What's new

Ishant Sharma's career renaissance since 2014!

This is a very valid point.
maybe srinath and kapil are our best bowlers. he just had no support.
However bumrah looks like a once in a generation player.
shami is like the cream of the crop as well.

The current Indian bowling line up hunts as a pack. There will be less 5fers now for individuals but everyone's bowling average is getting better considerably. The pacers in particular are reaping rewards.

In the past this collective effort phenomena elevated the status of many fast bowlers in Australia, West Indies, Pakistan, England, South Africa.

Finally India too is enjoying this little phase now.

No need to get ahead of ourselves but.

We live in the era where 3 pacers have gone oast 450 test wickets with two of them still active and looking set to go past 600 test wickets. Indian pace attack combined doesn't have test scalps right now.

That's what test cricket is all about. Legends are made over consistent performance of 10-12 years not a couple of seasons.

People are already comparing some of these guys to Kapil Dev who retired with a world record tally of test wickets.

bumrah shami will overtake him though. kapil bumrah shami is the all time india pace xi along with ash/jaddu

Just shut up.

Kapil has 434 test scalps. Bumrah to even be compared with Kapil would have to pick up like 259 wickets at 25

Your math is poor. Kapil averaged 29.64, while Bumrah is currently averaging 19.24. So even if Bumrah averages around 30 for the rest of his career (likely will be much less), he will end up with an average lower than Kapil's.

Second best Asian pacer in last 5 years after bumrah. Sharma has really transformed himself. Quality bowler.

What about Shami?

I rate Ishant over Shami. Especially against left handers Ishant is probably the best bowler right now who comes around the wicket and gets the ball to move away.

Shami has a tendency to take wickets in bursts, which is good but I personally feel Ishant has been bowling better.

Olivier rofl?philander rofl ngidi rofl

starc in tests lol?
ishant' s numbers are better than all these guys over the past 4 years including hazelwood who is trash away from SENA countries.

Olivier trundler is a big fraud. One decent outing vs pakistan. that's it.

He got smashed around by Lanka in his own country.

I don't normally just rely on stats but since your kind love them, here are some in the last 4 years -

Nice try though. Come again :salute

Ishant Sharma's turnaround happened in 2018 when no one picked him in the IPL so he went to England to play county cricket under coach Jason Gillespie.

he was good since 2014 but 2018 onwards he has become insane.

From NZ series 2014 till county 2018 he has 85 at 30.90.

Post county 2018 he has 58 at 19.24.

So the Indian posters have read my post and changed the boundaries again, it is no longer 4 years but now 2 :)

I will leave now before I dishearten any more.

Bumrah and Shami are the 2 best Asian pacers across all formats currently by a mile.

Ishant is in the next tier, along with Amir who are good but not great in one format.

This. Well-said. Ishant has improved tremendously after the county stint. No point in comparing him with bowlers, that is a waste of time, but the Indian team/management trusts his abilities and he has been delivering abundantly.

Nice try though. Come again :salute

so he averages 24 rofl and that alone is better than atleast 7 players on your list. ishant rocks.

Please, just accept you're wrong because you have been clearly humiliated here. A bowler who does not even rank in the top 11 of the 2 main criteria for bowlers, is somehow going to make a test world XI....if you are not educated enough XI = 11.

I understand, you have your propaganda to spread but you made fun of Olivier, yet he averaged better, you make fun of Abbas, averages better, you called Hazlewood trash, is better in all regards....would you like me to carry on or what?

Bumrah and Shami are the 2 best Asian pacers across all formats currently by a mile.

Ishant is in the next tier, along with Amir who are good but not great in one format.

Id agree, Bumrah and Shami are two of the best, across formats. No argument from me on that regard. Shami however is closer to the end of his career than the start. With someone like Shaheen developing and Hasan Ali hopefully getting his injury woes/lack of form looked at, they will overtake Shami in the next couple years.

