Not really, he's a journeyman cricketer that has languished in South African domestic cricket for too long. To be fair, I like him in the white ball formats and he should have been given a consistent chance in the ODI side 4-5 years ago. But he's not a test number 3 by any stretch of the imagination.

Think he is genuinely good, has good stats in domestic, got a 100 vs AUS in his 2nd ODI as well, performed well in Mzansi.

Hes good to watch as well, a very good prospect for South Africa.

I’ve heard “next ABD” in the last week about Markram, Malan, Dussen, and de Kock.

How is a team with 4 AB de Villiers ranked 5-6 across formats? Please show the guy some respect, not every guy can be the next AB - that guy was an absolute icon.

Van der Dussen is a solid batsman, if anything they should be looking at Malan to replace Bavuma, ofcourse that would mean Malan batting at 3 and Dussen moving down to 4

He should really be batting in the top 3 for South Africa in tests, he's too talented to be pigeonholed as a white ball specialist. With du Plessis's retirement there's a vacancy in the batting order as well.

First time I've seen him live today.

Looks a composed batsman. Played some beautifully timed shots through off and legside, looked good on front and backfoot, and rotated strike well against the spinners. It was a belter of a pitch yes, but definitely a bright prospect.
