Is Justin Langer deliberately keeping players out of the Aussie Team?

Joe Burns and Renshaw non selection especially given how poor Finch is and the fact these 2 are openers unlike makeshift finch is a bit confusing.

What for me looking from the outside is alarming is Bancroft and Langer's relationship, Langer called him his son, he has coached him at WA, was a big supporter of him being picked, backed him publicly after a bad ashes and now Langer and selectors seem to be refusing to pick either of 2 players who can actually take that opener spot from Bancroft, call me suspicious but it smells funny to me. Seems like Langer is keeping Bancroft's spot for him

What do you folk think?

I think there will be much of a muchness about this Australian top order regardless who they pick instead of Finch or Harris. The quality just isn't there. Burns has no first-class hundreds this season, while Renshaw averages around 20.

That is not to say that Aaron Finch will ever be a test quality batsman, he demonstrably isn't. I think the selectors picked Finch in the forlorn hope he would provide some leadership to the team, but predictably somewhat that has not transpired.

Don't know whether Langer holds a personal grudge against the mentioned players, but I do fint it strange that someone like Renshaw is not included in the Test squad. He did really well in County cricket and is a really good test player.

Renshaw hasn't been great recently yes, but Burns averages 47 and if you are going to pick labuschagne who averages 28 this season you can't hide behind stats.

Labuschagne has been picked as a Mitchell Marsh replacement as they feel the need for a fifth bowling option, and given that it's the SCG they want a second spinner.

I think a broken piece of wood leaning against the stumps would score more runs than Aaron Finch, so yes Burns deserved to be selected. But as I mentioned already, I don't think he was picked for sound cricket reasons. I don't see any conspiracy though.

He is averaging 59 with the ball, it is bizarre to pick him ahead of Maxwell. Langer seems to have his favorites and disliked ones. I can bet on it that the next test series they bring in Bancroft back for Finch, Smith and Warner won't be back yet, so your logic won't change but Langer's thinking will.
