KPK Public on PTI Performance so far

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has faced a setback in the local government elections held in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) with the candidates of the opposition parties managing to defeat the ruling party nominees in most areas, including the provincial capital.

The local bodies elections were held for the first time after the merger of erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into the province in 2017.

The elections were held in 17 districts, comprising 64 tehsils, on a party-basis as per the ruling of the courts. Out of 64 tehsils, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) headed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman is leading on 18 tehsil chairperson seats, whereas the PTI is trailing behind with 14 seats.

The Awami National Party (ANP) also managed to win nine seats. Independent candidates have bagged nine tehsil chairperson seats as well, the results suggested.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Islehat managed to grab two seats each.

Peshawar setback

The PTI also lost the Peshawar mayor seat to the JUI-F with a wide margin. JUI-F’s Zubair Ali secured 63,388 votes whereas PTI’s Rizwan Bangash secured 50,659 votes.

Out of seven tehsils in Peshawar, the PTI could only win one seat, while the JUI-F and ANP grabbed three and two seats, respectively.

In Mardan, the PTI was wiped out; the JUI-F secured victory in three tehsils and the ANP came in first in two tehsils.

In Bannu, the PTI candidate is in the lead on the mayoral seat. It has also secured the tehsil chairperson slots in Buner, Kagara, Daggar, Gambat and Rustam.

In Charsada, JUI-F’s Hamza Asif secured over 33,000 votes to win the tehsil chairperson slot in Shabqadar. In Tank, the JUI-F secured a win in both tehsils.

In Lakki Marwat’s tehsil Nowrang, JI candidate Haji Aziz got over 17,000 votes to secure the seat for his party.

PTI utterly humiliated by JUI. Beginning of the end for Imran and his incompetent government?

Good to see you happy for JUI taking over - guess seems its your favourite party or are you just happy that you have something else to complain about.

Shameless.

Which party is competent in your opinion? NS or Zardari.

your answer must be within the paradigm of reality, which are 3 parties in Pakistan, PML-N, PPP and PTI.

Fantasy is not a reality, which mean, any party that has no realistic chance to win in next election shouldn't be mentioned as it will be waste of my time and readers time.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that local body elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) have proved once again that his party was the single largest party of the province.

He made these remarks while addressing a press conference along with former Balochistan chief minister Aslam Raisani in Quetta on Monday.

“This election has proved that previous [2018 general elections] were rigged and JUI-F was and still is the largest party of the province,” he remarked.

His statement comes as the ruling PTI faced a setback in the local government elections held in K-P with the candidates of the opposition parties managing to defeat the ruling party nominees in most areas, including the provincial capital.

Fazl said some forces did not want religious parties to come into power due to their ideology.

“Why we [JUI-F] would be unacceptable to the Western world when the United States ‘allowed’ Taliban to take over Afghanistan?” he added.

The JUI-F chief further said the elections results have vindicated their stance that corruption allegations had been used as a tool to victimise opposition parties.

“The practice to defame politicians should end now,” said Fazl, adding that his party could run the affairs of the state better than the ruling PTI.

PESHAWAR: The ruling PTI has decided to challenge the results of Peshawar mayor election after losing it to rivals JUI-F with a wide margin.

According to the unconfirmed and unofficial results, JUI-F’s Zubair Ali won the coveted seat by securing 63,388 votes while PTI’s Rizwan Bangash could only manage to bag 50,659 votes.

PTI’s Peshawar chapter spokesperson Rahat Akbar Mughal said in a statement on Monday that the party will file an application for a vote recount, claiming that the number of rejected votes of PTI exceeded the victory margin of JUI-F candidate.

Referring to a viral video clip, the PTI spokesperson alleged that the rival candidate poured Rs20 million into the elections to win the mayorship of the provincial capital.

Those who lured villagers and neighbourhood councillors with money should be held accountable, he added.

The spokesperson further claimed that the polling process at women's polling stations was deliberately slowed down and the polling staff was also offered bribes.

The ruling party faced a major setback in the local government elections held in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) with the candidates of the opposition parties managing to defeat the ruling party nominees in most areas, including the provincial capital.

PTI tried to pander to the extremist religious parties by rehabilitating TLP but at the end of the day people decided to go for the original extremists rather than wannabe extremists.