?? shami is 29. and hasan and shaheen have nothing to show for in test cricket. more likely theyll go the way of gul, wahab, amir, junaid etc

yes he is 29, my point is he is closer to the end than the beginning of his career.

Shaheen is terrifically talented and is only 4 tests into his career, while in ODIs and T20s he is already a match winner and had the best figures of the WC. All at just 19. He has the potential to be the best of the lot.

YAWN!!! Have heard this umpteen times! For all you know, in the next Aus tour by Pak, he might not be in the team at all. And the chances of that are pretty high, going by Pakistani standards!

Hassan Ali is done and dusted.

Olivier got wrecked by Lanka. he played a grand total of like what 5 test matches and was already found out.

abbas is trash outside u.a.e. you know it. I know it. everyone knows it. He is ok when the conditions are favourable. that's it.

he is a trundler and I don't like trundlers unless they have skills. hazelwood has a poor record vs india and Pakistan away. 2 major Asian nations. So he isn't as good as he is perceived to be.

I don't care about the rankings. ishant averages 23-24 over the past 4 years and that's what matters. This isn't your scrawny ishant that averaged 43. You realize he now averages halve that now?
I never said he would make it into a world 11 but he is better than a lot of the players on that list above. I would take him over abbas and Olivier anyday. Only a fool wouldn't. His record isn't much different to hazelwood in recent times.

Hasan is done. once a trundler always a trundler. He is trash. Poor attitude.

shaheen yes absolutely. That's a golden child. He has ATG potential.

Shaheen has potential but so do Mavi/Nagarkoti though the latter 2 have been injury prone so far. Need to see them for a few years before we make too many calls.

I don't normally just rely on stats but since your kind love them, here are some in the last 4 years -

Nice try though. Come again :salute

Stiaan Van Zyl,Shan Masood are part timers and have only 6 & 2 wickets respectively
Morne Morkel has retired

If we exclude these 3
Bhuvi is ranked 7th,Shami 9th,Ishant 11th among Pacers in terms of average for pacers

Your research proves that we have the best pace attack in the world

Indians: Look at the stats and performance.

Pakistanis: Look at the talent, potential, athleticism, aesthetics etc etc etc etc

Look, you said Sharma is definitely World XI material, I said he is not and there are many who would leap frog him. I proved it. If you can counter the stats, you are welcome to do so.

So Ishant Sharma played his 70 odd tests before his best two years 2018-19 on performance?

He was averaging 35 plus after 70 odd tests, so where was the stats and performance being the utmost criteria of Indians then?

And didnt he start his test career based upon the potential he had?

Because they have teen bowling line up.

I'm few years they will all be big names.

I am expecting Shaheen to be a consistent performer for Pakistan. He has ingredients. HE just has to mix them up well. Not sure about Nasim Shah. Raw pace. we have seen before. Milne, Tait, Tino Best

Honestly he was one of the player Indians made fun of more than any other player. It is a pleasant surprise he turned it around. Not many Indian fans celebrated him as a great bowler. To his credit he has maintained his fitness. Also him joining in county cricket turned his career around just like county cricket turned Zaheer's career around.

Naseem at this point of time has more sense of lines and lengths than Tait, Milne and Tino had post 25 years of age. Naseem actually has the ability to make the ball talk but unfortunately its never easy for a bowler let alone teenage bowler with not much FC experience to start delivering straight away on a test debut away in Aus.

Think to note about Naseem is he understands the art of bowling which is rare even in experienced bowlers, which can be seen from the fact that how he tries to mix up his lengths to upset the footwork of the batsmen (Getting Australian opener out in Aus the way he did Warner with a short ball isnt common). He does have decent control as well over what he is doing as stated. He will start to execute better with more experience at international level.

I love how excited the Indians are getting over a couple of bowlers who aren't even considered great in this decade, let alone all time while Pakistan has at least 4 or 5 fast bowlers considered great all time.

Please stop the comparisons and stay in your line. Yes Sharma has improved a lot but he has also been playing for an immense amount if time but he is not World XI material and he is far from great. Shami is better than him across formats and still isn't a current World XI material but probably has more of a case....still is far from great.

