The teen behind Kashmir’s deadliest attack: ‘By the time this video reaches you, I’ll be in Heaven’

On the evening of February 14, Jaish-e-Mohammad released a pre-recorded 10-minute long video statement. It featured 19-year-old Adil Ahmed Dar, also known as Waqas Commando, from Gundibagh, in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. He said that he was directly recruited to Jaish’s fidayeen squad. “Fidayeen” is an Arabic term that means “those who sacrifice themselves”. Dar declared, “By the time this video reaches you, I will be in Heaven.”

Dar also spoke of the plight of “Indian and Kashmiri Muslims” in the Indian state, asserting that “your oppression fuels our jihad”. He hailed the role of South Kashmir in the “tehreek” or movement and appealed to the people of North and Central Kashmir to join.

Hours before the video was released, Dar had driven a Scorpio packed with explosives into a convoy of more than 70 Central Reserve Police Force vehicles passing along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. The attack took place near Lethpora, in the Awantipora area of Pulwama district.

“Police in Police District Awantipora today attended a gruesome terror crime spot at Ladhu Mode Lethpora at about 1515 hours following an explosion by terrorists targeting a security forces’ convoy travelling from Jammu to Srinagar,” a Jammu and Kashmir police statement said. “One vehicle which was part of the convoy carrying CRPF Personnel bore the brunt of the blast resulting in multiple casualties.”

According to Central Reserve Police Force figures released on Thursday evening, 37 of its men were killed. Unofficial figures put the toll at 42 so far. At least five personnel of the paramilitary force were also injured.

It is being called the deadliest attack by militants on security forces in Kashmir’s three-decade-long militancy. According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was so massive that it triggered an “earthquake-like” shock wave in the area. It left behind a smouldering mountain of wreckage and mangled vehicles, scattered pieces of human flesh and pools of blood.

After the blast, the police said, security forces cordoned off about 15 villages around the spot of the attack. On February 8, the the Central Reserve Police Force received a note from the state police, saying there had been inputs of a possible IED blast. “Before occupying your place of deployment, please sanitise the area properly,” the note said.

‘A responsible kid’
Hours after the blast, local residents including women and children, walked through the cold and rain to visit Dar’s house in Gundibagh. A Jaish-e-Mohammad flag had been strung up in the compound of the two-storeyed house.

Dar’s father, Ghulam Hassan Dar, wore a stoic face as he sat in his brother’s house next door, surrounded by a group of mourners. “He was a very responsible boy,” said Ghulam Hassan Dar, who travels from house to house selling fabric. “If he had Rs 10 in his pocket, he would save Rs 5. He would help out his mother, he take care of daily affairs at home.”

The second of three brothers, Dar had studied till Class 12 and then taken a course in religious studies. “He wanted to become a cleric and had already memorised eight chapters of the Quran,” said his father. “When he was free, he would take odd jobs to make a bit of money for himself. In 2017, he earned around Rs 50,000-Rs 60,000 by making wooden boxes at a nearby saw mill.”

Dar’s family had last seen him on the afternoon of March 19, 2018, his father said. He had been working as mason’s assistant at a construction site. That afternoon, said Ghulam Hassan Dar, his son came home for lunch, took his cycle and left home. “Days later, a photo of Adil wielding a gun went viral on social media,” said his father. “We had no idea he would choose this path.”

According to police officials, Dar was recruited to Jaish’s fidayeen squad after the outfit’s previous fidayeen militant, Fardeen Ahmad Khanday, was killed in 2018. Khanday had been part of a squad that launched a suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force camp in Lethpora in January 2018, killing five men from the paramilitary force.

Searching for answers
As Dar’s family searched for answers to how their son became the face of the deadliest militant attack in Kashmir, they remembered an incident in 2016. “One day, he was returning from his school and men from the STF stopped him and made him rub his nose on ground,” his father said. The Jammu and Kashmir police’s counterinsurgency unit was initially called the Special Task Force. Though its name has since been changed to Special Operations Group, in local parlance, it is still “STF”. The men forced the boy to make a circle around their jeep with his nose, his father said: “He kept mentioning this incident again and again.”

