It's Pakistan vs Bangladesh for the first time in a World Cup since 1999; Can we make it 1-1?

I still have the memories of that day we won all our group matches except the one against Bangladesh and after that we had to wait for 20 more years to face BD again in a WC match and this time they are far more strong and as good as any other team in the WC.

Pakistan won 40 matches (all formats) against Bangladesh in a row after that famous upset but the memories of that WC match are still fresh so can we make it 1-1 this time?
 
Pakistan are clear favorites. Bangladesh has heir own method of putting up a decent total against most sides in the world. Also they have bowlers who can bowl annoying line and length that can frusrate you into getting out. Some of these guys are veterans. Good at crunch moments. This is world cup. One off match. Any team can get into a panic mode.

Their WC victory against Pakistan was in 1999 and against India was in 2007 so you guys should be more worried you match against them instead of thinking about parosies.

Good thing is it’s at Lords. Best stadium in the world. Would’ve been better if it was at the Oval. But Lord’s is iconic and it should be a good game. Hoping it’s a high scoring, good batting wicket.

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since these two last met at the Cricket WC. That’s 4 WC’s they haven’t faced each other!

I don’t think this BD could care any less what records you have in the past against others in wc’s but head to head in the WC it’s 1-0 BD :). And since 2015 WC In ODI’s it’s 4-0.
 
To be really frank I wouldn't write them off. They have been good so far and can beat any side on their day. Pakistan aren't the greatest side either despite their win against England.

Yep. It has been since 2015 WC, BD had an easy series win against them 3-0, Asia Cup easy win in the end defending a low total. Those are calling Pak ‘clear favourites’ are just hyper after the win against England. But Still I’d say Pak ‘slightly fav’ due to being here longer playing ODI’s against Eng, more used to the conditions and have played at Lords many times. But BD has had good tour in Ireland, won 4 wins a row, good build up to WC then the excellent win against SA. Pak had 4 loses in a row build up to WC then their wc opener, then a brilliant win against England. It’s 50-50.
Hope it’s a sunny day, good batting wicket, Lord’s will be packed. Atmosphere should be great!

Can’t wait. Wish I could gone to watch it.
 
The thread title made it seem like we're under threat of a new streak :))) but yeah I do think we can win given that we're motivated and looking to win big. That NRR needs to drastically improve so we should look at these teams to boost our NRR.

Bangladesh looking dangerous side. Won't be easy push overs. Pakistan will have to work hard and bring their A game. BD could have been table topper by now had their keepr not messed that easy run out.

of course people would not remember, given how irrelevent to international cricket bangladesh has been, no one appears to remember that game.

That match looks suspicious. Unfortunately ICC didn't investigate that match. Had that match investigated lots of hidden truth would come out from rabbit hole. The performance of Anwar, Wasim, Malik was very dubious. Many of these members of that Pakistan team were accused of fixing according to Qayum commission so its not surprise to see this result. Specially bowler like Khaleed of Bangladesh. His fast bowling is even slower than Afridi/Kumble's spin.

Recent can be subjective, you can say even 5 days as recent however since world cup to world cup 4 years is a cycle which even Cricinfo considers in its stats so counting from last world cup , it hasn't been good readings for Pakistan. Taking a time span of 25 years is too long however as you might not have been even born when that time span started.

Out of those 4 ODIs, 3 were against a completely different Pakistan outfit at home right after CWC'2015. We pretty have much sorted out our team after T20WC 2016, at least we are good enough to beat minnows like you in a bilateral series 10/10 now. Anything can happen in tournaments, it has been 2-1 in favour of Bangladesh in recent times, but you should remember than both the games that Ban won were pretty close, while the game in WT20 was a lifetime lesson for Bangladesh.

The only thing Bangladesh Cricket has ever won is a the claim to the "realm of delusion". As far as this game is concerned, Pakistan start favourites, but anything can happen in a one-off game. Even Kenya has the ability to beat us once or twice, but that doesn't make them "world-beaters".

Your guys are lucky to have the likes of Shakib,Tamim, Mahmudullah, Mushfiq. Mashrafe, once they depart, the dearth in Ban will be clearly evident. None of your so-called young talents step up, and when these 4 guys are gone, it's going to be difficult.

I sincerely hope Ban are able to find some good young talent, honestly want you guys to succeed. The thing though about Bangladeshi fans is that they lack sportsman spirit. If you don't know how good you actually are, then I feel that chances of improvement are pretty slim.
 
BD are a very good, capable team.

Pakistan has had one win after 11 losses and suddenly the team has become 'the invincibles'.

In for a rude awakening if take this attitude to a must-win game.
 
Our fans overconfidence is a joke. It won't be an easy game. Bangladesh are a competitive team , if spin is going to play a part in the game they will believe they can win. We arent an elite team where we have the right to think we will walk over anyone.

Bangladesh also beat us in the Asia cup and in Bangladesh they will believe they can beat us.
 
BD have an edge. They defeated WI.. yes the WI which recently demolished the team which lost 4-0 and 5-0 before a sole victory by 14 runs.
BD spinners will strangle Pakistan while Fizz while slip in 2 wickets upfront.
If anything its BD batting that is bit of worry when chasing but then thats 50/50.
 
You guys never played each other in a wc beside the famous BD win? What was that match where BD made 300+ and Afridi chased it down? I kept on thinking it was a wc match

Haaha please don’t mention about that game. I recall it was one of Asia games. We were sure to win that game then Afridi started blitzing out of nowhere. Terrible game to remember.

Bangladesh didn't believe that they could ever win against Pakistan, until PCB decided to send young rookies, for a bilateral series in 2015.

One thing is for sure, even if bangs beat Pak or even India yet fails to reach the last 4, they will still won’t be taken seriously in cricket circle and will frustrate their fans.
It’s time for bang to do better than just few odd wins in major tour.
 
One Question to all PP, just because you were born in a country does it mean you need to support that country? It's just a sport, will it be a crime for let's say I support England over Bangladesh :butt

Even tho i was born in gujarat, always supported chennai superkings, but nationalism everywhere is too strong.people would often not support other teams due to what people around them supporting home team will think.

Theoretically in sport you can and should support any team you like:-) but thats not how it works.
 
People are taking Bangladesh too lightly. They are a strong team, especially if there is something for the spinners.

2 pretty evenly matched teams.
 
This game is ages away. Why are people so obsessed with this? Focus on each match.
 
The 1999 game was ridiculous. Watch those run outs again, it's like they weren't even trying.

Don't worry today's match will prove a wake up call to our batsmen. Also, BD's spin attack is weaker as compared to AFG & their pace attack not a threat to anyone. The only worry for us is shakib's & mushfiq's ability to chase big runs.