Shameless.

You would know that I have no love for mullahs but to see a two-bit corrupt and vile mullah beating the ruling party by a massive margin means that the PTI has lost popular support. I am not sure why you got so triggered over my comment and resorted to personal attacks. I am merely pointing out the elections results. What is so 'shameless' about it? I have the same right as you and others on this forum to voice my opinion. You are free to voice your opinion too without attacking my character.

If I criticise PTI, it does not mean I love the PPP or the PMLN. As I have said many times before, the whole Pakistani political set-up is vile and disgusting.

This is what you get when you appease terror outfits and lack the courage to take bold decisions to stamp out extremism. This is divine justice.

I'm not sad at PTI's loss ( may be a little ) but most depressing aspect is Maulana diesel's party won. Pakistani society will never progress.

The results of the local government (LG) elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are not music to the ears of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PITI) as the opposition parties have managed to defeat the ruling party nominees in most areas, including its stronghold – Peshawar.

The poll results are significant as they represent the will of the people at the grassroots level and are seen as a prelude to the next national election. Yet, it seems, the LG poll results haven’t fully jolted the PTI as the government spokesperson still feels that the prime minister and PTI’s popularity in K-P still intact.

Calling the opposition party leaders “dwarfs”, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Monday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has a high stature and people would neither hand over Pakistan to Bilawal Bhutto, Maryam Nawaz nor Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the next general elections.

“When you gauge options, will you hand over Pakistan to Bilawal and Maryam instead of Imran Khan?” When reminded that the people of K-P have taken a step further by giving a decision in favour of JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the minister said that it were LG elections and “only a fool would take such a decision in the next general elections”.

“All of them are dwarfs,” Fawad said, “Imran Khan has a very high stature and the PTI did not face any challenge in the current situation.” Fawad, while admitting defeat, said that K-P is still PTI’s stronghold as the margin of losing PTI candidates is minimal.

Listing a few reasons of the defeat, the minister admitted that there were differences among the MNAs and MPAs of the party in K-P, which apparently helped others, adding that the mechanism of awarding of tickets was also flawed.

Several PTI candidates were contesting against each other as independent candidates, he said, adding that despite all odds, the PTI was still the highest vote getter.

Fawad said that the poll results had also proved that the PPP and the PML-N were confined to their provinces and they did not exist beyond that. For the first time, he said, independent and transparent elections had taken place, adding there was no such example of happening the same under former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah.

“The credit goes to Imran Khan and the PTI for holding such an election that everyone is accepting the results,” Fawad said. “There is no concept of sitting government losing local government elections because of massive rigging along with Patwari, AC, SHOs running the government’s campaign,” he said, adding that defeat must be accepted and the PTI should move forward.

“Defeat must be accepted to move ahead,” he said. “The PM has fulfilled his promise of giving an empowered local government system.”

The LG elections were held in 17 districts, comprising 64 tehsils, on a party-basis as per the ruling of the courts. Out of 64 tehsils, the JUI-F emerged as the leading party, whereas the PTI was trailing behind.
The biggest upset for the PTI was losing the seat for the coveted post of Peshawar mayor in the first LG elections held in K-P after the merger of tribal districts with it. According to unofficial results, JUI-F's Zubair Ali defeated PTI’s Rizwan Bangash by a margin of around 11,500 votes.

Surprisingly, the Awami National Party (ANP) has made a comeback and managed to win nine seats. Reportedly, independent candidates have bagged nine tehsil chairperson seats as well and the PML-N, PPP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Islehat managed to grab two seats each. The official results are still awaited.

‘PTI competing against itself’

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz maintained that the ruling party lost the polls as “it was competing with itself”. “Had it not been so, we could have won in 14 districts,” he added.

The minister observed that inflation was one of the major factors that inflicted loss in the LG polls.

However, he was optimistic that the PTI would soon rectify its weaknesses and succeed in the second phase of the K-P LG elections.

He said JUI-F Fazl would not emerge in the lead in K-P as “they lack manifesto and have no future in the province. They won votes only in the name of religion”.

If I criticise PTI, it does not mean I love the PPP or the PMLN. As I have said many times before, the whole Pakistani political set-up is vile and disgusting.