Dar’s uncle, Abdul Rashid Dar, pointed out that his nephew was very passionate about pro-freedom politics in Kashmir. “He participated actively in protests,” Abdul Rashid Dar said. “During the 2016 Burhan Wani uprising, he got hit by a bullet in the leg. It was in plaster for three months.” The killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016, had triggered mass protests that raged for months in the Valley.

Dar was not the first member of his family to join militancy. His cousin, Manzoor Rashid Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, joined the Lashkar-e-Taiba in 2016. He survived for only 11 days before being killed in a gunfight on June 30, 2016. “My other son, Tauseef Ahmad, also went to join militancy in March last year,” said Abdul Rashid Dar. “Four days after he went missing, Adil left home too. While my son returned after 14 days, Adil did not.”

‘Who wants to see bloodshed?’
In the Dar family home, there was grief but there was also anger, largely directed at “pro-India” political parties in Jammu and Kashmir. “Who wants to see bloodshed?” said Ghulam Hassan Dar. “If there’s something wrong in the family, it’s the duty of the family’s head to solve the issue. Same should have been the case with our politicians.”

He added: “But the reality is that all they care about is power. Nobody talks about the daily blinding of civilians, killings and encounters. Why don’t these politicians invite all the parties and find a solution to Kashmir issue?”

The family also pointed to Dar’s cousin, Tauseef Ahmad Dar, in jail in spite of having given up arms. “When my son came back from militancy, we told the police that we will send him to Dubai for a job,” said Abdul Rashid Dar. “But while we were still in the process of getting him a passport, the police picked him up and detained him under the PSA [Public Safety Act]. For the last three months, my 19-year-old son has been in Kot Balwal jail in Jammu.” The Public Safety Act is a preventive detention law which allows the state police to lock up individuals in the interests of “public order” and “security of the State”.

Ghulam Hassan Dar chipped in: “If I had asked my son to return, wouldn’t militants have questioned him: what’s the use of surrender when your surrendered militant brother is languishing in jail under PSA?”

Dar’s death does not come as a surprise to the family, even if they had not guessed that he would carry out such an attack. “He was a martyr for us the day he left home to join militancy,” Ghulam Hassan Dar said. “But there will always be a regret that we couldn’t meet him for the last time.”

Few want to talk about the remains of the militant who was killed on Thursday. “The family got a call from a police officer,” said a relative who did not want to be identified. “He said there’s nothing of Adil at the blast spot. He said pieces of human flesh are hanging from the trees and rooftops.”

Though the family has not received a body, a funeral was held for Dar on the night of February 14. According to police officials, two other local militants from Gundibagh are still active.

So a local youth got driven towards militancy by the murderous Indian Army and the easy thing to do is to blame Pakistan.

Pathetic India as usual

Wonder how you would've reacted if some Indian had said this after the Peshawar school attack.

Read the OP where it is written what Indian forces did to the boy. Secondly these are soldiers who got killed, not innocent children, so there is no comparison. And we Pakistanis know who was involved in Peshawar school attack. Indian Kulbhushans were here for a reason.

Couldn't care less about what they did to this terrorist, or what his joke of a father has to say. It's a family of terrorists. Cousin, brother, etc.

"Hey, they made me rub my nose in the ground! Let me blow up 40 people to get back at them."

So, according to his parents this guy was a militant, actively participated in protests, probably a stone pelter. When he was stoped by STF and allegedly made to rub his nose on floor. He decided to blow up a bus full of paramilitary forces.
But, he was very responsible, learnt Quran by heart, helped his mother and earned money for his family. He was such a noble soul.
No wonder this person will rot in hell forever with his cousins.

The logic is mind-blowing really.
I wonder when are our esteemed Kashmiri posters joining the brigade.

Yeah my bad.
I hope Govt repeals art 370 soon and we get to see many more such Martyrs in the times to come.
This time the security forces will be ready though.

Yes please go ahead, remove and enforce as many articles as you like. All will be settled.

The whole family is full of terrorist. The elders were running terrorist camp from their home. Good that they came out in public and accepted it. Security forces must take note and start the cleaning process from the terrorist camp.

Yep. Time to change the local demographics and settle the valley with people from mainland India and make Kashmiris minority in their own land.
Interesting times ahead.

Taking inspiration from Israel it seems, no surprise though. Enjoy these interesting times while you can, soon the reign will return to the traditional rulers and all will be normal.

