hardly ever gets injured, has been an excellent fielder all his time... and is one of the fastest runner between wickets...

In last two-three years Malik's approach towards Cricket has been very professional. He has learnt this by playing League Cricket mainly.

He trains very hard in Gym and that now shows im his running. He is 37 odd (Swann even contests it) but the fittest player.

Definitely the fittest among the current crop. Our fittest ever I would say was probably Imran Khan

any1 in the past better than him? i heard that majid khan and asif iqbal were quiet good in fitness but dont think they were better than malik

Miandad And Imran khan are the first one that come to mind. Miandad was over 36 and yet could sprint between the wickets better than any youngster in his team. Nearly all our 70's test player were very fit. I think this was because they used to play in countless leagues n england/australia & were always in playing condition.

Even younis and misbah are good examples of fit players. Other than that, I don't remember any fit players. Even in the 90's, we had fitness issues and the last decade has been the worst in this regard.

Maybe in terms of overall fitness malik is the best but moin was simply unmatchable in terms of running b/w the wickets.

Not his fan but I really like his running between the wickets. Very swift mover, has good sense of judgement of runs, and can adjust his running according to his partner.

Certainly one of our fittest cricketers ever. Hopefully the young and upcoming players can learn from Malik when it comes to fitness .

Of the current crop, yes he is the best
Hasan Ali is fitter than Malik. Really impressed with the former's fitness. Came in as a scrawny boy 11 months ago. Now he is a young man with supreme fitness.

I'd say Wahab is supremely fit. Seem him bowl some furious spells and gets injured far less than the average speedster.

I agree that he has improved and worked on his fitness a lot and is a generally fit and agile guy but I wouldn't call him the most physically fit to play for Pakistan. I think he isn't even in the top 5.

A fitness test was conducted in 2008 where Younis, Misbah, Fawad (the Usual Suspects) along with Gul were declared the fittest in the Pakistani team. Younis, Misbah, Fawad were also the fittest in the camp conducted last year so that means they have been consistently fit and should be rated above Malik.

I have seen Wasim's video of participating in a race against an athlete, so Wasim may have been at a completely different level.

Heard a lot of things about Imran so would assume that he too was supremely fit.

Even Afridi was rarely injured throughout his career but I dont think anyone would rate him a very fit player. He was strong and had charisma but I never rated him as a fit bloke or a great fielder (as so many perceive he was).

Additionally I remember Malik dehydrating and losing it in a few matches. In the 2008 Asia cup, he ran out of energy and had to retire not out after scoringa great century. In the next game he scored a painstaking 50 against Lanka but was clearly out of gas then too. So much was the effect that he had to miss the next game due to fitness reasons.
Secondly, in the 2015 test against England in Abu Dhabi, Shoaib Malik was as good as done by the time he scored that great 200. Anyone watching that time would remember sympathizing with him and would have delt relieved if he would have gotten out and be free from misery. Cook scored a mammoth double in the same conditions but wasn't as affected as Malik.

Concluding it, Malik is a fit and agile guy but nowhere near the top 5 from Pakistan

Among the current crop, Malik is the fittest. Imran Khan has been the fittest ever among Pakistanis , even now in his mid-60's he looks very fit and I heard spends lot of time in gym.

Azhar Ali is equal to Malik in fitness. One is bulky while one is lean; But both are the same overall.

Nope, it's always the fast bowlers that are the most well conditioned. Shoaib is a great athlete though.

Shan masood also seems to be extremly on top notch fitness ... on another note imran even in his 60's is better fit than half of our team

Malik is easily the best at running between the wickets in our team. His alertness is the sharpest and is agile as ever. Probably the fittest in the team.

Fitness tests are a bunch of random scores where some players show there best and some don't take it that hard. Even a blind man can listen to the commentry and say that Malik was a dozen times fitter player than the likes of Younis, Misbah etc.

Taking Afridi's name in the middle is a real disgrace!

Malik getting dehydrated etc. etc....A player is not always at his peak. Many Australian and English players have also left the field due to dehydration.

Pointing out his 245 on his comeback test is yet another wrong judgement to underestimate his fitness. Playing a test match and that too after 5 long years and that too in a desert!

Quite easily, looking at the on field performance, you can say that he has done the most hardwork.

Waseem Akram was a natural sportman and Imran also had to do a lot to come up to a specific fitness level.

Talk about over-exaggerating.
You may have a difference of opinion regarding their fitness but the statement you used is downright rubbish. The fitness levels of Younis and Misbah are unmatched, Malik isn't far off, at least not as far off as your statement was.

Then you probably don't follow live Pakistani matches. I've hardly seen any match since his comeback where the commentators doesn't appreciate his fielding for once.

Okay, forget about that...Tell me one thing.

Would you believe in what you listen or what you see?

The whole point of my disagreement is because of the fact that most of the people whether on forums or media come up with lame points to oppose someones conclusions just because they want too and nothing else. (never mind, the above statement is just my personal opinion)

Well, there is hardly a match of Pakistan I haven't watched in the last 13 years. He is a good fielder no doubt and his fitness is commendable, no argument on that, but for me he isn't the fittest guy to play for Pakistan, not in the top 5. We both generally agree that he has good fitness. Its just like all agree Lara was a great batsman but it is still disputed if he was the greatest ever or in the top 5.

Akram was indeed very fit. For those who haven't seen this, although he had a slight head start still a good achievement to be Steve Ovett, an Olympic medalist.

Thanks for sharing. Indeed veru impressive from Wasim. Interesting to see him speak too, seems like a completely different person to now.

Asif Iqbal was the fastest runner between wickets and the best outfielder for Pakistan. He never missed a test match because of form or fitness issues.
In his playing days he was known as the quickest man in cricket. Watch the 1973 final match between Kent and Worcester shire on YouTube and listen to the comments about him from Sir Len Hutton. He was by far the best and most agile Pakistani fielder.

A lot of people getting fitness and agility mixed up here. You don't have to be the most agile player to be the fittest
