It seems that over the past year or so he’s just been murdering bowlers at will. What worries me is that this insane form will not last till the T20 World Cup. Hafeez already doesn’t have the best record with the bat in ICC tournaments. But can this new, post-golf professor replicate this domination in the coming T20 World Cup or are we witnessing an untimely peak.

Early? Should have been doing this 5 years ago

Hafeez is the great lost talent of Pakistan. He could be like this 10 years ago - but he didn't go on a self discovery journey until the last year or two.

At some point, players have to discover who they are and more importantly who they are not. Same for any other discipline in life.

Now he knows his game and what he is capable of - at this late stage of his life. So I suppose one can say every day is a bonus when he can keep his form.

OP is making a good point. I have said before Hafeez is playing well but he is 40. He could decline at any point. It's a shame we are in a position where our T20 batting is reliant on him as I said he could have a natural age decline at any point.

Was just about to say this, before a customer came in lol.

Hafeez has always had this talent of hitting because of his gift of timing.

The only reason he hasnt flourished is because of the yeara of incompetent coaches who couldnt create a role for each player to play.

Hafeez shouldve been playing the finisher role a decade ago.

When there is no mentor to guide you as a young player to help you find your game this is what happens.

Unfullfilled talent.

Goes to show the level of game iq in the local coaches.

Yes let's blame the coaches for the last 10 years...he's not some child! He is responsible for his own failures and successes.

Coaches are important. But so is the player and his own thought processes.

In Hafeez's case, I won't blame the coaches.

You can see in Hafeez's 20 years so far - he is as gifted as he is erratic in his thought processes.

Yea i pointed that out in the other thread, the fact they call him the professor goes to show the level of cricket iq among all the players is pretty low.

Hafeez shouldve had this figured out when he was 25. EGO also plays a part. He was never a opener.

Coaches do get a bit of blame because what are you paying them for? They are there to create roles for players to play to their strengths.

Looked good today before getting out. Needs to do well in the World Cup

He has been awful for few matches and back to his useless self.

If he keeps this up his days are numbered. Good thing for Hafeez though is that PSL will continue. If he can pad his stats there, he'll be in wt20 squad

Don't know what happened to him all of a sudden. Was playing like a dream in NZ just a few months back...

Hafeez needs to get his act together - his experience is so important and he is failing us.

I don't think he has ever peaked in his career. Peaked in failure perhaps.

Possibly a loss in momentum from being out of the side against the T20 series against South Africa at home.

Nevertheless, these conditions are not that difficult to understand.

The ball won't come onto the bat for shots like the pull or the cut, so focus on rotating strike and punishing the bad balls.

Right now our players are trying to punish every single ball thinking that it's Zimbabwe and they'll get a lot of room to hit.

Credit to Zimbabwe, they bowled intelligent lines and lengths.

Hafeez has never peaked at a World Cup . He averages 20 in 5 t20 World Cups with 1 50 and a SR of 105.

Wake up people !! His experience counts for zilch when the pressure is on.

He shot himself in the foot with his rather arrogant comments that he could not understand why he was not in the one day team. Karma got him and now he will struggle to keep his spot in the T20 team if he does not pick up his form.

Goodness! 1 half century in 5 T20 World Cups? And an SR of 105? Didn't know he was so bad in T20 World Cups.

Ridiculously bad . His average in the 50 over world cups ain’t that better either . An Average of 28!

That’s why it frustrates me that people still back to play at another World Cup . He’s a Bonafide failure .

I rather take a iftikhar, khushdil , talat . They defo won’t do any worse than hafeez .

People might mistake me for spewing venom against a Pakistani player, but that's not the case. But in my opinion, the biggest mystery is that Hafeez has played so much more International cricket than his talent deserved. He should have been discarded years ago.

Such is the quality of upcoming youngsters that nobody has been able to replace a now 40 year old Hafeez.

He wasn't even a great player lol.

Eventhough his form has somehow fallen of a cliff recently after being at peak level, I still have high expectations from him going into the World Cup. Hafeez has just looked like a different batsmen altogether in the last year or so (minus last two series). He has changed the way he approaches the game, his attitude and mindset has been different.

I'm confident he will be in that zone at the World Cup. I think what's more concerning is the batting that comes after him.

The Zimbabwe slow Grindy wickets don't suit his style

The only Pakistani player before Hafeez who got to play way more International cricket than he deserved is Rameez Raza. And that's even more surprising. At least in Hafeez's case, it can be argued that the Pakistani team was at it's weakest. But during Rameez's time the Pakistani team was a strong one overflowing with talent.

A certain poster once created a thread years ago asking who's the most undeserving talent to have played International cricket, and his choice was Rameez Raza. I still agree with his choice. True, even less talented played have played International cricket, but they were discarded sooner rather than later. Rameez however played 59 Tests and many more ODI matches with such horrible outputs. The man has 2 centuries in 59 Tests, and that too against minnows of that time Sri Lanka.

I wrote the same in other thread also, Hafeez is too old to keep his good form for long. Soon his 43 year old reflexes will give up. He is not as fit as some other older cricketers like Shoaib Malik are.

When talking about undeserving cricketers playing too many times for Pakistan, Hafeez and Ramiz make the list easily but no one can beat Imran Farhat.

His official age is 40. His real age is probably 42 or 43. Father time is undefeated, so we should not be surprised at his poor performance in the last few matches. All we can do is hope that he has a little bit more cricket left in him.

Only remember Ramiz playing in the 1992 World Cup . But one thing is for sure he sure he was a big tournament player unlike Hafeez . He averaged 54 over 3 world cups with 3 centuries.

