Is the return of Akmal brothers inevitable after the Australian tour?

Most likely Pakistan is going to lose the test series in Australia. If the final result is 3-0 and the likes of Younis and Asad perform like the way they did in NZ, it is highly likely that Kamran (top performing batsman in the domestics) and Umar (liked by Mickey) are going to replace them. Also, Sarfraz has not been able to play a single big inning in any of the overseas tours so far, so there is a slight possibility that Adnan might get a recall too.

Do you think, we will see the return of all 3 Akmal brothers after the Australian tour? Is it really happening? Do Kamra, Umar, and Babar (from the same family) make a stronger top 4 in Pakistani batting unit?

I respect Kamran Akmal's performances in domestic, he's scored runs in tough situations for his team but we've been here before with him. He has a good 50 over or T20 domestic tournament but when he returns to internationals he's found out again. His record outside Asia in internationals is dismal. Has he genuinely improved his technique and what's the standard of bowling he's faced ?

Even if we are to recall Kamran, at 36 years old how many years would we realistically get out of him ? He wasn't the fittest of wicketkeepers. Not everyone is a Misbah or Younis. Would we be better served looking at younger players like Usman Salahuddin or Saad Ali ? Maybe Haris Sohail if he overcomes his fitness issues.

The door is always open for Umar Akmal but he's only played two FC matches this season and prior to this season went three years without scoring a single FC hundred. He needs more FC performances under his belt.

If you collate all of Mickey Arthur's statements, you will probably arrive at the same conclusion as me.

As long as Misbah runs the Test team, there is no way back for Umar Akmal.

But as soon as Arthur calls the shots, the three specialist batsmen in the middle order will be Babar Azam, Umar Akmal and Asad Shafiq, with Sarfraz at Number 6 and all-rounders at 7 and 8.

Kamran Akmal maybe as a replacement for Misbah if he retires. When I read Akmals name I was like ... but when I read "Sarfraz has not been able to play a single big inning in any of the overseas tours so far, so there is a slight possibility that Adnan might get a recall too." this thread became a joke...

0 50s in 6 tests now for Sarfraz outside Asia

Umar deserves another chance in test cricket. Sure mentally he's a bit dim and unstable but he's a bloody good cricketer. Pakistan needs to find a way to manage him properly.

In 2014, I correctly predicted Shoaib Malik's resurgence after the 2015 World Cup although I also thought he would get the captaincy.

Now, I am predicting a Kamran Akmal resurgence in 2017. I think he will make a comeback as a specialist batsman after Azhar gets sacked from ODIs and will form a successful opening combo with Sharjeel.

I'm on record as saying that outside Asia, where spin is rarely a factor, there may be more benefit to playing Mohammad Rizwan at Number 6/goalkeeper in place of Sarfraz, which would in the future allow:

6 Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7 Aamer Yamin
8 Mohammad Nawaz or Yasir Shah
9 Amad Butt
10 Hasan Ali
11 Mohammad Amir

Is this really happening  - We've been here like a million times over God knows how many years !!! The minute Akmal bradaran step onto the cricketing field it's as if we are playing with less than 2 men against the opposition.....

I'd mark it as a black day if K.Akmal ever returns to Pakistan cricket.

Akmal family at 3-5. Inzi, make it happen.

Adnan Akmal as well? Are you kidding. We wanna make this Test team more dynamic not less. On topic, Umar should bat in the top 5 Limited Overs and I feel he will do well under Mickey.

It was a joke btw. Don't wanna see Kami near the team.

Neither do I but Umar has to be there in ODI cricket at least. I know Mickey rates him and I have a feeling hes gonna give him a proper chance in the Australia ODI series to showcase his ability.

Umar is on his way back to the test team. They're gonna slowly bring him in like they did with Sharjeel. I can't wait for these two oldies to retire so we can see some actual batsmen.

Actually there is a real possibility of seeing this team going forward in tests,

very dynamic and solid batsman, azhar the only tuk tuk just to hold the one end and all other can score at good clip, and maintain a 3.5 plus rpo, and very solid pacers plus world class spinner, not many teams will beat this team easily.

We can't afford both sami and azhar, so sami have to sit out, and if shafiq fail in Aus as well which is very likely he should be kicked out as well. And both misbah and yk should be forced into retirement if they don't do so willingly.

Pakistan has a history of going with experienced middle order. Won't be surprised if Kamran makes a comeback as a middle order batsman once Misbah retires.

Umar's return is certain in all formats.

Sarfraz is not going anywhere anytime soon but Adnan can make a come back as a reserved keeper in tests.

Umar will be back. He will play in the odis vs Australia, and he will be involved in the test series following the Australia one.

Mark this post.

I would prefer Kamran to replace Misbah or Younis rather than Fawad.

Umar Akmal is one of the few modern day batsmen in Pakistani arsenal. He has been our best number 6 of all time in ODIs, and is among the top 10-15 batsmen in FC cricket in terms of average. He hasn't delivered in tests, but averages a remarkable 41 away from home. I would keep my fingers crossed for one of him, Fawad, Haris, Usman Salahuddin to replace Misbah and Younis.

As for Kamran Akmal, changing the label won't change the expiry date. And Adnan Akmal has already played his quota of matches for 10 lifetimes, so anything less than a 90% salary return to PCB, and a Kickstarter campaign for a brain cleansing machine that can remove memories of his innings would be ludicrous.
