes and securing the match ball with two more ruthless finishes against the hapless Rangers defence.

When asked about Salah's hat-trick, Klopp said: "Special. Typical Mo. Very important, the whole thing, how the boys adapted to it, to the positions, to the line-up, the reaction of the boys on the pitch, I thought everybody who started tonight played really well. I can't think of one player who didn't have a good game, the two kids right and left wing really good, Fabio [Carvalho] and Harvey [Elliott], and when you can change like we did tonight and the boys come on ready to contribute then things like this can happen.

"A freak result, we all know that, and we don't make more of it than we should, but obviously it's the best we could have asked for and I'm pretty pleased.

"I'm always ready for a change in the right direction. We'll see. We don't have to make a big thing of it but the best football team in the world right now is waiting on Sunday and coming to Anfield. We'll see what we can do. It was for us - for different reasons - incredibly important. Now we have to recover."

No way! Jurgen is the right man in charge at LFC. You don't become a bad manager after a few poor matches. I blame the owners who hardly spent anything in the summer when our rivals were spending hundred's of millions without blinking an eye. Give JK even £300 million and the man will turn it around with his wheeling and dealing in the market. What we need is a brand new midfield where as currently we have an old and injury prone one.

Historically unlike teams such as Chelsea we don't sack our manager so easily. There are no rumours of JK leaving at all other then those so called fans who know nothing about Football. JK has proved himself at the club whenever he has been backed financially by making many great signings and winning many trophies.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes no-one can compete with Manchester City this season due to the financial power the Premier League champions have at their disposal.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes no-one can compete with Manchester City this season due to the financial power the Premier League champions have at their disposal.

Jürgen Klopp has claimed Liverpool cannot compete financially with Manchester City because Gulf state-owned clubs “can do what they want” despite financial fair play rules.

The Liverpool manager is satisfied his team can match City on the pitch but off it, he insists, is an entirely different matter demonstrated by Sunday’s opponents adding Erling Haaland to a squad that won the Premier League for the fourth time in five seasons in May.

The prolific striker cost City £51.2m in the summer while Liverpool agreed a potential club-record £85m deal for Darwin Núñez. The overall package for Haaland, however, who is reported to earn £375,000 a week plus bonuses that more than double his salary, put him beyond Liverpool’s reach.

Klopp believes City, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle are not bound by the same financial constraints as most clubs and cast doubt on the effectiveness of FFP. Asked how Liverpool could keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s team, who are 13 points clear of their recent title rivals, Klopp replied: “Oh, you won’t like the answer. You will not like the answer, and you all have the answer already. Nobody can compete with City in that.

“You have the best team in the world and you put in the best striker on the market. No matter what it costs, you just do it. I know City will not like it, nobody will like it, you’ve asked the question but you know the answer. What does Liverpool do? We cannot act like them. It is not possible. Not possible. It is just clear and again you know the answer.

“There are three clubs in world football who can do what they want financially. It’s legal and everything, fine, but they can do what they want. They will say: ‘Yeah but we have ...’ but it’s exactly the fact. We have to look at it [and say]: ‘We need that and we need that and we have to look here and make it younger, and here a prospect and here a talent’ and that is what you have to do. And you compete with them.”

Liverpool are unbeaten in their past four meetings with City and have won the past two – last season’s FA Cup semi-final and the Community Shield in July. Klopp accepts the financial situation at Anfield but believes it is not his responsibility to highlight the disparities within football.

“It is not a problem at all for me, it’s like it is,” he said. “Don’t ask me that question because you always open this discussion and it’s me telling you. But you all know it, you should know. I heard now that at Newcastle somebody [sporting director Dan Ashworth] said: ‘There is no ceiling for this club.’ Yes, he is right. He is absolutely right. There is no ceiling for Newcastle. Congratulations, but some other clubs have ceilings.”

Ashworth said in an interview this week there was no ceiling to what Newcastle “can achieve” as a club. He added that Newcastle, who have spent £210m on players in 2022 under majority Saudi ownership, would have to work within FFP rules and that this year’s outlay “is not sustainable” on an annual basis.

Klopp is and always will be till the time he is at Anfield, managing Liverpool FC.

Haters talk to the hand.

Liverpool are citys kryptonite, they fear the scousers hence their game plan goes out of the window.

How can you say that. Hes worked miracles at Anfield. His net spend is insanely low and look at the success hes had. Truly wish he quits anfield, because the day he does will be the end of Liverpool under these owner's

Even a 0-3 loss wouldnt be an issue.

Its very difficult for other fans to realise, how much Klopp is not only loved by highly valued as a Manager.

