Guys like Nehal, Raman, Abhishek etc have been closed mentored by Yuvraj Singh. He played a couple of his last seasons with these young kids and mentored them very closely. During COVID. Abhishek and Gill had nowhere to practise and Yuvraj Singh bore all expenses and they stayed at his bungalow in Chandigarh with him and he provided them all the facilities. He has transformed Abhishek into a six hitting monster. I have followed Abhishek since his under 16 days and he was not a six hitting Monster we see today. The Punjab team won the last SMAT trophy and all the guys from 1-7 hit some huge sixes just for fun.
Thank you Yuvraj!!!

Punjab the kings for life

No six yet for Abhishek in the IPL. 4 matches so far I believe

That’s how it should be. Coach in silence and let the world talk about your work.

Yuvraj had a genuine talent for hitting sixes. He could hit sixes against bowlers that others batters wouldn’t dare. I remember he hit prime Saeed Ajmal for 3 sixes in an over or back to back i think back when no batter in our line up would take him on and the way Yuvraj did it looked so easy. That’s pure talent. Ball ko bana ke maarta thha.

Some past players like Yuvraj and Irfan have really gone above and beyond when mentoring youngsters without any expectations of compensation or acknowledgement.

Plenty of other examples I must not know. Our boomers are alright.

Could be a wild idea - but how about Yuvraj as India coach in future? Would do a better job than Gambhir for sure.

Sachin paaji has also done a great job for the retired cricketers. He used his influence and popularity to create retired player leagues which financially supported many ex cricketers not just from Bharat but of many neighbouring countries. Sachin stays under the radar but he’s really only made people richer around him through his positive influence and popularity.

It's nice to see. This is what coaching and mentoring really is. Doing the hard work behind the scenes to help the talent flourish. Well done Yuvi!

From watching some recent interviews of young IPL players, i have also learnt a lot of these players are also very actively figuring out which mentorship set up in IPL is best for their growth in order to earn a cap for Bharat. They’re thinking like that. Money they know they will make anywhere in IPL in any team. They’re texting senior players of teams they like and asking them to pick them not because they’re insecure they’d get a chance but because they feel that IPL franchise set up can help them develop their game.

This seems a bit dangerous and can lead to parchism and sifarish. it's better to keep it above board rather than rely on backdoor methods. Fixing and cricket mafias are very strong in India so I would urge caution around these methods.
traditional methods have served Indian cricket well and players should be encouraged to follow them than try to make personal connections for selection, otherwise a friendship or like/dislike culture can develop.

Also, Yuvraj is a proper Punjabi. So when he talks about food or when he talks in Punjabi, there is a fair bit I can relate to. Don't always feel that relatability with Indians from other parts of India...even Delhi. Punjabis from India and Pak know what I am talking about.

I don't think he financially supported them. Most of them were already well off and are playing for fun now. I still appreciate him for creating a retired league though to bring back memories.

But i think someone like lara probably doesn't need an extra buck lol.

They’re all benefitting from his beainchild. No not all ex cricketers are really well off. Most of Sachin’s batch mates including he himself didn’t make a lot of money from IPL. You mentioned Lara which isn’t a great example, think about most of the players on his team. Many of them are benefitting from these leagues and making a living.

Not to mention besides money, keep all these old folks engaged in cricket is great from healthier of view too.