I asked you something else and you replied with "I am not in love with flags representing Pakistan", we have already established that and if you aren't in love then why 'copy' and 'paste' same comments in every thread? lol

Politics itself is vile and disgusting but the solution of Pakistan's problem remain in politics.

If IK government is incompetent, as your repeat like a parrot in every thread while also highlighting your generalized comments about Pakistan, then out of 3 major parties, which Party is competent, PML-N or PPP.

Again, no fantasized comment, it has to be realistic.

Terming the victory of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) local bodies elections "unfortunate", Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that he is dismayed at the development, a day after the stunning defeat of the ruling party in the LG polls.

"I am dismayed at Maulana Fazlur Rehman's Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam's win in K-P... it was our mistakes that led to their victory," he said, adding, "The country will plunge deeper into turmoil in the absence of PTI and if parties like Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and JUI-F come into power."

Fawad made the remarks during a media talk following a briefing of the federal cabinet, in Islamabad on Tuesday.

He hoped that the leadership and workers of PTI will take heed from the failure and reorganise themselves.

Calling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, JUI-F chief Fazl and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari "political dwarfs", the minister said, "The PML-N and the PPP don't have political roots among the people."

He went on to say that, "Maryam Nawaz " has always spoken "foolishly".

"It seems from Asif Ali Zardari's talk that he hasn't yet been able to strike a deal; he rushes to please [the powers that be] when he sees any hope but resorts to allegations at his rallies when this isn't the case," Fawad said.

He further noted that "political dwarfs were making attempts to become taller by criticising Imran Khan."

The federal minister advised PTI workers to strengthen Premier Imran. "A competition within the party will only result in the party's defeat," he said and took to Twitter to suggest the same to the workers.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the PTI made ‘mistakes’ in the first phase of K-P local government elections.

He took to his official Twitter handle to admit that his party “made mistakes” and subsequently “paid the price”, attributing the PTI’s loss to “wrong candidate selection”.

“Wrong candidate selection was a major cause,” he added.

The premier further said that he will “personally” be overseeing the PTI’s LG election strategy in the second phase of K-P's local body polls and LG elections across Pakistan.

He hoped that the PTI “will come out stronger”.

PTI losses LG elections in KPK to JUI-F

A day after the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was upset on multiple seats in the first phase of local government elections held in Khyber Pakhtun*khwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said his party "made mistakes" as he pinned the blame of a lackluster poll performance on "wrong candidate selection".

To make sure the mistakes are not repeated, the prime minister said, he would "personally oversee" the party strategy for the second phase of the elections scheduled to be held next month.

"PTI made mistakes in [the] first phase of KP LG elections and paid the price," he tweeted. "Wrong candidate selection was a major cause.

"From now on I will personally be overseeing PTI's LG election strategy in [the] second phase of KP LG elections & LG elections across Pakistan."

Meanwhile, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has urged PTI leadership and workers to set aside their differences and unite under PM Imran's leadership.

"If the PTI is weakened at this time then the country will fall to the wolves," Chaudhry tweeted.

On the other hand, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif termed the PTI's poor performance "an expression of people's anger over the back-breaking inflation, crushing price hike and the meltdown of governance".

"The people of KP have rejected the PTI [...] It is the beginning of the end of an experiment that has cost the nation dearly," he added.

PM Imran and Chaudhry's remarks came on the heels of a dismal performance by the PTI in KP polls that saw it concede ground to the opposition, and especially rival party Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F).

The JUI-F managed to grab the highest number of mayor/chairman seats in the elections for 39 tehsils of KP held on Sunday.

According to the provisional results of 39 of the 63 tehsils declared by the Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday, the JUI-F not only won 15 seats of mayor/chairman but also gave a tough fight in many other tehsils where its candidates stood as runners-up.

In the provincial capital, the JUI-F stunned the PTI and has a definitive lead in the contest for the mayor of Peshawar city. JUI-F candidate Haji Zubair Ali secured 62,388 votes against 50,659 votes secured by PTI’s Rizwan Bangash.

Of the remaining six tehsil chairman seats of Peshawar, the JUI-F managed to clinch four while the PTI could get one seat of tehsil chairman from the provincial capital.

