Define Muslims ? What makes one a muslim ? Maybe they are moderate and practice during Ramadan and other special eid days ? How do you know that they don't practice it away from your eyes ?

Only Allah knows if I am a good Muslim, and being human means I have a propensity to make mistakes and commit sins but at least I try to do the basics. From my experience, I have yet to meet a single Iranian and I mean a single Iranian who I would identify with. I may have got the wrong end of the stick but I have yet to meet anyone else whose experience of Iranians isn't the same.

How four Olympians are fighting Islamophobia
The Olympics in Rio may have started off with fears of a terror attack, but these were soon replaced by talk of the prowess of Muslim athletes who are breaking stereotypes.
Although many Muslim athletes from around the world competed in the Games, here we highlight the stories of four exceptional Muslim Olympians.
Mo Farah
Britain’s Mo Farah overcame the shock of a mid-race fall on Saturday to take a second straight Olympic 10,000m title and extend his remarkable record at global championships.
Farah tumbled in the 10th lap after being clipped by American training partner Galen Rupp. But he brilliantly recovered to accumulate a second 10,000m title to add to the 5,000m gold he also won in London four years ago.
“When I went down, I thought, ‘Oh my God, that is it’. I just got up and wanted to stick with the guys and stay strong,” said Farah. “It’s never easy but everyone knows what I can do.”
After he won the race, Farah bowed down in prayer. For him, prayer is an integral part of his success. “I normally pray before a race,” Farah said. “I read du’aa [Islamic prayers or invocations] think about how hard I’ve worked and just go for it.”
Sara Ahmed
Egyptian weightlifter Sara Ahmed said she had blazed a trail for women athletes after becoming the first female from her country to stand on the Olympic podium with weightlifting bronze at Rio.
Ahmed, wearing a sports hijab, lifted 255 kg in the women’s 69kg weightlifting competition to finish third behind Chinese gold medallist Xiang Yanmei and Kazakhstan’s Zhazira Zhapparkul, who claimed silver.
The 18-year-old’s bronze was Egypt’s first weightlifting medal since 1948. It was also the first awarded to a woman from the Arab country at an Olympics in any sport, however, another was due to be awarded retrospectively.
Ahmed, who took up weightlifting aged 11, said she expected her historic appearance on the Olympic podium would help pave the way for other aspiring female athletes in Egypt. In 2011 the International Weightlifting Federation approved the wearing of full-body unitards, benefiting Muslim women.
Ibtihaj Muhammad
Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad came to the Rio Games determined to show the world that Muslim-American women could compete in elite sports.

The 30-year-old from New Jersey, the first US Olympian to wear ahijab during competition, came away with a bronze medal in the women’s team saber event.
Muhammad, who runs her own fashion shop which specialises in women’s clothing, has in recent years been involved in a US government-backed programme to empower women and girls through sport.
In response to Donald Trump’s proposed ban Muslim immigrants to the US, Muhammad had responded, “I’m African American. I don’t have another home to go to. My family was born here. I was born here. I’ve grown up in [New] Jersey. All my family’s from Jersey. It’s like, well, where do we go?”
Her teammate Wozniak, who had dyed her hair purple, said, “This is sport. It doesn’t matter what hair color you have, what religion you are. The point is to go out there and be the best athlete you can be, and I think we’re the best explanation of what America is, a mix of so many different cultures and races and everything all together.”
Kariman Abuljadayel
Saudi Arabia sprinter Kariman Abuljadayel made history as she became the first woman from the Kingdom to compete in the 100m sprint.
Wearing hijab in a searing heat of Rio de Janeiro, the 22-year-old failed to qualify for the final after finishing seventh, but won the respect of the fans from all over the world.
She became the third female athlete from the Kingdom and second racer after Sarah Attar to compete in the Olympic games.
In the 2012 London Olympics, Attar also wore hijab as she competed in the 800m marathon race.
Abuljadayel was not the only woman competing in 100meter sprint wearing hijab, as Afghanistan’s Kamia Yousuf also took part in the race, and finished on the last place.

I came here to Condemn if any untodo incidence took place with muslims.

If anything the Olympics is seen to be inclusive as these Muslims are happily taking part.
By participating in Olympics and telling the Public that they have 2 legs, 2 hands, 1 head and they look like humans too even though they are Muslims.
Also, these women are fighting the gender bias in Muslim families.

I know. But they are showing to the world what a Muslim women can do if given a chance.
Competing in Sports and showing their talent can spread positivity among people who are scared of Muslims.

A weird world we live in, where sporting ability is being judged on appearance.
In anycase in the future all sprinters will be fully clothed, with advanced materials that are super smooth and have less drag than human skin/hair.

Who is imposing limitations on the Muslim woman-other than other Muslims. They make Muslims look like idiots. The hijab in Saudi had a role in ancient times . It protected face and hair against sand and heat. Wearing the same ridiculous costume in todays sporting world makes us look like fools. Iam not saying that Muslims should wear skimpy outfits but blindly copying old Arabic dress when participating in modern sport is stupid. Not helping with Islamophobia.All it tells is that Muslims refuse to use common sense.

How are they fighting Islamophobia? Some of my fellow Muslims need to stop acting like the victims as always and realise that most of the non Muslims are very open minded and not discriminatory at all. No one cares that some athlete participating in the Olympics is a Muslim.

And Majlinda Kelmendi won the first ever Gold for Kosovo. Don't know if she is practising Islam.

Agreed, at least in the Olympics they should put a lid on it. The format is Country v Country, not Religion v Religion which no other religion except this one fusses about so much.
When the POTUS of the most powerful nation goes on bigotry and says "what Muslms sports hero"?
When Muslims are put under scrutiny every second in any field.
When bigotry and racism is rampant against Muslims then it is every Muslim responsibility to represent and talk about bigotry and racism in every forum and major event in the world.
In the past everyone used olympics to create awareness against racism, bigotry, slavery, injustice and crime. One example would be Tommie Smith and John Carlos in 1968 olympics.

