Conversation between Afridi and Yuvraj of the former's YouTube channel.

Afridi "We have played a lot of cricket together and we have a friendship off the field. I also have a lot of fans who are big fans of Yuvi. The way you recovered after your treatment and came back to cricket, that was a big effort. How did you motivate yourself at the time?"

Yuvi "I remember when I was sick, Twitter had just begun. I was in America. Whenever I tweeted, I got a lot of love from Pakistan. Indians obviously also gave a lot of love but Pakistan's people also did and I would like to thank all the fans for that.

"It was a tough time because cricket is everything for a cricketer. As a cricketer, you don't think about being sick and saving your life. As a cricketer, I was thinking about how to play my cricket.

"My mother, close friends and family supported me a lot and kept me positive. I read Lance Armstrong's book also about recovering from cancer. There were a lot of motivating factors, many players and people came to visit me as well. I think the advantage was also that I was away from India, away from the media and I could focus on my health. It was a tough time but God gave me strength to come out of that."

Afridi "This guy never lost hope. He kept fighting with himself and it was his willpower that brought him back into the ground. There are a lot of challenges in life. Don't ever be scared of failures. You learn a lot and stand on your feet. Keep fighting, that's most important."

Yuvi "I have a cancer foundation and we are doing quite a lot of work. We have 150 kids who had cancer, their parents spent their savings on their treatment so they don't have money for their studies, so our foundation funds them. We offer treatment to kids below the poverty line.

"I had cancer at the 3.5th stage almost and I recovered from that so why can't others? That's a motivating factor. I try to motivate people but it's difficult, there's a 60-65% chance of survival."

Afridi "Do you want India to visit Pakistan or vice versa?"

Yuvi "When I started playing cricket, in the World Cup I faced Pakistan and the energy and level was different. Then in the mid-2000s, India went to Pakistan and we had some great series. The level of cricket and intensity is something that you don't see otherwise."

Afridi "Currently, the Indian team after IPL is at such a stage where there's so much talent that they can create 2 teams."

Yuvi "In this generation, we have 2-3 really good batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who are grooming the young players. The Indian team also has good fast-bowlers who bowl 140+ and we have good ARs like Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube, our leg-spinners are good.

"If you look at Pakistan, Australia's teams at one point, they were a full, complete team and I think the reason for our success is that our team has every skill so there is consistency in results.

Afridi "The good thing is that your ex-cricketers have involvement and then talent from IPL doesn't take pressure even in front of massive crowds. They play with confidence. We have a few fast-bowlers like Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Hasnain, these are good bowlers and we have Babar Azam who is a great batsman and you will enjoy watching the likes of Abid Ali.

"My wish is for India-Pakistan series to continue, I think it can be bigger than the Ashes if we have some Test and ODIs every year."

Yuvi "I would like to send a lot of love to Pakistani fans. I would like to say that keep watching cricket, keep sending us your love and keep praying for us."

What a phenomenal LOI player Yuvraj was. One of the greatest match-winners in the format. Cancer robbed him of 3-4 great years after the 2011 World Cup.

His partnership with Dhoni was key to India racing ahead of Pakistan in Limited Overs after 2005 onwards. They tormented us in the 2006 series in Pakistan.

It is one of the best partnerships for India in ODI cricket, and they rolled back the clock one final time against England in 2017.

In addition to above, in the last few years, Yuvraj still showed the glimpses of the player he once. The second T20I against Pakistan in 2012, the half-century against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy group match etc.

Unfortunately, although he played stellar roles in India 2011 World Cup and 2007 WT20 triumphs, he played a pivotal role in the 2014 WT20 final defeat to Sri Lanka.

You have to turn an emotional interview between two decent human beings about how India became superior to Pakistan.

Yuvraj is a class act and one of India's greatest ODI players in history. Unfortunately, he never directly answered Afridi's question Afridi "Do you want India to visit Pakistan or vice versa?" (I'm basing this on OP's transcript not having heard or seen the video).

