"It's up to the coach and management [regarding selection], I gave them 100%" : Usman Salahuddin

Usman Salahuddin speaking after the match against Leicestershire:

"It was a good game for us before the Test series"

"For me it was my first game for Pakistan and I am happy that I got 50 runs"

"It's up to the coach and management, I gave them 100% in this practice game and the final decision [for my selection] is with the coach and the captain"

"All the bowlers have put in a good effort in this game ahead of the Lord's Test"

"It's exciting to play at Lord's as we are a young side"

"England are a very good Test team but we are working hard with the coaching staff"

"We have been here 1 month so are now used to these conditions so I don't think there will be any problems with these conditons"

"We are enjoying the large Pakistani crowds"

"Alhamdullilah, I'm feeling great, this was my first practice match and I gave a superb performance. I would like to thank God and especially the coaches who made me work hard for which I got the returns and scored 70 runs"

"I think we have adjusted to the conditions a lot as we have been here for a month already and have already played quite a few practice matches plus an Ireland Test match. I think the weather from the Leicester practice match would be the same as London and this practice match before the Lord's Test is really helpful for us"

The preparations have been going great, the boys have been putting in a lot of hard work, the coaching staff are making sure of that and the fielding sessions and net sessions have been going really well. The team environment is really good, all the guys are trying their best and Inshallah we will try our best to win the series"

He looked solid. Not sure if there is place for him in the line up right now.

Kar ke dekha diya na phir larkay nay?

Always back domestic performers. Sad he hasn't had a chance to bat in so long atleast Inzi has stuck with him, our selectors in yesteryears would have dropped him and left to rot in domestics.

Well it's between him and Haris Sohail isn't it.

At the moment it seems it's going to be Haris.

Haris seems like a lock at this point. Looks like the best Test batsmen in the lineup.

Maybe Babar will be great in Tests eventually but I'd like to see him taken out. He's been failing pretty consistently and doesn't have a dominant track record in FC either. I'd like to see Babar dominate FC first and make some adjustments.

if they're going to bring in an extra batsmen, I would much prefer it to be Farkhar

Usman is solid, but thats all he is... has seemed quite defensive and slow, Azhar-type player, lacking intent

The people calling for Babar to be axed make me laugh. Imagine if a prospect like Babar was rotting in domestics right now. The same posters would be screaming for the chief selector's head and accusing the selectors of being short-sighted and not knowing how to identify talent.

Babar just played a 4th innings match-winning knock along with Imam. I'm glad Inzy and Mickey are much more level-headed than some of the posters on this forum.

a sub 20 avg after 12 odd tests certainly makes his continued selection over more deserving batsman for this format highly questionable so get off your high horse.

Glad he got a score. Should get a chance soon with Haris poor fitness and Babar and Asad inconsistent test form.

Because of his fitness Haris will probably never score big. Whereas one can turn a blind eye towards it in ODI it is a serious concern in Tests.

Just like in the ODI's his body seems to give up after 70/80 balls and he plays more loose and release shots to get going.

Id take all our batsman facing 80 balls for these 2 games.
Haris will look the most comfortable doing it

That's the thing. Once we get better alternatives people will replace him. You would rather have someone who can score 150+ at 3 than someone who is done after a good looking fifty.

Bob Simpson told the Year 1 Class at the Academy that if they couldn’t score 350 in 1 day, they might as well pack their bags and leave now.

And that was in the early 90’s...

I think coming into this series it was 2 out of Babar, Haris and Usman.

Seems like Babar's second innings knock against Ireland saved him, whilst Haris looked good in the first innings versus Ireland.

Babar currently sports a 34.35 FC average and a whopping 2 hundreds in 71 innings.

He's an incredible LOI and the best we have in the country but he shouldn't even be on this Test team right now based on merit.

This!

Particularly when you have more deserving players around. If anything, a kick from the test squad may actually do him good. We all know what keeping someone in the squad for the sake of 'talent' has done to Asad Shafiq

A 50 from him and he says he gave his 100%. An Indian batsmen would be apologising for not scoring 100 as a minimum against a 2nd string county outfit!