It is for the first time that the JUI-F made its mark in the provincial capital, far from its traditional power base of southern KP. Interestingly, the JUI-F also emerged victorious in Charsadda, beating the Awami National Party (ANP) at the home turf. Also, the JUI-F emerged powerful in Mardan, where its candidate lost the mayor seat to the ANP with a margin of 6,000 votes.

In Mardan, the JUI-F secured three seats and the ANP emerged victorious on two of the five tehsil seats.

In Nowshera, the PTI and ANP grabbed one seat of tehsil chairman each, while the result from the third tehsil was awaited. PTI candidate Ishaq Khattak, son of Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, won the seat by securing over 49,000 votes against the JUI-F candidate who secured over 40,000 votes.

In Swabi, the JUI-F, PML-N and the ANP and the PTI won a tehsil chairman seat each.

Of the three Kohat tehsils, the JUI-F candidate and an independent secured one chairman seat each, while the results of third tehsil were awaited.

In Bannu, the JUI-F emerged victorious in one of the six tehsils, while results of the five remaining tehsils were awaited.

Also, both tehsils of Tank were won by the JUI-F.

However, in Dera Ismail Khan — the hometown of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman — provisional results of four of the six tehsils showed the PTI, Jamaat-i-Islami, PPP and an independent secured one tehsil chairman seat each.

In Buner district, the ruling PTI showed strength by winning four of the six chairman seats. The result of one tehsil was still awaited, while another went to the ANP.

In Haripur, the PML-N got two seats, while the third seat went to an independent.

While results of the remaining tehsils have not been declared, the JUI-F was said to be leading in six tehsils, the PTI in four, independent three, the ANP in two and the PPP in one tehsil.

Reasons for unexpected performances
It is too early to pinpoint the exact reasons for the sudden rise of the JUI-F at this moment. However, political observers believe many factors, including geopolitical shifts battering the region, failures of the ruling PTI and Rehman’s more than three years of efforts to mobilise his electoral base led to this outcome.

Analysts and the inner circle of the JUI-F believe that Rehman’s steady campaign against the prime minister was one of the factors that inspired the people to cast vote in favour of the JUI-F.

“There are several factors, which could be attributed to the better performance of JUI-F, but people fully expressed their lack of trust in the PTI due to its poor governance, inflation and delivery of services,” said Professor Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi, who teaches international relations in the University of Peshawar.

In the first phase, the local bodies’ elections were held in 17 districts of the province on Sunday, while local government polls in the remaining districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be conducted on January 16, 2022.

Good!
In comparison to whatever the previous govt gave to KP public and did for KP public, what PTI did within it's means and resources by providing, healthcare card, very affordable public transportation and highly improved police force and their services. It looks like it was nothing to impress the public.

Let Fazlur Rehman lead. He will create more blood thirsty savages and Aashiqs whose total Islam starts and ends with locking up females at homes and in Burqas.

Where did I say FuR is our saviour? Please point out!

When you said PTI's loss is end of incompetent government then SURELY the winner is considered competent? Very disappointed with plenty of educated people glorifying this hate monger, greedy opportunist Fazlu just because they oppose IK on certain issues.

PTI utterly humiliated by JUI. Beginning of the end for Imran and his incompetent government?

Ground relatives are different, and you will see a difference in second phase of local elections.

Then we will be back to establishment rigging election for PTI :))

So far:
2018 elections - Rigged in PTI's favour
Punjab by elections won by PMLN - Establishment Neutral
GB elections - Rigged by establishment
Cantonment Board elections - PTI lost - Establishment neutral
Kashmir elections - PTI won so establishment rigged
LG elections - Of course Establishment neutral again

:))

Smarting from an electoral rebuke in the ruling party’s stronghold, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mehmood Khan to serve show-cause notices on lawmakers and leaders who turned against the party’s decision and “pedalled out of the party’s folds” during the recently-held local bodies elections.

The directives came following PM Imran’s meeting with the K-P chief minister in the federal capital, wherein the latter presented a report that revealed the underlying reasons for the PTI’s defeat in the local body polls, party insiders said.

The report, submitted in the wake of allegations that some party members had gone against the party’s decisions to favour opponents, laid bare the internal differences and issues related to the allocation of party tickets for the elections.

The report attributes the PTI’s defeat in the first phase of the elections to "mismanagement" and that "workers of the same party contested elections against each other."