"Hey, they made me rub my nose in the ground! Let me blow up 40 people to get back at them."

So you need to be put to your place.

And lets get on with it.

1) Why would you care about any Muslim suffering due to inherited hate towards them.

2) You aren't superior to anyone, you can't just try to control people against their will and expect no reaction in return, people with honor take 'respect' very seriously, unlike you.

3) Your ignorance, your hate, your immaturity, your extremists view has failed you to see the real issue.

"Hey, they made me rub my nose in the ground! Let me blow up 40 people to get back at them."

No one should get killed over this, not at least civilian, but an occupying army does that then what would one do, especially if they are subjected to this kind of disrespect, racism, and discrimination? Everyone has a breaking point.

But after reading your comment, it is obvious, you are too coward to do anything and will remain subservient. You are the kind of who would want other to do your dirty work, poor soldiers, probably had no choice but to join army so they can feed their family while receiving only one meal a day from Indian establishment, you are too afraid or incapable of to do it yourself, only good for posting hate online.

That is considered genocide as per international law. Don't be surprised if suicide bombing becomes a regular event in that case.

Or China (your best friend)?

1) Please don't play the religion card for no reason, especially when I've not said anything to suggest that I dislike Muslims.

2) Ah yes, "respect". Sure he got a lot of that by blowing up 40 people.

If you're a stone pelter and "protestor" from a family of terrorists, you should expect much worse than just having to rub your nose on the ground. Such people don't deserve to be respected in the first place.

The rest of your post is riddled with personal attacks which in turn show your immaturity. This is probably the 50th time you've done that so I hope the mods take notice.

Are you talking about Modi ? Is there any other PM candidate who has more hardline stance on Pak/Kashmir than Modi ?

Modi has been pretty useless, BJP is a failure w.r.t Kashmir/Pakistan inspite of all jingoisim ,backing Congress for more strong and silent actions behind scenes, after 2008 Home ministry was well handled but BJP has had multiple issues within their tenure.

I look forward to those times.
A handful of Jammu Rajputs easily subjugated and controlled these people during Dogara rule. Wouldn't be an issue again I'm sure.

I am disrespecting your thinking and believes, not attacking your appearance, so stop getting worked up like a snowflake, I thought most Trump supporters were better than snowflakes.

If you believe protesters to be killed for throwing stone at well trained army, then congratulation, you are ignorant and coward fool, it is against every international law.

No one is giving him respect, people are pointing out the 'reason' behind his thinking, read it slowly, so you can comprehend, and try to take of your hate filled goggles to do it.

Don't play the religion card? Every Bhakth here bring up pundit being removed, when the current government is heavily influenced by radicalized extremists nantionalists hindus, the whole India was divided on religion grounds, and you do not want me to mention religion?

Get out of here.

Gheirat cannot be taught. Its intrinsic.

Why are you trying to reason with people who are no better than savages? Let them bark all they want. They are in shock that their soldiers have died in a state of war. Perhaps they dont know what war looks like. THIS is what war looks like. Both sides take casualties. If they expected only the weaker side to lose sons, then it's their mistake. These people would never understand what prolonged oppression and humiliation can do to the victim's mind. So let them do their war mongering. Their brethren in India are already attacking innocent Kashmiri kids who are studying there. What else do you expect from a occupying nation? A country cannot be an occupying force until it gets support of the people.

I look forward to those times.

Yes brother, you and your Dogara Rajputs . They conveniently ruled in Kashmir while the British were here.

Might be a good move to withdraw the half million Indian troops from the state and replace them with a handful of Jammu Rajputs then. Probably would bring peace to the region far quicker.

Yes, I believe that someone can be killed for trying to attack any member of the armed forces. This is not some extremist view point like you're making it out to be. Like I said before, try throwing a rock at an American police officer and let me know how it works out.

"No one is giving him respect, people are pointing out the 'reason' behind his thinking, read it slowly, so you can comprehend, and try to take of your hate filled goggles to do it. "

You said that he did committed this heinous act because his "honor" took a hit after having to rub his nose. I simply replied saying that such a person deserves no respect, and blowing up 40 people isn't going to get him much respect either. Maybe a one way ticket to hell but that's about it.

And mate your post is riddled with grammatical errors. I don't care about that (we can switch to Hindu/Urdu if that works better for you), but best to fix that before telling others about how their reading comprehension is weak.

