Ishant Sharma: "I want to bowl at 100MPH"

I almost feel bad for him. I hope he can at least get back upto the 80MPH mark.

100 MPH - The speed at which Ishant ran back to the dressing room after Day 1 of the Test Match...................

waiting for india's home series against australia, it'll be interesting to see how they doctor the speed guns when india's bowling.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

the day he bowls anywhere near 100mph will be the day i stop watching cricket

Oh my god I hate ishant so much.

He leaves me zero material to defend him with.

Rubbish bowler. Everytime he plays I keep praying it is his last game above club level.

Ishant is pure garbage. I had mentioned that during and before IPL 1 too. Just not ready for international level. To that matter most of indian fast bowlers (except Zak) are more or less of that quality.

If they get helping pitch, they may get some wickets but, the moment its a flat pitch they are clueless. Do not have the capacity to take wicket without any help from pitch.

I had said it before and saying again that team India is not getting serious about their bowling. A team can never win a tournament without a formidable bowling dept. Team need to have both batting and bowling dept working if it wants to win a tournament like WC.

Imagine this bowler has a bowling consultant in Akram at his disposal in IPL. What did he learnt from him. He was garbage before and still the same.

If he can not improve after help from Akram, then he is useless. Just throw him back to play Saurastra Vs Patna.

There are many underachievers In team India I have seen, but this is the least trying of them. No improvement at all.

He had a decent start to his career. The BCCI has only itself to blame. They make their fast bowlers play too much cricket, this IPL hasnt helped matter's either and the Indian team in comparison to Pakistan gets too play a lot of international cricket in any case and Ishant is always used like a slave.

Its no surprise he looks so worn out and his bowling action looks so out of place.

The guy is seriously looking tired , too much cricket perhaps . He is performing way below par for a while , needs a lay-off from cricket , 1 or 2 years should do fine .

Thats not completely true. I agree with all the points you mentioned about BCCI and Indian team playing too much cricket.

But Ishant has not been playing too much. He is been out of ODI team which had given him a good time to work on his bowling. Even the monkey Shreesaanth is working on his bowling and whatever minute, he is making progress. This guy is bowling exactly the same ball for which he was out of the team.

I was always in favor of giving him more time as we do not have bowlers sitting on the bench. But if you see today's match and the balls he bowled, you can be sure that he is definitely not serious about his career or he feels he has made enough money thru IPL.

Same out side off short ball and short on leg which easily flicked to fine-leg. except one or two fluke balls (which went past the bat), I didn't see a single ball which had a remote chance of taking a wicket.

Even the debutant bowled some wicket taking balls and was unfortunate not to get couple of good LBW shouts.

I don't support ppl who don't even try. Whoever he may be.

Well , if he's not serious about his career then I will gladly say that drop him , have him rot a year or 2 . After that maybe he'll show some seriousness , :akhtar

It's very very very mind boggling that how a country of 1 billion people couldn't and still can't find a bowler who is a genuine pace bowler! There has gotta be something more than just meat eating and it's not like there are no meat eating Indians in India. I personally don't believe in pace bowling and meat eating theory. So much cricket craze, but yet to find a pacer is sad.

No He won't be serious ever as per my assesment. Atleast till his 3 years IPL contract money is not over. Hopefully by that time, few young serious bowlers come in and keep him out.

If you can not cement your position in Indian bowling line up after so many chances, then you are a donkey. You don't deserve anything.

I never criticise Munaf, Sreesaanth or even Nehra. The two bowlers who never improve or even lack eagerness to improve are Ishant and RP Singh.

I saw a bit of the test match today.

He was rubbish - serving up absolute pies. One thing he has on his side is time. He is a young lad and with the right guidance he could still become a decent bowler. Although, right now he seems to be going through the motions.

Should be dropped. He is gifting free runs.

Meat eating theory is crap. Just do a research and you will find out how much meat eaters are there in India.

If there are so many hard hitters why can't be bowlers. Muscle power is used in both.

Bowling is a skill. Its an art. There are lot of thinking especially bowling in test cricket.

