Is the FIFA Women’s World Cup upstaging the Cricket World Cup in England?

Bruh nobody cares over here, womens soccerball is a niche sport.

And yet they have won the WC three times and the Olympics four times. I sometimes wonder where the US mens team would be if football was as popular as other sports like American football, Basketball etc in the US.

Mens football is far more competitive and although the US would have a good team they woudlnt match the success of the womens team.

Read somewhere that it was 5-0 or something but that's not my point. They have every right to play and compete in tournaments, competitions, World Cups etc as is only natural. My problem is overdoing the political correctness.

The Ashes is one of the oldest rivalries in sports, something that has been going on for almost a century and a half, making it into a circus just for the sake of everyone feeling better and getting more female related sponsorships just detracts from the grand solemnity of the event.

I can speak for Sweden and it’s crazy PC culture since i live here. While i played for a youth club in Stockholm called Brommapojkarna, we were forced to play alongside the female team sometimes because of that ’everyone is equal’ and all that **.

PC culture is spreading everywhere, even in Pakistan from what i see on social media(especially when i read posts on Mangobaaz). Nothing we can do about it lol.

PC culture is overtaking sports at a very fast rate. I mean, equality is good and all but people overdo it to such a point that it has become ridiculous.

My point was the reach and interest in the sport. The US have dominated pretty much every sport (and Olympics) they have put their mind to.

I was wondering what if football had as much exposure, history and dedication as American football, Baskbetball, Baseball etc. i'm sure they would have been a global force if they had a footballing history like South America, Europe etc.

The US dominates the sports they put an interest in because much of the world doesn’t take those particular sports seriously. I can’t think of many countries that take basketball that seriously apart from the US, Spain and former Yoguslavia.

I dont think the US have dominated every sport from from it. The most popular sports are Football, Cricket, Rugby, Tennis, Field Hockey, Boxing and Basketball in the world(since I last checked). Currently only in Basketball and most likely until the end of time US will dominate this , not the rest. Olympics sure but they have the largest population of first world nations so not surprising.

I understand your point, if the Yanks were obessed with football as much as the English, no doubt they would have a great team , winning the odd world cup etc but my point is dominating in football is near impossible unless you are the Brazilian side of the 50s-70s or the recent great Spanish side but these were rare occurances. One of the issues for US would be, a lone passionate nation in its area so would need to join the South Americans for competitve matches in the international stage or the club format.

I think it's too late for US mens team to ever get near to winning a world cup. Very difficult to change the culture of the nation to make football a major sport.

I dont undestand why USA plays sports such as baseball and American football, they are average sports which is why the world hasn't caught on unlike Basketball which is a great sport.

Australia is a force in almoist every sport.

we're on the rise

Australia is a force in almoist every sport.

Except soccer, they've not been any more successful than America, in fact we've made quarters once where the Aussies haven't made it past the 2nd round if i'm not wrong(?).

In India most people are not even aware that Women's football world cup is going on. Same could be the case in China as well. These are the two countries with the biggest populations.

Chinese public is well aware of FIFA women's World Cup.Chinese women team played in grounp B.Football is very popular in China. Many international football players and coaches have been hired by Chinese clubs.

It's not dying.

The interest is less, yes, but that's mostly the symptom of not being free to watch.

Football's views were higher because everyone could watch it for free, without any subscription. And it's shorter duration too.

Promoted in the news as well.

Cricket won't become the #1 sport there, but can become #2 - it's already #3.

* Make some/most matches free to air.
* Promote in news.
Pardon?

The EPL and Champions League are live on Pay-TV only just like cricket.

But football is thriving and cricket is dying.

Been reported that if England reach the World Cup final, it will be broadcast on free to air TV.

Cricket is 8 hours to 5 days. Football is 90 minutes. Also, football will remain more popular than cricket, very easy sport to play, follow and understand.

Cricket isn't dying amongst the masses, it's dead. There are various factors with the lack of FTA the main one, but Cricket is suffering cultural shifts because quite simply it's not seen as cool by young white and black kids. And the more Asian kids play the game the less whites and blacks see it as cool. There is no simple answer and I don't think anything can be done about it.

Loved Alex Morgans tea cup mock to England after her goal :)) England womens team has been pretty bad considering JPan has won one

The WC will likely be on Sky one for the semis and on Channel 4 for the finals. I think we will see much bigger viewership numbers for both.

Englands world cup games I read on a recent article averaged around 8 million viewers for the womans football on BBC.

Englands cricket world cup highlights, on at 11pm or some time, averaged 500,000.

Its not even close.

I would say that even Wimbledon first week so far has upstaged Cricket World Cup. Coco Gauff, the 15 year old American girl has received more hype (ESPN has also ensured to create enormous hype around this girl in US over the last few days) during first week of Wimbledon so far than the Cricket World Cup lol. If Wimbledon final is gonna happen between Djokovic vs Federer/Nadal, then that will get better ratings in England than Cricket WC Final.

In US Soccer is considered Women's game, hence they are all hyped about Women WC and are largely amused about the Men's WC (excluding immigrants and 1st Gen Americans).

not by a bit ...cricket world cup is being closely followed by billions all across the world. That is all what matters the most.

Man our women smoked all those countries. If we start taking Cricket as a sport and combine with WI, we would probably beat likes of Eng, NZ, Aus for fun lol.

I already mentioned to few of BD posters here that with little bit of training any US baseball team can beat Bangladesh in T20.

Women’s World Cup is more fun, I watched the England vs USA and it was entertaining :yk the celebration was gold