More like mass murdered and spurred an exodus of Kashmiris to Punjab, I wouldn't admire these people. Also Dogras weren't a "handful", they had a pretty large population and were gifted their "kingdom" by the British for backstabbing the Sikhs.

I am getting sick of this Indian drama after every such incident. They do so much shor sharaba after minor incidents while they themselves commit great atrocities with impunity. They do all this calculatedly to deter enemies with their false bravado. Pakistan should stand firm for a change instead of getting pressurized and talk with them in the language they understand.

Take care of yourself brother. These cowards can stoop to any level. Kashmiris as a nation has made us all proud and their sacrifices will not go in vain.

When did American Army has ever killed protesters for throwing stones? unless it was during segregation or slavery? Please reply.

American police is infamous for using extreme force than needed, it isn't appreciated by the rest of the world. LOL

You called his family "terrorist", stop lying. It is a war that India has not won and will never win.

LOL at grammatical errors, you know damn well I only speak URDU, If you weren't able to understand my response in Elementary English then you wouldn't have replied. Stop playing yourself.

I feel sorry for him and his family.

We cannot imagine the mental and physical strain on a person growing up under occupation. The abuse the terrorist Indian soldiers met out to his family and his people, it's not a surprise a person would want to take revenge. Due to the actions of the Indian state his life and the lives of soldiers have been wasted.

You have reached a new low, but glad that you're exposing yourself. Sympathizing with a family of terrorists is truly something.

Kashmir is disputed land. Under International law the population has the right to fight back against combatants which this chap did. He didn't kill any innocent people but enemy combatants who are occupying his land and terrorising his family. I dont agree with suicide bombing but it's a tactic of war which he chose out of desperation and prob due to suffering with mental health because of Indian actions in his homeland.

fair game for suicide bombing ? You think this is a war , right ? A war fought in 47 , 65 , Kargil , terrorism - how nice . Why is Pakistan a active participant in this war ?

It's a tactic of war. India has used rape in their occupation as a tactic attacking schoolgirls in Kashmir, which is much worse.

Again Indian army is in disputed land and therefore the people of living in the land have a right to defend themselves by armed force which this man has did.

Definitely. Swords should dictate the terms again in the valley.

Its just KKWC being KKWC.

He feels sorry for the teens family. What a joke. .

I try to put myself living in occupation, having my family abused. Imagine the mental horror a people must go through and the desperation.

But Indians dont even feel sorry for the innocent people killed by their army, in fact they re-joice in the deaths of men, torture of teenager and rapes of schoolgirls. Perhaps Indians need to find some compassion to become more human like.

Him along with several other kids are abused and killed daily in IOK. No wonder such kids turn to militancy.
You reap what you sow. Blame lies towards the govt of india for this attack, for their lack of resolution to the Kashmir issue.

Its a bit surreal seeing the reaction to this incident.

Dont get me wrong, any loss of life is sad. No matter the circumstances.

However, the strange choice of words used by Indian commentators regarding the incident makes it seems as if they are living in a parralell universe.

This person killed those who he believd directly responsible for oppressing his people.

The men who died are also killers or potential killers. Except they work for the state.

This individual is labelled a coward or a terrorist. What actually makes his action a terrorist action?

Is it the fact that he attacked people when they were unprepared for attack?

When Pakistan/India kill opposition forces in cross border skirmishes are they terrorist attacks?

When India fires on unarmed Kashmiris excercing a right to protest, is this terrorism?

Please someone spell out for me the logic for calling one set of killing terrorism and the other ok.

So Indian perspective is that they can openly kill and torture Kashmiris who in return should remain silent. It is Indian brutality that gives birth to terrorism. India is 100% responsible for terrorism in IOK no doubt about it whatsoever. I have said so before that only a final war with them will end this once and for all.

India has has revoked our MFN status which was always insignificant in the first place. We never ever gave them that so nothing to cancel. India is paying the price for their own mess in IOK.

This low life didn't targeted muslim majority kashmiri police men who harassed him and also a comparatively soft target.

This will be a hit for Pakistan financially. They just met the FATF deadline and the same day Pakistan is in the news for the wrong reasons. The statement from US asking Pakistan to dismantle terror infrastructure is not good news for Pak. This will impact every investment in Pak.