In the absence of any acts of reconciliation on either sides, cricket could be the last bastion of hope to bring people together and bring some order of sanity and semblance to our neighborhood. For that reason, the answer should be unqualified YES, We Must Play with each other

Yuvraj is still a very very smooth timer of cricket ball. Dubey still cannot match him. For some reason they compared him with Yuvraj.

Dhoni came and everything became about him but before Dhoni, it was Yuvraj who owned the Indian middle order.

Most people would agree be was one of the most watchable and exciting batsmen.

Even the few test hundreds he has were quite amazing filled with cracking boundaries .

Absolute match winner. One of our most loved cricketers

As someone whose seen family members get affected by cancer I must say him coming back highlights how tough he really is. Much respect.

Yuvraj for me was an under achiever. He once even admitted in 2011 that watching Kohli go about his training, practice, fielding drills day in, day out actually made him think deep about why didn't he have that kind of work ethic and passion when he was much younger and playing in a team filled with batting legends.

Yuvraj, and any other Indian public figures for that matter, cannot make such statements publicly (there is a threat of backlash by the people or the government or both). BJP has a very tight control over such things — just look at how Bollywood personas who were criticizing Modi four years ago are singing his praises now like Shahrukh Khan, Amir Khan. I doubt they’ve really changed their minds about him and it is more a reflection of how the BJP operates its media

Several critical journalists have also been kicked out from the media industry. Why would Yuvraj risk putting up with all this to get Afridi a couple more likes on his YouTube channel?

Great stuff by Yuvraj Singh. On a side note, don't read the comments on the tweet, I made the mistake of reading the comments and am astonished by the hate. You have comments with thousands of likes saying that they lost all respect for Yuvraj because of him supporting a charity in Pakistan.

India is full of hate now.
Completely submerged in hate.

I used to hear stories about the India-Pakistan rivarly when i was young and i thought it was a fierce but respectable rivarly. But never expected the Indians to talk this much filth.

Yeah even right now #ShameonYuviBhajji is in the top 5 trends in India. Something is clearly wrong when people are shaming someone for supporting a charity during a pandemic . I am actually shocked by this level of hate.

Yuvraj suffered after 2011 onwards because there was just too much competition for batting positions in the team. That meant a couple of failures and he was out. He thrived before that. Kohli's, Sharma's, Dhawan's emergence meant that he was now going to be held to a much higher standard in comparison to the past.

This shows that the hatred is secular in nature. The person's religion doesn't matter, he receives hatred equally for supporting anything Pakistani.

The match showed why Dhoni as a limited overs and T-20 captain is one of the best, he managed to choke the Pakistani batsmen by having the fielders in the right places even with Yuvraj bowling. Sadly i can't remember seeing a single Pakistani captain in the last 20 years who knows how to dry up the runs with the gift of placing the fielders in the right spots and this is a major factor behind why we are continuously so low in the rankings.

Even Tim Paine with his field placings for Nathan Lyon looked levels above in comparison to Azhar Ali and Azhar Ali has played 70 plus test matches for Pakistan. Embarrassing stuff

Shame he couldn't bring harbhajan on board too but nice gesture by Yuvraj
Hopefully Afridi will reciprocate it and lend a hand to Yuvraj's projects

Yuvi was nominated by Bhajji for this video. Bhajji has been part of SAF fund raising event in the past.

Brilliant gesture by Yuvi and Bhaji, in a world full of hatred it is always heart warming to see camaraderie like this.

Champion player. Wish we could have seen him in PSL but politics prevented that.

I think Yuvraj should be invited to PSL next year in a batting coach capacity. Our batsman can also learn a lot from him. As he is not contracted by BCCI, there shouldn't be any issues.

If you sit down to describe Yuvraj Singh with a set of adjectives then there is a high chance words like carefree, flamboyant, stylish, and match-winner will feature in it. Outspoken may not rank high in that list but considering the nature of Yuvraj Singh it should definitely find a place in somewhere. Nine months after announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has decided to tap that outspoken side of his.

