Karachi Kings (167/3) hammer Multan Sultans (101 all out) by 66 runs in Match 14 of PSL 8

Crushing bezti defeat of Multan Sultans. Exposed brutally outside their backyard

Karachi Kings spin trio today against Multan Sultans:

11.3 - 68 - 8 (30 dot balls)

I thought MS should have put KK under pressure and attacked, but once Shan was out they went into their shell.

Karachi Kings proved to be too good for Multan Sultans at their home as thumped the visitors by 66 runs at the National Bank Cricket Arena on Sunday evening. Multan Sultans, playing their first match out of Multan, were all out for a paltry 101 in 16.3 overs after they were set 168 to win.

Tayyab Tahir had a fantastic HBL Pakistan Super League debut as the right-hander scored 65 off 46 (eight fours and a six) after Mohammad Rizwan inserted Karachi Kings.

Tayyab, who earned a maiden call up in Pakistan’s ODI squad for a series against New Zealand in January, put a solid 109-run partnership with Matthew Wade, who scored 46 off 47.

Both were dismissed by Ihsanullah (two for 22), while Anwar Ali removed James Vince (27 off 12) as Karachi Kings made 167 for three.

The second half of the match was dominated by Karachi Kings’ spinners as Shoaib Malik (three for 16), Tabraiz Shamsi (three for 18) and Imad Wasim (two for 34) took eight wickets, while left-arm pacer Akif Javed took two wickets for eight.

The partnership of 41 between Shan Masood (25 off 16) and Mohammad Rizwan (29 off 25) was the only positive for Multan Sultans. The fall of the former in the fifth over sparked a collapse which no batter below the order could arrest.

Multan Sultans remain at the top of the points table with four wins and two defeats in six matches. Karachi Kings now have two wins from six matches and move to third, ahead of Lahore Qalandars because of a better net run rate.

Scores in brief:

Karachi Kings 167-3, 20 overs (Tayyab Tahir 65, Matthew Wade 46, James Vince 27; Ihsanullah 2-22)

Multan Sultans 101 all out, 16.3 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 29, Shan Masood 25; Shoaib Malik 3-16, Tabraiz Shamsi 3-18, Akif Javed 2-8, Imad Wasim 2-34)

Player of the match – Tayyab Tahir (Karachi Kings)

With a bit of game awareness & luck Karachi could have been comfortably sitting on top of the table right now. One thing for sure,if Imad doesn't get recalled & Nawaz keeps getting preferred over him then all the accusations against Babar will be proven true. Not to forget an utter trash like Qadir has also been in the squad.

Imad Wasim: The crowd has been superb so far. We hoped to play more in Karachi but unfortunately this is our last game here. If we bowl and bat according to our plan then we are a top team to beat. We have to play complete cricket like this and peak at the right time. These are the opportunities you have to grab and Tayyab did that today. We know Shammo is a world-class spinner and he came in and did his job.

Mohammad Rizwan: We played some good cricket. They got off to a good start but our bowlers pulled it back in the middle and death overs. Their bowlers put pressure on us and that produced wickets. It is a long tournament and we will have such days. Credit must go to them as they were the better team today.

Tabraiz Shamsi | Player of the Match: It was a long wait but we always have to look at the best combination for the team. It was a nice surface but you still have to put the ball in the right areas. The other spinners Malik and Imad bowled well too which made my job easier.

The result did not surprise me one bit. As I stated in another thread, this Karachi team is DIFFERENT than the one in 2022 under Babar. I am one of the biggest admirers of Babar the batsman, but hero worshippers just don’t get is - he is not a good leader which is stating the obvious.

Despite Wade’s disappointing inning, Imad did well to make up for some awful batting in the end. Imad did make a blunder though by not promoting himself over Shoaib, who always takes time to shift gears. I am hoping that he is not feeling pressured to promote a senior over himself.

I was very impressed by Ihsanullah’s bowling and believe that Sultan’s batting line has done a huge injustice to him. The wicket was dry and understandably tough to bat on, but losing by 60 runs to a slightly weaker team is uncalled for.

Why is Qasim Akram not getting a run. Imad the wannabe superstar didn’t give Mohammed Haris a go. Was not giving a proper go to umer khan. Didn’t play rizwan and now qasim akram.

Should’ve played this team a looong time ago. Tahir and Tabraiz are a must have. What was Imad thinking? Well they’re in now.

Haider Ali and Nawaz too need some mental / psychological shifts. Until then you’re wasting their time and your own time by playing them.

I say Nawaz because both of those guys have the same issues. Have the skills but their mind and body are at odds.

Imad the batsman has also metamorphosed into Dhoni this season which is interesting.

Brother Suleiman you have 14k posts, you know as well as I do Haider Ali has all the skills in the world you're right about that 100% but stop it with Nawaz, just stop.