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1910797/2-pakistan-meets-fatf-requirements/

I don't know much about Kashmir politics but as an investor, I follow financial news. The timing of it is very critical for Pakistan

Im sorry to say but the headline in the OP is just crazy. Let's look at facts and repurcussions objectively

Psychopath is dead. He ain't going anywhere, heaven or hell, who knows. There ain't no proof of anything. He's just dust

India will replace these 40 soldiers in a jiffy.

Kashmiris will face even more stringent actions

Pakistan will be in a financial pickle and in the news for wrong reasons. Not good for Imran. It's embarrassing for him to explain why that Jaish guy is still not arrested considering he claimed the attack.

US issued a statement against Pak. China is already in a tarriff war with US and will not back Pak while they try to resolve their economy issues.

Modi will up the rhetoric and gain political points.

Who's the winner and loser here. Modi and Jaish seem to be the winners as they will gain politically and financially. Kashmiris, Pak and Imran will be the losers with suffocating investments. The psychopath bomber is irrelevant at the end of it as he was before.

He was driven to militancy because of growing hindu extremist in India under BJP. What he did was wrong and may Allah boot him down to hell instead of heaven where only someone like Inzamam ul Haq and Ehdi sahb should rest.

Having said that, damn you Modi. You are a chaiwala who destroyed this country.

30 vehicles of a particular community torched in Jammu, dozens more damaged

Widespread violence was witnessed in Jammu city on Friday during the bandh called by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Bar Association against the Thursday’s militant attack in Kashmir. Around 16 people received injuries while more than 30 vehicles belonging to a particular community were reduced to ashes and over 50 more damaged.
Even though the district magistrate imposed curfew at around 2:30 p.m, the police and paramilitary troops were unable to curb the violence at multiple locations including Gujjar Nagar, Shahidi Chowk, Janipur, Purani Mandi, Pacca Danga, Rehari, Residency Road, New Plot, Gummat, Prem Nagar and Narwal.

Hundreds of people, mostly students of Jammu University and several colleges, holding Indian flags on their bikes and raising slogans against Pakistan and militants, marched throughout the city and resorted to violence against members of a particular community.
Heavy deployment of police was made but they were seen helpless to control the situation. At some places tear gas shells were fired by the police while the people resorted to stone pelting on the cops.
Eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that crowds assembled at Jewel Chowk area in the morning and more people joined it on the way towards Dogra Chowk, Below Gummat Petrol Pump, Gummat, Prem Nagar and Gujjar Nagar, where the mobs turned violent.
The mobs attacked vehicles of a particular community and set them ablaze.
In retaliation to the targeting of their vehicles, the people of Gujjar Nagar, who were hitherto standing atop their buildings carrying the Indian flags, came out on the roads and started pelting stones at the mob, resulting in violent clashes.
As per eyewitnesses, over 25 vehicles were torched by the mob at Prem Nagar and Gujjar Nagar locality and more than 30 others were damaged.
Around 16 people, including two media persons of Early Times and Amar Ujala, were injured in the violent clashes.
Later, the mobs marched towards the Residency Road area and amid pro-India and anti-Pakistan sloganeering, burnt five more vehicles.
The crowds then marched towards Jewel area through the Gummat Chowk route and broke the windows of several vehicles and turned many upside down.
A youth told Greater Kashmir, “We’ve been given free hand by the police for around 3-4 hours to damage the vehicles belonging to a particular community.”
Some vehicles of the other community were also torched in the Gummat area.
Later the police dispersed the protesters, while fire and emergency department vehicles contained the flames.
Incidents of violence were reported in the evening across Jammu. En-route Jewel Chowk to Tallab Tillo area, Ambphalla-Janipur Road, Khatika Tallab, Gujjar Nagar, Purani Mandi, the protesters burnt tyres and damaged vehicles.
As per reports, some kiosks belonging to minority community were also pelted with stones at New Plot and Janipur in the evening.
In order to stop the situation from worsening, the divisional administration called the army in the evening. The army reacted promptly and personnel were deployed in Gujjar Nagar, Janipur, Shahidi Chowk, Talab Khatika and other areas. Flag marches were conducted and UAVs were also put into operation to monitor the situation.
The authorities snapped the mobile Internet service throughout the Jammu province while the speed of the broadband service was also slowed down.
The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries had given the call for bandh which was supported by Bar Association of Jammu and political and religious organisations including the NC, NPP, BJP, VHP and other organisations.
Reports of violence were also received from other districts of Jammu province.

