Out-of the longstanding Top 4 consisting of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka seems to have seriously regressed while at the same time Bangladesh has made good progress.

Be it current style of play or upcoming youngsters in the side, Sri Lanka seems to be lagging the most.

Most worrisome factor is non-emergence of future Stars and no Legends to guide the team after retirement of Sanga and Mahala.

Opinions?

Lanka are still good in T20s and their test team are okay at home best Aus 3-0

afghanistan is even better who manage to beat bd at their home with one close match as well..

They are by far the weakest ODI side (or maybe as bad as Pakistan). In Tests however, they have slight edge over Bangladesh.

Afghanistan caught a bangladesh side that didn't play any cricket match for 6 months.

Honestly bangladesh looked rusty. Let's see if Afghanistan can beat us after match practice.

Lanka are definitelybetter

reasons are there but it takes much ability to beat a test playing nation who is on the rise and i am sure afghan will give tough time to bangla whenever they face each other..they are improved side they even almost defeated sri in wc.....if u take these things then 3-0 victory over pakistan was due to young team with new captain but u have to give credit when due..

Difference in new captain and not playing a match for 6 months but I agree Afghanistan are doing well but not better than Lanka

i am not defending our abysmal performance at all neither i am taking any credit away..but we had new team with many fitness issues with one of the worst cpatain ever but there must be some reasons we lost to bangla 3-0..why did we dotour if we were not ready..or why we carried passengers in the team? why did we selected such a bad captain..same why bangla did nt play for so long and why no practice match...why they lost the 3rd odi ,,rustiness sfter 2 matches......afghanistan will give tough time in t20 to every team in asia....specially in asians conditions.....in t20 afghan and bangla are not that different,..odi they are improving which is good for cricket.....by the way do u agree that mushrafi is weak point in t20 and may be in odi in this new team??

No sir check Mashrafe's performance.

I believe in performance.

Also he is a great captain.

But in T20s he is a poor death bowler

Sri Lanka is the weakest at the moment. But given its tiny population and huge interests in other sports such as rugby, it was inevitable that they would have a bad period at some stage.

Sri Lanka are a rebuilding side. Lots of inexperienced talent. Give them 2 years and they will be a force again

Depends in what format you're looking at.

Just because Bang have had some limited success in the ODIs, doesnt really mena they are better than SL. Come tournament time, Bang will be the weakest Asian side as usual.

Claiming that Bangladesh will sweep Sri Lanka sounds a bit cocky, specially when I can't recall a single Test series that Bangladesh won.
Maybe not sweep, but they will definitely win the series at home. Considering that they drew away.

keep dreaming, we are moving forward and going stronger that's how it is going on, unfortunately for you.

Well we will see. Let me know when Bang win a test match in England ... or you know, an ICC trophy. I'll be waiting.

People keep saying such but we keep providing them wrong

In CWC 2015 bangladesh went as far as Lanka and Pakistan did... No real difference

Let's see. CT and WC are in UK which is similar to NZ conditions. Where BD just lost 3-0 in ODIs.

I think BD will struggle to win even one match in CT.

well don't keep your mind stay with past just look for the present and future that's how you progress, depressed people always look for past glory..

We beat England in Australia so I am optimistic.

Of course it will be difficult

It was just one game. We lost to Eng at home.

That was a close fought series. But I think that with Soumya back in form and Miraz and Fizz in the side we have a superb side with all bases covered except for a proper finisher

Recently, Sri Lanka has beaten both India and Pakistan in Tests. They have also won a series against Australia.

Compared to this, Bangladesh has hardly done anything in Test Cricket to justify your optimism.

Yeah, Nasir hossain fell apart but wouldve covered that role if was in form.

Their 25 year upswing was bound to dive at some point. Angelo is the only class player they have who is not playing... and they look half the team without him.

They are going through a transitional period, but yes they are the weakest out the Asian teams imo.

BD could beat Australia too. They just beat England in a Test and Aussies were even weaker than Eng. when Lankans beat them.

Recently, SL hasn't beaten Ind. or Pak. w/out their retired legends. Both Ind. and Pak. would smash these Lankans left right and center on any pitch.

Optimism is by definition based on favorable future projections. The same SL side that thrashed Australia recently - who is fighting tooth and nail against India - was held to a series draw by a Bangladeshi side featuring as many as 7 rookies (under 10 caps total). Even an Indian A team would probably be more experienced and had they done the same you would say "this Indian A team has a lot of potential Test stars of the next generation". Key word = future. The only player missing was Angelo Matthews and he contributed zilch during the Australia series which SL still managed to win 3-0. We came very close to a draw against India in India and also fought just as hard as India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka in our recent trip to NZ.

Easily. In Tests only barely hanging on thanks to Herath and Perera for now at least at home. Herath is 39+ and Dilruwan is 35. In ODIs defo minnows the bowling, fielding and batting is downright atrocious. All these years it was Sanga/Dilshan/Malinga/Mahela/Kula keeping things afloat and papering over the cracks. Now that they are gone there's no one to hide behind any longer. Given that there are plenty of half cricketers and hacks to go around T20Is probably the only format where not a lot has changed. Will need a complete overhaul and fast to get out of this mess but who am I kidding been saying it for years. Nothing is gonna change. SLC and co will be chasing $$$$ and short term political gains until the goose is cooked. WI and Zimboks here we come!

As for BD very well done to BCB and co. They are building up to be a very solid team especially in the SC. It didn't all just happen over night. Few years back they restructured their domestic set-up and cut down the number of teams, hired quality coaching and support staff and handed them control even over selections, marketed the game well and got BPL back on track after a shaky start and have not been afraid to give opportunities to up and coming talents like Subashis and Mosaddek (averages 70 in FC btw) etc. All these things are finally starting to pay off. Don't forget they are a very young side too. Their two most senior players Shakib and Mushfiqur are not even 30 yet. So shouldn't be at all surprised to see them perform the way they have in recent times. What they lack is experience all the other ingredients are there for them. I think they'll surpass both SL and Pakistan over the coming years in all formats of the game.

Bangladesh are going to be a superpower of cricket very soon. Reason is that their nucleus is very young.
Same players are going to play for a long time to come resulting in upcoming players looking up to them and modelling their play over current breed of excellent players.
If politics is kept away from BCB , BD will be #1 team in SC.

They're not the weakest, it's just that they're the least attractive to watch with no superstars. ODI's is where they're lacking.