Earlier in the day, the premier took to his official Twitter handle to appreciate the silver lining to the otherwise disappointing defeat and said that “amidst the noise over K-P LG [elections] no one realises these elections are the start of modern, devolved LG system as exists in successful democracies.”

However, in the same breath, he admitted that the PTI had made “mistakes” in the local government elections and pinned the blame on "wrong candidate selection”.

He noted that his party had “paid the price” for its mistakes and wrote that he would “personally” be overseeing PTI’s LG election strategy in the second phase of K-P’s local body polls as well as those held across the country.

‘Internal competence’

During the meeting with K-P’s chief, sources said that the premier expressed dissatisfaction over the party's failure in the local body elections and regretted that that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was their [PTI] baseline and the party lost the election due to “internal incompetence.”

Besides, the astonishing report pointed out that the main reason for PTI's defeat, apart from inflation, was major internal differences within the party, with some members of the assembly not supporting the PTI nominees.

It cites "the poor selection of candidates” as one of the factors that led to the electoral setback and notes that the party lacked unity during the first phase of the elections.

Meanwhile, some PTI lawmakers, including Minister for Labour Shaukat Yousafzai, termed inflation as the reason behind PTIs’ defeat in the local body elections.

However, Deputy Speaker K-P Assembly Mehmood Jan went on to call out those who openly went against the party decisions.

“I cannot speak about every district in Peshawar but in my constituency, MNA Noor Alam openly supported the JUI-F candidate and MPA Arbab Waseem supported the independent candidate,” Jan said, regretting that those who won on “bat” [referring to party ticket] had sold their votes for money.

Apart from Alam and Waseem, MNA Nasir Musazai was also seen speaking at a public gathering organized by an independent candidate for Tehsil Badhber.

Musazai alleged that Governor K-P Shah Farman always made his own decisions and never preferred to consult party workers, adding he only awarded party tickets to his “blue-eyed person”.

“My candidate, who contested independently, bagged around 12000 votes, whereas Farman’s man could only secure 7000 votes,” Musazai told The Express Tribune, adding that, “now I will serve them a show-cause notice for refusing to accept my candidate”.

He also stated that if the governor wanted him out of politics, he will contest as an independent candidate if the party denied him a ticket in the next general elections.

The ruling party had faced startling setbacks in most areas with the candidates of the opposition parties managing to defeat its nominees. The PTI lost the Peshawar mayor seat to the JUI-F with a wide margin.

The results of the LG polls in K-P -- ruling PTI’s stronghold -- had come as a shot in the arm for the emboldened opposition parties as they seized on the electoral setback to berate the government.

PTI got what is deserved.

They made JUL the butt of jokes and look what happened:yk

Your such a hypocrite. It wasn't long ago that you claimed that religious extremism is the biggest problem facing PK but as soon your religious extremist wins, you are happy. You are a bigger hypocrite than the Nooras that claim that they want vote ki izzat but whenever IK has tensions with the Millitary, they want a millitary coup. Its the reason you guys get humiliated on here and every else

Pretty disappointing result and alarm bells should be ringing for PTI regarding their defeat in their home ground.

Also pretty poor from people of KPK specially Peshawar. They didn't see BRT's easy travel or free healthcare through Sehat card but instead decided to pick corrupt mullahs. There is also some chatter that this is a roll of the dice by establishment to give FuR a stake in the system and hence quieten him. If this is true then it's pretty pathetic. Our establishment is just a bunch of fumbling buffoons. They always side with the corrupt as they can be controlled (Nawaz and Zardari).

Even though PTI still managed to get the popular vote and bagged 913k votes vs 906k for JUI but this is no excuse for overall shameful result.

I guess Pakistani quam is more suited to having corrupt looters and plunderers as rulers who treat them as sub-humans or rodents. Pakistan se zinda bhag. Glad I left this pathetic country and its worthless citizens.

its the people choice, they can elect whoever they want. No need to be sarcastic.

We Pakistanis dont care who you vote in England.........

Without the $30bn from overseas PK you would be crying 3 fold more than you are now. Quite literally it's our efforts that are keeping PK afloat because we send the money, you guys vote for people that launder it back.

