So it begins....

Speaking on the sidelines of his County stint with Gloucestershire

"It is too early to talk about a Test return, You never know and things can be changed but for now I'm enjoying playing for Gloucestershire."

"I am playing after three years so it isn't easy as a fast bowler, I didn't play any first-class cricket in the last four years but I am getting better after the first game and just trying to help the boys and do well for them. As a bowler it is my duty to bowl well and lead from the front, so that is what I'm trying to do."

"After recovering from the side strain in the PSL, I was training and feeling so good and thought why not give a chance to red-ball cricket"

"I think I am getting better and on the right path now. I am enjoying red-ball cricket. For now I'm only here for three games and afterwards I'm planning on going to the CPL."

Does sound like he is trying to remain relevant! Please do not think about test cricket, we dont need you.

Why the heck did he not red ball for 3 years? He thought people would be at his doorstep begging for him to return.

What a waste!

He was never that great in Test anyway.

Better to focus on white ball cricket where he has done much better.

I hope he comes back, but comes back with a good attitude and desire to play for pakistan.

I hope he comes back with humility and understanding that he owes his country a lot...

If he does come back, I think he will be a great asset because there will be less expectation from him given shaheen, hasan ali, and naseem are now the main fast bowlers...amir will have less pressure to perform and can just focus on his bowling.

Asif's and Amir's departure is still one of the biggest nightmares I have experienced...in 2010, we were finally getting back on track after 2008 terrorist attacks and then this completely took the wind out of pakistani fans. Some respite was in winning 2011 worldcup, but the semi-final was also a shocker..

Amir needs to realize these things and come in with an attitude that is productive, professional and worthy of being treated as a pakistani test cricketer.

It's too late to make comeback at the age of 32/33, Mr. Aamir. Especially when, in addition to the 5 year ban, you haven't played any FC cricket in 3 years.

6 wickets in this game - not long before calls come for his return...

Too early?

Errrr no mate. It's too late.

Go away. Don't come back ever again
Bye.

Laughable that some Pakistani fans think we don't need Amir in Tests. If our much vaunted and overhyped fast bowling was any good, we wouldn't have:

- Failed to defend 277 in the 4th innings in England in 2020.
- Conceded 600+ with rookie Zak Crawley nearly making a triple ton
- Got smashed like club bowlers in Australia
- Gave our worst bowling performance in New Zealand in decades in 2020/21
- Couldn't bowl out WI tailenders in the 1st Test which cost us the series
- Couldn't take 20 wickets vs Australia at home.

What have these new age shooperstar phaast bowlers done ? Naseem hasn't delivered to expectations, Rauf has broken down after a few County matches, Hasnain was called for chucking, Abbas was totally nullified in NZ, Hasan blows hot and cold.

Please don't make out that PCB did Amir some favour by rehabilitating him - PCB obviously expected something in return and that was for Amir to win matches for Pakistan which he did in England in 2016 and 2018, West Indies 2017, the 2017 Champions Trophy final and his 2019 World Cup performances where he was our best bowler until Shaheen finally found the right length for English conditions.

There were some poor displays too admittedly, but no worse than the others and partly a product of being one of the most bowled pacers in world cricket post-comeback.

I think Amir’s so called success in the 2019 World Cup probably accelerated his wavering interest in test cricket. Although he had good stats, that cutter nonsense started getting exposed the longer the tournament went.

In Amir’s mind: I bowled without exerting myself and I had good stats. I could probably do this in white ball cricket for a while and make a decent living.

However, he has been a pretty pathetic bowler since cos that’s all he does cutters and slower balls.

It’s fine to say our current test bowlers aren’t doing much but at least they putting the hard yards in. The post 2019 Amir is a rubbish bowler that I don’t want anywhere near the team.

Yes, if he can go back to pre-2019 levels he will be a useful addition to the attack but he certainly won’t be a pivotal strike bowler even then.

Amir has a bowling of 31 and if you remove his 2009-2010 stats, he was averaging close to 38 from 2016 to 2019. Amir was certainly not the answer and his record in UAE proves it

Even if he averages 10 in the county championship he should still not make a come back in to Pakistan squad.

30!!!

Feels like he has been around forever.

He’s got to be older than that in reality surely.

He still can offer a lot to Pakistan cricket, we don't have a decent bowler in SENA other than Shaheen.

What a arrogant clown he is.

No way should he ever come back to Test cricket. Maybe T20 if he can perform well in PSL. However even then unless he performs exceptionally well, its best to move on.

You never say never in Pakistan for anything.

Amir may well make a test comeback. Considering how toothless our bowling was against the Aussies I know I would take him in my test XI if we were playing with 5 bowlers. Just imagine Shaheen & a half decent Amir opening the bowling attack.

His actual age is clearly not the same if you have read Osman Samiuddins feature on Cricket Monthly it's easy to estimate his age. Quite a few clues regarding his real age - year he wrote matriculation etc. He is, at the very least, 2 years older than his stated age and it's more likely to be 3.