India’s prolific match-winner in their recent two World Cups – 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup – Yuvraj revealed he got more support under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy than under MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Yuvraj, who made his debut under Ganguly’s captaincy against Australia in the Champions Trophy in 2000, has played under Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in different times.

The swashbuckling left-hander, however, rates Ganguly – his first captain – higher.

“I have played under Sourav (Ganguly) and had a lot of support from him. Then Mahi (MS Dhoni) took over. It’s a difficult choice to make between Sourav and Mahi. I have more memories of time under Sourav because of the support he gave me. I didn’t have that kind of support from Mahi and Virat (Kohli),” Yuvraj told Sportstar.

Yuvraj represented India in 304 ODIs, 110 of those were under Ganguly’s captaincy – the most. Dhoni is a close second, under whom Yuvraj has played 104 ODIs.

Interestingly, Yuvraj has the best record playing under Dhoni. He has scored 3077 in 104 ODIs playing under Dhoni at an average close to 37 while under Ganguly he has scored 2640 runs at an average of 30 in 110 ODIs. A lot of it, however, has to with Yuvraj getting more experienced and accomplished as an international batsman when Dhoni was the leader.

Reflecting on the starting days of his career, Yuvraj said it was an amazing feeling to be suddenly sitting beside his heroes in the Indian dressing room.

“I came (in 2000) when there was no IPL. I used to watch my heroes on screen and suddenly I was sitting next to them. I had such respect for them and learnt from them how to behave, how to talk to the media. There was a lot of learning. Today, there are hardly any seniors to guide the players who are mostly the same age,” Yuvraj Singh.

Speaking about the current lockdown scenario, Yuvraj said, it is heartbreaking to see so many people die because of coronavirus.

“I think this has its advantages and disadvantages. It’s heartbreaking to see so many people dying all over the world. It is spreading so fast. People, rather than panicking, should visit the official health sites (WHO and Union Health Ministry) to really understand what the disease is. In my case of cancer, I was also very scared in the beginning but then I got the right information, went to the right doctor and hospital. Please understand that these government and official health sites will guide you accurately because there is rampant misinformation about the virus on social media. First of all, people need to stop reading (social media) and look for correct information.”

Ganguly persisted and stuck with Yuvraj when he was averaging 26

Shouldn't have played after cancer which led to some performances that reduced his legacy

On the contrary. The fact that he came back to play international cricket after beating cancer solidifies him as the ultimate fighter.

I can't think of another athlete who has come back to that level (even if briefly) after cancer.
His comeback will be a huge motivation for people going through that battle

I love Yuvraj. Besides being a great limited-overs players he has always seemed like one of the most genuine guys in the Indian team. It doesn't surprise me that he is getting chastised by Indians on Twitter but I don't expect him to go post a video on Twitter of him hitting a six off a Pakistani bowler like Harbhajan did just to give the crowd baying for blood in the comments section something to chew on. That's the difference between Yuvraj and the other Indian players like Kaif, Harbhajan etc who almost act like they have to prove their loyalty to India from time to time.

But he wasn't the same player again. Some performances like that one in T20 WC final in 2014 hurt fans and used to undermine him by trolls :(

Yuvraj sought inspiration from Lance Armstrong while battling cancer, the funny thing is the Armstrong turned out to be a disgraced cheat whereas Yuvraj Singh will now have a better legacy

Lol.. why they want to do that.

Kaif is gem, he never cross the line.
Posting old match videos is common practice across all cricketers.

Well he called Pakistan a safe breeding ground for terrorists. May not be a statement that crosses the line for you but to people like me it reflects on his character. But then again I'm also not surprised considering the environment of fear that has been created in India. Saying anything about Pakistan can land you in jail or in the hands of a blood-thirsty mob.