As far as the election is concerned, its your hypocrisy that is galling. Apparently Religious guys are good when they beat Kaptaan but bad when they challenge you. Lol

Lol that just exposed your understanding of economics.

They send the money to their families but the currency they send it in is USD which guess what the Pakistani government cannot print, but it needs it to fund the import bill. So without the $30b from overseas Pakistanis the Pakistani government won't be able to buy the petrol that your car runs on or the edible oil that your food is cooked on.

So sit down son and have some respect. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Immy lost to jui out of all the parties :)))

So the "Liberal" is happy. Good on you son. Hypocrites cannot change, its in their blood.

Btw
Well he didn't. He won the vote, look at the total votes and that's with a low turnout. What happened to the Nooras and PPP, aren't they supposed to be national parties?:qdkcheeky

That's true but if they didn't, what would happen to the Rp. The PK rp would be close to 350. The reality is that our hard earnt money is then returned by your crooks. Do you think that Rockingham and Avenfield are charity venues?

I don't know what you think liberalism means.

Being liberal is being open minded.

The people voted and elected jui.

The same jui that immys party was making jokes about.

Whats even more funny is that immy was qouted as saying we are still the 2nd largest party in kpk :))

I have a question, a serious one.

I always here from pti fans that pti has changed kpk they have done alot of work tbis and that, now even peshawar is a different city.

Why did pti lose lg elections? Lg are directly related to the work local govt does in the districts.

I have seen how dirty that canal was even during ptis time

And the hate that anp gets why is it that it still won some places?

The 1st reason is the low turnout. Normally the turnout is around 50% and you will see in the General election that when the turn out is higher, they will win. The single biggest issue is inflation and has mostly international roots and some local profiteering by businesses. Kaptaan should have used more under hand tactics to deal with local mafias( the track and trace system should have been brought in much earlier) but there isn't much he can do about the price of oil and gas which is the main reason for the rise current account deficits in the last few months. People live in the present and don't really care much for the future, like you and [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION] they dont understand how an exchange rate is determined and you guys are supposedly "educated".

Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to dissolve all PTI organisations across the country after suffering an embarrassing defeat in the recently held first phase of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry made the announcement on Friday during a press conference in Islamabad. He was speaking to the media after a meeting of the party's senior leadership that was chaired by the premier.

According to Chaudhry, the prime minister had expressed dissatisfaction over the party's performance in KP local body polls. He said that according to the results of the elections in village councils, the PTI was still the "biggest party in the province".

"But the way tickets were awarded [...] PTI does not believe in dynastic politics. PM Imran has never let his personal relations affect his mission."

He said that candidates should be awarded party tickets on merit, which is the opposite of what happened in the PML-N and PPP. "If that culture seeps into the PTI, there will be no difference between us and them," he said, adding that the premier had voiced his anger over this.

"We are receiving complaints that in different areas party tickers were distributed among family members disregarding merit," he said.

He said that the PTI leadership also debated the about the party's organisational structure. He said that the way the PTI — one of the major political parties of the country — should have participated in the local government polls was not evident on ground.

Therefore, the prime minister — after consulting with the party leadership — has decided to dissolve all organisations from the centre to the tehsils, he said. "Chief organisers and all office bearers have been removed from their positions," he said.

"It has also been decided that the local leadership will not award party tickets when it comes to their relatives. A special committee will be formed where the case will be forwarded and it will decide whether or not to award the ticket."

Chaudhry said that a separate committee had been constituted which would include himself, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Communication and Postal Services Minister Murad Saeed, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Energy Minister Hammad Azhar, Minister for Industries and Production Khusro Bakhtiar, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Planning Minister Asad Umar and others.

According to the minister, the committee had been tasked with proposing a new constitution and party structure. He added that the KP chief minister had also been tasked with meeting the local leadership and devising a mechanism for awarding tickets for the second phase of the local government polls.

Chaudhry said a formal report of the KP local government election results had not been presented to the prime minister because the results in village councils were still being compiled.

In the elections held in the 17 districts of KP on December 19, the PTI, which has been in power in the province since 2013, showed a dismal performance, conceding ground to the the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F).

