Wasim - Undisputed ATG bowler,
Kallis - Great batsman, For some people probably an ATG batsman as well + Decent pacer with 300 wickets in each format

Who is more valuable?

Who is rated more highly as a cricketer?

Wasim. He is GOAT. The greatest ever bowler only behind Marshall and McGrath.

Kallis as an all-rounder is only behind Sobers, Imran and Hadlee but ahead of Botham and Kapil and the rest. Cant say much about Keith Miller.

So, Wasim overall. A magician, a genius undoubtedly. Greatest player produced by Pakistan ever and the greatest ODI bowler ever.

2 different players with different roles so the comparison doesn't make sense. Most people will have kallis as their no:3 and Wasim as no:8, so really trivial comparison.

I wonder whether Kallis's second discipline will come into the picture here being compared with Akram's second discipline, 292 Test wickets and 273 ODI wickets. Usually Imran's second discipline of a mercurial 6 Test centuries and an average of 37 is usually brought up by a lot of fans while comparing him with Sachin.

Can't compare two different players. It's like comparing Brian Lara with Shane Warne

Wasim akram is the GOAT.He would be first name on my sheet whether it's Odis or tests. He is the most talented cricketer of all time.

Not a proper comparison as they were different type of players with different roles.

If I still had to pick one, I would go with Wasim

Who is more valuable? Depends on what position do you want them to bat!

Who is rated more highly? Depends who you ask to.

:yk

Baaz aa jao bjaijaan aap!

Wrong sort of comparison but if I had to pick one I’d get Kallis - excellent batter, capable third seamer and brilliant slip catcher.

But if you asked me to chose between Kallis and Imran I’d pick Imran.

If we compare Kallis and Sachin and include Kallis’ second decipline, wont he be far ahead of Tendulkar as well?

Yes, he would be. Won't it be the same while comparing Kallis with any other ATG batsman or bowler as well?

Wasim easily. With due respect, Kallis was a pure dud in ODIs, and Wasim is arguably the GOAT ODI bowler.

Wasim Akram.

One of the greatest bowlers of all time who was a magician with the ball. He could bat as well.

A lot of sides would take Akram over Kallis.

Wasim
Imran
Kallis

That is overall. However, if it was between Kallis and Waqar, Kallis gets the nod.

For me its Waz. A match winner on his day. Wasim is arguably an all time great in cricket and Pakistan's greatest ever cricketer ever produce.

Kallis is the greatest test cricketer from 90s and onward.

If he were from SC, he would have temples & palaces made in his honor.

First comment is debatable.

Second one is just delusional. Kallis with very few stand out performances would have never veen a RAGE in subcontinent or anywhere else. Dravid, Sangakkara are examples. Great stats but no where nearthe hype of Tendulkar, Kohli. Dravid is an Indian and even he is not revered as MADLY as even Dhoni let alone Tendulksr whos popularity in India is Godesque.

Eh, I don't see anybody in tests post-90s coming close to Kallis as overall cricketer. He has higher batting average than Tendulkar, more runs than Ponting, and comparable bowling average to Zaheer Khan. Tendulkar, Lara, Murali, Warne, McGrath, Ponting were all specialists in tests.

That's laughable. Kallis is a boring, boring accumulator. Couldn't capture the imagination of the fans his entire career. He was someone who quitely went around doing his job with most fans not taking notice. Sub-continent fans never really celebrate such players much. Dravid has over 13,000 Test runs with 36 centuries. Yet, he is not even 1/10th as celebrated by Indian fans compared to someone like Dhoni.

Dravid is well revered by his peers and the hardcore fans, but he has little popularity amongst the mass. Not surprising since general public loves LOIs more where Dravid was very average (compared to othe greats).

People seriously underestimate Kallis. The guy has 45 hundreds!!! 58 half centuries and overall 13289 test runs at 55.37 that itself is enough to be labelled all time great.

