I've come to the conclusion after thinking a lot and hear me out before people start saying Doc has started smoking weed.

Look at our lineup.

Imam
Fakhar
Babar

Imam is slow and he is a good building batsmen but if he has to chase let's say 300 plus, he will not be able to give the innings the impetus.

I know people are gaga over Fakhar, but Fakhar will ALWAYS give ONE CHANCE before he scores anything. Yesterday, Amla could have clinged on to that one, and Pakistan would be 30 or 40 runs even shorter. So Fakhar is bit of hit and miss.

Babar is the only batsmen who can score and build, but he will not switch gears till he reaches his century.

So we have 3 okay to good batsmen, and I find that we have to accept them.

The problem really starts from 4.

Sarfraz/Rizwan
Shadab

These 4 batsmen even on their best day might not do enough to be world beaters.

Yesterday when Pakistan was 120 in 24 odd overs, I had not even ONE iota of confidence that Pakistan would be able to construct a good score.
I mean if you want to play those 4, you might as well play someone who will give you faster pace and score the same 20 or 30 odd runs.

Are you telling me that Umar and Kamran can't score 7-10 runs like Shadab did ?

So here would be my team for the World Cup

Fakhar /Kamran
Imam
Babar
Umar(batsmen)
Kamran /Fakhar
Sarfraz
Imad
Genuine spinner (find one .. shadab aint the answer).
Hasan
Shaheen
Amir (or find another bowler because Amir is not clicking).


I'd back this team to win more times than the team playing Hafeez, Malik and Shadab in 4 5 and 6 positions.

Sarfraz shouldn't ideally be playing, but we have no choice because Rizwan was terrible in his limited chances.

Absolutely we should also bring back Khurram,Shehzad to replace Babar and Imam.Iftikhar Ahmad should replace Imad.

I know you're being sarcastic but Khurram and Shehzad are worse batsmen than Babar and Imam.

So in your educated opinion, a 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Malik, Hafeez, Shadab, Rizwan/Sarfraz is superior to a 4,5, 6 and 7 of Umar, Kamran, Sarfraz, Imad?

There’s no reason to give a chance to Kamran again, especially with Sarfraz in the team. Kamran is a terrible fielder as showed in the WI series.

Rather give a chance to the likes of Saud, Saad, Kushdil. Young guys deserve chances and an experience like the WC will do wonders for the youngsters.

Umar Akmal still has a chance in the team but he needs to get mentally and physically fit first.
 
If we were to change the team, I would go with something like this:

Doc, have you followed Kamran and Umar's domestic performances? I mean why just them? Why not someone else? We know they are mental midgets and umar akmal in particular has regular brainfades. Why go through all the drama again?

Because they have higher Strike rates and can do what Hafeez, Malik , Rizwan or Shadab can do at a better pace.

My point is not that they are gonna suddenly turn into world beaters.

But do you expect the same to happen for Malik, Hafeez, Rizwan or Shadab? The 4 we played in the middle order yesterday?

This team doesn't have a 6th bowler. You need Malik or Hafeez in for Kamran. Umar is not a bad inclusion.

He is good for t20 leagues
Umar needs to perform in PSL to get place in T20 squad first
 
Refer to thread where people wanted get rid of Malik and Hafees before WC and I replied they aint going anywhere. In fact the former omitted players will come back and here we go...
 
I would bring back Afridi and Razzak too - just think of that firepower in the last 10 overs with Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Afridi and Razzak.. awesome foursome.

Absolutely our middle order of Malik, Hafeez, Shadab, Rizwan/Sarfraz is better than one you suggested.If you think otherwise just look at Asia cup.Umar I have seen enough to know he will bottle just like in last series in Australia.Kamran is overage and got his 3 chances.

But then Afridi doesn't play international cricket anymore and Razzak has retired.

We are talking about players still playing.
 
Umar can only come back if he has a stellar PSL and he is mentally tuned in and professionalism levels are high.
Then again part of me thinks he has had 2 world cups already!
 