Religion is an Indivisuals Preference.
If She takes off Hijab it would be problem for few. If she wears Hijab it would be problem for few.
Ultimately if She is following a certain religion than She has to be answerable to Her God so she will have to do what Her religion asks her to do in her view.
As far as Sports is concerned the Sporting Body has to decide what is allowed and what is not allowed.
This debate will never end.
As far as individuals are concerned if you feel so than if your daughter in future opts for these sports than you can advice her wrt Costumes and She can follow that.
For Some it is Common sense for some it is Efficacy of Results and for some it is Religion first. So everyone sees this from his her own angle.

I don't deny what you are saying.. But I won't understand and won't ever agree with choosing something based on what my religion says if it goes against my basic common sense... I am not saying what she wore was WRONG in anyways it's totally her choice to wear what she wants.. But wouldn't it have been more convenient to not wear a hijab in heat in a racing event? Well at the end of the day to each his own if they prefer wearing that then that's their choice but I would not be able to understand why they make such choices.. Same ways you might not understand why I would make some choices..

I respect your Opinion.
If somebody feels that his religion is going against Common Sense than He should change his Religion and adopt a religion which according to him her does not Go Against Common Sense.
This is my Theory.
A Religion for Me is Nothing if it cannot stand Laws of Nature, Cannot Provide Evidence, Is Based on Fairytales and Mystery World and Goes against Common Sense.
But Common Sense will be Relative in many Religious matters.
This is why I say that God sent 1 religion only and it is Us humans who divided into multiple religions. If we had 1 religion whatever that would have been than in religious matters our Common Sense would have been the Same aswell.
Religion does affect your thinking there is no doubt about it. Nobody can deny it. Whether you are from any division. This is why massive difference in opinion exist in religious matters.
Now what is the remedy for the Lady advice that ?
No religion can stand science scrutiny. No Religion can provide evidence for its claims. Even if it claims something, it has been debunked many times before.
Religion is a belief system. Something that should be personal and that's about it.

Islamophobia is holding back UK Muslims in the workplace, study finds
Muslim men and women are being held back in the workplace by widespread Islamophobia, racism and discrimination, according to a study which finds that Muslim adults are far less likely to be in full-time work.
Research for the government’s social mobility watchdog, shared exclusively with the Guardian, found a strong work ethic and high resilience among Muslims that resulted in impressive results in education.
However, that was not translated into the workplace, with only 6% of Muslims breaking through into professional jobs, compared with 10% of the overall population in England and Wales.
The study found 19.8% of Muslims aged 16-to-74 were in full-time employment, compared with 34.9% of the overall population.
The research also found evidence of women being encouraged by their communities to focus on marriage and motherhood rather than gaining employment. Overall, 18% of Muslim women aged 16 to 74 were recorded as “looking after home and family”, compared with 6% of the overall female population.
Academics cited a number of barriers to success, including:
Students face stereotyping and low expectations from teachers and a lack of Muslim staff or other role models in the classroom.
Minority ethnic-sounding names reduce the likelihood of people being offered an interview.
Young Muslims routinely fear becoming targets of bullying and harassment and feel forced to work “10 times as hard” as their white counterparts to get on.
Women wearing headscarfs face particular discrimination once entering the workplace.
Alan Milburn, the former cabinet minister who now heads the government-sponsored Social Mobility Commission, said the research painted a disturbing picture.
“The British social mobility promise is that hard work will be rewarded. Unfortunately, for many young Muslims in Britain today this promise is being broken,” he said.
Calling for action by the government, communities, educators and employers, Milburn said: “Young Muslims themselves identify cultural barriers in their communities and discrimination in the education system and labour market as some of the principal obstacles that stand in their way. Young Muslim women face a specific challenge to maintain their identity while seeking to succeed in modern Britain.”
Prof Jacqueline Stevenson, of Sheffield Hallam University, which led the research, said: “Muslims are being excluded, discriminated against or failed at all stages of their transition from education to employment. Taken together, these contributory factors have profound implications for social mobility.”
Stevenson told the Guardian that the research highlighted routine examples of Muslim men and women failing to secure jobs that were commensurate with their skills and qualifications.
The research involved a series of in-depth focus groups across the country through which young Muslims shared their experiences. One woman in Liverpool said her father had suggested “changing her name to help get a job.
A female respondent in High Wycombe referred to hearing comments such as “he looked very Muslim” or “look at her, she’s got a scarf on”. Another said they felt that when white children went to school they might fear getting bullied but the thought would occur to all ethnic-minority children.
Farhana Ghaffar, a 25-year-old Muslim woman who acted as a researcher for the study, said she was “incredibly shocked” by the findings. “It ranged from assumptions that they were forced to wear the headscarf to jokes and casual comments in workplace about Muslims. Or every time there was a terror attack there was a feeling of a need to apologise and explain,” she said.
Ghaffar talked of difficulties within the workplace, including a culture of drinking alcohol that Muslims were unable to participate in.

