Is Misbah-ul-Haq's tenure going to be a period of insecurity for players?

When he first took charge as Head Coach and Chief Selector, he mentioned that Sarfaraz had his complete unequivocal backing as captain. Sarfaraz won the ODI series against Sri Lanka as captain but lost the T-20 series, end result is Sarfaraz has been given the axe as both captain and player

We see the names of Imad Wasim, Haris Sohail, Wahab Riaz floating in the media. Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal were recalled but were dumped from the final T-20 which was an inconsequential match as a response to the massive criticism from the media, ex players and fans.

I am not sure but as a Pakistani Cricket player i would definately be worried because so far i am seeing a coach who will do anything to save his own behind and scapegoat the players

No. Akmal and Shehzad deserved to be dropped anyways. And Sarfraz had this coming for ages, this talk of "backing gun" was just PR, else why was he only appointed on a series vs SL basis.

Yeah, sure.

Misbah has a plan to rebuild the team after the dark Mickey Arthur era. We went on our worst losing streak in ODIs under him.

Our worst Test performances in 2-3 decades came under Mickey Arthur. Couldn't win even at home.

This has to change. And for this to change, Misbah will make some changes, non performers will be dropped, and big whales like Sarfraz Ahmed with huge media backing are being shown the door.

No one else could have sacked Sarfraz as the captain.

Salute to Misbah here.

If I were a Pakistan player I would be worried about not performing well - period

Misbah is the insecure one, after every series he will drop those players who are not afraid to speak up to him and replace them with friends ( ie: Azhar Ali, Ahmed shezad, Umar akmal) untill he has full dictator type of leadership.

Come on, we all knew Sarfraz was a lame duck captain and he had to go. Misbah has done the right thing. I would have had Asad as test captain but you can understand why Azhar was chosen.

As long as the test squad to Australia does not have the likes of Salman Butt in there, we should look forward cautiously to our test future.

Misbah as captain shifted the blame on domestic circuit to hide his failures this is what he is going to do when Pakistan will start losing continuously. He will shift the blame saying we don’t have talent coming through and so on

Yup. I don't think there was ever a time during his tenure from 2010 to 2017 where he put his hand up for and said i messed up,i screwed up, my fault, i am responsible e.t.c. Always shifted the blame to X, Y, Z, Domestic Cricket and hid behind his useless slow 50's.

I wonder if it will be any different as coach. That said even Sarfaraz never really took responsibility for defeats

I mean the guy is a chief selector and coach. The players know this man has the power to drop them if he wants. So of course they will be insecure.

Except for the likes of Azhar, Shafiq, Wahab, Hafeez and other oldies.

Of course he prefers experience over new talent. So he will keep familiar faces than blame the domestic structure for not unearthing talent.

Misbah usually likes a settled side. If we keep on seeing loads of changes it’s a sign that he is getting desperate.

This shameless clown needs to get kicked out already have had enough of him.

Hopefully.

Rubbish, dramaybaaz players like Shadab etc. have been getting a free ride for too long. Misbah needs to treat him like the nobody that he is.

About time a proper spinner Gohar gets his due chance.

I agree non performing players for a long time like Shadab, Sarfaraz deserved the axe. But one has to be careful not to scapegoat players for defeats either where players find themselves getting dropped blamed after 2-3 failures, this will create a lot of insecurity and more individualism at the expense of the team.

As a coach if you have faith in a player and believe in his long term value, talent to the team you have to have to back him wholeheartedly for a series or two and deal with the media, ex players, fan pressure that comes along. My biggest fear is Misbah does not have the later and will be scapegoating players to save his behind

Really hope misbah shows courage, and drops failing players for Australia tour. Cant keep depending on players who have been failures for years.

He loves playing the blame game.

His analysis of Shaheen Afridi during the WC pretty much summed up his tactical nous.

Um, nothing we do right now can prevent the losses in AUS.

You should understand that we haven't won in AUS in decades, not even a match.

Of course, after say 2 years, when the team has been rebuilt, we might have a chance.

The thing is that those players haven't been performing for a while and Misbah should have already dropped them as we have much better replacements. Some players have never performed but are managing to sneak back into the team under Misbah, i.e. Rahat, Imran sr, Irfan, Shehzad, Akmal and maybe Kamran Akmal.