Too late for any changes, kamran is million years old now and umar akmal does not have a (cricketing) brain in him.

I think hafeez should be used wisely as an accelerator in the final 20 overs , thats where he and imad wasim can bring some quick useful runs for pakistan. For now , pakistan will have to persist with sarfraz ahmed but not as a captain.

I will have this batting order.

Babar
Malik
Hafeez
Sarfraz (sarfraz needs to play at 6)
Imad
Shadab

Hafeez can be used at 4 if pakistan loses 2nd wicket after 30th over.

Hassan and abbas should be in the squad , there are way too many left handed bowlers at the moment. Abbas can be good with the new duke ball but I am not sure how he will bowl with the old ball in the middle and death overs.

Shinwari and shaheen opening is not good for pakistan , both are inexperienced , Abbas/amir and shaheen can open the bowling for pakistan. Hassan or amir can be first change depending who is playing.

The three fast bowlers combination should be tried in the next series against australia.

First match : Abbas , shaheen and hassan
2nd match : Abbas , amir and shinwari
3rd match : Amir , shaheen and shinwari.

In my opinion though pakistan should always keep one right handed quick in the side.

What I am saying is they will play faster and score the same runs as Malik or Hafeez.

We don't need them or their fat bellies wobbling around the pitch. Need to look forward instead of the failures of the past. Especially players like the Akmals, Salman Butt, Ahmed Shehzad, etc. None of these guys will improve the team but they will disrupt and bring politics and factions back into the squad.
 
Hafeez isn't our problem.

He's our most free flowing batsman and strikes the ball with utmost ease, sheer timing.

But yes we do have other accumulators.

Kamran and Umar both can clean hit pacers and also rely on timing / stroke making.

Can be good choices. Especially Umar, kami might not have the reflexes anymore.

Of course, most people aren't gonna look at that and will blindly object to your proposal.
 
So we should get rid of mediocre middle order consisted of Hafeez, Shoaib and Sarfraz and bring the worst possible middle order consisted of Umar, Kamran and Sarfraz.

These were some good performers in Batting in Quaid-e-Azam Cup One Day 2018/19.

They might not be world beaters, they might fail at international level, but giving opportunities to the players who show some potential at domestic level is the only way to progress.
 
Umar Akmal needs to be drafted into the squad that’ll face Australia, Kamran Akmal as an out-fielder or even as a wicket keeper HELL NA.

We were literally toyed with by the SA bowlers, all they did was bowl short and our batsmen had no clue what to do with it.

We need someone who can counter attack the opposition when they’re all over us, Umar Akmal who has experience at the international level is the only player who’s capable of doing that.

Some people want Saud Shakeel etc coming in, they’ve forgotten that this is the WC, it’s not the time to experiment with new players, we’ve seen that Umar Akmal can take on the best bowlers, and that’s what we need.

I agree with you on Umar Akmal and if Rizwan isn't good enough, then perhaps give the gloves to him. The extra spot vacated should be used to fill a better batsman than Kamran Akmal, like Shan Masood (or Haris Sohail if he recovers in time for the WC).

Congrats Dr. - you have completed the denial to agreement cycle, earlier than I predicted. It’s just the beginning - only SAF series has ended. Wait for few months, by Australia series more or less everyone will join .... after England series, everyone will demand.

His hundred came against afghanistan and his 3 fifties came against west indies and srilanka. He failed spectacularly against every other team. After ouster from the team he has not done anything in domestic to earn back his place. So why exactly should he be back?

Please don't bring Akmal brothers back in international setup. Babar, Imam and Fakhar are doing allright. I am more surprised with the performance of Mohammad Amir after his comeback. His bowling has never looked threatening except few matches. I expected amir to run through SA in test series. For someone, who was compared to great Wasim Akram, i think it is safe to say that he as underperformed. Is it due to playing mostly in UAE patta pitches?
 