Shameful by the majority community to attack defenceless minority who have nothing to do with attacks. On being asked why they did this, some of them replied the police asked them to do it and told them not to fear repercussions.

I am sure there will be fools here who will defend even this.

As i feared, innocent muslim civilians of the valley and in India will suffer the wrath of this attack.

This is the BJP's style of doing things.

Good post and completely agree - this crisis will be the biggest test of Imran so far..

And the other end of the spectrum.

"Not only he is likely to end up in Hell for committing suicide, the crazy appeal that the random youth of today have that this is Jihad and they will get heaven should be nailed to a coffin fast."

I don't believe in suicide bombing and path to heaven.

If this is indeed true, it's wrong.

Militants must be targeted. Not innocent ppl.

So in your careful and deep analysis of the whole issue, you feel that there is no reason to doubt any reports of atrocities by the Indian Army in Kashmir?

What he said was really simplistic indeed. But guys like modi win because of simpletons who need a simple black and white version of things. "That is the enemy who is fighting us. We are good guys, they are bad guys". Unfortunately world is filled with simpletons who dont want to look hard enough to see various dimensions which shape the eventual reality.

Lets be fair, NO one wants their dear and loved ones to suffer so his reaction is fine and understandable but the rest of the stuff is naive.

The weapon he has is pretty sophisticated, this is concerning. We know we got blacksheeps in the Indian military, I can't see Pakistan smuggling weapons across LOC.

just before the general elections modi has started his anti muslim politics by giving his green signal to gujjar nagar riots
let these idiots open their eyes and learn some humanity from Kashmiris , 100's of trucks are stranded at national highway whose drivers are non kashmiri yet they have been given food and other necessary commodities by kashmiri people.
almost 40 to 50% of Biharis and uttar pradesh population work here as labours from last 40 years and even they say they feel safer here , about time India stops this step motherly treatment to kashmiri Muslims or you will see more and more youth inclining to guns

A coincidence a person of same name arrested as militant in 2017.

2 MILITANTS KILLED, ANOTHER ARRESTED
ESS AHMAD. Dated: 9/10/2017

The third militant, Adil Ahmad Dar, sources said, rose from the rubble of the house and was apprehended by the forces along with his weapon. He, they said, was soon whisked away in a forces vehicle for interrogation.

Modi is not a winner in this situation. He's getting a lot of backlash because many attacks have happened under his administration.

They will not learn. They are worst of the worst. Dont compare them with Kashmiris. We will give our own food to non-Kashmiris stranded in Kashmir and sleep hungry ourselves.

Seriously?

I have been a poster here for years and i have seen some of the most simplistic statements made by non Indian posters who like to use buzzwords without any understanding or context.

Ask them any details and they evade or retreat.

Agreed there are some Indians who don't look at the complexity of Kashmir issue and are trigger-happy to call anyone acknowledging problems from our side as traitors... but calling out Indians reg this hardly seems fair when others do it at a far higher scale.

Take several threads about terrorism and you will see comments that would make you lose faith in humanity.

International terrorists are roaming scot-free in Pakistan and Indians are supposed to exercise restraint?

Seriously?

Look, not painting everyone with the same brush but cmon... Look around.

We Indians may not be able to understand the psychological impact that our army has on you but....

1. What is happening is not the way to go.

2. Who started the problems back in partition before Kashmir people could choose whom to accede?

3. Who helped kashmiris drive out pandit during 80s riots?

4. Who gives outside support to militants through non state actors?

Indians are well justified in their reactions against Pakistan.

In my religion, upholding dharma is supreme.

Sorry, but I can't support what is happening in Kashmir. I dont support everything from our side but I cannot in good conscience support Kashmiri terrorism.

SRINAGAR: A suicide bomber who killed 44 paramilitary personnel in India-held Kashmir joined a militant group after having been beaten by troops three years ago, his parents said on Friday.

Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s car bomb attack on a security convoy, the worst assault in the disputed Himalayan region. It comes months before a key Indian general election.

