Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury [Update #68]

in a way j srinath was the best workhorse besides ishant we have ever seen

dont think bumrah injury is due to ipl .its part and parcel of game

his injury is primarily cos our selectors are not rotating fast bolwers enough

-guys like saini, krishna, porel , kuldeep sen needed to be played in nonsense bilaterals . proven guys like boom need to be played in showcase events , tests abroad and important billaterals .

its ok. bumrah has not done well in icc tournaments . it might be a blessing to get siraj who in my opinion might be well suited for aussie

I would have agreed with you but that is not the case with Bumrah. How many matches did he play in the last 2 seasons of IPL? :inti

Jasprit Bumrah and its comparison with some of his contemporaries:-

Jasprit Bumrah 319 wickets @22.48
Pat Cummins 370 wickets @23.96
Mohammad Shami 386 wickets @26.95
Mohammad Amir 259 wickets @28.14

Conclusion:

Bumrah > Cummins > Shami> Amir :inti

Don’t think Bumrah would be averaging 22 if he had been banned from cricket for 5 years.

Don't think Bumrah would have done anything like that to get banned :inti

If Bumrah was 17, the most vulnerable player in the team and Kohli along with Shami had told him to bowl some no balls for 50k then i’m pretty sure he’d have done it. (That’s if there was no IPL as well)

People using Amir’s stats don’t take into consideration how hard it is to get back into the game after a 5 year break.

how did amir get into this? and what is the point of cross format stats?

The no of matches in all formats stats was shown to highlight the fact that Bumrah has already picked good chunk of wickets and created impact in his short career till now, i.e., over 300 wickets.

This just shuts the argument that he barely plays international cricket and mostly cares about IPL. Now everyone is not a workhorse and neither is Bumrah. But he definitely plays all the important games and especially vs major teams when he is fit which is why he is already sitting in the 300 wickets club bowlers across all formats and has a good number of years left ahead of him.

Shami who is four years older than him, has just about 70 wickets more. Amir whose international career is over, ended with lesser wickets than Bumrah and Cummins also doesn't have a lot many wickets more than him.

It is not necessary that if BCCI schedules 50 T20I games in an year then Bumrah must play 40-45 of those because the scheduling done by then is for the second string team also to compete. :inti

That's desperation of the highest order!

Too many imponderables.

"We Hurried With Jasprit Bumrah...See What Happened": BCCI Chief Selector Chetan Sharma On Injured Pacer

BCCI Chief Selector Chetan Sharma on Monday announced Team India's squads for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand and ODI and Test series against Bangladesh. However, speedster Jasprit Bumrah has not been named in any of the squads and Chetan explained how the selection committee is managing the workload of Bumrah and he also accepted that the ace pacer was rushed from injury for the T20 World Cup.

It is important to note that Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back injury and as his replacement, Mohammed Shami was named in the squad for the tournament.

"Definitely, I say it every time that we have to manage the players and when we do that, the media ends up writing about how different players are playing in the lineup with different captains. We have to manage the workload. We hurried up with Jasprit Bumrah a bit, we tried as the World Cup was coming and see what happened. We are without Jasprit Bumrah for this World Cup," said the chief selector while replying to an NDTV question during a virtual press conference.

"The NCA and medical team are looking after him very well and he definitely will be a part of the team very soon. For the Bangladesh series, we are just a little cautious, we are not hurrying him up. I request the media to understand that there is a reason behind resting players. No selector is fond of changing the teams and captains. But there is so much cricket, we have to keep looking after the bodies of our players. Bumrah will be back soon, NCA is working alongside him," he stated further.

One notable omission from the white-ball squads is right-handed batter, Prithvi Shaw. The batter has been in the mixed form of late, registering scores of 6,10,32,19,134,29 and 55 in his last seven T20s while playing for Mumbai. He was also in good form in the series against New Zealand A and while playing for India A in a one-day match, he scored 77 runs as well.

"We basically are looking at Prithvi and we are in touch with him. He is doing very well, there is nothing wrong with him at all. We have to look at the setup in terms of players who have been playing before him, the guys who are performing are getting their chances. He will definitely get his chance with the way he has been batting. Selectors are in constant touch with him," said Chetan.

Former Indian cricket team batsman Mohammad Kaif has expressed his concern over Jasprit Bumrah's road to recovery following injury concerns and questioned the VVS Laxman-led National Cricket Academy (NCA) over the lack of ‘transparency” over his expect time of return. Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022 and his back injury resulted in him missing the Asia Cup as well as the ODI World Cup. The fast bowler is currently recovering from the injury but nothing is clear about his availability for the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023.

“I have noticed faults in the system. Players have gotten picked in the squad, and then pulled out before the match citing they weren't fully fit. This happened to Bumrah recently and even Mohammad Shami has done this a couple of times,” Kaif told Sportskeeda.

“So the NCA trainers, physios, VVS Laxman and his team have to take care of these situations. Because it is unfair on the fans of cricket who are expecting Bumrah to play the next day. I feel this is a very serious matter and the management shouldn't take it lightly,” he added in the interaction.

Kaif went on to say that the absence of Bumrah has been a sad affair for the cricket fans and asked for a definitive update from the NCA along with administrators when it comes to the fast bowler.

“There should be transparency and players should be tested properly before being declared fit. There shouldn't be any grey area left; a player is either fit or more 10-20 days will be needed. As a Bumrah fan, I want to know what injury he has, what is his recovery time, etc. So they should address this transparency bit and put forth the exact matter,” he concluded.

From BCCI release today:

Mr Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Mr Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Friday.