I think Umar akmal is the key for Pakistan and he must open along with Fakhar. They both will provide the best start possible and later others can capitalize on it.
Even Asif Ali should be brought back for lower order hitting.

Stats, previous form, disciplinary issues, fitness are all irrelevant.
Just splash some green lipstick on his lips and hand him a bat and he will deliver.
Him and Kamran can take turns wicket keeping too.
 
If you need to send an emergency SOS for someone like Kamran and Umar then the patient is probably already dead.

consistently we'll never be good, we will be an average team... always have been.

Shadab and Imad are interchangeable at 7 and 8, Sarfaraz is in both lists. So really you're asking if Malik and Hafeez are better than Umar and Kamran. And the answer is, absolutely without a shadow of a doubt.

Malik and Hafeez have been average throughout their career but they are several levels above Kamran who has failed miserably and averages in the 20 after hundreds of games. It's not like his strike rate is amazing and let's not even talk about his fielding. For Umar, he was handled pretty badly by management but regardless of the reasons, he was on a downward trend the last few years before he was dropped. His fitness is atrocious and his attitude is worse. Using his previous record to justify his inclusion is akin to using Nasir Jamsheds.
 
Shan must play instead Malik(if he is out of form) or Hafeez (if he does not deliver with the ball), we are desperate short of a power batsmen and I can't think of any who can play that role.

but we've had numerous captains since 2009 and our issues were more or less the same.

rizwan, albeit it was one ODI, failed to impress...i was thinking he had improved but he looked like the same player from the 2017 aus series...which means sarfraz ain't going anywhere

after the world cup i'm thinking babar azam but he doesn't really seem like captaincy material... has he captained in domestic?
 
Also need to find a place for Adnan Akmal in there.

Together with Babar, they can be the four musketeers.

Umar Akmal support is based on a perception that some day he'll come good, even though after 116 ODIs we've seen his limitations.

We all saw how Kamran fared in 2017 in WI.

Move on, there are cricketers from other families in Pakistan other than the Akmal family.

For the WC the options I see are:

Hafeez - If PCB insist going for a senior player, then he's the best out of him and Malik
Imad - Best choice
Fakhar
Amir
Malik - but isn't good enough to make the XI on merit

The issue also with picking a captain out of Imad, Fakhar and Amir is the fact they've never led the side and since we're so near the WC, can we really afford to be experimenting on a series by series basis. Having said that, I would rather take the risk with Imad who has a cool head, good cricketing brain and can be trusted to stay away from controversy. He also leads by example with his selfless batting lower down the order.

As for post WC it's very difficult to say because I'm not sure if Amir, Fakhar and Imad will be around for the next WC given they're all around 30. It's vital PCB select a long term option rather than experiment with short term choices, so Babar might be the best way to go as he'll most likely still be around by then, however I agree he doesn't seem captaincy material because he isn't a natural leader.

I think Rizwan deserves more opportunities before we write him off. I think he has a lot more to offer than what we saw yesterday having seen his stats for Pakistan A of late, but I could be wrong.

And for the record, he has already proved his ability, credentials against the top sides and top bowlers in fast bowling conditions.

Another story he went on a decline and was poorly managed afterwards.

Was watching some old Umar Akmal highlights and just remembering how good and how much of an impact player he was, an in form umar akmal would fit in perfect in our side, imagine a steady player like Barbar Azam batting along an impact player like Umar Akmal. Unfortunately it seems Umar’s worst enemy is himself as it seems that when he was batting really well he did not want to improve and thought he was untouchable. Sadly his work ethic has really let him down
 
Even Bring on Shahid Afridi or Misbah ul Haq.

The fact remains that we just are not good enough. This world cup format could expose us badly. There is no fluke possible.
 
Kami is one of the best domestic opener in Pakistan and recently scored a 200 too i guess but problem is he cant keep nor field.

English conditions would have been ideal for him but he is too old now and was not in our WC plans.
 
On one side Kami has worked hard and still working hard but on other side Umar Akmal is the opposite. Has become a tulla and has fall down quite a bit.
