Lahore Qalandars has taken strong notice of the recently reported incident dated March 28 concerning an alleged breach of security protocol involving its players.

The franchise promptly initiated a comprehensive internal review to establish the facts and ensure that all actions remain aligned with the standards and regulations governing the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Following this review, Lahore Qalandars confirmed that an isolated incident did occur at the team hotel; however, it has been overstated in public discourse and amplified beyond its actual context.

In the interest of maintaining discipline and demonstrating accountability, the franchise has taken a voluntary and proactive step by imposing a fine of PKR 1 million on Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement. Lahore Qalandars has also formally communicated a detailed response, along with its observations on the matter, to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The franchise expressed its sincere appreciation for the efforts of security personnel, recognising their essential role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for players, officials, and spectators.

While underscoring that the matter arose from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate attempt to violate established procedures, Lahore Qalandars reiterated its full respect for all security protocols.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and emphasised the importance of continued clarity and alignment in the communication of protocols to prevent similar situations in the future.

Lahore Qalandars also expressed regret over the undue public attention surrounding the incident, noting its impact on the reputation of both the franchise and the broader PSL. The organisation emphasised that the matter was unnecessarily escalated, affecting the league’s image at both domestic and international levels.

Reiterating its unwavering respect for established security frameworks, Lahore Qalandars called for balanced and responsible reporting and reaffirmed its commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and full cooperation with all governing authorities.

Lahore Qalandars will not make any further comment on this matter.

This statement is just for public consumption. Don't believe LQ will ever fine Shaheen Afridi such an amount.

Maybe it's PCB that's extorting the amount through LQ 😝

As directly taking fines from Shaheen can upset Shahid Afridi who is the good books of current administration.

Security breach lol. Why not just install jail-bars outside the players' hotel rooms?

One thing this incident has proven though is that PCB was lying through their teeth when they said the tournament was being held behind closed doors because of 'austerity'.

Everyone knows full well now that there are security concerns that they lied to everyone about.

Now they are running the PSL like an army camp too lol. The funny thing is that Sikander Raza said that the blame for the incident lies on him, not Shaheen. So were LQ and PCB too cowardly to punish a foreign player and decided to scapegoat Shaheen?

notice how its on Afridi and not on Raza?

Basically they wanted to show Punjab police they are taking action, so they decided to impose fine on Afridi. Raza would had challenge this, even though LQ will return the money back in some other way. So Afridi took the fall.

I dont think this was related to PCB, but more so related with Punjab Police

Keeping aside the context, a security breach regardless of the situation deserves a ban or a harsher punishment. A sensitive security zone has strict protocols, you don’t cross it means you don’t cross it, regardless of how unreasonable they sound.

That depends, who laid down the security protocol. PCB or Punjab Police?

Punjab police doesnt have authority to ban a player.

It doesn’t work that way. A protocol breach already comes with a list of potential punishments. It is never like, we will figure out the punishment when that actually happens or look at the context.

Even more so in a sensitive zone like Pak which has a lot of security protocols and checks.

If there are punishments that afridi can contact his lawyer and appeal the fine.

But the issue was punjab police, not pcb in this case

They had to do something to show they were taking this seriously. Anything else would have created an impression that security / integrity is optional at PSL. It doesn’t even matter who ends up paying the fine, it’s the optics that is more important here than any fine or “action”.
