South African star spinner Imran Tahir has said that it was very painful to see compatriot and former Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis, carry drinks for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League. Tahir also heaped praise on how good CSK is as a franchise. The leg spinner said that the franchise and the Chennai fans give the utmost respect to their players. The South African spinner has not played a single game for CSK this season and there has been serious speculation as to when the Proteas spinner will be seen in action in the ongoing IPL.

"Best team, from my heart is Chennai. I've been all over the world. I've never seen so much respect given from a franchise. I've never seen someone look after my family so well, the fans in Chennai are unbelievably lovely," Tahir told Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in his YouTube show ''Hello Dubaiahh.''

"When I played there it was a different atmosphere. And the main reason is I love their culture. They don't talk about performances and are always supportive and that is what I like about it as in cricket. You'll perform one day, and not on another," he added.

Tahir said that he has got "no clue" as to when he would play and asserted that it is quite difficult for a player to get into the CSK squad when four overseas players have already cemented their name.

"I have no clue. Earlier, Faf Du Plessis had to carry drinks the whole season. It was quite painful. He's got a brilliant T20 average. I'm doing that this year. I actually got an idea of how he felt. I have been talking to him as well," Tahir said.

With four games remaining for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the MS Dhoni-led unit would ideally look to finish on a high.

With Bravo ruled out, CSK is likely to finally bring last year's purple cap, Imran Tahir, into the playing XI for the remaining four games.

"And once four overseas players are settled in CSK then it's hard for the fifth guy. I hope I get a game," said Tahir.

How much $$$ are these foreign players paid to merely serve drinks? :91:

Lol this is the mentality that needs to change amongst desis. Don't act like your crap doesn't stink. Get off your high horse.

In Australia even CEO's actually never act pompous. They are quite the opposite and actually mingle with the mid level workers etc.

Du plesis may be a captain but there is nothing wrong in delivering drinks lol to your team mates. you all get paid.

Faf carrying drinks and Curran playing every game

I would be crying like Bilal Saeed in his song Adhi Adhi raat, if I were a CSK player/fan

What is Tahir saying, isn't Faf among leading run scorers this years IPL with some 400 runs to his name??

Surely, those runs are not coming up sitting in the dugout and carrying drinks.

Am afraid if you are going to score 1 like you did today, CSK will make you run drinks!

He’s talking about a previous season.

He’s basically saying “it’s painful for me to carry drinks” but didn’t want to say it directly so said it indirectly.

What a classy thing to do.

Imran Tahir always comes across as a classy guy.

Lol i think Faf played every game in this season... Him, Curran and Chahar was only positive things for CSK this season..

Why has Imran Tahir been dropped? Is he past his best as a bowler?

Lol Desis have a classist mentality where they think serving their teammates drinks is beneath them just because of the "age" or "status", it hurts their ego. Most people in the west wouldn't even think twice about this, if anything it shows Faf is a good teammate and doesn't have a big ego.

Babar Azam has been a revelation for Pakistan cricket ever since he broke into the scene at the international level in 2015. Since then, Babar has made the right noise with a steady rise in limited-overs followed by much success in the purest format of the game, in recent years, as well. Thus, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) went a step ahead and appointed him as the full-time captain early this month. Babar-led Pakistan's next assignment is a tour of New Zealand, comprising three T20Is and two Tests, and the whole cricketing fraternity is waiting to see if the extra responsibilities will burden Babar or not.

Former South African spinner Imran Tahir opened up in this regard and predicted a smooth run for the 26-year-old. Talking to Dawn at the LCCA Ground, where he mentored the young cricketers training at its parent Shining Cricket Club, said, "Look Babar Azam is one of the finest and best batsmen in the world and the way he is taking responsibility, I don’t feel that captaincy in all three formats will make any negative effect on his batting."

On the other hand, Tahir seemed relieved that the cricketing action has resumed in full swing after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a complete halt to the game worldwide. "It is a very positive development that South Africans are coming to Pakistan (next year) and it is a huge boost for the country’s cricket," said Tahir, who played a handful of games for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2020.

Talking about Babar, the right-hander was already appointed as the T20I captain last year when PCB had sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed following the disastrous 2019 World Cup and T20I series whitewash versus a second-stringed Sri Lanka at home. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Babar was promoted as the limited-overs skipper before he replaced Azhar Ali as the Test captain before the side's departure to New Zealand.

Pakistan's tour of New Zealand will commence from December 18.

Looks like Imran Tahir is ready to represent Proteas again. He is not taking that choker tag anymore. LOL