Muslim men and women are being held back in the workplace by widespread Islamophobia, racism and discrimination, according to a study which finds that Muslim adults are far less likely to be in full-time work.
Research for the government’s social mobility watchdog, shared exclusively with the Guardian, found a strong work ethic and high resilience among Muslims that resulted in impressive results in education.
However, that was not translated into the workplace, with only 6% of Muslims breaking through into professional jobs, compared with 10% of the overall population in England and Wales.
The study found 19.8% of Muslims aged 16-to-74 were in full-time employment, compared with 34.9% of the overall population.
The research also found evidence of women being encouraged by their communities to focus on marriage and motherhood rather than gaining employment. Overall, 18% of Muslim women aged 16 to 74 were recorded as “looking after home and family”, compared with 6% of the overall female population.
Academics cited a number of barriers to success, including:
Students face stereotyping and low expectations from teachers and a lack of Muslim staff or other role models in the classroom.
Minority ethnic-sounding names reduce the likelihood of people being offered an interview.
Young Muslims routinely fear becoming targets of bullying and harassment and feel forced to work “10 times as hard” as their white counterparts to get on.
Women wearing headscarfs face particular discrimination once entering the workplace.
Alan Milburn, the former cabinet minister who now heads the government-sponsored Social Mobility Commission, said the research painted a disturbing picture.
“The British social mobility promise is that hard work will be rewarded. Unfortunately, for many young Muslims in Britain today this promise is being broken,” he said.
Calling for action by the government, communities, educators and employers, Milburn said: “Young Muslims themselves identify cultural barriers in their communities and discrimination in the education system and labour market as some of the principal obstacles that stand in their way. Young Muslim women face a specific challenge to maintain their identity while seeking to succeed in modern Britain.”
Prof Jacqueline Stevenson, of Sheffield Hallam University, which led the research, said: “Muslims are being excluded, discriminated against or failed at all stages of their transition from education to employment. Taken together, these contributory factors have profound implications for social mobility.”
Stevenson told the Guardian that the research highlighted routine examples of Muslim men and women failing to secure jobs that were commensurate with their skills and qualifications.
The research involved a series of in-depth focus groups across the country through which young Muslims shared their experiences. One woman in Liverpool said her father had suggested “changing her name to help get a job.
A female respondent in High Wycombe referred to hearing comments such as “he looked very Muslim” or “look at her, she’s got a scarf on”. Another said they felt that when white children went to school they might fear getting bullied but the thought would occur to all ethnic-minority children.
Farhana Ghaffar, a 25-year-old Muslim woman who acted as a researcher for the study, said she was “incredibly shocked” by the findings. “It ranged from assumptions that they were forced to wear the headscarf to jokes and casual comments in workplace about Muslims. Or every time there was a terror attack there was a feeling of a need to apologise and explain,” she said.
Ghaffar talked of difficulties within the workplace, including a culture of drinking alcohol that Muslims were unable to participate in.

There's no problem a little alcohol in a social setting can't solve. Got a project you want to initiate? A colleague you want to swap? A green flag you've been waiting for? A splash of Grey Goose is all you need!

What nonsense. A large issue, based on my experience and the position I hold with my present employer, is the baggage some applicants from ethnic backgrounds bring with them to the workplace - and that is the problem.
Any employer has one ask - to get the job done by (ideally) having the right people for the job at hand. When interviewees are asked "how would you go about delivering against x" and you are met with 'god willing' frequently as part of the response, it isn't going to go down well. Nothing to do with religion, but you are not demonstrating critical thinking.
Or if one turns up to an interview wearing a full veil for a role that depends on people interaction, it is an obvious barrier to that role. Both cases I have personally encountered as part of the recruitment process and never has religion itself been the defining factor but rather the individuals choice to make it that way.
This sense of entitlement, that the workplace must accommodate me, is the root cause of the problem. And if any employer has to choose between people the should always pick the one that they beleive will do best and if, as in many roles, ones faith, dress code act as a barrier - then don't be surprised if you don't get through.

A part of me thinks the researchers conducting these studies have already determined the outcome. They then match the data to get the expected results. This researcher will never make it to the Guardian if she concluded Islamophobia did not exist in the workplace, but would only get ripped on by members of the community.

I think there is going to be some issue with a Muslim name, surveys and dummy applications have already shown there is discrimination at that level, understandable to some extent with the media furore since 9/11.
After that I think it just comes down to appearance. If you look and dress like a normal westerner, then I don't think there will be any problem, employers just want the best person for the job, and Muslims are pretty hard working for the most part.
I think someone who acts and dresses like they are from Saudi Arabia will probably get overlooked at many firms. But that would be the case if they were dressed like a Sikh or a Buddhist as well in my view. I'm not sure the religion matters as much as looking like you are relevant and part of British society.

Syrian Activist and Her Daughter Fatally Stabbed in Turkey
ISTANBUL — A Syrian activist and her daughter, a journalist, have been found murdered in their apartment in Istanbul, family and friends reported on social media Friday.
The activist, Orouba Barakat, 60, and her daughter, Halla Barakat, 22, were discovered Thursday night in Uskudar, on the Asian side of the city. The news was first announced on social media by Shaza Barakat, the elder Ms. Barakat’s sister. The two women had been stabbed to death, the Turkish news agency Anadalou reported, quoting a police official.
The Barakats came from a large family known for its long opposition to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria and his predecessor and father, Hafez al-Assad. The two women were both active in the Syrian refugee community in Turkey.
The elder Ms. Barakat was a member of the opposition Syrian National Council, now known as the Syrian National Coalition, but she had also criticized some members of the opposition. Halla Barakat was an editor for Orient TV, which covers events in the Middle East, and had also worked for the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation.
While there was no official confirmation of the circumstances of the deaths, friends and relatives said the Assad government was to blame.