According to the provisional results of 47 of the 63 tehsils declared by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the JUI-F won 17 seats of mayor/chairperson while the PTI came in second by securing 12 seats. Independent candidates grabbed the third highest number of seats at seven, followed by Awami National Party at six, PML-N at three and Jamaat-i-Islami, PPP and Tehreek-i-Islahat Pakistan bagging one seat each.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the Punjab government and PTI leadership to begin homework for the upcoming local government elections in the province, adding he would personally oversee the preparations.

During a meeting with government officials and the political leadership in Punjab at the Chief Minister secretariat, the premier acknowledged that wrong selection of candidates had led to the party’s defeat in its stronghold of KP.

“The government and party leadership should strictly select candidates on merit and avoid dynastic politics, which was exposed after causing damage to the party in KP,” sources quoted PM Imran as saying.

“The mistakes made in KP must not be repeated in Punjab,” he stressed. With candidates selected on merit, he said, the PTI would give a tough time to its opponents in the local government elections in Punjab.

The sources quoted him as saying that his party organised the KP local bodies elections in a free and fair manner as it neither tried to hijack the polls nor alleged any foul play even after losing. Instead, the sources said, the prime minister had taken his party members to task for promoting dynastic politics and not selecting candidates on merit.

Still, the sources quoted PM Imran as saying, the PTI was the second largest party in KP, while the PML-N and PPP had been wiped out of the province.

The prime minister asked the government and party leaders to take senior and old party leaders in the loop and hold consultations for contesting the Punjab LG elections with full vigour. The premier said he wanted to hold the elections at the earliest so that power and funds could be devolved at the grassroots and the masses’ problems resolved at their doorsteps.

Punjabis( I am also Punjabi) love dynasties. It's the reason the Nooras are salivating at the prospect of Junaid after Maryam. Plans are also being made for Junaids children and grand children to be served by the serfs.

hmm, thus it shows even you dont know why the lost.....

All teh reasons you mentioned above would make sense had PTI lost provincial elections.

These were LG elections, LG elections have nothing to do with Inflation and more to do with how much work is being done in the local bodies and whether there issues at a local level are being resolved or not.

The voters that turn out in these elections are those awaam taht known what is happening in their union council at all times.

lol just because your party lost an lg election you are now getting personal :)

Again, this is democracy. The same people of KPK which you lot thought were the enlighten one when PTI won the lgs back than are now being critisized because they didnt chose your party.

They know the performance at the local level, thus democracy elected them......

Besides, many of your oversseas Pakistanis might not be aware but JUI has always had a hold on LG politics. Their student groups are the biggest student union that exist all around Pakistan.

PTI's politics revolves around Tiger Force. They only give tickets to those at local level if they are part of Tiger Force.

Had PTI done a good job at local level they probably would had won in KPK LGs.

Anyways, this is democracy. The people voted who they thought was better.

Inflation along with a poor turnout are the only reasons. Based on your logic, when they win it will show amazing work they have done. Lets see.

BTW
Why have the Nooras and PPP done so badly, are they just regional parties, based around Punjab and Sindh?

A day after the dissolution of the party's organisational bodies, Prime Minister Imran Khan revamped on Saturday the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as he appointed its new secretary general and provincial presidents.

In a tweet, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry revealed that the premier has appointed Planning Minister Asad Umar as PTI's secretary general whereas Amir Mehmood Kiyani will take charge as additional secretary general of the party.

Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak will lead the PTI in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Zaidi will be its Sindh president, Qasim Suri will head the Balochistan chapter, whereas Shafqat Mehmood and Khusro Bakhtiar will head Punjab and south Punjab chapters of the party.

A day earlier, following a defeat in K-P's local government elections, PM Imran had abolished the intra-party structures and removed all office holders, including chief organisers.

He had expressed dissatisfaction over his party’s performance, especially the “nepotism” in the recent local government elections in which it lost several seats.

Fawad had said the premier had formed a 21-member committee, comprising senior leaders of the party, who had been assigned the task of restructuring and formulating a new party constitution.

During the presser, the minister had drawn parallels between the PTI and other opposition parties. “There is no concept of family politics in the PTI as PM Imran has never allowed personal relationships to dominate his mission in his political as well as cricketing careers,” he had said.

“If the culture of the PPP and PML-N comes to the PTI, there will be no difference between them and us.”

'Mistakes in K-P polls'

After the defeat in the local bodies elections, PM Imran had admitted that the PTI had made ‘mistakes’ in the first phase of the elections and pinned the blame on "wrong candidate selection”.