Why Pakistan is not producing a half decent batsman? Similar reason. I have seen bowling craze in Pakistan fans and youngers. In India everyone likes to bat.

Just check most popular cricketers in our history. All batsman.

Did Kumble get the star power like Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly or Dhoni? His contribution to our wins was not less.

Yuvi is more popular than Zak.

Why would a youngster like to be a bowler?

While dropped, this bloke doesn't appear in domestic nor at NCA. How he is gonna improve. This is one of the out put when you get millions of dollars at the age of 19.

Every young cricketers in India should attend classes from Sachin on how to manage money, fame while learning and improving your game.

Your correct the meat eating theory is just silly. India has over 150 million Muslims not to mention the many others who don't think twice about getting the chicken out the field into the pot.

I think it's a combination of a few things including:

1. There is a lack of great fast bowlers but plenty of batsmen, so youngsters will want to be batsmen. Most only bowl because someone has to.

2. I was debating this with an Indian on another forum and he said most yongsters play with the tennis ball while in Pakistan it's a tape ball. Obviously the tennis ball doesn't give them much encouragement as they normally end up with figures similar to Ishant's today.

3. The use of spinners. In India spin is introduced almost immediatly, they only use the quicker bowlers for a few overs while the ball is new. If spin is the main weapon then obviously fast bowlers will not be allowed to progress through. Pakistan understood that pace is vital as sometimes the pitches don't spin at all. India have been playing with four bowlers for a long time now, usually its Ishant, Zaheer, Harbajhan and Mishra. Pakistan also allow raw fast bowlers to improve their accuracy while in India they would get little chance as there are only two places avaialbe for the quicks.

I'm not sure how this could be changed with India's outlook on cricket but I'm sure in a population of that size there is plenty of fast bowling talent, somewhere.

Only when India have plenty of fast bowlers will they keep their no.1 postion or dominate cricket like the West Indies of the 80's and the recent Australia team.

it has got nothing to do with meat eating.

in this case we have to compare india vs pak fast bowling, basically same geographic's, same weather etc etc

the only reason pakistan seems to produce fats bowlers is, we play tape ball cricket, the more u try, the more effort and the more energy u put in the delivery the faster the balls is. its proven fact.
on the other hand when u ball with a tennis ball the best u can do is ball a perfect line and length so the batsman has a chance of getting out. and if you try to put more effort into a tennis ball the best it will do it is give you extra bounce which will easily fly over the batsman lacking any pace.

alot of our fast bowlers are discovered on street corner, roads etc even in there late teens they are balling with tape balls, so if they are spotted they are taken straight into nets of clubs or nca where they are given a cricket ball which is pretty similar in speed to a tape ball, only difference is cricket balls weight more.
on the other hand indian bowlers are picked from playing with tennis balls and then given cricket balls at clubs or academy where even if they try to ball fast, they cnt becuase u learn the art of balling fast when you are young, when you are developing your game. Fast balling cant be teached, you develop it when you are young from balling on the roads playing with your friends.

i dont see india produce a 140k+ bowler's for a long long while. they might be the ocassional one or two but we are not going to see a the pace attacking having 3 or 4 90+ bowlers.

Do you know how this tape ball came about? Has it been around for decades and how did start?

Thanks.

Yep I remember going to Pakistan when I was about 9 and faced 10 year olds swinging the ball at me. :))

I remember at that time I wanted to bowl more, so your observation in the earlier post is spot on.

It would be interesting to find out when and how this tape ball came about, as far as I know Pakistan is the only country in which this happens.

Fast bowling is very hard work and Indians tend to take the easy, short way in every field so nobody wants to become a fast bowler in India. The passive & genetically weak nature of Indian chromosomes doesnt help either.

so, how many super fast bowlers have been unearthed by Pakistan of the late after Shoaib? don't tell me that Aamer is an express bowler. I remember the hype created on this board about Sohail Khan and Wahab Riaz. where they all did go? all one match wonders?

