He served a lot this nation, this country and Pakistan cricket. Surely he has given some golden memories to us, let's appreciate him for his goods.

Share any of his best performance e.t.c which brought happiness to you.
He was the one who made us T20's champion in 2009, when Pakistan was under attack of heavy terrorism, there was none of a single good news in cricket, we were behind in every sports. But from no where, this man lead us in T20 WC and finally made us proud.

( This thread is for appreciation, so if you can contribute then most welcome, but no need to derail this thread by making fun of him )

I remember his innings against India where he scored a century and helped us chase a 300+ total. Probably that was his best ODI innings.
 
I will get murdered for this but based on his fitness, athletic ability and overall skill, I'd say he is still better than a few "youngsta beauties" in our ODI and T20 squad.

Super happy about his retirement though, he should focus and concentrate on Test Cricket

on fitness yeah, on skill no, unless you are comparing him to shafiq, what other youngsters have been as crappy as younis in odis?

Lets all put the issues we've had with him behind us, and support and cheer for younis today.
 
His 150 v the Mighty Hong kong, the greatest ODI inns in the history of the game, shouldnt ever be forgotten.
 
He is a real team man and selfless cricketer. He was selected for the whole series but he kept his ego aside and decided to retire after the first match. :yk

What do you mean by overall skill? Does overall skill includes being duck against fadt bowlers ot averaging close to 20 in last five years?
 
Coming back to the thread..what is therr the to appreciate? Because he finally retired from the ODIe something he should have done after the worst ever innings in Mohali. He was an average ODI batsman at best.

I hope he plays test cricket for at least another 2 years. He is our legend and should be respected by everyone.

I think 3 of his hundreds were in 300+ chases against India.

There is nothing to appreciate regarding his odi career. He is the worst ever pakistan top order odi bat. He lost us so many games. He delayed and probably killed a career or 2.

His timid innings today again shows the whole story in one shot.

Joking, the one in 2007 IIRC was brilliant although it needed an Afridi cameo for Pakistan to win the match.

The worst player to suit up for 250+ ODIs.

Separate him from tests, in ODIs he was a debacle and he was selfish to boot with his selection and even threatened to leave the test team and bulldozed his way into the ODI team through this.

How one can try to find silver lining for him is a wonder.

If he was selected by others, and had honour, I would say at least he tried his best, but he has none.

If anyone can find me a worse ODI player to suit up for 250+ ODIs not named Afridi, please be my guest.
 
With 265 matches a proper batsmen should have atleast 10000 runs in ODI, and that average is pathetic for a pure batsmen. He hasn't jack in ODI to be appreciated
 
His knock in the 2011 WC semi-final was such a vital knock.......

I appreciate that he is one of the greatest Test batsmen that Pakistan has ever produced - but I don't think that's what you meant [MENTION=138379]#GreenRoars[/MENTION]

Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of the guy despite him saying some ridiculously silly stuff at times. However, the fact is that as far as I was concerned everything he had/has to offer to Pakistani cricket was/is either in Test cricket or as a captain in the Post Inzi era.

As a captain he lead us to the 2009 T20 WC & no doubt I appreciate him for that. And in Test matches he has been and still is absolutely brilliant Mashallah - so I appreciate him for that.

For the sake of his legacy - more than anything - I am glad he has retired from ODIs. I'd love to see him touring & performing well in the UK & Aus next year In-Shaa-Allah and retiring when he reaches the 10,000 run marks which he wants to do. I feel that he has done enough to leave the game on his terms, so I really hope he gets to do so, but not at the expense of the team.

Up until 2010 he was a ok ODI player after not so memorable but he is a Test Legend. Will be missed in slip fielding .
 
The way he has been blocking the space of a younger player in ODIs eleven , again and gain, doesn't deserve any appreciation.
 
