Not included for the biggest tournament in cricket - what does the future hold for him?

Not really. He's included for the 17 against eng so still has a good chance

I have to admit I was 100% sure that he will be part of the final 15. It is a very ballsy decision and a clear statement of intent.

Unfortunately, it appears that the Champions Trophy Final was the zenith of his career and not a sign of things to come.

He will probably feature on and off in the future, but the days of golden boy treatment are over.

He has no one but himself to blame. Since 2015/2016, he has been given consistent chances in all formats but he has been strictly average.

Should have been there instead of Faheem or Junaid.

Both are awful

Well put.

A couple of days ago, Amir was seen with his arms folded and with a cap on his head during an indoor net session. Whist the other bowlers looked into it and were sweating it out with azhar. I understood then, that something Is up. He must have been told earlier.

It's a joke when a far inferior Junaid Khan is selected over him.

:)))

They got this one completely wrong. Anyway, he'll be in the World Cup squad after the England series. Or we're going to have a very bad time at the WC.

I am shocked that he hasn't been selected. I would have selected him but you can't keep performing poorly and expected to be selected.

I don't want to see Amir playing the victim here with his PR team , it is his own fault he hasn't been selected. Now he has to put the hardwork and concentrate on getting back on the team. He needs to improve his fitness and if I was him I would improve in the other facets. This will show the selectors and fans his desire to play for Pakistan. At times on the pitch , he doesn't seem interested. You are playing for your country , how can you feel like that ? This maybe the kick up the backside he needed.

I am eager to see how he responds.

Yes this has been coming ever since his last game in England. However he will probably get a chance to get himself in the 15 after the England series where he has always done well.

They havenot completely dropped him.He has a chance vs England.

But they have certainly given him a very good message.
Your place is not guaranteed but put in the hard work and you just might be selected.

Can someone post Amir's stats in England, players like Morgan and Buttler will eat Junaid Alive.

+1 same

I am shocked he is not your first choice bowler. He can choke one end if not take wickets. Has he regressed so badly?

I am rather shocked at speople who were calling for Amir's ouster being shocked at this decision. What do you guys want?

This was a ballsy decision and i am happy to see Junaid getting the nod.

I'm not a Fahim or Junaid fan but what were you expecting when Amir averages 92 with the ball since CT17 ?

To put that into context, Mark Wood is the second worst performing regular seamer and he averages 47.

Amir has nothing to complain about.

The spot fixing scandal actually extended his career for far longer than it deserved. He is just a hype job and nothing else.

The message given here is you better be ready for the WC with a string of strong performances in the England series coming up or you will be on the plane home before the tournament.

Although Junaid has come up with some good performances in UAE and had a good CT, he is an even inferior bowler to Amir when it comes to wicket taking ability and defensive bowling.

Amir is a big match player. You need a bowler like him to win crucial matches. Stupid to not include him in the WC Squad.

Precisely - he knows how to keep calm under pressure as evident from his track record in big ICC matches from the 2009 WT20 final to 2017 CT final.

Or is this the beginning of Amir’s another redemption.

Only time will tell.

A profile I wrote of Mohammad Amir for the World Cup which may not be needed:

Mohammad Amir

When Mohammad Amir arrived in international cricket he was a breath of fresh air and exactly what Pakistan cricket and the world of cricket needed. Quick, skilful and fearless, he was a sight to behold for cricket-lovers around the globe. Seam movement, conventional swing, reverse-swing and searing pace were the trademarks of the original Mohammad Amir. He was all-set to take pace-bowing to a higher-level. But if the truth be told, then the 5-year ban on Mohammad Amir has taken its toll on his bowling and since his return to the international fold he has been a shadow of the teenage pacer that the world sat up and took note of. 5 years out of any professional sport will take its toll on any sporting star and there is no doubt that Mohammad Amir has a lot of work to do before he reaches the dizzy heights of 2009 and 2010. His return to cricket was greeted with a lot of anticipation, but question marks were being raised about him even before he had played for Pakistan post-ban. The fact is that those question marks are still there as Mohammad Amir has been nowhere near the bowler that Pakistani fans were hoping he would be post-comeback. His lack of consistency and his lack of potency have reached worrying levels. Despite the mediocrity in his bowling, there have been occasional sparks of brilliance such as in the Champions Trophy final in 2017 at The Oval when he tore out the heart of the Indian batting line-up. But those great spells have been a rarity rather than a regularity and many Pakistani fans have already lost patience with Amir. Now aged 27 many would expect Amir to be at his best, but question marks are still there and mainly around whether he has the capability and desire to play all 3 formats for Pakistan. The World Cup provides Amir with another chance to win over his critics and nothing but the best will be expected from him.