Well - Mohammad Aamer is usually around the 90 MPH mark or just under it. All of this at the ripe age of 18. If he adds more muscle - he will really start cranking the speeds up. We can't count him out as a "express bowler", but you are correct he's not at Akhtar level - no one is.

Wahab Riaz and Sohail Khan are still around, but were not good enough. They need more grooming at the domestic level. Mohammad Talha is another speedy bowler.

Plus, we still have Akhtar cranking up in the low to mid 90s even with the fat.

Ishant was pretty good in his first few series, it has been downhill since he said he wants to bowl 100mph.

A young bowler says he wishes to do better. It's idiotic to make a joke of it. Or d cricketers in Pakistan do not wish to do better? Probably.

Dreams are a wonderful thing are they not?

mate muhammed talha easily hit's mid 90's, so yes pakistan can any day bring out and out and out fast bowler.
on the other hand how long are we going to wait for indian fast bowler?

Err then why is your stronger team of pakistan sucking at Test level?

Hasnt your ex=-captain said that he is only for ODI and T20---so whos taking the short cut.

Maybe your family missed out the chromosomes and strands that produce brains while reproducing you.

aamer bowls over 90k- its proven fact
gul evenb bowled at 90k - at lords. you can check the highlights
wahab riaz hits 90 k
sohail khan hits 90 k

muhammed talha hit 146k on a lahore pitch. imagine him in australia

what else do you want.

You guys are proving quite good at fabricating things out of thin air. :13:

I never said Pakistanis shouldnt respond to any thread, but to mock a 19-year fast bowler fast bowler based on a loose statement he made is something that is super-lame and churlish.

:) Fast............avg speed 83mph......first day first test

"can", but not yet "did". Ishant too hit 150 mark in australia if you are unaware.

he will regularly bowl around that pace, not just hit it like sharma did once.

mate muhammed talha is express you cnt put sharma and him in the same category

of course, speed guns dodgy :)) :)) :)) :))

i stand corrected, sharma did hit it.
the difference is mohammed talha regularly would ball that pace. like sharma aamer hits the 150 mark in ausrtralia dosnt mean he will regularly ball around that mark.

ok.. now we reach to an agreement. he wasn't bowling regularly at that speed but was bowling consistently at 145 km in that season and he used to bowl long spells as well. the interview has done at that period and as a young aspiring talent nothing wrong to make such statement. unfortunately due to injury and the follow up coaching, his downfall was fast. but, mocking him and stating Aamer as the next big thing is silly because Aamer is yet to establish in the international areana.

haven't seen Talha yet, so no comments. but the questions is, if he can bowl consistently at high speed over the years. if he can, then good for Pakistan.

Aamer may yet to establish himself, but nearly every commentator, sports writer ex players etc have said aamer is the next big thing in world cricket. the best young bowler around hands down. you wont find a better 18 year old quickie then him in world cricket.

Talha is very quick, quickest after akthar i think but has had problems with his back, and had a change of action aswell becuase his old action caused him injuries. i dont think he is getting in the team infront of asif, aamer and gul but definitely has raw pace. mayb u will see him in U.A.E against the saffers.

i have a question for you dont you think indian media and fans tend to make their fast bowlers world beaters even if they average bowlers? a bit over rated i think

Though the questions not directed towards me, but I will take the pleasure to answer.

Hell YES, they do hype them like anything.

Though they do perform sometime, but it would be wrong if I say the media don't hype them.

The reason why they do ? Well I guess everyone can guess that.

They said the same thing or even more about Sharma as well because he was too looking as the next big thing in his first season and he too was just 19 years old at that time.

he has been hyped that time because he was looking extremely good, not like as average seamer as he is now.

Ishant Sharma has proven that he is very ordinary now. He hasn't learnt anything since he was dropped few months back. I think he needs a long break from cricket, something like 2 years or so. I don't see any improvement in Indian bowling prospects in the coming years as more IPL games = more disaster. Unless we can keep these youngsters out of mickey mouse cricket and huge money, we will not see a half decent pace bowler from India.

