Is this New Zealand team the weakest #1 team in the history of Test cricket?

Are we going to use the same excuse this time also if we lose? :kp :inti
Having the finals every time in England is definitely a flawed way of organizing the tournament, if England reaches the final they will play a home game, also for other Asian teams it will be difficult as these conditions are polar opposite.

The finals should be in the country who tops the table, that's the only fair way to do this.

For example if the finals was in SRL, that would have been very difficult for the kiwis.

I like NZ team a lot, but sad truth is, NZ achieved the least of any test team that ever became no.1 in tests.

Bairstow will be exposed by Bhumra, Shami, Siraj again just like he was in 2021. India has a relentless all conditions pace attack unlike NZ.

New Zealand were never undisputed #1.

They generally get whitewashed in India and Australia. They also lose in South Africa. That's not the trait of a true #1 team.

There is no real #1 in Test currently. Aussies can claim it if they can win in India.

Nobody gains the number one ranking illegitimately. They had it, and now they don’t. Teams rise and fall, peak and dip. They will be back in the future.

Some really bitter Indian fans lol.

It's pretty clear our cycle has ended and the team is rebuilding.

Tests may be a concern because I don't see any natural replacements for Kane, Boult and Southee but I think we should be fine in LOIs.

Because the standard of test cricket has fallen and is the weakest it’s ever been. This was bound to happen and we’re paying the price for the failure of trying to adapt test cricket to the modern world. And the solution isn’t too punish LOI, IPL etc, test cricket needs to be able to be profitable and hold its own without disadvantaging other formats otherwise the sport of cricket will not grow as a whole.