On top of that he has 292 test wickets at 32.65. And he was no spinner, but a proper fast bowler.

Has 200 test catches as well to Wasim 44.

Wasim is an all time great as well, but I would take Kallis in tests any day of the week.

Wasim on the other hand get's the nod in 50 overs cricket.

Dravid, Kallis, Sangakkara are all in the same boat. Spectacular records but for obvious reasons were never the rage among fans.

Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting, Kohli are the 4 batsmen that i felt set the cricket world on fire from the time i started watching cricket.

Nothign against players with great or even equally great stats but its just the way some players do it and carry themselves that just makes them larger than life characters.

Comments like this truly show lack of knowledge about the game..

Aesthetics don't win you the game; batting or bowling performances do. Fact that Kallis averaged 50+ with bat, took almost 300 wickets and if this isn't enough he is one of the greatest slip-fielders the game has known. He bowled those 10-15 overs in an inning which helped the bowlers like Donald and Steyn to get enough rest and and then come back to strike the opposition.

Kallis' contribution is enormous. He was crucial along with Steyn in SA not loosing the away series for a decade something far more impressive than anything other greats of his era achieved.

And LOL at Dravid comment! I love him as a player but how many wickets did he take? The comparison with Kallis is laughable..

And where exactly did you see me deny any of the things you have written? My point was specifically about your claims of how Kallis would have been worshipped if he were from the subcontinent. Learn to understand the context of my argument.

I will take Jacques Kallis with both hands. I love Wasim and he is my favourite player from Pakistan and he is a legend but Kallis will solve lots of issues in the current Indian side. I would take his boring hundred in difficult conditions than anything right now. A bowler who can bowl the heavy ball and do the dirty work and a batter who will be difficult to dislodge is what the Indian team needs on the overseas tours. If given an option I will take both but if I had to choose just one, it will be Kallis.

Weird comparison though as one is a ATG all rounder and the other is ATG bowler.

Kallis would have been worshiped because he would captured the imagination of people through sheer weight of his numbers..

If that were the case, Dravid would have been an exremely celebrated batsman in India. He is not, although he is very highly regarded. The reason is because of the way he played his game, much like Kallis. Fans from the subcontinent are never fascinated by boring players. They can have all the numbers and yet the fans won't care much unless they have the ability to entertain and dominate. Kallis was just as dull to watch as Dravid. Both were good enough to put people to sleep, although were valuable to their team. I won't blame you, you don't know much about the cricket culture here.

Kallis > Wasim for much of the same reasons that Imran > Sachin. However, the former is a lot closer because Imran is slightly ahead of Kallis while Wasim and Sachin are both on par with each other.

I will second everything you said. Good post.

😂 Never. Even SA cricketers like AB devilles is much more popular than Kallis in India. Lance Klusener was more popular in India than Kallis in his days. His bowling would have been ineffective in Indian conditions. He would be another Rahul Dravid.

Assalam Walekum bro.

Please add a poll.

Thanks.

No. Wasim and Sachin are no way at par.

Sachin is undoubtedly the best batsman of his time across both formats.

Wasim isn't even the best fast bolwer of his time, let alone the best bowler.

Sachin's bowling peer is Muralidharan (or McGrath if we are restricting ourselves to just pacers). Not Wasim Akram.

Kallis is underrated in the test format here. To put it in perspective,

Kallis VS IK - All rounder Rating trend in the test format.

allrounder.jpg

Thread is not about IK, but since IK is rated very high in PP as an all rounder, so just putting all round contribution of IK and Kallis side and side.

Kallis is likely to be ahead of anyone else in the last 30 years as cricketer in the test format.

Wasim would be the first name in my all time XI. There was literally nothing he couldn't do with the bowl and being a left hander gives me that extra advantage as well. He is someone who not only will amaze you with his bowling but inspires you as well. The greatest bowler to have come from Pakistan all formats combined.
