it looks like Teams don't want similar steady players.Joe root can play as a opener or no.3 at best similar to amla who also got unsold.I have a feeling his base price of Rs 2 crore was way too high considering he have no IPL experience
They already have Smith and rahane.I think kkr will pick root or amla as opener.Rajasthan royals miss a trick. They have to get Rooooot.
The worst possible outcome for Root. First he sells his "soul" for the IPL and then remains unsold!
Those old fogeys of the MCC and YCCC won't like this one bit. First he tries to cross the line to join the devils, but the devils don't want him.
What's he gonna do?!
Serves Root right. He ditches national duties for the sake of a mercenary league, and then is unsold.
Even if Root decides to play Tri-series, his own decision will undermine him and he will forever be known as captain U-Turn.
Even without the IPL he still has a pretty crazy schedule and it would make sense for him to take a break like any other all formats player is.
Joe Root needs to take a leaf out of Pakistan's book.
You don't need IPL experience to be #1 in T20s.
In hindsight, he should've played the Tri Series, then rested, ready for Pakistan in England - but no, he went for money instead.
Is it official that he's unsold or is the auction still going on?
Morgan never did justice to his talent and hardly played any match winning innings in his ipl career. Its official now, the auctions is over. Now, his only chance of making an IPL is if some overseas player pulls out and he get signed as an replacement. More than Root, im surprised no one picked Morgan
In Hindi there is Muhaavraa that completely describes this Joe root thing :
Dhobi ka kutta, na ghar ka na ghaat ka
What a gentle soul he is. It's disappointing to see this rejection. Root should have been picked. He has all the shots and was great in the T20I WC in India
Root is a good T20 player, better than Williamson. So surprised that teams did not pick him up.
Dont think his skill levels are the reason for his exclusion. ECB still are stubborn and are scheduling matches which clash with IPL and he is England's captain and first choice player in all formats.

Maybe but Stokes got picked. Root is clearly better than a lot of players in IPL. It's his response after not getting picked shows how classy he is. Being one of the best batsmen in the world should have hurt his ego but look at his poise
Stokes is an all-format first choice player as well for England. So the scheduling is not the problem. The franchises just did not go for him which is sad as he is a very good T20 player.
Was he picked at PSL?
He is too big a name to play in the PSL.
Misleading thread title, Root just just dissapointed for not attracting any buyer.
is not lamenting IPL as wrong title suggests, may get picked next year

Title is from The Guardian's article.
IMO he should settle with whatever he can get. If getting T20 practice and not the money is all he wants then he should make himself available for CPL, PSL, BPL etc.
If Root was Australian or Indian then he would've been picked for atleast 1 million dollar.
It was really surprising to know he went unsold in the IPL. If he played, he would have been the integral part of that team.
Elite players like Root etc. should not devalue themselves by playing in third rate stuff like the PSL, BPL etc. These competitions are beneath them.
Apart from Williamson, which other intl foreign players that got picked in IPL are inferior to Root? I mean not in avg but overall strokeplay and ability to accelerate?
Players with ability to hit big and play a cameo are often picked in IPL compared to ones who can anchor. Why waste 200K on a player who at best will play anchoring when you can buy someone upcoming who can play aggressively at same price or even cheaper. Beside, for anchoring they can always replace with domestic player which are in huge numbers.
I even predicted before the auctions that there is high chances of Root going unsold and it did came true.
It is true that Root doesn't have aggressiveness and acceleration of runs like ABD, Gayle, Kohli, Warner or BMac but I still think he is atleast better than Rahane, Smith or Kane in that aspect and not to forget he is a highly consistent performer.
He scored a very quickfire inning vs SA (80 odd of 40-45 balls)while chasing 200 odd in WT20 in India. I think given that he is at his peak days, he could have definitely made difference atleast in terms of consistency to any team. Someone like Kallis was picked in IPL not because he was flashy but he would get the runs flowing from one end most of the times.

That one inning against SA was fluke. I watched the match and some of his shots were edge flying over keeper. He was basically throwing everything at the ball and hoping some connects.
What a load or rubbish.
My point exactly while watching Root bat in T20s![]()
"Joe Root isn't a good choice because he's not aggressive enough".
"Oh yeah that incredible innings was a fluke because he played aggressively, even if he middled it 98% of the time".
Right...
Yes when a good player plays in the PSL he loses respect in the cricket circuit all over the world. Players like B.mac, Sanga, KP, Imran Tahir amongst others are 3rd class cricketers who have achieved nothing in their careers and are naive for playing in a good cricketing league which pays them well for participating.
God knows what fuels your desire to defame anything pakistan-related on these forums.
Root has scored just 1 100 and a 91* score in his last 36 innings across all formats. He definitely needs to play IPL to improve his pressure game like Buttler.