Today proved it, City were on fire but LFC played them off the park at times, which no other team in the world could do. This is all down to Jurgen.

Nobody should be surprised if Jurgen wins another trophy or two for LFC this season.

Great win for Liverpool

Darwin Nunez is terrible. He’s not even worth half of his price tag!

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the Football Association following his sending-off during his side's 1-0 win against Manchester City.

Klopp was dismissed after berating a referee's assistant when a foul was not given for a challenge on Mohamed Salah.

The incident came on a weekend where Merseyside Youth League games were postponed amid ongoing issues with referee abuse.

Klopp apologised for his reaction in his post-match comments.

"Something snapped in that situation, I'm not proud of that. I deserved a red card, and the way I looked in this moment is not right," the German admitted.

Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA rule E3, which covers "comments which are improper, which bring the game into disrepute, which are threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting".

The 55-year-old has until Friday to respond to the charge and will be allowed to take his place in the dugout for Liverpool's home game against West Ham on Wednesday.

Following the win over City, Klopp said he went to see to referee Anthony Taylor and "spoke completely calmly" about how he felt the match unfolded.

He added: "The whole game led to that a little bit. It was a very, very intense game with a lot of decisions we didn't understand on both sides.

"This for me was like the one drop that made the bucket overflow. I'm not happy with my reaction but that's the way it was and everybody saw it."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he would "hate it" if his comments about Manchester City's spending power were seen as xenophobic.

Speaking before Sunday's 1-0 win over City, Klopp had said the Premier League champions - owned by Sheikh Mansour - could "do what they want financially".

Senior figures at City were privately unhappy with those comments.

When asked if they were "borderline xenophobic", Klopp replied: "In this specific case, I don't feel it at all."

He added: "I know myself. And you cannot hit with something which is miles away from my personality.

"If I was - I cannot remember the word - like this I would hate it. I would hate myself for being like this."

Klopp had said City were one of three clubs - including Qatari-owned Paris St-Germain and the Saudi-backed Newcastle United - with unmatched spending power.

And the feeling among the City hierarchy was that those comments helped to inflame tensions at Sunday's game, where City boss Pep Guardiola said coins were thrown at him, while visiting fans sang "vile" chants, later condemned by the Anfield club.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe had earlier said people should "be careful with comments and opinions" when responding to Klopp's comments.

Bad day for Klopp. Beats one of the best teams in the league one weekend, and loses to one of the worst teams on the next. Oh well, that’s the Premier League for you!

"I'm sorry but we can't compete with Nottingham Forrest. They made the most signings in the summer. At Liverpool, we can't do that."

:)))

Liverpool fail to win any of their opening five Premier League away matches for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Home track bullies.

Liverpool's season takes a step backwards

Liverpool looked to be getting back into some sort of rhythm with wins over Rangers in the Champions League followed by back-to-back Premier League victories over Manchester City and West Ham.

Yet they remain without a Premier League away win this season, with their last league success at the City Ground way back in October 1984.

This was a million miles away from the gripping victory over City at Anfield six days ago.

Alexander-Arnold went close to salvaging a point late on, but this was a sluggish performance before Liverpool's trip to Amsterdam for the Champions League game with Ajax.

They were not helped by the lost of midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who missed the match after waking up on Saturday with a serious ear infection which required hospital treatment.

Questions will be asked of manager Jurgen Klopp, who will demand a much-improved performance on Wednesday.

This is almost pre Klopp Liverpool. Turn up for big games and crap for the rest.

When referee Paul Tierney blew his final whistle to confirm Forest's surprise 1-0 win, Liverpool's winning run was in ruins, with the Reds still without an away win in the league this season.

"It feels as low as possible," said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. "Massive, massive blow because I have no idea how we can lose this game to be honest."

While Klopp was conducting an inquest into his team's third league defeat of the season, his counterpart Steve Cooper was wondering if this could be a season-changing result.

"It's a good day's work," he said. "That's it. We need to crack on."

Liverpool, who are 11 points behind leaders Arsenal having played one game more, struggled to create chances from open play as they slumped to a second successive away defeat in the league.

"It's a big blow for us because we came here and wanted to get three points," said Klopp. "In normal circumstances we should have won this this."

Liverpool were not helped by the loss of midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who woke up at 05:15 BST with an ear infection which required hospital treatment.

They were already without Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez due to injury.

"We arrived with consistency but we had six games with a limited squad playing three high intense games inside a week," added Klopp.

"That's how it is, we cannot change that and we have to fight through. Result-wise we should have showed consistency. We could have had it by finishing situations off.