There are not many role models in the current Indian cricket set up other than Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and the seniors do not command much respect from the youngsters, feels former flamboyant all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. In a live Instagram question and answer session, deputy skipper Rohit asked Yuvraj about the difference between the current team and the players who played alongside the left-hander.

"When I came into the team or when you (Rohit) came into the team, our seniors were very disciplined. Obviously there was no social media so there were no distractions," said Yuvraj.

"There was a certain behaviour that we boys had to carry, how they talk to people, how they talk to media. Because they were the ambassadors of the game and India."

But it is not the same anymore, feels Yuvraj. "So that is what I had told you guys. After playing for India, you have to be more careful about your image. But I feel the third generation. There are only you two seniors, Virat and you, who are playing all the formats, rest of the guys are coming and going.

"I just feel there are very fewer guys to look up to and I feel that a sense of respect towards seniors, that has become a thin line now. Koi bhee kisiko kuch bhee keh deta bhain (anyone can say anything to anyone," said Yuvraj.

Yuvraj, one of the best cricketers the world cricket has seen, said the players during his time were conscious of whatever they did.

"I think juniors, because of social media, party scenes, these things, we could not even think about that in our time. Because we had that fear that if we do some mistake our senior will tell us that do not do this, this is not right," he said.

Commenting the infamous incident involving Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, who were suspended for their loose talk on women on a chat show, Yuvraj added: "That incident could not have happened in our time."

Rohit on his part said the atmosphere in the team is "very light" at the moment.

"When I came into the team, there were so many seniors. I think I was the only youngster alongside Piyush Chawla and Suresh Raina. The atmosphere is light now. I keep talking to the youngsters, the five-six of them.

"I speak to Rishabh a lot. There was so much scrutiny on him and he got worked up. Media should also think before writing about him. But scrutiny will be there as long as you are playing for India."

On the mindset of the younger generation, Yuvraj said most of them only want to play limited overs cricket.

"Sachin paaji told me once 'if you perform on field, everything else will follow'. I was at NCA once and I interacted with the younger lot. I felt most of them did not want to play Test cricket which is real cricket. They are happy playing one-day cricket.

"I feel even the players who have already played for India should play domestic cricket when they are not on national duty. It would give them valuable experience of playing on different surfaces around the country," Yuvraj added.

"People from India & Pakistan need to have more patience towards their players" : Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh in an Instagram chat with Rohit Sharma:

"Big example is India-Pakistan games. Everyone gets personal about their countries but you have to think about the players. Everybody is giving 100% on the field. Only 1 team is going to win, sometimes the opposition and sometimes you. Indian team has won most of the championships because we have handled pressure better. Pakistan in the earlier decades were a much better team who did the same thing. I just feel that people of our countries from both sides should have a bit more patience towards players."

India legend Yuvraj Singh, the most expensive buy in IPL’s history, admits that big money does add pressure to perform but it doesn’t change a player.

The former India allrounder continues to be the costliest player in IPL history when he was bought by the erstwhile Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for a whopping Rs 16 crore in 2015.

“The pressure is felt because of the big (IPL) money,” Yuvraj said during an Instagram Live chat with former India teammate Mohammad Kaif on Monday.

He continued, “I won’t say it changes a player. Now when you climb the success ladder, people try to drag you down,” Yuvraj said during an Instagram Live with former teammate Mohammad Kaif.”

Despite the price tag, Yuvraj managed 248 runs from 14 matches.

The 2011 World Cup’s player-of-the-tournament said the negative coverage that comes with each failure also affects a player and so he advises youngsters to keep away from media.

“See the point is…pressure is there because when you get out and don’t perform they say he is getting so much money and not performing. Negative news sells more and those things affect you. My advice to all youngsters would be to stay away from TV and newspapers,” he said.

The 38-year-old won the 2008 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup during his India career and apart from his batting, he was also known for his sharp fielding at point.

However, it wasn’t something that the left-hander was concerned about when growing up.

