Regarding Andre Russell:

MRI shows findings of Grade 2 hamstring tear. Islamabad United physio, Errol Alcott has suggested 4-8 weeks time frame for return. In light of that he will miss the rest of the tournament.

He suffered the injury during the first over of Islamabad United's game against Karachi Kings.

With Andre Russell now out, it will be interesting if they bring someone in and if they do who will they bring.

Russeel was struggling throughout really, he didn't look fully fit.

Could actually be a blessing for IU.

Vicky needs to grow a pair and play Zafar. Pitches are ideal for spin bowlers ATM.

Amad Butt or Zafar should come in. Only issue with Zafar is that there are already three bowlers who spin away from the right hander.

What is even Misbah's role in the team? Specialist captain?
He's the definition of a passenger in the team, not needed by IU. Rumman should captain the side once he come back.

He should go to QG, or maybe contact MS, because they love experienced players.

Policy of picking all-rounders is definitely working at the moment.

Who's agreed to travel to pakistan for the finals from our squad if we get through?

Duminy impressed with PSL standard, agrees to visit Pakistan for play-offs

Veteran batsman JP Duminy confirmed on Wednesday that he will be visiting Pakistan with Islamabad United for the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2018 playoffs and final.

The South African had earlier said there was only "a bit of chance" of him being on a Pakistan-bound flight but has since made up his mind, telling DawnNewsTV: "I will be coming to Pakistan with the Islamabad United squad for the play-offs and the final in Karachi."

Duminy also praised the standard of cricket on display in PSL 2018, linking the Pakistan cricket team's Champions Trophy triumph last year with the T20 league.

“It’s definitely a high standard of cricket," he said. "You have seen the matches, the way they end, I've thoroughly enjoyed the standard.

"It also shows in the success that Pakistan international team had last year. You can see it through the youth that is coming through within this tournament and it is exciting to see, especially for Pakistan."

Like most other internationals, Duminy doesn't play every T20 league under the sun. Other than the PSL, the only other 20-over league he takes part in being the Indian Premier League. While the nascent PSL has some way to go before it can compete with the much more established IPL brand, Duminy says the Pakistan Cricket Board product can certainly be compared favourably with other leagues.

“I have only played in the IPL," he said. "I haven’t played any other leagues around the world so it’s difficult to judge it (the PSL) but so far my experience is that the PSL is one of the better leagues in terms of standard of cricket and organisation around it."

At United, Duminy gets to share the dressing room with Islamabad's super experienced captain Misbah-ul-Haq, whose unique brand of captaincy has impressed the Cape Town native.

"He is a great leader and we definitely missed him in the first few games that he missed because of his injury," said Duminy. "He is the type of guy who leads from the front.

“Misbah is not a man of many words but he is the one who leads by example and not only us but everybody in our team follows that example."

Great to hear.

Misbah at PSL 3:

Unfit
Unfit
22 (25)
4 (10)
Did Not Bat
12* (18)
Did Not Bat
Did Not Bat
Did Not Bat

Apparently Shadab is not 100%, he shouldn't be picked if true and at the very least shouldn't be playing these dead rubbers. Great win once again, hopefully we can keep the momentum going into the play off stage.

Misbah should give his spot to Sahibzada or Zafar and should just come as a substitute fielder when IU are bowling.

Just dominating now..I hear ronchi and JP aren't coming to Pakistan but I think it won't matter so much to us..the other teams will be hit harder..

Lots and lots and lots of all-rounders
WK who is in great form and can bat at the top of the order
Batting depth
Variety in bowling
Bench strength
Wicket-taking bowlers
Pakistani players performing
Experienced captain
Wise heads in the coaching department

6 wins in a row, only the second time it's been done in PSL.

The first time is was done was...Islamabad United

He has been good as captain - especially now that he is giving even more chances to the youngsta beauties. This should be his last season though.

Strong squad.

Having very capable local talents is key to making a good domestic side. ISLU has that in Ashraf, Talat and Shadab. These are all international quality players and will all likely be in the international t20 side together very soon.

Another win. Relaying on a Pakistan core as well. Expecting us to dominate the PSL for years to come .