The premier took to his official Twitter handle to admit that his party had “paid the price” for its mistakes and wrote that he would “personally” be overseeing PTI’s LG election strategy in the second phase of K-P’s local body polls as well as those held across the country.

The premier’s tweet had come in the wake of the ruling PTI suffering a major blow as the JUI-F cruised to victory with its candidate grabbing the pivotal post of the Peshawar mayor in the first phase of the local government elections held in K-P since the merger of tribal districts.

Out of seven tehsils in Peshawar, the PTI could only win council, while the JUI-F and ANP grabbed victory in three and two councils, respectively. In Mardan, the PTI was wiped out while the JUI-F secured victory in three tehsils and the ANP came in first in two tehsils, according to the unofficial results reported at the time.

In all, 12.668 million voters — seven million male and 5.5 million female — were registered for the local government election in the 17 K-P districts namely Buner, Bajaur, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Tank, Haripur, Khyber, Mohmand, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu and Lakki Marwat.

LAHORE: Workers of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) have reacted sharply to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision of dissolving the party’s organisational structure and expressed concern over the appointment of federal ministers as new party officials whom they believe are the root cause of the debacle in the recent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government elections.

Meanwhile, a federal minister said the PM has introduced the new structure to re-organise and reactivate the party so that active contact could be established with workers and voters at the grassroots. He further said the party model had also been changed.

PM Khan, who is also the PTI chairman, has appointed Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Asad Umar as the party’s central secretary general, former federal minister Amir Mahmood Kiyani as the additional secretary general, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood as the Punjab president, Industries and Production Minister Khusro Bakhtiar as the south Punjab president, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak as the KP president, Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi as Sindh president and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri as the Balochistan president.

Maintaining that only those who faltered should have been punished rather than putting everyone in the dock, party leaders say it was high time that their morale was boosted. “We are unable to understand the wisdom behind dissolving party organisations across the country by a high-powered core committee headed by party chairman Imran Khan,” a disgruntled party leader in Punjab said.

Expressing fears over the decision, senior party leaders in Punjab were of the view that the PTI could face major challenges ahead of the upcoming local government elections and eventually the general elections, and dissolving functional systems would not help the party.

“The party lost LG elections in KP because of the government’s failure to ensure clean governance and the mismanagement at the hands of top parliamentarians, who helped their favourites get tickets. But, instead the party organisers have been punished,” another senior leader lamented.

Reacting to the appointment of federal ministers as party heads in the Centre and provinces, a PTI leader claimed these ministers had failed to justify their performance in their respective domains and had now been assigned additional duties. “The government functionaries have assumed political responsibilities too and apparently all issues will be resolved now,” a senior leader taunted. “Government functionaries were responsible for poor governance, but it’s the political workers who have been removed from their leadership roles with a stroke of a pen.”

A founding member, who did not have a leadership role in the party, said the PTI comprised millions of members, but surprisingly some workers had been given multiple assignments.

Reacting to the appointment of Shafqat Mahmood as the PTI Punjab president, a provincial leader said the party had lost the previous local government elections under the leadership of the education minister.

When contacted, Mr Mahmood said the premier had created the new formation to re-organise and reactivate the party at grassroots. “We are here to reorganise the party to meet the future electoral challenges,” he said.

The party, he said, would be re-organised at the district, tehsil and union council levels and involve all those active members who were earlier ignored. Mr Mahmood said the premier had changed the party model as well, as earlier there was no provincial president here, while now he had been appointed as the PTI’s Punjab president and Khusro Bakhtiar as the south Punjab head.

“This kind of change will also be seen in the party’s reorganisation,” he added.

To another question about him heading the PTI in Lahore when the party lost the LG elections, Mr Mahmood said, “There is a great difference between 2015 and 2021.” He claimed to have organised the party in Lahore very well and given tickets to candidates fairly.

When contacted, Punjab government spokesman Hasaan Khawar said PM Khan had taken the decision of dissolving the party organisations to bring discipline and solving teething issues. There was a serious discussion in the party’s core committee on the issue and the decision was based on collective wisdom. “The already serving party leaders may get their slots back after review of the organisation,” he maintained.