The two women “were vocal activists in the Syrian revolution, speaking truth to power, and raising awareness about the atrocities committed by the Assad regime,” another relative, Suzanne Barakat, wrote on Facebook.
In a statement, the Syrian National Coalition said, “The hand of terrorism and tyranny is the prime suspect in this heinous crime of assassination.”
Social media posts on pro-government sites contained hateful comments about the Barakats.
But the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet published details that indicated a similarity to killings committed by the Islamic State. The women’s throats had been cut, and they had received a threat on social media 10 days earlier from someone speaking in a Tunisian dialect, the newspaper reported.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for four previous killings of Syrian journalists in Turkey. A fifth has survived two attacks.
The elder Ms. Barakat had received threats in the days before her killing but had disregarded them, her brother, Maen Barakat, 56, said in a telephone interview.
“Since threats by the regime have become a common thing, she didn’t pay much attention to them,” Mr. Barakat said.
“No items were stolen from the apartment, which suggests that the crime was committed only to kill Orouba and Halla,” he added.
His sister was a born activist, he said. “She dedicated her life to give voice to the voiceless, until the Syrian regime exiled her in the ’80s,” he said. “But still she continued to defend her rights and the rights of others.”
She set up a media and advertising business in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, and after the Syrian uprising moved to Istanbul.
“She came to Turkey to be closer to her country, hoping that once the war ends she would be able to return to her homeland,” Mr. Barakat said. “Halla joined her mom in her fight against the Syrian regime, and became a loud voice in defending the rights of Syrians and documenting the crimes against them.”
Halla Barakat “was beautiful and lovely, smart and ambitious, and so kindhearted,” said Jamal Mano, a Syrian journalist who worked for 10 months with her in Istanbul.
A Syrian refugee in Germany, Nour Sheikh Ibrahim, wept as he remembered the kindness the elder Ms. Barkat had shown him when he defected from the Syrian Army and escaped to Turkey.
“She was everything in my life, she was like my aunt,” Mr. Ibrahim said when reached by telephone. “She helped me a lot.”
Jobless and penniless, he had appealed to Ms. Barakat for help and when she opened a sewing factory she offered him a job. “She used to help refugees, and the camps,” he said. “She was very active. She helped lot of Syrians with money, even those who didn’t deserve it.” Later in Istanbul she gave him a place to stay.
They remained in touch, talking every few days, and he said Ms. Barakat had become depressed recently. “In the past few weeks Orouba was feeling so down,” he said. “I asked her to leave Turkey but she said she couldn’t.” She lacked a valid passport, he added.
“I remember she used to receive a lot of threats on her phone,” Mr. Ibrahim said.
Suzanne Barakat also recalled how, in a tragic twist of fate, three members of the extended family — a cousin, Deah Barakat, and his wife and her sister, who were studying in the United States — were shot dead in Chapel Hill, N.C., in 2015 in a case that authorities investigated as a possible hate crime.
“Numbness,” she said on Facebook, describing her feelings about the family’s latest deaths. “Confusion. Shock. Disbelief. I can’t think straight.”

Man jailed for hitting Muslim woman in the face with bacon
A man who abused two Muslim women before striking one of them in the face with a packet of bacon has been jailed.
Alex Chivers made abusive comments to a Muslim teen, who was walking down a road in Enfield, north London, with her mother on 8 June.
After calling her “Isil ****” and shouting “you deserve this”, he then struck her in the face with an open packet of bacon.
“The victim was not injured, but was very distressed,” Scotland Yard said in a statement.
Chivers, of nearby Waltham Cross, was arrested six days later and charged with one count of racially or religiously aggravated common assault and one count of causing racially or religiously aggravated alarm or distress.
After pleading guilty at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, he was sentenced to 26 weeks’ imprisonment for the assault and 12 weeks’ imprisonment for a public order offence – to run concurrently.
Calling the incident “truly shocking”, DC James Payne from Enfield Community Safety Unit, said other people were present at the time of the assault, “including an associate of Chivers’ who filmed the incident”.
He added that enquiries were ongoing to try to identify them.
London’s Metropolitan Police said that hate crimes of this type remain “largely under reported”, adding that it “stands together with policing partners, colleagues and groups to investigate all hate crime allegations, support victims and their families, and bring perpetrators to justice”.
Police figures released in March, showed a considerable rise in hate-related crime in London over the previous year.
The number of victims of religious and racist hate crime had risen by almost 20 per cent, from 14,004 to 16,618, and victims of faith hate have seen an 18 per cent increase from 1,699 to 2,000.
Homophobic incidents had also increased by 12 per cent, from 1,816 to 2,033, while the number of disability hate victims increased by 216 per cent in the last year alone, up from 251 in 2015/16 to 794 in 2016/17.
In February, it was revealed that the number of hate crimes recorded by regional police forces rose by up to 100 per cent in the months following the Brexit vote.

Islamophobia is the result of the media. Be it Paper, TV, Social etc. It’s one thing to report terrorist incidences, but quite another when reporting petty news simply because a Muslim is involved. For example, Muslim student refuses to eat hot cross bun because he doesn’t believe in Christianity. It doesn’t even stop here. If say there is a fight on the London Tube caught on camera, and involves a Muslim, the head line will read something along the lines of “Muslim caught in row on Tube”. Any other faith or creed, then head line will simply read “Man caught in row on tube”.
I’m sure we all remember the be-heading videos reported by the media, well guess what, the media was doing exactly what ISIS wanted, to propagate their message. The media realised this, and soon after stopped showing such videos. Of course, too late.
The media is brewing Islamophobia, and while Islamophobia is on the rise, it is nothing compared to Anti-Semitism. If one criticises the policies of Israel, one is dubbed an anti-Semite. That’s how bad it is. Matters were made worse when the Balfour Declaration was released to the public, and it’s getting worse day by day. But notice how Anti-Semitism is more of a closet thing, compared to a more public perception of Islamophobia. How much news do you read on Jews/Israel compared to Muslims? Very little, yet Anti-Semitism is much higher. When Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital on Israel, the social media onslaught was brutal – magnitudes higher when comparing to a story involving Islam.
If the media concentrated on reporting actual and factual news, the perception of Islam wouldn’t be anywhere near as bad as it is now. It’s as if the media go searching for any news relating to Islam/Muslims, not matter how weak or irrelevant to society. The media preys on the fears of society – the power of nightmares. I read Muslims should condemn ISIS? Well they do, it just doesn't get reported in mainstream Media. The status of quo of fear must be preserved.
However, if you notice now the media narrative is changing to Russia. Trump won the Election? Blame it on the Russians. Brexit? Blame it on the Russians. Fake news? Blame it on the Russians. My car didn’t start this morning? Yup you guessed it, blame it on the Russians.

This is because Muslims like to be identified as Muslims. For most, they prefer Islam as an identity over their country, even. Even here, if something were to happen in Myanmar, all Muslims are up in arms. The fact that there are a billion Muslims is also constantly brought up.
That's why it's easy to generalize the entire religion, whereas "Christian/Hindu/Buddhist caught in row on Tube" would be plain irrelevant, because folks from those religions are fairly agnostic, more than Muslims anyway.