Beautiful read Saj.

Please send this to Amir. May aswell ignite a fire in his belly.

A gun bowler but not upto his mark since last year.

Selected Hasnain for the World Cup after just 1 series?

That is how Inzi works :ua, drops shinwari who averages 19 with 28 wickets in 5 matches.

Drops the experienced Amir because of the current form

Abid 1 century selected as third opener when it is highly unlikely that they would drop Imam or Fakhar

Rizwan two centuries dropped when there is a need to have an extra middle order batsman + one of the best fielder in the team who will come in handy as a 12th sub fielder.

No back up wicket keeper if sarfraz gets injured may be need to sit out for a game due to being sick or injured. :misbah

The hype job had a big say in PAK winning 2 icc trophies. He played a MAJOR part in giving PAK fans serious bragging rights vs the parosees.

He will find his way back during the ENG series.

He will play the WC!

Abid ali is the backup wicket keeper.

I think Mohammad Amir needs to be open about his motivation to play for Pakistan. There is a lot of conversation around him wanting to garner a County Contract and permanently move to England.

Amir averages 38 with the ball in ODI cricket in England. Junaid averages ten points better and get this, he also has a better economy-rate.

I believe him. Inzamam was right to exclude him from the WC 15 for two reasons: a) Given his recent performances, he does not deserve to be there and b) This is going to light a fire inside him and we'll see him bowl better than he has in years, InshaAllah. Amir always performs best when under pressure and with something to prove, which is why he will probably force his way into the 15 by the end of the England series, with Faheem (hopefully) being the one on standby.

Well at least he isn't salty.

What he needs to do to get back in the squad:

1- Get rid of that God awful short of a good length ball (outside off) he keeps bowling even when the ball is new...that is a sure shot failure anyone can see coming from miles. He has been afraid to pitch the ball up a bit (not completely sure why), well in the England ODI series he needs to start pitching it a bit fuller or else it is bye bye for good.

2- He needs to attack the stumps more and make the batsman play every ball. Again see first point.

3- He also needs to bowl a surprise yorker from time to time which has been completely missing as well. This is a good ball to bowl when batsman least expects it and if the ball swings a bit, you have a sure shot wicket at your hand.

4- Most importantly, he needs to get closer to the stumps, just because of that 'No Ball', there is no need for him to be always bowling in defensive mode. When gets closer to the stump, his in-swing becomes more pronounced as well

If he does all these things or at least be preapred to make the batters guess what is coming next, I have no doubt he will be a top performer in the ODI series and could slant in easily in the squad if one of the bowlers get injured*

They got this one completely wrong. Anyway, he'll be in the World Cup squad after the England series. Or we're going to have a very bad time at the WC.

Bad time because a non-performing bowler is not selected?

Great post.

Point number 4 is actually a very good one, he needs a psychiatrist who can give his confidence back and let him believe in himself.

It is all in the mind.

Let's see if Amir's big ego can handle being dropped from the WC squad. Will it fire him up for England ODI series and force his selection for the final WC squad? Or will he sulk and have the same typical lethargic performances since 2018?

I think the latter but hope to be proved wrong.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of a new fairytale, from not getting into the original 15, to helping Pakistan win the World Cup by putting some brilliant performances throughout the England series and WC.