What a classy innings that was by Duminy yesterday. Pure timing, touch and elegance. He has mostly been a costly buy for most the franchises in league cricket, especially in the IPL, due to the issue with his strike-rate and also strike rotation, but it´s so pleasing to see that Islamabad are the ones to have decoded him. The move to bat him as an opener is paying off well and is a smart one because the advantage of having less boundary-riders in the powerplay allows his stroke-play to flourish and to bring about boundaries as a result - as opposed to single and doubles, which would usually be the case with Duminy in the middle overs.

Well done Dean Jones, Misbah and company!

The best thing is amount of All-rounders in this team, there are hardly any specialist in the team
While for National team Pakistan are scared to select more than one allrounder.

Samit
Faheem
Amad
Hussain
Shadab
Duminy

National team is usually full of all rounders. Imad, hafeez, Shadab, Nawaz, faheem, Yamin you could even add Shoaib Malik to that list.

There are too many in my opinion.

Where's my ISLU squad?

:salute

They were the true kings, they ARE the true kings. Simply unstoppable.

Will become the champions second time.

Will Misbah play in the final? I hear he got a fractured hand so probably wont?

Need Farhan playing in the final.

Wow, wow, just wow! What a blinder that was by Ronchi! He´s a criminal who should be jailed for the onslaught. A pity that he couldn´t get his extremely well-deserved century. Samit Patel tried his best to get him back on strike, but it just wasn´t meant to be. Innings of the tournament, easily. What timing and power, what a brave batsman!

I´m hugely impressed by Sahibzada Farhan´s hitting ability. What a six that was down the ground! So heartening to see Pakistan unearth hitters like him, Hussain Talat and Asif Ali. Here´s a heartfelt prayer that I see them playing for Pakistan some day. If they get their act right, these three batsmen will be the guys to look out for in the team.

Not to forget of course that almost all the upcoming talent is from the Islamabad team. Well done to them!

Hales is back in England it seems....

https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/other-sport/nottinghamshire-coach-peter-moores-meet-1363774

Peter Moores will meet with Alex Hales later this week to devise his training schedule with Nottinghamshire.

Hales signed a new contract last month which will see him play white-ball cricket only for Notts, meaning he will not be available until they play Lancashire on May 17.

The England batsman has just returned from playing in the Pakistan Super League after deciding against travelling to the finals with Islamabad United.

He will train with Notts before playing in the Royal London One Day Cup game at Old Trafford, but he will sit down with Moores to decide when that will take place, to ensure he is well placed to deliver for the Outlaws.

“Alex will train with us. He’s just back from the PSL so I’ll be sitting down with him later this week to see where he’s at,“ he said.

“There’s no white ball cricket for a while so there’s no need for him to train straight away beyond having to maintain his fitness.

“We’ll talk about the right approach. It’s all a new area with him being in this new role.

“We have to make sure we get the balance right for Alex and for the club to make sure he’s ready to go when we need him.”

Samit Patel and Riki Wessels will link up with the squad next week at the latest after their own involvement in the PSL ends. Both had agreed to play in the finals despite other players deciding not to over security concerns.

Moores feels playing in the competition will have benefited both all-rounder Patel and batsman Wessels.

“We decided to let them go. It’s a great chance for them to play in different atmospheres against different players,” he said.

“It’s part of modern cricket. You can fight it or move with it so we’re trying to give people chances.

“They’ll be back straight after their involvement in the tournament. They’ll be back early next week at the latest.”

Playing PSL final in Karachi a big occasion: Duminy

KARACHI - Islamabad United skipper JP Duminy said that playing the final of Pakistan Super League in Karachi was a big occasion for the entire team.

“A lot of work has been done behind the scene and we have been brought here very safely,” said Duminy when asked about the security arrangements in Karachi which hosts a major cricket match after a gap of 9 years.

“We are very grateful for the hard work going on behind the scene. Yes, we are excited about tomorrow. No doubt, that’s a big occasion for all of us,” he said. The South African cricketer said that unprecedented security arrangements made in Karachi would not play on their mind during the match. “Not at all, it will not play on my mind. Yes, it’s a unique occasion. At the end of the day, it’s about the performance we give on the ground,” Duminy added. “There are a lot of youngsters in our team who have not played a final before. So exciting time ahead.” United skipper Duminy said that the team will try to dismiss Akmal at the early stage of the game.

The South African player reiterated that the entire team is excited to play Pakistan Super League final in Karachi. “We are about to start our training session. The team that adapts quickest will give itself an edge,” Duminy said.

How many players can a team retain each year?

IU had the best young players in Pakistan playing for them and they should do everything they can to retain all of them.