Many people identify themselves by their faith in the UK, not just Muslims [Jews and Anglo Christians as examples] When they commit crime, their faith is not mentioned. So the point of how one identifies themselves is moot because the media does a sterling job.
Plus, this is a a relatively new phenomenon in the media, identifying someone through their faith, didn’t happen before 9/11, even if Muslims identify themselves as Muslims.
Of course there is the classic USA media response. If a shooter is white, then the shooter has mental problems. If the shooter is black, the shooter has drug problems and was involved in crime. If the shooter is a Muslim, then it’s Islamic terror on American soil.

Zaynab Hussein was hit by Paul Moore's car in Leicester, moments before he tried to drive at a Somali girl, 12, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

The attack, on 20 September last year, was "purely because of the colour of her skin" and her "perceived Islamic faith", Mr Straw said.
"It is no coincidence, we say, that there had been a bomb at Parsons Green Tube station in London, said to have been carried out by sympathisers of Islamic State," he told the court.
'Blood from head'
Mr Moore also denies attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving and driving above the legal alcohol limit.
He told friends in the car he wanted to run someone over and laughed after hitting Ms Hussein, the jury heard.
In a statement to police, Ms Hussein described how she was thrown into the wall of a nearby house by the impact of the crash.
"When I hit the floor, I saw blood coming from my forehead," the court heard.
"I remember shouting for help but nobody was around, I tried to get up, but could not. I didn't have any feeling in my right arm and I thought it might have been broken.
Specialist treatment
"So, I tried to reach for my mobile with my left hand, but could not find any feeling in my left arm."
Ms Hussein was taken to hospital with severe fractures to her pelvis, spine and breaks to her limbs.
After months of specialist treatment, she remains confined to bed.
The jury was told, after targeting Ms Hussein Mr Moore went on to try to hit the Somali girl on her way to school, in nearby Butterwick Drive.
In that instance he only clipped her side, sending her school bag flying.
The trial continues.

A 70-year-old man allegedly caused two train crashes and left Arabic messages at the scene, in an attempt to provoke a backlash against Muslims.
Prosecutors in the Czech Republic told local media that the pensioner chopped down trees so they would fall over the railway tracks near Mlada Boleslav, a small city around 40 miles north of the country's capital, Prague.
State attorney Marek Bodlak said the defendant left leaflets at the scene “containing linguistically garbled threatening texts to evoke that they were written by a jihadist”.
The man who is currently on remand, faces life in prison if found guilty of causing the collisions, which occurred in June and July last year.
"The accused is a native Czech citizen, motivated by the effort to raise concerns among the population about the Muslim migration wave and the commission of terrorist attacks," Mr Bodlak told Czech newspaper Lidove noviny.
Police have accused the unnamed man of a terrorist attack.
The Czech Republic’s criminal code says attempts to “seriously intimidate the population” can be classed as such.

Anti-racism groups have voiced their horror at the leaflets, which direct anyone with questions to the HM Courts & Tribunals Service, and urged anyone who receives one to pass it to police.
In a hate-filled diatribe, it encourages supporters not to be 'sheep' and says: "Sheep follow orders and are easily led, they are allowing the white majority nations of Europe and North America to become over-run by those who like nothing more than to do us harm and turn our democracies into Shaira led police states."
It promises 'rewards' for people who carry out racist and violent actions, ranging from verbal abuse, pulling headscarfs from women's heads, acid attacks, electrocuting Muslims and butchering people.
According to the letter, pulling a Muslim women’s hijab is worth 25 points, an acid attack earns 50 points and burning or bombing a mosque will see the attacker collect 1,000 points.
There is also an image of a dagger with the letters MS, suggesting it is linked to so-called Muslim Slayer who targeted mosques in London and the United States last year with similar threats.
Activist group Tell MAMA, which was set up to tackle anti-Muslim hatred, said the threats were being treated with "the utmost seriousness".
In a statement the organisation said: "It is essential that all letters and envelopes are kept and handled minimally to preserve evidence for the police to investigate.
"Incidents like this are rare but we urge vigilance and calm as we remind Muslim communities that our confidential support service is available to assist in this matter."
Councillor Riaz Ahmed, a Lib Dem in Bradford, West Yorks., said he received the letter to his business address.
He said: "It was not addressed to anyone, just the address and postcode as if it was sent out randomly. It has a second class stamp on the plain white envelope and the frank mark is Sheffield. It was posted yesterday.
"It seems strange that anyone would send something like this to an address in a predominantly Muslim area. When I opened it and saw the content I was horrified."
The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it is aware of the leaflets being distributed in the capital.
A spokesman said: "The MPS does not tolerate any form of hate crime. If anyone believes they have been a victim of such an offence we would encourage them to report it to police so it can be fully investigated."
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are investigating a number of reports of potentially malicious communications sent to individuals in the Bradford area.
"Officers are currently investigating the full circumstances."

Muslim mum knocked out in front of young children in vile racist attack at McDonald's
A Muslim mum was knocked unconscious in front of her young children in an “utterly degrading” racist attack at McDonald’s.
Kellie Cooke, 33, mocked Hamman Hamood’s accent before hurling racist abuse and trying to pull off her headscarf – then knocking her to the floor.
The court heard one of Mrs Hamood’s terrified children later told officers: “Mummy was sleeping on the floor.”
Mum-of-three Cooke, of Lockerby Road in Fairfield, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault and a racially aggravated public order offence at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today.
Melanie Tomlinson, prosecuting, told the court Mrs Hamood, 34, was buying a meal for her family in the Kensington branch of the restaurant at around 8.20pm on March 27, when she encountered Cooke.
She said: “As Mrs Hamood waited at the counter to order her food she became aware of the defendant laughing.
“The defendant asked the complainant what a Frappucino was. The complainant pointed at a photo to show her, and the defendant continued to laugh and mock the way the complainant spoke.
“(Cooke) turned to members of staff and said ‘she doesn’t know what she’s saying’. She then said ‘go back to your own country, you shouldn’t wear that scarf in this country’, and ‘why are you not wearing a full face covering, f*** you’.”
The court heard Cooke became extremely aggressive and started shouting at Mrs Hamood’s four young children.
The victim phoned her husband for help but as she put the phone down Cooke tried to grab her headscarf.
Ms Tomlinson said: “The next thing she can remember is waking up dazed.”
The court was told a witness flagged down a passing police community support officer who entered the restaurant and found Cooke hurling racist insults.
Cooke was arrested and later admitted the offence, but could offer no explanation.
Matthew O’Neill, defending, said his client had no previous convictions and the incident was “out of character.”
District Judge Wendy Lloyd, told Cooke she needed a pre-sentence report before passing sentence.
She said: “This must have been extremely frightening for these victims. As well as frightening, it was utterly degrading for her and her children who were no doubt going out for what they thought would be a lovely meal.”
Judge Lloyd adjourned the case until May 17 for a report to be prepared by the Probation Service, but told Cooke she could still commit it to the Crown Court for harsher punishment.
She said: “I’m not making any promises, imprisonment is certainly in no way being ruled out.”
Cooke was released on bail with conditions not to contact the victim.