“I was very athletic. I was quick. But fielding i did not have too much idea. In the first Ranji match I was playing, I was 15-16 years. I misfielded and next day article came out Yuvraj Singh ‘gateway of India’,” he recalled. “My father read that. He said now I will see how you don’t improve your fielding. Then I started getting better and body also got stronger.”

Apart from their fielding, Yuvraj and Kaif are remembered for their game-changing partnership in the final of the 2002 Natwest Series final against England. The duo added 121 runs between them to push India out of a struggling phase as they successfully chased down 326 with two wickets and three deliveries remaining.

“My lesson from that game was that you can’t relax at any time. England had thought they had won the game. You can’t give up. You have to keep trying,” Yuvraj said.

Former India cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh, in a recent interview, said that his son Yuvraj was ‘backstabbed’ by many people including current captain Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Yuvraj, last month, in an Instagram Live chat with Sportstar, had said that he did not receive the similar kind of support from Kohli and Dhoni as captains, as he had received from Sourav Ganguly.

On being questioned about the same in an interview to News24, Yograj said: “Along with these two (Dhoni and Kohli), I would say that even the selectors betrayed him. I had met Ravi recently. He asked me for a photograph. I called him and pointed out that all great players should get a send-off based on their performances.”

“When Dhoni, Kohli or Rohit retire, I would request the board to give them a good send-off as they have done so much for Indian cricket. Many have backstabbed him and it hurts,” he added.

Yograj further went on to allege bias from the selection panel and named Sarandeep Singh, who kept asking for Yuvraj to be dropped from the team.

“Indian selector Sharandeep Singh, he used to go to meetings and say that Yuvraj should be dropped. Such people are appointed as selectors who do not know ABC of cricket. What do you expect from them?” Yograj said.

“It hurts when someone backstabs you. Everybody was worried about what would happen to them if Yuvraj continues to perform,” he added.

Yograj further said that Suresh Raina was touted to be picked over Yuvraj when the squad for the 2011 World Cup was being decided. “What’s new in that? I also got to know, even though I am not sure of how much of it is true, that in one of the meetings, someone said that the Indian team doesn’t need Yuvraj as Suresh Raina is a part of the team. I did not say so. Yuvraj himself said so and I have heard many cricketers say so as well,” Yograj said.

Yograj has a tendency but I am always one of those who believed Yuvi was made scapegoat for a few popular defeats and discarded wrongfully.

An 80% lion is still better than a 100% donkey.

We persisted with mediocre guys like Jadhav, Rayudu, Shankar

Pant, DK also didn't fire when mattered

Yuvraj was a match winner

Yuvraj was India's biggest match winner, bigger than Tendulkar or Kohli.

You need to self analyse there are some genuine reasons to hate because of ISI and Mumbai terror attacks

You need to self analyse there are some genuine reasons to hate because of ISI and Mumbai terror attacks

It goes both ways. We aren’t innocent but neither is India. What matters is the future, and at this point Pakistanis have nothing but a desire for brotherhood and friendship. The same can’t be said about Modi’s India, which is why people like Yuvraj Singh who are willing to speak with an open mind despite the BJP control and propaganda are very much respected by myself and millions of other Pakistanis. He isn’t afraid to say things like “I would like to send a lot of love to my Pakistani fans” and realizes there is more to be gained out if cooperation and brotherhood than enmity.

Any other current Indian cricketer would be terrified of such a statement. And other celebrities otherwise loved in Pakistan from Shahrukh Khan to Amir Khan have sold out to the BJP.

I have lots of respect for him. Knows when to speak his heart and believes in brotherhood and love. The best tournament performer India has ever seen. He will forever be among my favorite Indian cricketers.

The six sixes that Yuvraj Singh hit at the 2007 T20 World Cup is one of the most special moments in Indian cricket, if not world cricket. Fans of the sport cannot get enough of Yuvraj smashing six sixes off six balls against England. It has been played countless times in the last 12-13 years on the television screens and any story of Yuvraj or Stuart Broad talking about the over has made headlines in cricketing circles.

