I can't remember the last time we were so electric in the field.

Every player gives his 100% be it the first ball or the last ball and the young players really seem to be enjoying themselves

Mickey Arthur and Steve Rixon deserve a lot of credit. The way they have turned things around in only a year is remarkable

The results are due to a combination of things -
Professional coaches, introduction of younger players into team who grew up watching good fielding sides - therefore it has brought much needed enthusiasm into side and you can clearly see the team now enjoys fielding unlike before.

exactly

the current coaching staff is probably our best ever as well

We dropped a sitter in the last match which resulted in us losing the match.

most athletic and physically fit Pakistani team ive seen. You see a lot of energy that 10 years ago wasnt there. the new gen seem to be taking the dieting the conditioning work on board.

The more professionalism u introduce this is what u get.

Major progress.

Has a lot to do with the fitness of these guys. Only a few continue to lag behind.

Seen it before. In 97-98 during the world series in a us they were OK. Same in England in 2001..then went back to lazy biryani eating. Let's hope this is a mentality change not just a " mickey chachay ka baad moaj mela"

Younger players such as Babar, Shehzad (although rubbish batsman), Shadab, Fakhar Zaman and Hasan Ali are just a live wire in the field.

Goods signs for Pakistan cricket going forward.

Motivation counts for something too; many of the same players were around under Azhar but they
rarely looked lively until Sarfraz took the lead. You could see the difference from match to match.

Mickey Arthur and Sarfraz get the credit for this. This team is watchable and play with enthusiasm unlike the boring and fake aggressive teams of past. Sarfraz always push the players to give 100,℅ on the field and players seem to enjoy playing under his captaincy.
Mickey is pushing for a new culture where fitness is important.

Sarfraz, Imad, Rumman need to work on their fitness .

Don't forget Steve Rixon. He has done an excellent job as fielding coach.

Rumman is already looking fitter compared to when he first burst on to the scene (think he has lost around 10kg), but Imad looks terrible.

The greatest change has been in the nutrition department.

Giving up on rice and roti is more signficant than any new training regimes that might have been implemented.

All of it is due to the popularity of t20 cricket. You can't survive in t20 cricket without the help of good fielding skills. PSL also deserves the credit due to the fact that the youngsters get to share the dressing room with decent athletes and learn their work ethics.

its about time, gone are the days when we were leaking 20-30 runs in the field because we were just not good enough!

Pointless comment, even if it's sarcasm.

The thread is about the general level of fielding being at an unprecedented level for Pakistani cricket - one or two dropped catches happen to all world class teams even the best ones on a regular basis.

Perhaps

Honestly the best fielding (in a single given series) from a Pak side I have seen was on the Sri Lanka tour ODI and T20 series of 2015

damn some of the out fielding and catching was electric

Yes it has to be up there. The odd dropped catch may still occur but our overall intensity and body language is so positive. Our players always look like they are up for fielding rather than standing around with hands in their pockets.

PSL has raised the standards .

Youngsters playing and sharing dressing room with International players , can look at their diet habits , training , ethics etc.

Anwar and Rizwan were beastly in the field. But not so much in other areas... imagine if we still had them in the team alongside the likes of Shadab.

Yes Anwar and Rizwan were like panthers in the field

Youth brings energy.

Excellent fielding unit but still a couple of weak links.

I think we are slowly coming towards the 2007 Indian revival model. A smart captain who likes to bring the chokehold with athletic, nimble fielders. Probably the biggest revolution in South Asian cricket!

I'm really loving the atmosphere in this team ever since we won that last ODI in England. Very insignificant game ofc, but I think it instilled belief in us that we had been lacking for about 4 years since 2012, our lowest point in LOIs. Yes it does coincide with the end of Misbah's tenure a little bit as well as Azhar's, and I think the core players since that win have worked hard and have been committed since.

There's still a lot of work to do mainly getting a good 2nd opener in both tests and ODIs, test team is also in transition. But I think this is the first time in like 5 years I feel confident about our team and think they are potentially world class.

Our fielding is much improved. There isn't many passengers in the field. Also most important thing is most of the players seem to enjoy fielding and are now taking it seriously. In the past that hasn't always been the case with our players.

The problem is though, where to hide Sohail Khan? :)

The likes of Fawad Alam, Rizwan will make the team even more athletic. Top atheletes both of them

Credit goes to the management for setting standards with fitness and fielding. You can see the players starting to take pride and ownership of their fielding efforts.

The day they start competing with each other as fielders, we'll become the best side in the world.

Is this the best fielding unit in Pakistan's cricketing history?

Well that is what I felt so far.The fielding standard has improved so much after 2015 especially since Sarfraz took over..I would also like to add that we were never a good fielding unit especially in the 90s and late 2010s when we were stuck with Irfan and Rahat who could not hold a ball...

We have come a long way..

Shadab,Hassan,Malik,Zaman,Wasim are gun fielders if I am not mistaken we took 4 run outs in the 2nd T20I

Tbh I also do not remember the last time a Pakistani player dropped a catch...

What do you guys think?

Wasim is pretty bad fielder... No doubt fielding has improved very much.

We have dropped quite a few chances against Sri Lanka across formats, as well as in Champions Trophy.

Athleticism has improved though