Alberta mosque set ablaze in 'brazen' arson
A mosque in Edson, Alta., was set on fire late Saturday night shortly after a small group of people left the building following evening prayers.
The three people who were praying inside had left the Edson Mosque, about 200 kilometres west of Edmonton, and were still in the parking lot when the fire started at the building's south entrance at around 11 p.m. local time.
Mosque security camera footage captured the flames as well as a person in a dark hoodie leaving the property with what appears to be a red jerrycan.
Firefighters arrived 15 minutes after the fire started and extinguished it, said Tufik Baterdouk, vice-president of the Islamic Society of Edson.
"It was quite brazen," Baterdouk said. "Typically you would think that someone who wants to commit arson or vandalism, if they see people ... they probably would change their mind. But this individual, it does not seem to be a concern for him.
"That makes it a little bit more scary to see the fact that the individual knows that there's people on the property, whether they're inside or not, and he still went ahead with it."
The fire occurred a day after Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim celebration that marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting. It left soot and scorch marks on the exterior of the building, which was built five years ago using fire-resistant material.
Baterdouk, who has lived in Edson for 26 years, said he feels disappointed and shocked someone would act violently against his community. He called the fire an attack, and said it's the only one that has happened at the mosque since it opened in 2013.
"Having grown up here, I would not have thought that something like this would happen in a good town like our town," Baterdouk said.
"This is something that we will have to explain to our children ... that kind of weighs on your mind. Probably the hardest thing is having to try to explain to children why something like this could have happened."
Some 15 families visit the mosque regularly, he said.
National outcry
The National Council of Canadian Muslims called it a "cowardly act of arson against a mosque."
"We are relieved no one was hurt in the attack and we stand in solidarity with the entire Edson mosque community at this difficult time," executive director Ihsaan Gardee said in a news release Sunday.
"A clear message needs to be sent that such vile actions that threaten communities will not go unpunished."
Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, said in a tweet that Canadians "stand together with the community against this brazen act."
In a news release, Adil Hasan, vice-president of civic engagement for the Alberta Muslim Public Affairs Council, said: "Given that people were praying evening prayers shortly before the fire was lit, we cannot help but remember the Quebec mosque shooting" in January 2017.
"While we are thankful that there were no injuries or loss of life, the Muslim community in Alberta is shaken and appalled by this arson attack. We expect a full investigation from the RCMP to bring the perpetrator of this heinous attack to justice. Finally, we call on the federal, provincial government to do more to counter Islamophobia and racism".
The mosque is working with RCMP to investigate the fire, said Edson Islamic Society board member Jocelyn Pettitt.
The society won't be treating the fire as a hate crime until police share more information, she said.
"Our doors are always open," Pettitt said. "If there is any concern or feelings of malice or confusion about our faith and our religion, come talk to us or any member of the Muslim community at the mosque. We have plenty of information and they're always willing to answer questions."
In a news release Sunday, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Marlene Brown said the incident is suspicious and officers are investigating it as arson.
"The structure did not become fully engulfed and only minor damage occurred to the structure," Brown said.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Edson RCMP at 780-723-8800.

