What must this guy do get a bloody game? Amazing FC stats as well. Should he have played ahead of Ryan "all-rounder" McLaren? Same thing happened with that other Saffer bowler who played against England- Friedel de Vet. He just vanished. Then there is de Lange who has played just two tests and done well.

Does Abbott not get a game cause he looks a bit like GOB Bluth crossed with Nicolas Cage?

Saffers prefer playing Kleinveldt and Mclaren over Abbott,De lange,Hendricks,Morris etc for some strange reason. Heck even Morkel's place in the team is questionable. Only Steyn and Philander are automatic selections in the attack imo.

Its not about luck or anything. Its about the make up of the team.
If the all rounder experiment fails then we might see a specialist batsman slotted @7, if not AB will be stripped of the gloves and allowed to play as a specialist batsman @5, with De Kock @7. Its highly unlikely that we will see an extra (specialist/strike) bowler in the side, by all accounts it will be a last resort should it happen.

Don't know how the likes of Kleindvelt and Parnell are considered before him.

Even if they selected Mclaren bcoz of his all-round skills i wud have selected Abbott in place of Morkel then.

This guy would walk into every side bar Australia and South Africa. I have seen him bowl in Ram Slam and this guy is quality with the ball. Swings it late with the new ball, bowls a quick bumper and then comes back at the death to bowl accurate inswinging yorkers. He should atleast play ODIs and T20 for SA and should be the stand by seamer in tests.

That way, Manoj Tiwari of india is unlucky as well..

HE scored a 100 in the last ODI before he was benched & then dropped out of the squad eventually

May be that 10fer was against a brittle Pak batting line up so that could be the reason

But these hard done players are there in every country

Fawad Sadaf (Pak) Tiwary (Ind) Russell (WI) C.Ferguson (Aus)

Ferguson is just mediocre.

Russell and Ferguson are LOI cricketers at best.

Other three can be compared with Abbott as they excel in the longer format of the game.

Fawad is probably the unluckiest of them all. Him not getting a chance in a brittle batting line up is mind-boggling to say the least.

I know T20 is not as same as test, but Abbott was taken to cleaners by Hafeez and Shehzad in the next international game he played. He failed to impress in the 2 ODIs he played next. so perhaps his singular test performance was somewhat seen as fluke.

Can imagine if he was a Pakistani player and he was dropped after such a performance. The first is always the captain doesn`t like him but the other reasons could be..........................................

T20 is misleading. Even Steyn has gotten thrashed around in a couple. In ODIs, he has played 2 with mediocre returns but with a decent economy rate. Maybe, he could be taken in place of Morkel in case Morkel misfires.

Very good bowler, but I feel, he is a bit condition dependent bowler. On his ideal wicket, he is really good - took 9 wickets against PAK on debut, now another 9 against AUS. But, in between he has 12 wickets in 6 Test at a high average, therefore his drop was probably not unjust. In a 3 pacer strategy, he actually doesn't come ahead of Styen or Rabada - Vernon is almost identical type bowler with a better batting skill, probably a bit better bowling skill as well, hence it's fair enough. SAF's seem/pace attack is too good, Morne & Abbot probably will make most XI in other teams.

Real beast, there was a "who do you think are the top pacers in today's world" thread before this series and he was my top 2 picks.

Underrated coming into this series, but even by his first game where he took us apart in SAF (again when Dale was injured) it was apparent that he was made for this level.

Been a fringe player given that Steyn was always in the squad, but I think CSA missed a trick by not playing him in ODIs where he's better than Steyn, which may have at least helped in keeping Steyn injury free.

Seems to be a super-sub type bowler so far.. when he gets odd game here and there and there is no real expectation on him to perform he takes a stack load of wickets.. when hes played a few games together hes struggled. Am sure he will get a chance and long run in the side and this is where he needs to show real consistency and show he belongs at this level.

He's a good bowler nothing more nothing less. He's definitely one of the better bowlers on conductive tracks. Though the level of his performances on conductive pitches is yet to be seen on flat tracks.

SA are spoiled for choice in the fast bowling department. Steyn, Rabada, Philander, Morne and Abott.