Shouldnt have played as much as he did.
Langer a legend for Aus in tests hardly played in ODI cricket, maybe he could have gone down that route.
kept other deserving players out like saeed bin nasir who averages about 42 in pak domestic list A matches.

Langer would have made a much stronger case for ODI selection than Younis ever did. He was good in 8 ODIs that he played and always had a good record in domestic limited overs cricket. Even in T20s, he was fine. Agreed that Australia had an abundance of talent at that time but Langer easily could have played much more ODIs. But he never made a fuss about it.

Correct. He's never caused any problems about it.

He has stated that he wishes he played more often and he thinks he would have done a good job.
 
Not a top drawer odi player, but without doubt the best Pakistan test bat ever

Todays showed why hes simply class, the best bat in the team even at the afe of 38/40
 
The Oval is a quicker and bouncier pitch than Edgbaston so pleased Younis's reflexes has stood up to the challenge. After the last Test his future looked bleak but this has been a really special knock.
 
Deserves to get 10k runs and he should be able to get them and then retire after Australia series.
 
AMAZING stuff by Younus.

I admit, I too jumped on the "bashing" bandwagon of YK that the entire PP was indulging into.

But this man scored a daddy hundred just at the right time. Other bats failed, Shafiq only managed to score 100 while we were still in deficit and gave it away like usual.

YK stuck, and is still there on the crease.

Good job - he has to do this often though.
 
The best PAKISTANI TEST BATSMAN we have ever produced, no need to take the detractors seriously, most of them cannot even hold a bat.

Somewhere in Peshawar is a Van Gogh enthusiast crying his eyes out refusing to watch Younis Khan score big while standing tall with a rubbish tail.
 
True fans do not bash a legend like him, after all he has done for us in this format. When he retires we will become Test minnows
 
I might be hating him initially, but this knock makes me respect him even more, he has come back from a patch where he was berated and hated by everyone. He has adjusted really well to the bounce and adjusted his technique accordingly.
One of the signs of being a great of cricket..
Pakistan's series had one of these knocks missing from Younis.. And he has delivered on such an occassion.
I might be exaggerating a bit but if we win this, it has to go down as the best knock of his life maybe.. I maybe wrong considering the context we were in and how we needed him to stand up
 
Once a legend always a legend. This guy has always been wonderful performing in tough situations.

If you take out his ODI career he is certainly one of the best since 2000.
 
Pakistani fans don't deserve younas khan he gets criticised way too much and used to back in the day on here too when he was called useless khan he can never win with stupid Pakistani fans.

Haha. There are too many threads going around. I would just say one thing again and again. YK truly class above the rest and an ATG of the game. This game seals that.
 
big innings... really happy for him but still not the best test batsmen for pak.. behind miandad and inzi easily but a great servant of the game.... he shld have backed himself to play like this all series .. this was easily the most difficult of the 4 pitches and he has played at ease.... 2 more hundreds in australia and a couple against WI in UAE and he shld be near the unbelieveable top half of most centuries makers in the world ... WOW would tht be good for Pak cricket
 
ATG in tests and I don't care what anyone says about him. Pakistani fans are the worst in the world who love to hate their own legends and not give them the respect they deserve. YK is our greatest ever test batsman and deserves far more respect than he gets.

Miandad gets a lot of mileage from his swagger alone.

But how on earth is he behind Inzi?
 
I think some people are going OTT with the 'Younis bashing bandwagon' marlarkey. Make no mistake Younis deserved the criticism he was getting. Awful technique which he has changed as his body position is not as low as it was in the previous tests and he has minimised his movements. I don't get this mentality, after a big score suddenly we feel like 'bashing' those who criticised him. You have to look at why the criticism came. No one said he's our worst batsman, we all know what he's capable of. Great knock YK
 
This will probably go down as one of his finest knock on Test cricket, I didn't watch it. But seems like he fought it out
 
This is such a ridiculous thread to bring back. If you find one sane Pakistani to dispute that YK is one of the best Pakistani test batsmen to play the game, please call them out; because I have never met one. Why are you bringing up his garbage limited over performances if your intention is to truly celebrate his legendary world-class test career?

