PCB constitutes selection committee for age-group trials

Lahore, 30 January 2023:

The Pakistan Cricket Board has named an eight-member selection committee, which will conduct U13, U16 and U19 trials for the selection of regional and district teams.

Former Test wicketkeeper/batter Kamran Akmal has been appointed as the chair, while other members of the panel are Sohail Tanvir, Amir Nazir, Taimoor Khan, Junaid Khan, Faisal Athar, Qaisar Abbas, Sanaullah Baloch.

Each selector, along with head coach of the region/district, will conduct trials according to the schedule, which will be announced in due course.

Kamran Akmal played 268 international matches, while Sohail Tanvir represented Pakistan in 121 matches. Amir Nazir played six Tests and nine ODIs from 1993 to 1995, Junaid Khan appeared in 107 international matches for Pakistan, Faisal Athar played in an ODI in 2003 and Qaiser Abbas played in a Test against England in 2000. Sanaullah Baloch and Taimoor Khan are former first-class cricket.

Does this mean that the likes of Junaid Khan, Sohail Tanvir have retired?

I'd heard Yasir Hameed was being lined up for a role. Must have been a change of mind by PCB.

Kamran Akmal comes across as a shrewd and smart guy. One of those appearance can be deceptive types. I mean that in a good way.

Good luck to him.

I am always in favour of fresh faces. Kamran Akmal has played a lot of domestic cricket therefore he should be familiar with domestic players. Here is his opportunity to make a difference to Pakistan Cricket

I'm expecting a lot of 'mere zamanay mai...' speeches from Kami towards these kids. Let's see how this goes, hopefully the right things are being taught at a younger age so that these kids rise up the ranks more better developed.

Mere zamanay mai catch pakarney pe cake katta jatha tha. Catch chorna tau roze ka kaam tha meera. Yaad rakna larko, wicket keeper gloves par saboon zaroor mal na :))

Has Kamran "give me 2 chances to prove myself" even retired yet from intnl cricket?

The akmals should be knowhere near the PCB. Remeber when he refused to play coz hus brother wasn't gonna be selected? Also his involvement with the 2010 scandal was murky..

He was a horrible keeper and a useless batter other than the early years..mental midget too..a reminder to us of an era when we had sone very poor journeymen cricketers..

Shahid Afridi speaking on TV:

"Kamran is honest and hard-working. I think he is a good choice to select players at the junior level. He is bold and will not take any pressure in selection of players"
