"Knowing all the Pakistan players, we are just like brothers from another country" : Varun Aaron

Indian fast-bowler Varun Aaron on Friday said Indian team is much better than of Pakistan and there's no reason why they shouldn't beat them in the upcoming World Cup. He also noted that the India-Australia matches are played at a much higher intensity than India-Pakistan matches of late.

"We have a much better team than Pakistan, there is no reason why we shouldn't win the match against Pakistan. I feel India has developed a fierce rivalry with Australia off late and the intensity of India-Australia matches are almost outdoing the intensity of India-Pakistan matches. The rivalry between India and Pakistan will always be there, but the match to look out for will be the India-Australia one," Aaron told ANI.

Pakistan's all-rounder Shahid Afridi in his latest autobiography 'Game Changer' slammed India's former cricketer Gautam Gambhir for his attitude and said Gambhir acted like he was a cross between Don Bradman and James Bond.

However, Aaron said there is nothing much serious about this issue as everyone tries to make their book more interesting for the readers.

"Everybody wants to make the book interesting for the readers. But as far as I know, all India-Pakistan cricketers have good relations off the field. Knowing all the Pakistan players, we are just like brothers from another country. All of the guys speak to each other in Punjabi, otherwise I don't see anything much serious in this issue," Aaron said.

Aaron also believes that the Indian team has one of the best chances of winning the World Cup due to the balance the team possess. He also opined that the team's players have experience in the overseas conditions and the team's bowling lineup is a very varied one.

"I feel we have one of the best chances of winning the World Cup with the side we have. We've got an unbelievable batting lineup and our bowlers have been great of late. All the players have experience in the overseas conditions so I don't think anyone should have questions. Our bowling line-up is a varied line-up. You got Bhuvi who can swing the bowl, Bumrah can bowl really at the front and in the death, Shami bowls with great speed and I really hope they win the Cup back," he said.

The 29-year-old Aaron said the conditions in England for the upcoming World Cup will be quite flat and the bowler said the hosts England is one of the favourites for the World Cup. He believes that the West Indies are going to be the dark horses in the World Cup due to the big hitters they have in their ranks.

"The English tracks are quite flat, it's just the atmosphere that helps the bowlers. You are going to see big scoring games because of the small size of the grounds. If there's cloud cover you may see swinging conditions for the bowlers," Aaron told ANI.

"England is a really good contender because they have a really good side. You can never count out Australia because they have won so many World Cups. For me, the dark horse will be West Indies as they have Gayle back in the mix, you've got Russell and any Windies bowler can be destructive on his day," he added.

Aaron believes that having MS Dhoni in the team is a very good thing for captain Virat Kohli and Dhoni's ability to manoeuvre bowlers from behind the stumps will hold the team in good stead in the World Cup.

"Dhoni is the most accomplished captain that India has ever had. I am glad that Virat has Dhoni in his ranks who can give him advice. Dhoni marshalling the troops from behind will play a crucial role in the upcoming World Cup," Aaron said.

Aaron hopes to make it to the Indian national team and said if he is able to bowl at his potential, he's sure he'll be able to stage a comeback in the team.

"I am very confident to play for the country. I know I haven't played for the last three years because of a few setbacks here and there. I am coming back from a very good domestic season. I am just trying to bowl at my potential and I know if I bowl at my potential, I'll make a comeback into the team," Aaron said.

Aaron is currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and the team's hopes of making it to the playoffs hang by a thread. The team needs to win their final match and then they need other results to go their way to progress to the playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals changed their captaincy reins in the middle of the tournament. Steve Smith replaced Ajinkya Rahane as the captain of the team. Aaron believes that the captaincy change did not affect the side much and opined that players were highly motivated as they had to win every match in the tournament to stay alive for a possible shot at playoffs.

"I wouldn't say there are too many changes, nothing has changed much. I would just say when Smith took over the captaincy we were in a position where we need to win almost every game. The boys were that much motivated and there was a spirit in the team. Smith is a great captain, we have come up with great results. I would say nothing has changed much, it was a change in mindset knowing the situation we were in," Aaron said.

