What's new

Is Umar Amin the best puller of the ball in Pakistan?

Shehzad has looked hopelessly out of touch, so most people are ridiculing him at this time, but yes he was a better bat technically than the likes of Talat, Asif or Malik. The game isn't just about nice shots though, and he had way too much regard for his own ability.

Umar Amin and Akmal are playing well so far in this tournament, and as someone who likes to see proper cricket shots rather than desperate sloggers who miss the ball more often than they connect, I am pleased to see it.

My issue that's heavily swayed my assessment of Amin is I've seen him play live during the CT13. In probably the worst ODI team in our history, he was actually awful. In a game that we lost against South Africa at Edgbaston he scored a mighty 16 runs from 29 balls after checking the scorecard. Had we even batted our full quota of 50 overs chasing, we still wouldn't have reached the target of 235.

I know that was a fairly long time ago and that he does look good when playing shots but I think he would need a vast improvement from what I saw and this seems highly unlikely otherwise he'd been back in the team sooner. Anyway, as there is still some backing for him on these boards, I will wait and see what he can do in the remainder of the PSL because if he can strengthen the team, then I'm all for his inclusion as well.

I guess he has had a lot of time (5-6 years) to improve and I guess the situation back in CT13 was completely different.

Oh boy, far far from it. He is terrible batsman like million others. Today they bowled him predictable lengths, was at see when attack on good length.

Sharjeel was best puller, rest cannot hand pace and bounce with any authority. Babar and Shaun are other two you can handle pace and bounce.

Yup, No one beats Sharjeel Khan in this department

Surprised to see people calling Umar has a great technique lmao.

Havent we seen enough of him? The guy struggles against the moving ball and often gives slip fielders catching practice. Plus he cant pressure and is a softie.

The insane irony from someone with Sarfi in their name and sig.

I get where you are coming from but we have to make a distinction between a guy who is primarily a keeper and bats at 6 or lower, and a top order batsman who does nothing else.

When did i say Sarfraz is quality against pace bowling? Infact i have said multiple times in past that Sarfraz is weak against pace. So stop with your meaningless posts.

Btw even though Sarfraz is an inferior bat than Amin he has acheived more as a captain & wicket-keeper batsman for Pakistan than Amin will ever acheive.

Good overall balanced post!

Yep yesterday was truly special, all he needs now is selection and then backing like Imam is getting. Who's far inferior.
Pardon my ignorance on this because I hadn´t been following cricket much the recent months, but didn´t Imam-ul-Haq begin to perform right away after being brought in? Or did he too fail in the initial matches? I ask this because I thought he was going alright, no?

these were his scores before that 61*.. he is his own biggest enemy.

Babar Azam is very good on both hook and pull.
Kohli has been bounced out quite a few times in his recent ODI’s vs Aus and NZ.

Uneven bounce has gotten out anyone including Dravid. On a true wicket Kohli and Rahane absolutely destroyed Johnson and co with devastating pulls. It is not like scoring 50 odd runs. Both crossed well over 100 runs in that partnership. Kohli made 156. Kohli pulled Aussie pacers most recently in the Australian series on the front foot standing more than a foot outside. These guys are fearless pullers.

It’s frustrating that many of these promising players struggle against spin unlike Indian players who typically are adept at playing it. Umar Amin should have had a decent run as a Pakistani cricketer. Did look very good in this match and it was fun to see a local batsman doing well.

Likely most suited to test cricket he never really got a chance in that format - other than a debut series at age 21 or so in early summer England against excellent bowling which in my mind doesn’t really count as a proper chance.

Well said.

Though he's very suitable to LOIs as well, a dynamic player.

These players are doing well bashing these minnow bowlers around on dead UAE tracks, but they start shakin and forget how to bat when it comes to the international stage. Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf can be put in the same category.

The thing with Umar Amin is that he looked good in the NZ series, but then suddenly got dropped for the next T20 series.