You never know which Amir will turn up.

When on song he is our best bowler.

Today, I wonder if Amir knew a month or two ago that he wasn't going to be in the squad.

The reason I say that is that I was asked by the ICC to interview him for the World Cup programme and he made excuses and didn't do it.

I'm not sure if that belly is more worried about $$$$s than wickets.

Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma, Pathan have won India world cup and CT finalsyet are not hyped at all. With 330 on board in a major final, even Sami would have defended that score, its never been chased ina major final

Just because it's never been chased doesn't mean it won't eventually be chased.

That Indian team was more than capable of chasing it down, hell Kohli himself alone would have chased it down if it wasn't for Amir.

Yes even 434 can be chased on special day but chances of that happening are rare. Once 340 has been hit, the chances of that being chased are less than 10%.

Now you are simply hyping Indian Batsmen to moon to make your Prince Amir look great . I bet you will give him credit even when the target was 400 and claim that India would have chased 400 that day.

If pathetic Pakistani batsmen are scoring 340, then ofcourse Indian batsmen are more than capable of scoring the same.

We saw what happened in 2012 Asia Cup when 330 was on the board.

Fact of the matter is you still have to dismiss the batsmen, they don't dismiss themselves.

One of your Hacks had a great day at the top and that was the main reason Pakistan won. Even Henry Olonga and Heath Streak can defend 340 in the finals, koi 150 runs defend nahi kar diye.

If that was true then 330+ would have never been chased down, ever.

It was on a very flat track. Kohli messed it up.

In all formats or just T20s? Sorry, I don't follow domestic cricket at all.

Haha yar kia ho gya, No problem bhai.

One days and sometimes 4 days. I didnt follow his t20 career.

But to be honest he is not natural to keeping. I would say a part time keeper.

In Pakistan he Amir is a superstar 90 percent of the people want him to play.

We can hype him as much as we want.

Agreed, a bowler of his skill and speed should at least be able to get some cheap wickets in every match just based on his experience and the respect he gets from most teams...yet, he barely has been getting any of those as well!

There is def some tinkering needed with his confidence and way of approaching his bowling and the whole game plan!

Interestingly Virat Kohli has scored more centuries than the no of wickets he has taken in ODIs since the CT2017 final 😉

No good to criticize someone when he is down.I agree Amir has been poor but he has that X factor which I don't see for any other bowler in PCT.
Starc has also been poor since sandpaper but still Aussies back him.Sometimes you have to look beyond stats.Amir easily makes this team in place of Faheem who is Garbage.Faheem has more wickets than Amir but anyone will be delusional to think he can produce spells which Amir has produced. As they say form is temporary and class is permanent,I am sure Amir will play WC and perform very well

I reckon that he still has a chance to slip in the WC squad if he plays really well in the English series.

I mean if he delivers then by all means select him but should he only deliver in two matches but fail in the rest and still get selected then I’m sorry that is simply not justified.

He thought his ban only being 5 years was the end of it but Karma is real and Karma is that he will never be be the same player pre 2011.

This is a good reality check for him - time is moving, it’s time for the next generation of bowlers to shine (Shaheen Shah etc).

He'll be in and out of the ODI team I am sure. In T20I's and Tests though, he is good.

Still somebody is crying for him
Shame

Yes he hasn't been taking many wickets but his economy rate has been decent I think.

He is a big game player so should have been in the squad ahead of Junaid imo but I can understand him being dropped.

Where's the Karma for one of our all time greats that made the horrendous decision to bat first at one of the World Cup finals when it was bowl first conditions?

Career is over.

He was never going to be the same after he was banned. That time off did him in. Yes he didn't play well, but 5 years off of your career, and you will never be the same. He has himself to blame for having those 5 years off obviously, but yes, sad end of a career, and that too which could have been a very good one by Pakistani standards.

Performance wise Junaid has been superior to him, not sure on what basis are you calling him inferior to Amir? You are trying to look different, lol.