"Giving a team six clear chances after a set piece I'm not sure where I should put the praise to be honest. Nottingham Forest are a great team and Steve Cooper is a great manager but we have to win here and we didn't, so credit to Nottingham Forest.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says injuries and bad luck have contributed to inconsistent start to season

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool's progress this season has been stunted by injuries at crucial times as they prepare to face Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Liverpool looked to have turned a corner after 1-0 wins against both Manchester City and West Ham, but suffered defeat by the same scoreline away at Nottingham Forest last weekend, leaving them eighth in the Premier League table.

The Reds have had a number of players unavailable and while Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate could return from injury in Wednesday's Champions League game at Ajax, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota remain sidelined.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are ineligible having not been included in the Reds' squad for the group stage.

Boss Klopp - whose side will seal last-16 qualification if they avoid defeat at the Johan Cruyff Arena - told a press conference: "It starts with injuries then the problem is that the players who have no injuries have to play too often and then the players that do have the injuries, they come back and play too early very often, that's how it is.

"And then they come back and play and then they have another [maybe] not injuries but 'other things' and then the medical department says they can't play more than 20 minutes, they shouldn't do this and they shouldn't do that, and these kinds of things, and that's how you go into the Premier League games with a knife between your teeth.

"So that is tricky, and obviously, those situations are not sorted overnight. Yes players are coming back Ibou (Konate) - Naby, Oxlade-Chamberlain they need to train. We thought they would be out for longer, but now they are back which is good, not back to play, but back to be around and play a few minutes."

Curtis Jones was thrust straight back into action against Forest in an unfamiliar midifield role, following the late withdrawal of Thiago Alcantara who suffered an ear problem overnight.

Klopp added: "Curtis is now back, and a few others are back and that is all helpful. Again, no complaints, no moan, nothing, it is just the situation. And the situation before Nottingham was really strange - that you have to play a player, who didn't play for a long time in Curtis Jones, and he did really well, in a position he never played because in the night something happens and these kinds of things.

"We will see what we can do tomorrow. I am really looking forward to the game, I am really positive, it's Champions League, it's Ajax it's a big game, it's all good. We have enough players here so we will give it a proper try.

"But did we turn it [a corner?]. We played really good a couple of times, but it is not like we are without problems for these games.

"We play a good game and then we lose two players out after the game. Wow and then another one not available for more than 20 minutes, so that's not easy."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says it is "not 100 per cent fair" to judge whether his team has reached the end of its successful cycle and that such an assessment should be made at the end of the season.

The Reds have suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats to Leeds and Nottingham Forest in the past two weeks - two teams who started their games with Klopp's side in the relegation zone - to leave the Merseyside club in ninth place, eight points off the top four and 15 behind league leaders Arsenal.

Klopp:

"It's not a quick fix but we will not stop fighting"

"People look at me and they say 'he looks tired' or whatever but I'm not. I cannot give that excuse. My job is not only to be here when the sun is shining and somebody gives us a trophy"

"My job is to be there when we go through a really rough period and I will do that with all I have"

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool manager says he is committed to the club despite ownership uncertainty

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is committed to the club no matter what happens with the current ownership.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have said they are looking for new investment but some reports claim they are willing to sell Liverpool in its entirety.

The move has sparked concern among some Liverpool fans worried about potential upheaval at Anfield, with questions over Klopp's future.

On Wednesday, Liverpool beat Derby County on penalties in the Carabao Cup.

Speaking for the first time since the stories about FSG emerged on Monday, Klopp said he was going nowhere and the news had not impacted his plans for that third-round tie against the League One side.

"What I read is that they are looking for investment," he said. "Good idea, I like that.

"But it didn't distract preparation at all. The players didn't ask me and, for me, it means nothing.

"I have a great relationship with FSG. I really like how it works but if it does change, I am committed to the club and that is nothing to do with the people here."

Klopp said any comparison with Chelsea, whose new ownership also triggered massive changes behind the scenes and, eventually, the dismissal of manager Thomas Tuchel, are invalid.

"The situation is completely different," he said. "Chelsea had to get sold because the owner was in trouble and there was urgency in the situation. We don't have that here at all.

"It is important whilst this process is happening we just keep going and planning.

"These things take time and in that time we have to keep going. I will make sure that will be the case.

"At the moment nothing happened. It is just news. And nobody had a heart attack and went 'oh my God'. Whatever happens we will deal with it."

Liverpool are the most overhyped team in history. They win one premier league in 30 years and they have the best manager, the best goalkeeper, the best captain, the best right back, the best attackers, the best everything. Their demise is so sweet. :misbah