I expect more prospects to fall away in the coming years. I guess by the time Zaheer retires we might end up with Bajji opening the bowling. BCCI is absolute crap, if they had any interest in improving Indian cricket they should stop these youngsters from playing in the IPL circus.

everynow and then people take a a dig at ishant and no one notices him, when he bowls a good spell. He bowled an excellent spell today beat the bat often and also took two wickets in the first session.

Giving a fititng reply with his wonderful spell today. On a good batting wicket, he is running in hard and getting the ball to talk. Wonderful spell from him so far. Bowling at 84-85 mph and moving it both ways leaving the batsmen clueless. His over to Mahela was a classic one.

What a comeback after the pasting on day one.

If only he could be a lot more consistent with his bowling...

A wonderful spell from him today . Bowled with good control and moved it both ways .

28 overs 145 runs 3 wickets Econmy rate of 5.17 ..what a bowler :)))

melinga and herat (both non batsmens) hammered him all around the park all day today ..he only bowld well for about 4 or 5 overs today and then got hammered ...i swear if :afridi starts bowling fast .he would probebly be faster and better then all indian "PACERS" .. this is what u call a pace attack :akhtar:wasim:asif :younis :aamir :naved :gul

You keep that pace attack and your no 6/7/8 ranking, we will keep our no 1 ranking with our useless bowlers, deal?

I think the problem is that Ishant was hyped uncontrollably by the Indian media after his series in Australia in 2008, which was outstandingly mediocre with 6 wickets at an average nearing 60. He's a mediocre bowler, end of story, Sreesanth should be getting a go more than this guy.

indeed, talked up to the sky because of one friggin spell!

but he's a decent bowler, even Sreesanth is.

u r at no.1 coz of ur batsmens not ur 125mph pacers ..and dont worry about where we are at the moment ..we r still way ahead aganist ur rockstars overall

ODIs.69-45
TESTs.12-9

In that series in Aus, Ishant averaged 60+ :))):)))

the indian editor at cricindia was praising him 4 2days performance....thats funny

I dont understand that Indian Board has so much money, why not bring good bowling coaches or consultants and let them groom or coach players. It is shocking for a country with population over 1 Billion and still can not find geniune fast bowlers. Look at countries like NZ and WI, small population but still able to find good fast bowlers.

They Do have World's Most expensive Pace Bowling Foundation Called " MRF PACE FOUNDATION ".

According to me Ishant is not a bowler who can get 500 test wickets under his belt at the end of his career. Its all about Media hype who took Ishant at a different Level where he does not belong to.. When Pak last time visited India, And Ishant got Debut, Waqar Said This guy ( Ishant ) must need to go to Gym to put meat in his Legs and make them strong enough to run fast. Only then he can sustain for long run career. Few Months Later India toured AUS and Ishant was so successful. Then Indian Media Started to give him Stardom. With so much of complements from Ravi, Bhogle, Sunny, And Shiva..

I was Loughing at them so as Waqar may be like this :))) ....

Can't you remember what Happened to Zaheer and Irfan??? When they came into this level for the first time, They were also bowling touching 150kpm And Irfan Were compared with Great Wasim at the AUS tour in 2004.

Now Questions to Indians Why your Bowlers Loose their Pace just when they finish 1st yr of their career??? Sorry I forgot to mention That '' Getting Injured three times a day just like eating foods - Asish Nehra. "

Aamer can swing the ball both ways. Ishant was always in essence a one trick pony, he has pace and bounce, thats all.

Oh i can just laugh here..before few days after asia cup final..almost everyone started saying that..amir does not know how to bowl inswingers and in 15 days everyone saying he can swing the ball both ways:)))

and if at all you have todays match then you will come to know ishant has learned to bowl otswingers as well....;-)

#1 Test team In the World Without winning a test series South Afria, Australia, England and Not even in New Zealand in last 20yrs.. LOL........:)))

Pak At least Won in England and New Zealand...

And I can guarantee you, Current Pakistan Batting line still capable to score 500+ in Indian soil because of your Pitch and A toothless bowling attack who can grab 20 wickets of its opposition..

So, Shame on a #1 team like you..