India were in a strong position in the match against England but Yuvraj propelled his country to a mammoth score with six monstrous hits out of the park in Stuart Broad’s over.

Yuvraj again recalled the argument with England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff before the over, the incident that fuelled the iconic moment.

“I think Freddie bowled two good balls and he bowled a yorker which I managed to hit for a boundary. Then he told me that this was a dash shot, he got pretty elaborative. He said I am gonna cut your throat off and then I replied saying you see this bat in my hand? You know where I am gonna hit you with this bat? I remember I was so angry when I hit Broadie for six sixes, I looked at Dimitri Mascarenas and then I looked at Freddie,” Yuvraj told Kevin Pietersen on Instagram live.

“Mascarenas had hit me for five sixes during an ODI match so that is why I looked at him first. It was one of those games which we all will remember,” he added.

Yuvraj played an important role in India’s success at the 2007 World T20 and the 2011 World Cup. He was awarded the Player of the Tournament in India’s triumph at the 2011 50-over World.

Yuvraj’s career spanned 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests as he an earned special mention in India’s cricket history.

A police complaint has been filed against former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in Hansi police station of Hisar district, Haryana, for his alleged casteist comments for spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

The written complaint was given by Dalit rights activist and advocate Rajat Kalsan in which he has demanded registration on an FIR against Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj Singh had allegedly made a casteist remark towards Yuzvendra Chahal while having a conversation with Rohit Sharma on Instagram during which Yuzvendra Chahal's name came up in their discussion.

Talking about Chahal's TikTok videos, Yuvraj had said: "Yeh b***gi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep)."

“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit replied.

The short clip has gone viral on social media with 'Yuvraj Singh maafi mango' one of the leading trends on Twitter.

The comments might have been made as a joke but it left a bad taste in the mouths of the fans as they took offence to it.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes the BCCI did not manage his former teammates such as Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan well towards the end of their careers and hoped the board will recognise the efforts of match-winners in the future and honour them for their contribution towards Indian cricket.

Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket last year after playing for 19 years, did not get a farewell game and neither did Zaheer or Sehwag. Yuvraj also feels that the way BCCI handled him towards the end of his career was ‘unprofessional’, although it wasn’t surprising for him.

“Giving someone a farewell, that’s not for me to decide. It’s up to the BCCI. But I felt the way that they managed me towards the end of my career, was very unprofessional,” Yuvraj told SportsKeeda. “But looking back at some of the great players from India - Harbhajan [Singh], [Virender] Sehwag, Zaheer Khan - were also badly mismanaged. It’s part of Indian cricket, I have seen that in the past so I wasn’t really surprised.”

Yuvraj last played for India during the tour of West Indies in 2017. Earlier that year in January, Yuvraj made his final comeback into the Indian team during the ODI series against England and smashed a career-best 150 in Cuttack.

Yuvraj was part of the India’s squad for the 2017 Champions Trophy where his only significant contribution was a knock of 53 against Pakistan. Yuvraj, who announced his retirement in the middle of the World Cup last year, wants the BCCI will pay respect to some of the greats of the game, who couldn’t finish their careers on a high.

“But in the future, anybody who has played for India for a long time and has been through tough situations, you should definitely honour him. Give him that respect, somebody like Gautam Gambhir, who has won two World Cups for us. Sehwag, who has been the biggest match-winner after Sunil Gavaskar in Tests. Zaheer, who has 350 wickets, Laxman... and all these guys,” said Yuvraj.

The only.players that was mismanaged was Yuvraj himself who always had a lot to offer on anh LOI format.

Mismanagement happened to many players.
Ganguly, Dravid, Lakshman, Sehwag and Bajji.

You cant complain for that.

Sehwag had an opportunity to comeback but he never took seriously and didnt play domestic cricket.

