"It was Mickey Arthur who came here and started this problem of fitness tests" : Kamran Akmal

No wonder fitness tests are a "problem" for him.

Can we finally consign the Akmals to the dustbin of history ?

What an idiot
Apart from influencing his brother this muppet needs to start taking sport professionally and not as an something that he has just been blessed with

Still creams the ball better than most. But I agree, fitness is key boss. Even minimum fitness requirements. Look at Sehwag and Inzi. Not necessarily the most agile or lean, yet they could survive with their batting. Kami and Umar are not good enough at that level with the bat to be given special treatment

‘It was Mickey Arthur who came here and started this problem of fitness tests. This policy won't make players focus on fitness and because of these policies, our cricket is going down’

Wow this will go down as one of the most famous quotes in history. According to this uneducated idiot Fitness is not essential.

How do people not understand, the game has changed. You need to be fit, for example fielding alone can win or lose you a game.

It’s not just talent, talent is part of the formula, fitness and hard work make a player good.

Those damn fitness tests, how dare PCB want domestic cricketers to be professional and fit.

80s...90s maybe. Sehwag and Inzi wont survive in today's limited overs cricket.

Definitely not Inzi, he'd be stuck at the crease scared to take a single against an agile group of close fielders that most oppositions have.

PCB need to release the video so that Akmal ******* see the evidence.

Or after a few weeks this will be termed as a conspiracy!

So what is Mr Zero Tolerance Wasim Khan going to do about this ?

If PCB are serious about this supposed new era professionalism and discipline they're trying to instil, then both Akmal brothers should lose their Central Punjab contracts, minimum.

They haven't signed onto the contracts in the first place.

Kamran Akmal mentioned he is still getting his departmental salary and thus he doesn't 'need' PCB's contract, etc.

And we're sitting here wondering if we can match up to India. Entertaining fringe players is a sign of a weak board.

I can think back to when India dropped an established Raina for young blood and never looked back. And we're still thinking of including Akmal because 'once upon a time' he scored a 47 or something.

Apart from one inning I cannot remember any inning of substance from Kamran Akmal in ODIs/T20s, despite getting many chances. He was always a quick 15 to 20 player.

What a clown Micky Arthur is. How dare he insist that professional athletes should have high fitness standards and a level of professionalism. Who does he think he is?

Lol.

Back in 2013 when I joined he was being hyped up for a recall by loads. Apparently he's one of the best offside players around.

He's comeback about four times since and been dropped again. Every time his offisde game somehow gets even better each time he's dropped :))

Funny part is, for all the differences Misbah had with Mickey's legacy, importance of fitness is probably the one thing he agrees with him on.

Hes 38 for god sakes At his age players retire but for some reason in his mind hes the 2nd coming of gilchrist

I think he is seriously deluded He cant pass a simple fitness test when will the truth sink in and he ll stop embarrasing himself and his family

I do feel that he's been hard done and should have been part of shorter formats squads but the amount of negativity he carries as can be seen in this interview is really scary

Kamran Akmal flays PCB over online fitness tests

LAHORE: Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal expressed his displeasure over the online fitness tests being conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), during the coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown. While speaking on a local news channel, the wicketkeeper-batsman advised the Pakistan head coach-cum-chief selector, Misbahul Haq, to alter his fitness policy.

“It becomes really difficult to give fitness tests after every two or three months during the season,” said Akmal. “PCB should rather train players by setting up a camp in the off season. This is what previous coaches like the late Bob Woolmer used to do, as too much training can cause injury to bowlers and also results in loss of stamina for batsmen.”

Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood, on Saturday, suffered an injury while giving the PCB’s online fitness test. The right-handed batsman suffered a deep cut on his knees because of a broken glass table, while performing the necessary exercises for the test.

While the 38-year-old understands the importance of fitness, but he stressed that more emphasis should be given to skill development. “Fitness is important but skill development needs more hardwork and players should spend more time in improving their skills,” he said.

“Misbah himself understands that he has performed in international cricket for a long time due to his skills.” PCB’s centrally contracted players started going through their online fitness tests on Monday, which have been designed by the strength and conditioning coach of the Pakistan team Yasir Malik.

Or perhaps the reason they're getting injured is that they aren't up to international standards fitness-wise? A good way of keeping the likes of Kamran out.

The only players that complain about fitness tests are those that cant pass it...

These comments just show the disruptive attitude he possesses This alone should mean he is no where near the team

Never mind the fact hes 38, unfit and cant field or catch...

Inbefore Hawkeye comes to this thread ‘okay he’s unfit but can you name 5 replacements who are better than him? No I don’t mean higher average or strike rate! I mean looook better when playing the fast bowlers? No one? That’s what I thought. He should in the World Cup squad opening instead of Babar Azam.’

Kami speaking on a TV channel:

"Misbah has his own planning, every coach has his own planning to make the team better. Misbah knows that fitness is important for every athlete. But I think skill work is doubly important. Misbah knows that himself, if he gave so much performance internationally, he didn't have talent but he worked hard and improved his skill and played for a long time and captained the team.

"I think we need to focus on skills and performance the most. After that, performance comes. When you stay in the nets for 2-2.5 hours and bowl as a fast-bowler or practice and you field for an hour, fitness comes.

"Whatever else there is can be done during the off-season which is better in my opinion. But during the season, every 2-3 months while matches are going on, it's difficult to give fitness tests. During the off-season, you can arrange a camp and have training, like Bob used to do and others have done.

"But it shouldn't be too much, so much training that fast-bowlers' energy finishes and batsmen don't have stamina and can't show their temperament. So you need to focus more on skill. Anyway the players do focus on their training themselves.

"All our previous greats became greats doing the same things, focusing on skills and performances and not sacrificing on that."

LMAO. If people still support this rubbish they seriously need some help. Joke of a cricketer. His batting average is on par with bowlers and acts like some sort of ATG.

These are the exercises that form the fitness test. Any fit athlete should be able to complete this on a weekly bases let alone every 3 months without sacrificing skill training.

Someone should question him how today's fielding standards compare to the greats he keeps bringing up from 20 years ago.

When will the tests come out on who's passed and do you no who's taken the tests or has been invited to take the tests

The tests recently occurred so it will take some time for the results to become public. I would expect Babar's score to improve from last time around along with Sarfraz who I quite frankly no longer wish to see play for Pakistan again.