Bumrah may be the best of the lot but has a long way to go and did not showcase much on tournament level in ODI cricket. His test performances are getting better and I'd pick him in T20s no questions asked. STill isn't great.

Reading what 99% of Indians post on here, you'd think unless every player they see perform in the last 6 month is agreed universally as THE BEST, you hate them. Get over it and stop being insecure.

? I meant he would be in top 11 bowlers in the world lol. not world 11 team.

I expect shaheen to be world class. Potential ATG. anything less would disappoint me. I don't have faith in the other ones. naseem not too sure on him.

5 fast Pakistani all time great fast bowlers? Really? Imran, Waqar, Wasim ..... then who? Shoaib Akhtar with 178 Test wickets? Or Fazal Mehmood with 139 Test wickets?

bumrah dint showcase much in odi tournament? are you sure about that? hr was eaily one of the best bowlers of the tournament. 2nd or 3rd omly because the team dint reach the final.

Test cricket is real cricket anyway and he is the best in the world right now. Yes better than cummins.

World XI is something that will never play any game lol Why should they be part of world XI. Rabada part of world XI got canned and left. As a team of bowlers they are really good. Results show.

As mighty a bowler Waqar was, he is not rated as an all time great bowler in most of the discussions. He was very good. But just a cut below.

I think your world 11 starts in Karachi and ends in Peshawar I guess -ESP wrt fast bowlers

Your world 15 will have 4 fast bowlers and an allrounder I guess with a world class spinner -
Shaheen shah
Abbas
Imran khan tall
Mohammed Amir ( called back from retirement )
Yasir and 16 year shah complete ur bowling attack I guess

Meanwhile most people would agree

Bumrah
Sharma/ Shami
Hazelwood / starc
Bolt Trent / shaheen
Archer / Anderson
Ashwin / jadeja / shakib

As potential world 15 bowlers

He was mediocre in the CT 2017 and yes he was good in the WC but far from great and outshone by teen Shaheen and Archer, Wood and Starc too.

Akhtar is a great all format fast bowler, so yes. The 5th could be Fazal, or there may not be a 5th, my point was that there are 4 TO 5.

Whatever you may think, that is 4 times as many as India :)

lol no he wasn't outshone by any of them barring starc. bumrah was bad in one game vs pakistan in champions trophy final and that was like his first tournament.
No one in their right mind would pick any of those bowlers over bumrah. He is the best bowler in the world in all formats.

Either way he also showed why he is number 1 in tests which is the only real format that matters.

Ishant is our best bowler in the last few years.

Respect for such a career turnaround.

The GREATEST PACE BOWLING legend.

Whattay guy!!!

If not for him, I shudder to think what would have happened lol.

Not at home.Apart from recent BD series,he hasn't done much

Umesh and Shami are our best pacers at home

He averages 27 at home since 2014. 15 matches 36 wickets. Very good which is what I said. Brilliant away and very good at home.

A case of overall stats not telling the true story. He has struggled v Aus,SA and feasted on Afg,BD and SL.

Ishant Sharma also left out of the Indian tour party for Australia - but BCCI will 'monitor the progress' of both players (Rohit & Ishant).

Reports incoming that Ishant might be fit for Adelaide.

What a silly stunt to play in the IPL. It's not like he's a good T20 bowler either.

Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy:
Ishant makes successful return as Delhi thrash Mumbai.

Ishant Sharma returned to competitive cricket and bagged 2 for 16 in Delhi's massive 76-run win over Mumbai.

For home test series,

Ishant
Bumrah
Siraj
Saini

4 fit names as of now. I think they should play two pacers and two spinners for home tests.

Wont Umesh be fit by then? We don’t need Bumrah to win in India and he needs some rest after this series.

If he is fit, all good. But if he isn't, then play Bumrah for first two tests and then rest him for remaining part of the tour inlcuding LOIs.
