Khyber Pakhtunkhwa defeat Southern Punjab by 10 runs to win the 2020 National T20 Cup

Imran Khan has been pretty good in the tournament based upon the matches he has played.

I'm avoiding the thread because the YT stream is a few minutes behind but there are more than 50K people who are watching the live stream at one moment.

If PCB manages to monetize this, it could become a good avenue for income. Hopefully something like CricketGateway can pay attention to this.

Not impressed by Khusdil I think Azam Khan is a more well rounded hitter for 5-6 slot.Though my preferred option is Danish Aziz for that slot.

Watching Youtube Stream.

How was Talat not an LBW - imran was robbed of a wicket there. Dead Plumb

Why was arshad dropped by KP had been bowling quite well.

Imran bowled well with the new ball and Shinwari single handedly almost won the match for KPK against Sindh with 30 odd runs and 3 for 20.

Tough on Arshad Iqbal but he will hopefully get more opportunities going forward. I am more interested in him playing QAE and I hope he gets chances there.

Good little knock by Talat here he is still behind quite a few names in the pecking order but with this tourney he has atleast got back in some kindmof contention

Oppurtunity for Saif Badar to perform in the final when so many people are watching.

The sound off of Hussains bat on that six. Wow

He is pretty good as can play all around the ground. Only issue is sometimes he gets a mental block and completely misses the context of the match. However, when he goes with a clear mind he is a pretty dangerous player.

Must say this is the best I have seen Talat bat sure got a life with the lbw but other wise has been flawless

First time I've tuned in live... must say the intensity is international T20 level.

Much better than WAPDA playing SSGC. Thank you Wasim Khan, credit where due.

What a catch from Shoaib Malik! Never seen him this passionate after a catch

Exactly.

End of a really good knock had he taken them home might have got him a place in the Pakistan t 20 side

Unfortunately yet to see Saif Badar create any impact in a high profile match.

Game over for SP.

I wanted them to win, oldie brigade of KPK deserved to lose.

Regional 6 team was imran khan's dream not wasim khan's. It had to be implemented whoever is in PCB.

Good final. SP just fell short. Poor death bowling from SP and Shaheen's new ball spell made the difference.

Mohammed imran defo impressed me but he needs to improve his bowling hopefully he playing somewhere in quaid trophy

Without Hafeez and Shaeen KPK wouldn’t even go to semi. Hopefully once Hafeez retire and Shaheen leaves ,Razzaq will forced to get new players in order to be competitive team.

Hafeez was awful today but Malik was better surprisingly. Southern lost due to Shaheen and dropped catches

The fielding by SP was disgraceful. This tournament overall when it comes to fielding and fitness was a real downer and it showed how much hard work the coaches have to do

Six regional teams are a good idea. The first XI of each region should only include the best players. This will make each team very competitive.Pakistan has a big populationso in future another two teams can be added but the maximum number of teams should not exceed 8.This structure will start showing results after a couple of more seasons.

What awards were given and who got them ?

Usually highest run scorer, wicket taker, most catches and most stumping get best batsmen, bowler, fielder and wicket keeper awards respectively. I wonder if they have man of the tournament award?
Also should have young player of tournament award and award for most sixes hit

Mohammad Rizwan's post-match comments

“This year, the T20 tournament was something different, it had a different color. People were making predictions about different teams and we were finding it strange, it felt like it was even bigger than PSL because it was done in a really good way. It was in a double league format and the tournament was quite difficult. Most of the matches went to the end.”

“It’s very important for Pakistan that this tournament was in a double league format. In this, seniors, juniors, and youngsters all got a chance. In the past, teams just focused on becoming champion but here, teams that were performing well gave chances to youngsters also so it was very important for them.”

Inspired by scintillating half-centuries from veteran Shoaib Malik and Fakhar Zaman followed by a disciplined bowling effort led by Shaheen Shah Afridi (three for 36) and Wahab Riaz (three for 36) helped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lift the National T20 Cup for First XI teams against Southern Punjab in a well-contested final played at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded a 10-run win as their bowlers successfully defended a 206-run score.

The Mohammad Rizwan-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa collected a winning prize of PKR 5million while the Shan Masood-led Southern Punjab pocketed PKR2.5million.

On Sunday night, chasing a mammoth 207-run target, Southern Punjab got off to a poor start as tournament’s highest wicket-taker Shaheen (20 wickets) sent Shan (7) and Sohaib Maqsood (0) packing inside the first three overs. Big-hitter Zeeshan Ashraf perished while attempting a big shot off Wahab to leave his side tottering at 34 for three in 5.2 overs.

Hussain Talat and Khushdil Shah brought Southern Punjab back in the hunt with a 74-run partnership off a mere 43 balls. Usman Khan Shinwari at this stage struck a crucial blow when he dismissed Khushdil who was smartly caught by Fakhar for 34 off 24 balls (two fours, three sixes).

Hussain fought hard for Southern Punjab with a stroke-filled 63 off 33 balls, the left-hander hit six fours and three sixes before his innings was cut short by brilliant diving catch by Malik at the long-on boundary off Wahab. Hussain’s dismissal left Southern Punjab reeling at 131 for five, needing another 76 off 34 balls.

Saif Badar perished cheaply for five runs; Aamer Yamin fell for 13 to Wahab as the match slipped out of Southern Punjab’s reach.

All-rounder Muhammad Imran played some big shots at the end of the innings, the right-hander finished 38 not out (13 balls, four sixes, two fours).

Southern Punjab ended their innings at 196 for eight.

Reflecting on his performance, man-of-the-match Shoaib Malik said: “I think your goal is to give your best shot always, at times you do well, at times you don’t. I want to thank my management, especially coach Abdul Razzaq and captain Mohammad Rizwan for backing me when I needed their backing the most as I was struggling. The opponents bat very deep that is why we wanted to post a big total today, I wanted to bat deep and keep attacking. Our bowlers got early wickets which really helped set-up the win, I backed myself while batting and I am happy that my contribution helped the team.”

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who were asked to bat first, started their innings on a positive note with openers Fakhar and Rizwan adding 76 runs for the first-wicket in 9.3 overs. Rizwan was run out on a direct throw from wicketkeeper Zeeshan for 25 off 30 balls (one four, one six).

Fakhar who during the course of his 67-run innings went past Khurram Manzoor as the highest run-getter of the tournament (420 runs, 35 avg, 147.88 SR, five 50s) hit a typically aggressive half-century before he was dismissed by Aamer. He faced 40 balls and hit seven fours and three sixes.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa then lost Iftikhar Ahmed (1) to leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood which left them 126 for three in 14.4overs.

At this stage, the two seasoned campaigners Mohammad Hafeez and Malik made the most of some fielding and catching lapses by the Southern Punjab fielders to add 51 runs in a mere 26 balls.

Hafeez was dismissed for 38 off 26 balls (two fours, two sixes). Malik who had completed 10,000 T20 runs during the course of the tournament played a magnificent innings to propel Khyber Pakhtunkhwa past the 200-run mark. The right-hander hit four sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 56-run innings off 22 balls.

Malik’s onslaught helped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa add 73 runs in the last four overs. Zahid, Aamer and Imran took a wicket apiece for Southern Punjab.

Decent effort by SP.

Their bowlers lost the plot in the last few overs and that meant KP scored 20 to 30 more than they should have.

Also should have young player of tournament award and award for most sixes hit

They definitely should have had emerging player or young player award