Great innings everyone is on a high today, look at his previous matches he is not been playing for the team. He has been hopping around everywhere, he was never that bad! All of sudden he knows he would be dropped, then the hopping is gone.....I'm happy but he should have given 100% previous matches

They deserve to be criticized for being ingrates towards a man who has won their nation so many test matches single handed. Four to Five failures does not make his 9000+ runs irrelevant all of a sudden

Criticism is one thing but when people act disrespectful and ridicule someone who has achieved more than what they cannot achieve 1% of it in their lives, they look like tools.

Lol everyone goes through lean patches. Such fair weather fans who start ridiculing legends of the game deserve all the criticism they are getting.
 
I give him a lot of flak, and most of the time he's deserving of it, but he's played well today and will be the reason should we go on to level the series 2-2. Once again, well done YK. :bow:

I agree fully it isn't. Just to make things clear i'm a huge YK fan always have been. I never wrote him off, we all know he has the capability which is why it was tough seeing him dancing around like a 'cat on a hot tin roof' as Boycott put it. He sorted this out and made some adjustments as he admitted himself in his post match interview. However those who wrote him off completely do deserve all they get.

I think there was legitimate criticism of Younis' performance in this series. However, that wasn't the case by a large section of PP who took it as an opportunity to whitewash his entire career with tasteless vitriol. By the growing swell of those who jumped on the bandwagon it was a partial successful attempt to diminish his achievements.

It may be a coincidence but his main antagonists on here are either 'hardcore' or 'closet' Shoaib Malik fans.

You don't have to take my word for it. Just check how they praise a Malik century against Zimbabwe to the hilt, whilst diminishing a YK performance by suddenly remembering what they call "context".

I am always suspicious of someone who lacks a consistent chain of thought when discussing different topics.

That said we need greater consistency in the last few series of YK's career.

There are still some major technical issues that need addressing. I haven't got time to go in to too much detail but I'll point out what I feel is the root cause of his issues.

When Younis made his debut his technique was a product of the Pakistani domestic setup, in which he spent a number of years. He was bottom hand dominant, with a forward press with his left leg and a crouching stance with his head too far over to the right. Thus, he would close himself off and be forced to play around his front pad whilst falling over to the right and trying to whip the ball with his bottom hand. The end result being he was a perfect LBW candidate. This was badly exposed by Ambrose and Walsh in the Caribbean.

But to his credit, prior to the 2000 New Zealand tour he overhauled his technique. He was more upright in his stance, with a firmer top hand grip and a straighter elbow. However, the most significant adjustment was that instead of the forward press, he began to adopt the more classical back and across trigger movement which allowed his to play the line of the ball with a straighter bat.

My concern, is that even in this innings, he still wasn't covering the line of the ball with his back leg, which if not addressed will lead to greater inconsistency.
 
He is the best Test Batsmen for Pakistan. A ton in Australia is the the only thing left to achieve. :14:

Not even the British press, commentary team and sky pundits have ridiculed Younis as much as pathetic low life fans who have been wanting him to fail, they made a few jokes but appreciated his fighting spirit because Younis rarely got out cheaply and was getting better with each innings displaying improvement, that's the mark of a legend; you show what you're made of when things are not going so well and you have your back against the wall :bow: Younis CHOMPIAN! Younis CHOMPIAN! But everybody know [MENTION=141557]Chief Destroyer[/MENTION] [MENTION=136729]Suleiman[/MENTION] and all the haters are BURNING! BURNING! BURNING!

Great Post, pretty much summed up Younis Khan. And yeah it was pretty disgusting to see how the disgraceful fans were trying to flush Younis Khans Test Career down the toilet with their garbage. He isn't perfect am not saying that and deserves criticism like most players do when they need to get better but they took it too far