Shadowy Cell in France Plotted to Kill Muslim Civilians, Authorities Say
PARIS — They called themselves Operational Forces Action, a small, right-wing vigilante group from all over France that had planned to kill Muslim civilians, prosecutors say.
Police cracked the cell over the weekend, with prosecutors saying it had already begun testing explosives. The group was planning to kill veiled women, imams and recently released Islamist prisoners, and wanted to attack mosques and halal grocery stores, according to French news media.
Authorities charged the group — nine men and a woman — with terrorist conspiracy and pointed to its literature, which claimed that it was “fighting the Islamic peril.” The group was led by a former police officer.
All 10 defendants were charged late Wednesday with terrorist conspiracy, while some of them were also charged with illegal possession of firearms and the manufacturing of explosives. Although it was unclear if an attack was imminent, prosecutors said they found 14 handguns, 22 rifles, thousands of cartridges, explosive materials and a guide called “homemade napalm” in their homes.
France suffered a series of devastating terrorist attacks in 2015 and 2016, and fears of Islamist terrorism still run strong. The news of the militant right-wing group was received in France with a mix of curiosity and some disbelief, and is sure to play into a long-running debate about the often-tense relations between Muslims and non-Muslims.
The French news media has resorted to identifying groups like the A.F.O as the “ultraright” to distinguish them from the political far-right, including the party of Marine Le Pen.
Ms. Le Pen, who was defeated in a runoff for the presidency last year, was quick to disavow the defendants. But Louis Aliot, a member of Parliament from Ms. Le Pen’s party who is also her significant other, told the newspaper L’Opinion on Wednesday that “if groups are forming to defend themselves, it is first and foremost because the state is being soft on radical Islam.”
A website that says it is associated with the vigilante group expressed a similar sentiment, mocking French security services for being “incapable of stopping the Islamic attacks.”
The former police officer who led the group was once a poll watcher for Ms. Le Pen’s party, but she said that did not mean it shared his ideas. His name, like those of the other defendants, was not released by the authorities.
Unlike in the United States, where the radical right regularly agitates and holds noisy and visible rallies, “in France they have very little visibility,” said Jean-Yves Camus, a specialist of the far-right at the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs, a think tank.
“It’s very rare to have demonstrations by the ultraright,” Mr. Camus said. “Everything is very much underground.”
Six of the defendants remained in detention, while four had been released under judicial supervision.
The prosecutor’s office said that the group had held meetings to define “objectives, and the actions that would allow them to attain these objectives.” It was looking for weapons, had already tested some explosives, and was giving courses in “survivalism” and “combat.”
The arrests were carried out in Corsica, the Paris suburbs, western France, and the South. Two of the suspects had minor traffic and drug offenses, prosecutors said, but otherwise they did not have arrest records.
French news media said that besides the retired police officer, the group included an ex-soldier, an ex-teacher, an artisan and a restaurant worker.
The website that says it is associated with Operational Forces Action, A.F.O. in French, is a farrago of threats and vague ideology. The home page calls the French internal security services “the haunt of Anti-France.” It lists as adversaries “upholders of the Islamic system,” as well as “sub-Saharan Africans,” “humanists” and “Rights-of-Man types.” Jews are listed as “targets if the War of France breaks out.”
A specialist in right-wing groups, Stéphane François of the National Center for Scientific Research in France, said A.F.O. was “not at all” well known in the constellation of cells on the extreme edges of far-right politics. Nonetheless, all the groups share some characteristics.
“We’re really in the domain of identity here,” said Mr. François, “tied to white European identity, French or regional, which must be defended in the face of the supposed Arab-Muslim invasion.” He added that the groups were persuaded that Muslims would slowly “substitute themselves for the white race and European civilization.”
Like Mr. Camus, Mr. François suggested that the threat from such groups was, for the moment, minimal. “These people are fairly clumsy and disorganized,” he said. “For the moment, they are at an amateur level. The risk is that they organize themselves more seriously.”
Antoine Martinez, a leader of a right-wing group called Volunteers for France that aims to “defend France’s identity,” said that some of its members, including the retired police officer, broke off to form A.F.O. last year over disagreements about how exactly that should be done.
“They probably considered that we were working within legality, and that might not have corresponded to their vision, and that’s the reason that led to their exclusion,” he said in an interview Thursday.
But the difference was in strategy, not ideology.
“Our job is to resist the policies of the leaders who are leading the country, from our point of view, straight into the wall, given what we know about the problem of Islamic terrorism, aggravated today by the migratory invasion,” Mr. Martinez said.

The French are too snooty to be seen holding rallies. This is where the Americans have a distinct advantage, rednecks aren't self conscious enough to be embarrassed making a scene in public. The French will need to get over their pride in their image of sophistication to launch meaningful Islamophobic rallies.

Pakistani Newcastle University student describes horrific knuckleduster attack
ABDULLAH Qaiser was minding his own business as he drove through an area of Newcastle he thought was perfectly safe on Saturday night.
But, the 21-year-old University of Newcastle student — who was on his way to finish an assignment with a friend at the library — was taken by surprise when a group of eight men and one woman walked out into the middle of the road. They blocked his way and forced him to stop.
At first, he thought it was some sort of student prank as the large group began to surrounded his car — but it quickly turned nasty.
The Pakistani student says he was bashed so severely with a knuckleduster that it has left him shaken and needing surgery.
He told the Newcastle Herald a woman reached in through his passenger door and tried to grab his mobile phone as a man pulled open the driver’s side door and yelled: “Go back to your f***ing country, you don’t belong here.”
“I panicked. I didn’t know what to do. The blood was flowing out of my nose,” he told the newspaper.
“I had no option but to stop my car [when he saw the group on the road]. I was just thinking they were students just making fun.”
Leaving the young student in a bloody mess, the group fled the scene after the sickening attack and made off with the mobile phone.
Mr Qaiser said he blacked out briefly but then drove to the university gym where staff gave him first aid and called police, campus security and an ambulance. He was left with a broken nose and needing surgery.
His friend Jabrim Khan said he had to take the injured student to John Hunter Hospital because his face was “smashed up and full of blood”.
“He’s terrified. He’s been in Australia from Pakistan studying engineering for one-and-a-half years and was attacked by people he has never seen before,” Mr Khan told The Daily Telegraph.
“He didn’t know what a knuckleduster was until this happened.
“They told him to go to back to his country. He’s terrified and doesn’t have family here.”
University officials have handed over CCTV footage of the attack to police.
“We promote a culture of respect and tolerance and our priority is making sure the student is okay and is supported while the police conduct their investigation,” a university spokeswoman said.
“In addition to increasing security patrols, we will continue to invest in security infrastructure, such as our expansion of CCTV and emergency help points across campus.
“If anyone on our campuses feels unsafe or needs assistance, they should contact Security Services immediately.”
Despite the reported racial abuse, police said they did not believe the attack was racially motivated.
Officers want to speak with a man and woman in relation to the attack — which happened about 8.30pm on Saturday on the campus’s Ring Road, Callaghan.
Both are described as being of caucasian appearance, aged between 20 and 25.
The man had a muscular build and short blond hair, while the woman had a slim build and long blond-brown hair in a ponytail.