Aaron has played 9 Tests and 9 ODIs for India in which he has taken 18 and 11 wickets respectively.

Who cares for his opinion?

It's like Abdur Rauf giving an interview saying we'll beat India.

Hes right, India Australia matches are more intense than India Pakistan matches these days, the quality in India Australia is much higher and an even contest.

Good comments.

His opinions would carry some significance if he was part of India's WC squad, he's probably not even considered backup. India are taking only 3 front-line seamers to a world cup in England where they will play 10+ games - this shows where Aaron stands. They will probably call up Khaleel, Umesh and Ishant ahead of him

Very positive comments from Aaron loved how he said “we are like brothers from another country”. Very heartening to read that.

There is no denying that India has been a better team for sometime but I have never heard Man City vs Man U isnt considered a rivalry anymore just because one team is now weaker than other. There were times that Pak was a much better team but that didnt finish the rivalry and in future also balance will keep on changing just like in any other rivalry.

People should realize the rivalries are not created because of the sustained quality of matches itself but a history attached to it. Its not like two teams compete well for couple of years and it suddenly becomes a rivalry like he is trying to portray for Aus vs Ind.

Pak has won 73 matches over India and India has won 54. This shows how good pakistan used to play against Ind in the 90s. But the intensity was still there.

Yes exactly my point. Rivalries are not dependent upon how well two teams are competing, yes it adds to it but even if it isnt there for some years or matches, doesn't mean that historical rivalry is now finished and next two teams who compete well with each other will now form famous rivalry.

I don't understand why people get offended over such comments. You people on here have a right to comment so why doesn't a current cricketer? Furthermore he is an Indian fan when he isn't playing , why shouldn't he believe his team will win a game ?

He is clearly not a BJP supporter.

India is the better team. BUT...no matter what...India vs. Pakistan game still keeps billions on their toes. He is trying to downplay it a bit...everyone in the world knows that Pakistan cricket has the tendancy to hand you a win when they are favorites but also bite you in the behind as underdogs.

For one off pakistan vs. india game, Passion & Nerves > Talent and Form.

India has a perfect record against Pakistan in the world cup. Australia almost has a perfect record agianst India in the world cup.Australia leads by 8-3. One match won by 1 run after India collapsed dramatically in 1987 losing 8 wickets for 60 runs. Anotehr lost by 9 runs where India was on course to win before two back to back run outs undid them. In 1996 India was oncourse to win the match. Suddenly Tendulkar casually walked out against Mark waugh and he threw it wider and got stumped for 90. Many matches were intensely close except 2003 matches, 2015 world cup where India got creamed.

Actually i agree with him. India Australia matches are much more competitive than india Pakistan these days...

Another one was 1992 WC - 1 run win for the Aussies for that rain rule. I think, apart from 2 games in 2003, hardly any IND-AUS WC game has been one sided.

I am talking about him saying India should be confident of beating Pakistan. Why should he not believe his team will win ?

I don't care about him thinking India vs Australia is more intense than India vs Pakistan. That looks bad on us , the team we think are our main rivals think another team is a bigger rival. Just shows how much Pakistan cricket has fallen that a player who has been in the Indian team environment in recent years considers Australia vs India a more intense game.

Caught me here - I had very little memory before 1987, but looks like games even after 1987 were also one sided mostly.
Just trying to set the record straight. :)

You are a wonderful poster...... almost always enjoy your posts.

Still waiting for this so called Indian Shoaib Akhtar to live up to the hype. Looks like another hyped up Atul Sharma

Is he Punjabi speaking as well?

Afridi doesn't speak Punjabi though

How come India and Australia play each other twice in 1987 ?

India and Australia were in same group in 87 WC. Each team played 2 matches against each other before knockout. Similarly Pakistan faced England and West Indies twice and topped the group.
