Impressive 62 in the 2nd Test against India.

Supposed to be the successor to Faf as SA's most dependable batter - but will he succed?

He looks very organized and possesses a tight defence, probably needs a bit more confidence about his place in the side before he improves his strike-rate. I do feel that number 3 is a spot too high for him, I'd rather him bat at 4 and move van der Dussen up.

Looked good.

Decent technique, patient and nice footwork.

Looks a good find.

Played a beautiful little knock in the first innings as one half of a crucial early partnership. Contributed in the second innings as well. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Another solid innings in progress by him - 56*

Can’t wait to see this guy in overseas conditions, he’s a little bit of a special talent isn’t he.

Impressed the way Keegan Petersen played. He's playing his sixth Test, but was so compact and assured.
A bright prospect for South Africa.

Very efficient player.

Could be something big in the making for South Africa.

74* (104) in the run chase versus India so far, he’s doing very well again!

18 runs off a hundred with 57 still to get for the team. Can definitely do it :)

Keegan Petersen | Player of the Match | Player of the Series vs India!

Keegan Petersen | Player of the Match | Player of the Series: It hasn't sunk in yet. It's a mixed bag to be honest. Happy, emotional. I was trying to be positive and then build on that. It's been difficult conditions all around and was just sticking to my guns. It's been a long journey, can't tell the whole story now, won't be over till tomorrow morning. It's been challenging surfaces, challenging bowling attacks. We knew it was going to be difficult - they're a high quality bowling attack, a high quality team. We just wanted to have the mindset to fight it out. Enjoying it (success) a lot. The longer you bat, the easier it gets (on these pitches). So, just enjoyed it a lot.

Incredible batting.
Looked so good every time he was on the crease. The best thing about him he was straight in, looked confortable from ball 1.

Can't understand he averaged so "low" in FC cricket.
I will be interested in what he does on the next tours.

Highly impressed with this guy. He was handling bhumra like a boss

Looks a very solid player.
On these tough pitches he did very well.
The thing is he is very experienced in first class structure he has played over 100 FC games. It seems like he is at the peak of his career.

He is already 28 but he has good 5-7 years left in him.
Future looks hopeful for South Africa.

I don't know. Our best players tend to be plugged out of the u-19's and fast tracked through the system (Kallis, Smith, AB, Amla, Steyn, Morkel, Ntini, Rabada, QdK, Markram (yet to fulfill his potential though) etc.). Vernon Philander is the only exception. One could argue Vernon was part of the u/19 setup as well, it's just that it took him until his late 20's to realize his true potential.

I've yet to see our domestic cricket actually improve players where they contribute to an acceptable level, even a so called "home track bully". All in all he'll do well to carve out a decent career.

Keegan Peterson has done what VVS Laxman did in 2001.

This Test Series resembles little bit of India Australia Test Series of 2001.

The Indian team in 2001 was going through transition with youngsters like ZAK, Bhajji were coming up the ranks along with VVS Laxman, Shiv Sunder Das etc. india were without Anil Kumble.

Australia under Steven Waugh were coming to conquer india ( final frontier) in 2001.
They were on 16 consecutive Test Win streak. Ended up winning 1st Test as well in India.
But lost remaining 2 and lost the series 1-2 and VVS Laxman was unsung hero of the series along with Bhajji.

Fast forward 2022, India worlds best Test team, won 2 away Test series in Australia, winning 1-2 in England and not lost a home Test series since 2012, came to conquer South Africa.
Won the First Test but lost remaining two tests and lost the series.

South Africa also have unsung hero Keegan Peterson and Jansen as superb talent.

In short never underestimate any opposition specially away from home.

Saffers are desperate for a young black batsman to become World class, will he become the guy? It would be brilliant for Saffer and World cricket if this happens.

After watching his knock in the 2nd Innings of the 3rd Test, I agree with Elgar's post-match claim:

Always knew he was a good player. I think he's gone into a great player mould.

Durham Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of South African Test Player Keegan Petersen who will join Durham for the 2022 County Championship season. The right-hand bat recently made his Test debut against West Indies and has gone onto play a
further 4 games for his national side.

An impressive series against India on home soil in January saw him named Player of the Series and ICC Player of the Month, steering South Africa to a Test series win over Virat Kohli’s men.

Petersen, who was the leading scorer in the series with 276 runs, helped South Africa to a 2-1 series
win over India.

A proven run scorer in domestic First-Class cricket Petersen has amassed over 6000 runs, with 16 centuries and 32 fifties, including a highest score of 225*.

The 28-year-old scored 111 for South Africa A against England in 2019 facing a bowling attack which included James Anderson, Chris Woakes and his new Durham team-mate Ben Stokes.

Petersen will be available for 7 County Championship games and will join up with the South Africa squad following Durham’s LV= Insurance County Championship match against Worcestershire.

Keegan Petersen said: “It’s exciting to join a County like Durham and I look forward to linking up with the squad and having a successful contribution during my time in the north east.”

Director of Cricket, Marcus North added: “We’re very pleased to have secured the quality of Keegan Petersen for the first block of County cricket in 2022.

“Keegan will add further strength to the top our batting line up and joins the club on the back of a successful period with South Africa.
“He is in a great place with his cricket having, last year, broke into the South African Test side; we
look forward to welcoming Keegan to Durham in April.”

Shame he's out of the New Zealand series with covid, would have been interesting to see how he adjusts to the greentops in Christchurch ahead of the tour to England.

Durham Cricket can confirm that Keegan Petersen’s spell with the Club has ended earlier than initially planned.

The South African international batter has returned home to South Africa for family reasons and will play no further part for Durham this season.

Keegan was due to play 7 County Championship games before joining up with the South Africa squad for their Test series against South Africa later in the summer.

Marcus North, Director of Cricket, said: “Our thoughts are with Keegan and his family and we fully support his decision to return back to South Africa.

“We wish him all the best for the future and thank KP for his contributions in a Durham shirt this season.”

Needs to start scoring meaningful big scores, seems to get in and look good for 20 or 30 runs and then throws it away.
