Jasprit Bumrah and Harmanpreet Kaur have had an astounding career thus far for India. Bumrah is widely recognized as one of the best old-ball bowlers, while Harmanpreet s exploits with the bat surpasses all her contemporaries. Now Forbes India has named the duo in their 30 under 30 list. They are the only cricketers to be named in the list, which has other sports personalities Heena Sidhu and Savita Punia.

Earlier, according to Forbes, Kohli (N0.7) had gone past Argentina and FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi(No.9) as the most valuable athlete in the world.

This should have been the headline!

How is this possible :amir3

The 29-year-old Indian star player is placed at the seventh spot with a brand value of $14.5 million, compared to Messi's $13.5 million.

Apparently he earns $500,000 per instagram post to boot!

At the peak of his fame post 2011 WC triumph, Dhoni's endorsement income touched approx. 30 million USD a year. That would be the benchmark for Kohli.

Pretty sure Kohli has reached it.

Messi earns around $50 million per year currently afaik.

Im not sure how this works.

One thing to note is that Messi doesnt really endorse or care to endorse a lot of products.

Ronaldo is the real boss in this regard

Forbes calculates the brand value of an athlete by subtracting the average income of the top 10 athletes in the same sport from the total earnings of that athlete, excluding salary and bonus from their sport and all investment income. Forbes calculates Kohli's brand value at US $14.5 million, a million dollars more than the No. 9 Messi, and $22.7m short of the biggest brand among athletes in sport, Roger Federer. In other words, Kohli's endorsements earn him $14.5m more than the average endorsement income of the top 10 cricketers. Despite a major dip in their brand value over the last year, golfers Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods were in the top six.

Honestly this measure is pointless in money terms. Compared to cricketers obviously the top cricketer will relatively earn a lot more than his peers than the top footballer since there is simply much more money in football.

https://www.forbes.com/athletes/list/3/#tab:overall

Messi ($160mn) is #3 and Kohli ($44mn) is #89

Shows 80M and 22M to me on that link why does it show double to you?

Anyways how does t work? Even if messi is relevant for half the time VK would be for messi will still our earn him by a decent enough distance..

Maybe they are projecting growth in Indian economy in next 10 years resulting in kohli getting higher sums in future which may increase his overall earnings considerably?

What does most valuable athlete means anyways?

Ahh ok makes sense.. Well tbh Kohli value will only increase I guess in top 10 Dhoni is probably earning very high still once he retires his value might drop and kohli’s Increase so that will increase the average even more..

What I found stunning is that a retired Tendulkar made 13 million USD in 2015 from endorsements.

Yep, shows the same to me with Ronaldo at the top on $93M, but even these figures are dwarfed by Mayweather's reputed earnings of $300M in 2015. :sharif
