Lahiru Kumara - Sri Lankan fast bowler

Lahiru is 19 only and is strongly built. He has only played 5 Fc matches and out of those 5 two are Test matches.

He averages 52 with the ball in Fc Cricket but Srilankan sekectors picked him after he just played 3 Fc matches and had taken 6 wickets only.


In the Current Test he bowled 25 overs in first innings and his average speed was 85.1 mph and he is the only pacer as per CI Hawkeye who has touched 90mph mark while Rabada did not touch 90mph yet. Most importantly Kumara has taken 6 wickets.


Srilanka has found two good pacers in shape of :


1. Right Arm Fast 24 years old Dushmantha Chameera &

2. Right Arm Fast Medium 19 years old Lahiru Kumara


With 21 years old 6'7 Left Arm Fast Medium Binura Fernando making the squad in future their Fast bowling will be further strengthened.


Avishka Fernando will strengthen their batting in couple of years.

What are his speeds? It is about time Srilanka had some good fast bowlers. Athletically they are much ahead of Indians and Pakistanis as you can see from their sprint performances in South Asian games and even in Olympics.

You got to take risk with young fast bowlers

Domestic cricket in SL or Pakistan isn't conductive for fast bowlers. It only makes them worse. Pakistan pitches doesn't require much effort to bowl with ball moving miles. The quality of batsman they bowl to isn't much to talk about.

Idenitify young fast bowlers, get them in the Pakistan system as quickly as possible. Induct them first in limited format along with four day cricket for Pakistan A. They also need to be monitored after every month by NCA to see the progess.

Shaheen would have been a 130 kph trundler if we had played 2 or 3 years domestic cricket. Don't turn Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Hasnain into trundlers as well

Absolute Tank! Proper fast bowler is this guy. Great build, smooth run up and strong action. 150kmh bowler, and is only 23 years old. He’s been going for a few in this game but so has Nortje earlier, however he has bowled some extremely hostile lines and has beaten some quality batsmen with pace and bounce.

This is brilliant!

He is quick at 140 plus klicks on average, but he needs to kick on in terms of setting batsmen up.

At present I feel he just lacks that incisiveness/ unplayability that the very best have. He's only 23 so I'm sure he has time to really develop.

What I'm more concerned about is how long he can sustain such pace with his build and obvious weight. I'm not saying he's fat by any stretch but that size concerned me.

Exceptions like Marshall aside, most fast bowlers who have longer careers are whippet like. They can be big, but tend to be on the lean side.

This guy - I can barely imagine all that explosive force being generated on his knees and ankles at his speeds when he stamps in.

What happened to Chameera ? Saw him bowl at 149 vs India couple of years ago. New SL guys come in and just dissappear. Kumara looks a little chubby for a very fast bowler. Should trim down but a big unit.
