The guy looks like a grandpa compared to what he was in his prime. More than his form, what i find disgraceful is his attitude. I mean just look at his belly, the way he just ambles into the wicket, and bowls harmless 127-130 km/hr floating yorkers, slower ball yorkers or bouncers or 127-130 km/hr bouncers

Is Sri lanka seriously short of talent that they have to rely on him?

Looks like he's strapped his IPL money around his waist. That can be the only explanation.

Always thought he was vastly overrated as an IPL specialist. At international level all he did was bowl well at the death.

Problem is the young SL pacers chameera and Kumara may be quick, but they got 7 to 8 rpo in ODIs. Hence they have an all grandpa attack with Lakmal and Pradeep.

He is the main reason for their loss. Just did not maintain pressure at the end.

He almost won it for SL.

He actually lost it for them in his final over. Just did not maintain any sort of pressure at all and was too predictable with his slower ball yorkers and slower ball bouncers, i mean he bowled 3 consecutive slower ball dipping yorkers to Sarfaraz at a crucial stage giving him easy runs.

It wasn't his fault that the fielders couldn't hold onto those catches.

I dont know. He did very well against Malik. Commentators were saying "he is throwing everything he is got"

I agree. He is past it. Look at the belly. Should retire now and let youngsters shine!

A bit of respect due. He didn't bowl badly and twice created the chances to remove Sarfraz.

He didn't lose SL the game.

He created chances but others dropped them. Its similar to amir creating chances and others dropping it.

he did well today. Yes he isnt the Malinga of old but he created two chances to get rid of Sarfraz and win SL the game. The fact his fielders bottled it isnt a slight on Malinga.

He did his best and this was his final match in Sri Lankan colours.

Best wish for him, will miss watching him bowl.

Will miss him and I feel sorry for him tbh, put in 200% and his fielders failed him multiple times. He was the few Lankans who looked like they knew what they were doing.

What kind of a thread is this? He is a great bowler who doesn't deserve to play for a team like Sri Lanka.

The guy had like 20 catches dropped off him and his selection was rubbish :)) what kind of moronic logic is this :irfan, had those been taken then it would have been Malinga who'd have lead his side to the semi-finals. Anyway, true servant for Lankan cricket and thanks to him for all the performances over the years he truly is one of a kind; still feels like yesterday when he got 4 in 4 during the 2007 WC game vs SA

What I loved about him was there wasn't any real anger or frustration shown. He just shook his head and walked back to bowl again. Malinga is one of the all time great limited over bowlers. How he controls the ball with his slinger action I will never figure out. He's had a lot of injuries too but a great competitor , never feared any batsmen and gave it 100% every time. I hope he comes to the PSL next season.

My point was that his fitness is disgraceful and just by watching his bowling you get the idea that he is not even remotely the same bowler he used to be.

That would be awesome! hope a contract is offered to him! and I totally agree with you, no doubt that he is an ATG when it comes to the limited forms; has lost a bit of pace now but still remains a threat due to his guile but during his prime was unplayable with the extra yards of pace and innovation of variation when it came to length and speed  And a top fella as well like you say! Will cry when he calls it a day, would truly be end of an era when it comes to lankan cricket with his departure :(

He's got a very good attitude on the field.

Just off the field he's added too much weight.

Gave 2 fingers to Test cricket and was too much money hungry.

Could have been a top class bowler in all formats had he set long term goals and not look for easy short term gain.

Created many opportunities but he is finished as a bowler. He doesn't look remotely fit enough. He was struggling in the last over.

He suffered a knee injury which kept him out of the ODI team for a year and half. It's only sensible he thought about sustaining his career for as long as possible.

Yeah that's probably down to poor fitness, lazy attitude and diet off the field.

He was too focused on IPL and easy money.

Not to say he was a very good death bowler in ODIs. He will always be remembered for this aspect.

But he could have achieved much more.

He bowls his heart out and would have won it for sl if not for the pathetic fielding, compare him with our seniors who are playing for 10 years+ .

OP needs to calm down a bit. Show some respect man. He almost won the match for his team. Sarfraz was dropped twice of his bowling. Oh wait, is this a sarcastic thread?

Good enough to dismiss Malik: according to some, our best bat

Legendary ODI bowler.

13th all time in most wickets.

One of Sri Lanka's best pacers ever. You can argue that he is even the greatest.

Best Limited Overs bowler of all time.

Some people say they grew up watching Wasim Akram. Some people say Glenn McGrath. Some say Alan Donald.

No. I grew up watching Malinga. Would use to copy his action all the time.

He had it all. Out-swing, in-swing, reverse swing, bouncers, cutters. Had the best slower ball I have ever seen. Could bowl it at any length and it dipped in at an insane angle.

Awesome bowler. Was great to watch him today.

Had catches been held off his bowling, Sri Lanka most probably would have won this game. They almost did

This OP does come up with some ridiculous threads. And unfortunately, he creates more threads than he should. No class, no respect and no thought process behind all this keyboard action.

Malinga bowled well and had 2 dropped catches. At the age of 33, he was arguably Sri Lanka's best bowler on show. And before you make fun of his lack of fitness. Trust me, if you had the knee injuries that the poor guy has had you wouldn't leave your hospital bed let alone be playing cricket for your national team.

Pakistan needed 11 runs in 6 overs and you're talking about maintaining pressure.

Malinga was a champion. Best ODI bowler from Asia ever. In time, Fizz will pass him but now, Malinga is #1.

He is a legend, has done more than enough for SL. You can't blame the SL selectors because their bowling lacks quality and experience, as long as Malinga is able to bowl at a competitive level, they will look to incorporate him in ICC tournaments.

Malinga's fitness (or the lack of it)

ok, i often worry about the fitness standards of Pakistani players but some of the sri lankan cricketers have appalling physiques for being proper athletes.

Mathews despite being a super talented batsman doesn't look like a good athlete.

but all aside, look at malinga in this picture. how and why?

Did very well for his country today. Still a decent bowler and had the catches off his bowling been held he would have won it for Sri Lanka, what a stupid thread.