Adil Ahmad Dar, 20, from the village of Lethipora in occupied Kashmir, rammed a car full of explosives into the convoy.

“We are in pain in the same way the families of the soldiers are,” said farmer Ghulam Hassan Dar, adding that his son had been radicalised after police stopped him and his friends on the way home from school in 2016.

“They were stopped by the troops and beaten up and harassed,” he said, adding that the students were accused of stone-pelting.

“Since then, he wanted to join the fighters.”

A video released by JeM after the attack showed his son, dressed in military fatigues and carrying an automatic rifle, detailing his plan to carry out the bombing.

His mother, Fahmeeda, corroborated her husband’s account.

“He was beaten by Indian troops a few years back when he was returning from school,” she said. “This led to anger in him against Indian troops.”

Both parents said they were unaware of their son’s plan to attack the convoy.

Adil Dar did not return home from his work as a labourer on March 19 last year, Fahmeeda added. “We searched for him for three months,” she said.

“Finally we gave up efforts to bring him back home.”

The two accounts could not be independently verified.

A spokesman for India’s home ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ghulam Hassan Dar said he blamed politicians for his son’s death.

“They should have resolved the issue through dialogue,” he said, referring to the conflict over India-held Kashmir.

“It is they who are responsible for driving these youth into militancy. The sons of the common man die here, whether they are Indian troops or our sons.”

Don't post things like this. How will our Indian posters react once they realize the truth. Their entire anti-pakistan propoganda bubble will burst!

Yup,have heard this excuse some where else too. When they ask any mass murderers, serial killers and child molesters on why they committed the crime, they will always blame someone else and give reasons like “my parents beat me” or “I was abused as a child.”

Have you guys seen how criminals who refuse to obey police are beaten up in the US? Check out Rodney King beatings, he didn’t go blow up bunch of police men.

You are comparing apples and oranges. India is seen as an occupying force by Kashmiris. And excesses done by Indians is seen as oppression. Do you understand it now? Or should i give you examples from your own freedom struggle?

Terrorist groups and Pakistan are using these young men to push their agenda and they use religion to entice them. If you guys don’t see that this kid was used and radaclised by terrorist elements then yiu guys are blind.

Last week a kid in Florida was detained by school resource officer for not standing up to the pledge and a student was tazed by cops for being distruptive. These kids are not blowing themselves because people here in the US are not radicalizing them. On the other hand in Kashmir these shameless terrorist and their masters are using the promise of heaven thru certain religion to make these kids commit these heinous crime. For that they should be ashamed.

They can see what they want to see, but when a teen is used to commit murder it’s a shameful act. Why don’t those fat 40year old bearded guys blow themselves up? Kashmir belongs to India and that’s the way it Will stay.

Why does Indian army recruit 18 year olds to commit murder of Kashmiris? Lol at your logic. Tum karo to chamatkaar waali baat kar di.

Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris. Nobody else.

They are not a standing military men and they are governed by rules and laws which done by all civilized countries on the other hand old men from certain religion, use that religion and recruite kids to do their cowardly and shameful killing. Show me where an 18 year old Indian kid went blowing up Kashmiris?

I did not understand the gibberish you wrote at the end.

While at it ask your masters to return the occupied Kashmir back to Kashmiris.

I was talking about recruiting teenage soldiers. That point of your was plain dumb sorry to say. Teenage soldiers are the in every army, official or guerilla.

Yes we are seeing that in various parts of India at this very moment. RSS and Bajrang dal goons attacking Kashmiri kids everywhere.

Show me where an 18 year old Indian kid went blowing up Kashmiris?

Blowing up or not, they have been killing Kashmiris by the numbers since 70 years. You seem like a nice guy, so take your head out of the sand and you might see it.

I did not understand the gibberish you wrote at the end.

While at it ask your masters to return the occupied Kashmir back to Kashmiris.

What?

Kashmiri pandits were robbed, murder and forced to leave their homes. Not a single one took up arms.
When murder, destruction and barbarism is in your blood, you just need petty reasons to kill.

No they were not. And hence they did not pick up arms. They knew they effed up by falling prey to Indian regime's plans who used them as pawns.

If you are so adamant that Kashmir belongs to Ind, and you will use violence to keep it that way, then obviously it's fine for others to disagree with occupation to also use violence.