Birmingham mosques attacked by ball-bearing thugs during evening prayers - armed police called
Police are investigating after two mosques in Birmingham were attacked by ball-bearing catapult thugs as dozens of worshippers prayed.
Armed officers were deployed to Fosbrooke Road and Hob Moor Road in Small Heath after the mosques were targeted last night (Wednesday, August 15).
Ball-bearing thugs first used catapults to smash the windows of Masjid Qamarul Islam mosque during evening prayers at around 10pm.
Al-Hijrah mosque was then attacked around 20 minutes later.
Dramatic video - taken by Bearded Broz founder, Imran Hameed - captures the aftermath of the attack at one of the mosques.
A police car and two officers are filmed at the scene as concerned worshippers gather outside.
Imran said officers had been at the scene patrolling the area and reassuring worshippers and local residents.
No arrests have yet been made and West Midlands Police is urging anyone with information to come forward.
A statement from West Midlands Police read: "Two mosques in Small Heath have been hit by catapult bearings, breaking windows during evening prayers tonight (15 Aug).
"The first broke a window in the Masjid Qamarul Islam mosque on Fosbrooke Road around 10pm, followed by another broken window at the Al-Hijrah mosque on Hob Moor Road around 20 minutes later.
"Firearms officers were deployed as a precaution, but the bearings recovered are thought to be from a heavy duty catapult.

Police are investigating after two mosques in Birmingham were attacked by ball-bearing catapult thugs as dozens of worshippers prayed.
Armed officers were deployed to Fosbrooke Road and Hob Moor Road in Small Heath after the mosques were targeted last night (Wednesday, August 15).
Ball-bearing thugs first used catapults to smash the windows of Masjid Qamarul Islam mosque during evening prayers at around 10pm.
Al-Hijrah mosque was then attacked around 20 minutes later.
Dramatic video - taken by Bearded Broz founder, Imran Hameed - captures the aftermath of the attack at one of the mosques.
A police car and two officers are filmed at the scene as concerned worshippers gather outside.
Imran said officers had been at the scene patrolling the area and reassuring worshippers and local residents.
No arrests have yet been made and West Midlands Police is urging anyone with information to come forward.
A statement from West Midlands Police read: "Two mosques in Small Heath have been hit by catapult bearings, breaking windows during evening prayers tonight (15 Aug).
"The first broke a window in the Masjid Qamarul Islam mosque on Fosbrooke Road around 10pm, followed by another broken window at the Al-Hijrah mosque on Hob Moor Road around 20 minutes later.
"Firearms officers were deployed as a precaution, but the bearings recovered are thought to be from a heavy duty catapult.
"The reason for the attacks aren’t clear at this stage, but officers are continuing to patrol the area to reassure worshippers and local residents.
"Anyone with information should call police on 101."

Two friends fuelled by hatred for Islam who filmed themselves tie-up and beat a Muslim-convert with a hammer after tricking their way into his home are jailed for more than five years
Two female friends with a hatred of Islam tied up and tortured a Muslim convert in a disturbing filmed attack.
Emma Storey and Lois Evans, both from Guisborough near Middlesbrough, have been jailed for their assault on the vulnerable victim.
Footage of the distressing incident was played at Teesside Crown Court last Friday where Evans, 30, was jailed for three years and four months and Storey, 35, got two years and eight months.
The court heard that Evans had threatened to use a power drill on the man's kneecaps and feet, screaming that she hated Muslims.
The young victim was repeatedly punched and had his knees smashed with a hammer, while his hair was cut out and wood filler was put into his mouth.
Storey hesitated when Evans threatened to kill the man, the court heard.
Speaking after the case Bethany Raine of the CPS said: 'This was a particularly nasty attack on a vulnerable man, motivated in part by Evans' anger towards his faith.
'The defendants deceived their victim into going with them to Storey's home before tying him up and torturing him; punching him repeatedly, hitting him in the legs with a hammer, cutting his hair and forcing wood filler into his mouth.
'While the pair initially denied the offences videos of the attack were found on Storey's phone, which also captured Evans verbally abusing him about his faith.
'I would sincerely hope that the sentences delivered by the court provide a good measure of comfort to the victim after what must have been a terrifying ordeal.'
Evans admitted false imprisonment, religiously-aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making threats to kill following the incident in April this year.
Storey pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police: Man plowed his car into crowd because he thought they were Muslim
Isaiah Joel Peoples, a 34-year-old army veteran, deliberately drove his car into a crowd of people in Sunnyvale, California, because he thought some of them were Muslim, police said Friday.
“Based on our investigation, new evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted victims based on their race and his belief that they were of the Muslim faith,” Sunnyvale police chief Phan Ngo said outside court. “We understand that you will have many questions based on this announcement. However, we will not be releasing further information for now.”
Peoples is accused of hitting eight pedestrians with his car Tuesday evening. According to police, Peoples had picked up food and was driving to a Bible study group when he intentionally drove into a crosswalk. A witness told the San Francisco Chronicle that he reached speeds of 60 miles per hour before striking the victims. “After crashing, he dragged himself out of the sedan and repeatedly moaned, ‘Thank you, Jesus,’ witnesses said. Police found a disassembled, inoperative shotgun in the Toyota.”
A 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition in a coma and had to have part of her skull removed to relieve pressure, the Chronicle reported, citing court documents. She also has a broken pelvis. The seven other victims have injuries ranging from broken bones to scrapes.
Peoples, a former U.S. Army sharpshooter who served in the Iraq War, appeared in court Friday. He has been charged with eight counts of attempted murder and ordered to be held without bail.
While Peoples has not been charged with a hate crime, officials said they are prepared to do so if the investigation finds sufficient evidence.
“Even before our decision, I will say this: if this is a hate crime, there are far more than eight victims. Hate crimes are a brazen attack on our entire community… We stand together on that street corner. We stand together in that young girl’s hospital room,” Jay Boyarski, Santa Clara County chief assistant district attorney, said in a statement. “This community has been hurt — but we are strong and steadfast and we will stand together against violence, ignorance, and hate.”
Peoples’ mother told the Sacramento Bee that her son suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after returning from Iraq. Chuck Smith, Peoples’ attorney, denied that his client intentionally targeted the victims, saying, “This act was clearly the product of some mental disorder or mental defect.” Police said Peoples showed no sign of remorse.
Reported hate crimes have been on the rise for three consecutive years in the United States, according to FBI data released in 2018. More than half of reported hate crimes targeted a person’s race or ethnicity, while about one in five targeted their religion. After a gunman opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, last month, killing 50 people, Muslim leaders blamed the normalization of Islamaphobia around the world.