The pitches do not suit his batting he will have to adapt his batting according the surfaces In the world cup.

Hasn’t done much for a while now. Perhaps I was right. Although he might regain his form

Peak or no peak hafeez has hardly performed in WC's.
His purple patch is over and at this age he'll be a burden in every game he plays for Pak

Who would you rather have?
I’d rather have Hafeez in the team instead of anyone else we have tried. We don’t have anyone to replace or is better

This is such pathetic reasoning.

I will have anyone other than Hafeez . Hafeez has had the luxury of 5 t20 world cups . Where he averages 20 with 1 50 and a SR of 106. I have repeated this stat on several occasions on various forums , because he simply does not deserve another World Cup . The only thing that was in favour was his recent forum , and that has also deserted him .

A mediocre , mentally weak player , who 9.5 /10 has failed on the big stage .

I would rather take Talat, khushdil , ifti, maqsood . They won’t do any worse than Hafeez and their is also the possibility they may do better .

We know what to expect from Hafeez.

I would take hafeez over any of the youngsters we have tried.hafeez should be bowling more.

Nothing new here as this has always been the case where he looks like a million dollar batsman for few games and then completely disappears for the next 10 games knowing very well that his place in the team is secured, only to peform again when they start talking about dropping him. The cycle continues...

I think Hafeez is mentally weak and has trouble igniting that fire in him to score runs when he thinks he has made it.

that's why bringing these tried and tested failures again and again is not exactly solving the problem. Sorry to say this, but I laugh at posters who are talking about bringing Shoaib Malik back just because we don't have players to replace him. That's not how you build a team. I would rather fail with these nothing young players for years than to go back to these tried and tested failures. We have not been able to win big for a long time now in any format of this game, so what is the point. At least with our young players, I will always be able to move to the next set of young players if the current crop fails or until I unearth more players like Rizwan, Babar, Shaheen and Hassan.

Shows the kind of mediocre batsmen Pakistan have produced over the years.

My point has been proved, the replacements you have suggested are not good enough. We also know what to expect from those hacks

I’d still back Hafeez over them to perform better.
Hafeez will find him form and will be needed in the bowling department as well.

Purple patch over

Back when I was growing up, a batsman going through a ‘purple patch’ meant he scored multiple big centuries in a test series like Lara did now and again , or Saeed Anwar scoring 3 ODI tons in consecutive innings which I think he did twice , or Mohammed Yusuf having a year where he scored 100 after 100.

Hafeez’s purple patch was what, like not being out for a single digit score in 4 or 5 consecutive innings ?

Your point is beyond stupidity. Hafeez has 1 50 in 5 t20 world cups! As for Hafeez finding form , he never finds form at world cups, that's where he goes missing. If you think 5 T20 world cups is not a big enough sample then i really don't know what to say.

This is just a case of extreme blind favouritism for a player, where logic is thrown out the window.

I am sure any one of the fringe players could do better than an average of 20 and a SR of 105 at the next T20 world cup, which is what Hafeez's ceiling is.

That I was afraid of, at 40 plus age, once you lose form , its hard to come back, hope I'm wrong.

If Hafeez can bowl in the WT20 then we won’t have to play Shadab and Imad, instead we can play a proper spinner.

Hafeez and Ifthikar can be our 2 all rounders, which would also mean that we can play 3 quickies and 5 proper batsmen.

This would mean no bits and pieces players like Faheem, Shadab and Imad.

Two of of them 3 Will definitely play

You seem to have been correct, his most recent performances have been quite bad. I personally do not think someone of his age should be in the T20I side anyway. At that age, athletes can age over night.

He shouldn't be in the team, along with shadab.

If a spin bowling A/R is needed, then go with Ifti chacha at 6.

Seems to be enjoying himself - all set for WT20!

Average 15

Looked woefully short on form and confidence. Some very poor dismissals and another reason why LQ failed to qualify for the play-offs.

He needs to get his act together! There are plenty of guys who can average above 15 and that too with a higher strike rate.

That’s very unlike Hafeez , usually you get at least 4 quarter-centuries (25+ scores) in that many innings.. he must be going through a bad patch.

He is very very old for T20 or any form of international cricket . he has played way too much cricket for his limited talent.

He should retire from all form of cricket and should look for some other cricket related job. He is a very smart and experienced cricketer, will be successful, in coaching or even as commentator.

Seems a bad time for main T20 batsmen to be out of form. Hafeez and Farkhar has been woeful in the PSL leg. Hopefully they find some form in England.

He will make a good batting coach , I think video clips of his own dismissals from 18 years of international cricket would provide world class training material for any young upcoming batsman - on how NOT to bat against different kinds of bowling.

Looks like they are just making more room for a Malik comeback. If KK lose and PZ go further a lot of eyes will be on Malik.

:))) You never cease to amaze with your Hafeez jokes.

Important series for Hafeez. Has looked terrible the last few months. We need Hafeez 3.0 back for the World Cup and not the usual Hafeez.

When Hafeez bats as fluently and beastly like today, my sixth sense tells me it’s a very very flat deck and opposition to score lots of runs.

8 sixes for England in first 6 overs, with 81 runs.

That’s just the kind of batting wicket that Hafeez made it look like by batting fluently.

I'm surprised he's not been given an over or 2 with Morgan batting.

Let him chuck at the world t20. It should be his last tournament anyway

Come on champ , you can win the game today and show your a match winner.

No point of his bowling, when he can't score any runs.

He is well past it, but will the management see it?

Unfortunately, I don't think they will.