No problem at all - any U23 player can be picked without being "emerged". Or other way, you can pay a U23 player more than the lowest grade for his service instead of serving Misbah a Diamond contract for being "injured".

- Nazir (WK), Hasnain & a new kid as emerging

- Farhan, Asif, Talat as local batsman, retain JP, Ronchi, and may be one more foreign batsman who wants to tour PAK - 6 batsmen

- Amad, Fahim, Shadab, Patel as all-rounder, may be add one foreigner who is willing to travel - 5 all-rounders

- Gohar, Sami, Raees + couple more bowlers, one foreigner. Best is to replace Misbah with local boy Amir in Diamond, and keep Finn/Badree (whoever wishes to tour PAK) - 5 bowlers

- Hasan, one more batsman as WK-Batsman, may be foreigner - 2 WK

That's 18 players, and 3 emerging with 6 foreigners - JP, Ronchi, Patel are Internationally inactive for most part, so they should be available for entire length. One more foreigner as all-rounder (Russell), and one more foreigner as bowler (Finn/Badree) and Billings (he might not tour PAK) or Walton as WK-Batsman.

Amir Captain.

Where is that "Emerging" curse coming to spoil the party - unless you want to serve pension to Misbah & Iftekhar?

MMHS why do you always think Amir should be captain?

Is Shaheen shah not eligible for emerging category because he will be representing Pak national team?
Which emerging players of this year are ineligible for emerging category next year MMHS

Is Shaheen shah not eligible for emerging category because he will be representing Pak national team?

No idea - as far I know, anyone U23 can be forced to an emerging category for multiple times. It's "forced", because you are happy to pick the player for 2nd time, but at the lowest slab - that's $25K. It means, he is good enough to play for your XI (one fixed spot in XI, therefore you have to play one emerging), but you are not willing to increase his wage.

Emerging quota is a rubbish idea - allowing multiple times emerging (that's one player can be picked more than once) is a deliberate corruption on top of bull *****; to protect some others' interest.

You asked for Shaheen - he has proved to be good enough to get at least a Silver contract (should be Gold at least - considering what Misbah, Umar and few others are enjoying). If he wasn't good enough - drop him entirely and try another emerging kid.

ISLAMABAD: Revival of international cricket on the home ground has defeated the menace of terrorism, said President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday.

The president gave credit to the government and the management of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for successfully organising final matches of the third Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket tournament in the country, followed by a T-20 series against the West Indies in Karachi.

“Credit goes to the PSL team for reviving international cricket in Pakistan. By holding this mega event in the country, terrorism has been defeated,” he said while talking to the winners of this year’s PSL tournament, Islamabad United.

“The massive turnout for the matches has sent a message to the world — Pakistan is a peaceful and sports-loving nation,” he added.

The PSL winners and the team’s owner, Syed Ali Raza Naqvi, called on Mr Hussain at the presidency and the latter during the meeting said that promoting sports in the country would strengthen the economy and create employment.

PSL champs call on Mamnoon

He discussed how sportsman spirit and tolerance were of the utmost importance in all games.

The president lauded the performance of some of the young players and expressed the hope that they would excel further.

“We have huge expectations from young players like Shadab Khan, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and Sahibzada Farhan,” he said.

The president also highlighted one of the consistent problems faced by players — poor fitness in the national cricket team. He stressed that the sportsmen needed to focus on their fitness and health.

He advised young players to follow in the footsteps of team caption Misbahul Haq and Younas Khan in order to win laurels for the country.

Islamabad United’s captain and the team management thanked the president and expressed their resolve to continue to serve the nation to best of their capabilities.

After a successful tour by the West Indies, the country’s cricket authorities are hopeful that they will be able to host a full international cricket series in 2020.

The three-match series against the World Twenty20 champions was held in Karachi and was accompanied by a wave of optimism. Enthusiastic fans braved heavy security checks to express their gratitude to the West Indies cricket team for the visit.

Last month, Karachi also hosted the PSL final, the biggest cricket event in the city since a 2009 attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team in Lahore that drove international cricket out of the country.

Following the attack, international cricket teams were reluctant to play in Pakistan due to security concerns and the suspension of international cricket on the home front had compelled the PCB to host its international fixtures in the UAE. However, with the security situation dramatically improving over the last three years, the board has been taking “gradual steps” to bring cricket back home.
