Lahore High Court suspends Hanif Abbasi's life imprisonment sentence, orders release

He was falsely convicted and LHC must be applauded for not bowing down to this reign of terror and fascism.

The only way this which-hunting can be resisted is if the higher and lower judiciary stand firm.

LHC continues to show that there is hope for this country yet.

"Falsely convicted". Can you let us know how you reached that conclusion?

Because he has been told by someone. This case was started in 2011 when the Noora and PPP loot coalition was in power and Powdri was part of the Noora govt so he couldnt claim conspiracy.

This country is a joke for world. Peoples get jailed on double sawari & drug mafia smugglers get released from the same judges. I remember a similar case on gilani's son was also very popular, I don't know it's result but I am sure he might have been released by the court too.

Hanif Abbassi is a crook. Hate him to the guts.

I dont know whether he was guilty in this case or not, but remember one thing, the guy got arrested only after making anti millitary remarks.

In developing countries, its almost impossible to keep drug dealers behind the bar for long, Pakistan is no exception. Wish Pakistan had laws like Iran for drug dealers, death penalty, no less.

you really dont know who is corrupt and who is not; and there are stages of corruption someone is more corrupt than other;

in this case looks like the prosecutors did not do their job properly; was it deliberately or just pure incompetence I dont know

There has to be some sort of check and balance on these judges where their assets and bank account details are made public. Some of the decisions they make are simply mind boggling. Pakistani Society has too many loop holes corruption and a methodology needs to be found to have a check and balance on everything.

his conviction is not overturned, he is out on bail while appealing his conviction.
it is of course ridiculous that someone sentenced for life is not considered a flight risk and is allowed to cool his heels outside prison while he contests the conviction.

For a little bit of background...there is an international governing body that tracks the medicinal requirement of narcotics or narcotics ingredients across the globe. The global average tends to about 14 to 16 kg annually.
Pakistan has been coming in at just under 50 kg.
This is ephedrine and pseudoephedrine combined. Pseudoephedrine is a key component of making crystal meth. Either way Abbasi's company has been ensnared in this from the 2011.

I hope to God that a situation never arrives where someone's life is dependant on your actions.

LHC is becoming a joke. There are dozens of high court judges, yet this woman justice is there to the rescue of N league in every other case.

She was also in the bench that stopped Model Town incident Investigation.

Then we had LHC chief justice hearing the case on weekend and delivering the copies of the bail and his decision on the same day, so that NAB could not arrest Hamza!

LHC is doing some amazing things.

Justice Khosa seems powerless in the face of the mafia.

Aur Noon league aur beneficiary group Ephedrine k fazaail bayaan kar rahay hain aur Najam Sethi aur Hamid Mir jaisay dodgy characters sab ko bata rahay hain k Hanif Abbasi kitna Sharif insana hai

Seriously how low are these people going to stoop?

This case was made in 2012. Hanif Abassi was pleading the Courts next 5 years to decide his case and give ruling but they did not.

In the meantime Rawalpindi Metro, RIC, numerous grounds were built under his supervision successfully. Just as he was pitched against Sheikh Rasheed and was out to defeat the “ Pindi Boy ” few days before elections all of a sudden out of nowhere ANF woke up and sentenced him.

Hanif Abassi’s major sins were that he showed balls to power centres. Stood up and filed 2-3 cases against Imran Khan, Jahangir Tareen & PTI.

This annoyed the fathers and Hanif Abassi ko sabaq sikhaya.

He suffered a heart attack during his Jail term and could have died but he survived.

History will not forgive and forget all these happenings.

I'm a touch confused maybe knowledgeable p'peers on here would share some more light on this case. My original understanding was that he was given life sentence because he was a responsible party in supplying a recreational drug particularly through colleges and students hampering a lot of lives for the worst. He made money out of this trade which led to this decision.

So is he not responsible then? Or basically he has now been given some sort of a bail to gather more evidence to prove his innocence? If he is innocent then which judge passed the verdict on his case? What has been the fallout on the judge? Would Hanif Abbasi file for any compensation now?

It would also be good to know from local Rawalpindi based posters as to how deep rooted is the drug related problems in there. And from local posters it would be good to get an understanding of how this problem got started and what is the root cause of the supply.

I see posters above mainly making political statements, but drug abuse is a serious problem with serious consequences and whoever is involved in it should be tried and tested.

More lies from the liar in chief. Who was in power when the cases were filed? How do you sleep at night?

Rawalpindi's drug problem has become a sociological problem.

Its funny that while the upper class and the lower class are quite differnt in Pakistan, and with the lower class calling the upper class as mummy daddy and all, but both classes have 1 thing in common and that is drugs.

From my point of view the main reason behind the drug problem in Pindi/Islamabad has been cigarette.

Back in the day when i was studying in roots, everyone was trying to fit it. Everyone wanted to be identified as the cool kid. Even the nerdiest guy would be smoking cigs just to impress other guys or girls.

Now once you get hooked up to cigs, the next thing is chars. Hashish. This thing is wayy too common in Pakistan. Infact, rolling paper is sold every in Pindi.

In Pakistan there is a habit of placing labels on each other. Labels like "mummyDaddy", "burger Bacha" are used quite alot. Even some educted posters on this forum use this term on here aswell.

Usage of such terms also create problems aswell. People here act deviant so that they dont get labelled and are considered cool.

I dont know about other drugs that much, but i know that usage of chars is VERY VERY VERY common.

And once you have done chars, then we have got ecstacy pills aswell. Now these pills are used here just to party. I dont know how common the pills are.

Most of the chars comes from KPK

Now drugs like ecstasy, cocain etc are on the rise aswell, but i dont know much about it as its not as common as how chars is.

While there is another drug that people do here and females do it alot, its calld EC spray. You spray it on the cloth, then inhale it and its a high of few seconds.

Hanif abbasi is a ****, but to be honest the reason why he was thrown in jail was because he made some statements and slogans agaisnt the military.

I know Hanif Abbasi is a filthy, corrupt and despicable person but he is still my hero because he spoke against Army.

Fazl ur Rehman is Islam farosh extremist but he is my hero because he spoke against Army.

PTM leadership is racist calling over half population dal khor kaaliya but they are my hero because they curse the Army.

Altaf Hussain is a murderer, terrorist, misogynist, RAW agent but i still have love for him because he abuses Army.

And of course we all know Nawaz Sharif and Zardari are most corrupt people in our history but we still love both because they now speak against Army.

I really despise this mentality and can't understand why we can't criticize people for their actions and judge them for what they are? Of course people like Zia were curse to the nation just like Nawaz and Zardari, doesn't matter fauj or civilian they should be criticised for their own actions??

Thanks for the post it gives some good insights. If we stick to topic, do you think Hanif Abbasi had any implicit involvement in the spread of drug abuse in Rawalpindi? If yes, don't you think he should be tried and tested for hampering young lives through drugs?

We can all sit from comfort of our homes and make political statements like he was put in jail for speaking against army, he was politically victimised, etc. But the bottomline is if he is involved in spreading drugs across the city then its a severe crime and he is not a victim but in fact a criminal. It seems like we always ignore the big picture that is Pakistan and have more loyalties with the political parties.

pretty much that .you sum up well

Its hard to keep drug dealers behind the bar for long, even in developed countries with more transparent judiciary system, no surprise is he is free in a corrupt country like Pakistan.

Money, particularly drug money can buy anything.

One thing is common among your "heroes" , they are responsible for killing a large number of people, either by drugs or by violence or target killing.

Drug dealers are hanged in many countries for a reason, drugs kill millions.