Raina also same, he never took seriously and completely ignored domestic cricket, simply waiting for IPL

I agree with Yuvi.
BCCI should honor and give proper farewell to all players who contributed towards Indian cricket.

Why?

Are players that dumb that they didn’t realize their playing days are numbered? Shouldn’t they have retired when they had a chance rather than thrown out by BCCI for carrying on far too long?

Indian players really don’t know when to stop. I can’t recall any player went out with dignity(even Tendulkar played on for far too long). Playing for a nation is a privilege and shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Rahul dravid is probably the last one I can think of who retired with grace.

Yuvraj Singh has revealed how he was backed to the hilt by Virat Kohli during his last international comeback but it was MS Dhoni, who informed the left-handed batsman that he was not in the mix for India’s 2019 World Cup plans. Yuvraj last played for India during the tour of West Indies in 2017. Earlier that year in January, Yuvraj made his final comeback into the Indian team during the ODI series against England and smashed a career-best 150 in Cuttack.

Yuvraj was part of the India’s squad for the 2017 Champions Trophy where his only significant contribution was a knock of 53 against Pakistan and announced his retirement last year during the World Cup in England.

“When I made my comeback, Virat Kohli supported me. Had he not backed me then I wouldn’t have made a comeback. But then it was Dhoni who showed me the correct picture about the 2019 World Cup that selectors are not looking at you,” Yuvraj told News18. “He showed me the real picture. He gave me clarity. He did as much as he could.”

Missing the bus to the 2019 World Cup meant that Yuvraj, who was named Man of the Series in the 2011 World Cup, would not make it to back-to-back World Cups. In 2015, Yuvraj, struggling with poor form, missed being part of India’s squad for the mega-event, and despite scoring three Ranji Trophy hundreds on the trot in the lead up to the World Cup, the BCCI omitted him. That said, Yuvraj insisted he never had any complaints from Dhoni

“Till the 2011 World Cup, MS had a lot of confidence in me and used to tell me that ‘you are my main player’,” Yuvraj said. “But after coming back from illness the game changed and a lot of changes happened in the team. So as far as the 2015 World Cup is concerned, you can’t really pinpoint at something. So this is a very personal call.

“So I understood that as a captain sometimes you can’t justify everything because at the end of the day you have to see how the country performs.”

Yuvraj Singh six sixes

September 19, 2007: It was on this very day back when former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh set Kingsmead on fire hitting six sixes in an over bringing the world to its feet.

What a moment it was.

I am glad I watched it on TV with my father as it is also one of the moments I cherish when I look back at my relationship with my dear father.

Amazing how sports bring families together.

Thanks Yuvraj.

Yuvraj Singh, who had requested the BCCI to grant him permission to make a comeback from his retirement to play in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, has missed the cut to make it to the senior men’s Punjab team. His request has not been approved by the national cricket body.

Yuvraj, who quit cricket in 2019 and played in franchise leagues, was part of the 32-strong probables group announced by the Punjab Cricket Association earlier this month. Mandeep Singh has been named as captain of the Punjab team.

The PCA Senior Selection Committee picked the Punjab senior team which will participate in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy starting January 10 at Alur. Yuvraj did play the practice matches at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali last week. The PCA secretary Puneet Bali had asked Yuvraj to come out of the retirement and be part of the team. He had thought Yuvraj could mentor the team while being a player.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Barinder Singh Sran has returned to the Punjab fold. He applied for BCCI nod to get back to Punjab from UT Cricket Association (Chandigarh). Munish Bali is coach of the team while former India cricketer Manpreet Gony is the bowling coach.

Punjab team: Mandeep Singh (captain), Gurkeerat Mann (vice-captain), Rohan Marwaha, Abhinav Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, Anmolpreet Singh, Anmol Malhotra, Sanvir Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Karan Kaila, Mayank Markande, Abhishek Sharma, Ramandeep Singh, Siddharth Kaul, Barinder Sran, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Baltej Dhanda, Krishan and Gitansh Khera.
