Is Sarfraz Ahmed a selfish player?

Get out looking for his 50 in 1st match. Now almost get out looking for his 100 in 2nd match. :facepalm:
 
What a silly thread!

What is selfish about any of this? We haven't had a centurion in WC's since the 2007 version. He's played for the team and deserves a century.
 
In normal course the match would be over without his century, everyone is playing for his century atm.
 
Here's a better question, how could Sarfraz do better than your classy Younis? We all know why you're trying to shoot him down.
 
Considering so many other players get such threads attributed to them i don't see anything wrong in this thread either.But a Pak batsman will have a 100 in WC after a lot of matches good in a way.

i think its great team work that akmal is supporting his team mate getting a 100 when the opposition is blocking it

I dont know if he is a selfish player but this century is definately selfish and a team effort. Like teaching a kid how to ride with training wheels on.

I dont rate these kind of forced centuries, i call it a good hard fought 90 runs inning
 
The context is important.

Of course he played for his 100 but after ensuring Pak was sure of a win.

A 100 by a Pakistani would give the whole batting team a boost.

How hard is this to understand?

If I were the captain, i would have wanted a Sarfraz 100 too cos that would boost the whole team and make them believe they too can score centuries.
 
A tad silly at the end, but the century was key.

Good for his confidence and the team too.
 
What a joke in the end but Ireland were also involved and wanted to make it as difficult even though they knew they had lost.
 
Some people have problem with Sarfraz playing too many shots and giving his wicket away and now some people are having problems with Sarfraz playing slow, selfish and staying it till the end

Well we fickle fans are never happy.
 
Well he has won us the match .. this century was important for pakistan as we havent had any since 2007.

Its a welcome century for the team.

People criticizing sarfraz's hundred

All you guys criticizing sarfraz, give the guy a break he deserved the hundred and the slow runs in the end did not put the match in danger at all, just be happy that we won and our player whos scored a hundred, a player who many including experts said he would not cut it as a opener on these pitches, well look what hes come out with, a fifty then a century, fair play sarfraz you deserved it mate shut all your critics up,
 
To come into the World Cup without any match practice, to face the South Africa coming off the bench and scoring an aggressive 49 against South Africa, I don't blame Safraz to go for his century here because it was his 1st and what a way to get it being the 1st Pak player to score a ton this World Cup in only his 2nd match. Look how many players have got out in the nervous 90s. With just hitting 6 fours it shows how hard he worked for his century unlike Shahzad who made 63 and half of it was in boundaries. So well done, not selfish at all.
 
They went seriously overboard when Sarfraz blocked after his ton, that was embarrassing.
 
He played really well.
It doesn't matter by what margin we won, a win is a win.

Sarfraz was always playing like this from the very beginning. Some tuks, some twos and some singles. Given how incredibly slow Sarfraz played, he still managed to end up with SR of 80 and hitting just 6 boundaries. He was definitely not in a free flowing mood today and I was hoping when Akmal came to the crease to hit 3-4 boundaries in a row but he never did it. Kept blocking like a mad man.
 
He was just following the coach's orders. What would have changed if Akmal had finished it off earlier and left Sarfaraz hanging or the latter would have gotten out trying to force the pace? Nope.

Why not take an extra three overs and make the victory sweeter?
 
It was farcial and embarrassing.

This is not the way to get a century. Pathetic really.

However whats done is done, just next time this should not happen.

Well he blocked so Umar could hit the winning runs. Don't think he wanted to stay not out as some one suggested. Umar helped him get his 100 and he thanked him by letting him hit the winning run.

To take it further, if Misbah fans are annyoed by this (can't be totally compared I know) then you get idea of how some people feel when Misbah blocks balls which he could dispatch.
 
Akmal played 21 dot balls out of his 29 balls innings. Let's put this whole thing in perspective.
 
Just hope they don't do this stuff in the knockouts, this slowing down to get your century business can end up spoiling the momentum of the innings :sachin.
 
If he plays like this against oz then they will roll over pak in just 30 overs. He played more like Misbah when the team in crisis
 
Sarfraz's "selfishness" caused Pakistan absolutely no harm.

So just let it go...........

After Sarfraz got his ton they should have finished it, made absolutely no sense in Akmal hitting winning runs.
 
oh come on. the match was won already. what are you crying for? you dont get money for the overs you save. and umar went full retard. sarfaraz used to take a single first ball and umar used to block last 5 balls which could have been avoided. but he could have afforded to be selfish.
 
Can someone explain why the heck was Umar not looking singles if he was not looking to finish the game by hitting successive boundaries? When he came to the crease I was hoping the match to be finished quickly but his plans were bizarre as well.

Not saying Sarfraz did the right thing, was just pointing out why he didn't take the run after his century.
 
nothing wrong in taking time to get 100 while you already won the game . it means alot to a player to get a century that too in a worldcup
 
Well played, and he deserved his century. It wasn't like pakistan was losing the match. They could have won it alot earlier but i am glad the team allowed him to score his ton.

If everyone rotated strike he would have got his hundred earlier

Everyone has their own batting style tho
 
We are through. Safraz got his 100, Pak got the victory, we are through yet we see moaners.

Yes don't think being not out had anything to do with it but blocking to let Akmal hit winning runs as a thank you is a complete farce.

To be honest it was getting so bad that even the century was becoming irrelevant, you could tell the dressing room was getting agitated.

Anyway we won let's move on
 
Stupid thread. The countless number of selfless innings he has played for Pakistan and some people forget them so easily.

He would have finished it off if it wasn't for Sarfraz's stares. Single was virtually impossible as all the fielders were in the circle.

I can understand Umar Akmal blocking to let Sarfaraz score century, but Sarfaraz blocking to let Umar Akmal hit winning runs wth?

Less runs means Sarfraz's chances of getting a century diminish. A wide down the leg side that went for four would have definitely been on Ireland's mind.

Why not? That was pretty much proof that Sarfaraz is a team player. Akmal needs all the confidence he can get.

it was a wrong trend set today similar Misbah gave excuse to player like Ahmed Shehzad to play extra slow.
 
Who cares ? It's not like team's NRR was going to be a factor.

Absolutely no impact on the team.

Surprise to see people complaining about Sarfaraz. Pakistan won the game comfortably. So what's the big deal if he was little careful. As a team man, he gave Umar chance to hit winning run
Some of you guys are just un realistic. Any team would have done the same. Century is a big landmark. Ask Misbah, who has no century in a million matches

Did you hear words of deal by akmal ?

Anyways after getting 100 it was sarfraz who said to akmal 'ap khtm krna' u finish it .
 
Nothing selfish about him. One of the few pak cricketers who seems to give it all for his team.
