The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not pleased that Fakhar Zaman questioned the selection panel's decision to sideline Babar Azam from the Test side. The panel dropped former captain Babar Azam when they announced the squad for the remaining two Tests against England in Multan and Rawalpindi. Zaman took to X to question the decision, inviting the ire of the PCB. "The top board officials are not pleased with the tweet sent out by Fakhar and relevant persons are having a word with him about it," a well-informed PCB source said. "It's concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn't bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively.

The source, however, disputed Fakhar's tone and said one of the newly inducted selectors, former captain Azhar Ali had spoken to length with Babar on Saturday and explained to him the decision to rest him for the two tests. "Azhar made it clear to Babar that he remained an integral part of Pakistan cricket's future set-up and planning,” the source added.

One of the other new selectors, Aqib Javed said that it had been a challenging task for them to select the Test squad for the two tests.

"We've had to carefully consider current player form, the urgency to bounce back in the series and Pakistan's demanding 2024-25 international schedule. With these factors in mind and in the best interest of Pakistan cricket as well as the players, we've made the decision to rest Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi," he said.

Aaqib said the selectors are confident that this break from international cricket will help these players regain their fitness, confidence and composure, ensuring they return in top shape for future challenges.

The players are super aware of social media even though their agencies manage it.

To the level they probably know their follower count more than their run count.
 
Some Major blunders of Fakhar in this tweet:

1. "It’s concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar". He reacted even before the official announcement by selector
2. Brought India & Kohli in this matter for no reason and putting stats of Kohli for unfair comparison
3. Being an active international cricketer who has played all over the world, he should know his "do's" & "don't"

Believe me no other cricket board will tolerate such non-sense from an active player, but PCB doesn't have too many options. They will just warn him

No need to remove the entire group , Make one of them captain and select players who are performing only, who have abysmal record for the last 2 yrs send them back to domestics and replace them viable option who can compete not some random TDH.. Give the power to the selection committee and keep the coach just only for inputs..

The break for the series and the replacements competition would have shed some light on Babar and created that hunger needed for runs and performance would have helped the team against England..

At least in a court of law that’s not how it works. There’s something called vicarious liability. PCB needs to take some sort of disciplinary action against this guy.

I don’t support dropping your marquee player mid series, but this sort of collusion shouldn’t be encouraged. He got the courage to do this because his previous ‘surgery’ comment was well received on social media. But he needs to understand that his recent comment could even be interpreted as an attempt to malign the PCB and incite protests against it, while being under contract with them. If the PCB wants they can end his career right now.

This was my first instinct as well, it is interesting isn’t it that they picked Fakhar as their messenger. Otherwise it would make sense to relay their concern using the more high profile lapdog from their group, but no, Rizwan has been eerily quiet. I wish they made him captain ahead of Masood, we could see the actor lead Pak against Zimbabwe and he will bring his bf back as well.

Another utter utter moron in a long line of idiots in Pak involved in running this PR machine nonsense that protects this dosti yaari culture among the players group and management. A no merit group along with its die hard fans that has sent the Pakistan team to its lowest point in its history.

The domestic performers have been dealt continuous injustice in favour of consistent failures who've had this machine behind them. The only one that can feel even slightly hard done by is Naseem. The rest should have been dropped a long time ago. This is the first time any meaningful action has been taken to stop this joke of a set up. Send these complacent clowns down to the domestic level to earn their place back the hard way.

Ahmed Shehzad has been absolutely spot on about these guys from the jump.

I did not realize Babar was dropped from the test team because of his ODI and T20 performance.
I always knew historically PCB did not have any reason or logic behind it's decisions but this one takes the cake.

I don't need to go back a year when I saw him two weeks ago vs BD and he looked terrible. Almost as terrible as the Pakistani players who got whitewashed by BD.

He has no business playing Test cricket for India anymore and I certainly wouldn't have in the Pakistan Test team because he adds nothing at this stage of his career.

There is no insult in being dropped we need to get rid of this mentality. It holds us back. You perform you get praise, get a long rope. If you do not perform the rope runs out and you are dropped. No big deal.
 
Can't blame Fakhar for siding with Babar. Teammates are supposed to be united.

But, dropping Babar was a matter of time.
 
His agent must have gotten his approval before making that post on twitter and there was never a chance of Fakhar becoming our white ball captain after he declared war against Naqvi and Usman in that connection camp meeting.
 
What’s the point of dropping a premier batsman in the middle of an important series? Couldn’t they give Babar an opportunity to play the entire series before dropping him. Sometimes a big player turns up big time in the middle of a series.

Pakistan needed him here today.

It was a cringe post to say the least. Bringing Kohli into it and quoting his averages from different years made Fakhar look like a complete geek.

Don't care if his social media team posted it, it was cringeworthy and completely unnecessary. There are other ways to show support for your teammate. Not everything has to be on bloody social media.

When I look at this group of players (along with Ramiz Raja), the word shill comes to mind.

If you read his tweet, three things standout...


1. He is certainly not comparing Babar (the player) vs Kohli (the player).

2. He is comparing the selection policy/rule... between the two countries (cricket boards).

3. He is giving his opinion well before Babar was dropped. He is talking about suggestions (rumors) of Babar being dropped.
That is the most important point.

Movie Stars & politicians with their theatrics & antics also get millions of views but that doesn't mean what they do is always correct.

Fakhar did a serious blunder with this nonsense tweet. His comparison even on selection policy of a player who has failed on every big occasion with a legend who has nothing to prove is absurd and his reaction before official announcement is childish

What code of conduct is being breached? In a respectful manner he believes the best Pakistani batter of this generation shouldn't be benched. It's not an outlandish statement and players do go into dips in Test cricket. Inzi in 1998 had a 17.76 average in 8 Test matches (14 innings) as a well established player and World Cup winner. Half of those innings were at home too, including an infamous loss vs Zimbabwe at home. Only innings he scored over 24 runs that year was vs Australia in a match where it was incredibly flat conditions to the point Australia batted a whopping 262 overs and only lost 9 wickets.

A player is entitled to his opinions and there should be common sense understanding a player who has played his entire career with Babar will obviously support him. Only a clown organization like PCB would act the way it does and I find it despicable PCB is consistently the worst and biggest clown show in cricket but fans will always brunt of the blame towards the players and consistently defending the organization.

I am fine with Babar being dropped even though its hilariously stupid its mid-series but a player should be allowed to express his displeasure with the decision.
 
Fakhar has expressed what 90% of Pakistanis think. Bababr will be back in the nxt series so do not worry about it much.

Fakhar Zaman has responded to PCB's show-cause notice.

Zaman had defended Azam on social media after his removal from the team due to poor form in the second Test against England.

Following Zaman's post, the PCB issued a show-cause notice seeking his explanation. It indicate that the board will review Zaman's response before deciding on his inclusion in the Australian tour squad, set to be announced Monday.

I always thought he was the only patriot left in this lot. Now I doubt that too, maybe that was also a guide/front put on by his PR agency.

Heartbroken by this guy doing what he did.
