Brilliant...but Sarfaraz should be given credit

Inzi is not a fan of young blood and we all know the number of debutants who debuted under Inzi from 2004 to 2007..

Youngsters were also selected when Misbah/Waqar were at the helm, they were often dropped after a game or two or in most cases without even getting a game. Inzi should be applauded for selecting youngsters but do not forget it is Saifi/Mickey who give them consistent chances and opportunity to display their talent.

It's strange that Inzi ironically had few debutantes under his captaincy. But then again Inzi had quite a talented squad, the likes of Yousuf, Younis (in tests), Kamran, Asif, Akhtar, Afridi, Razzaq, Butt, Gul. A lot of talented players even if some didn't live up to their potential.

So much for Inzamam only favouring TTFs and seniors.

He has been a massive upgrade on Haroon Rasheed, Iqbal Qasim, Mohsin Khan and Wasim Bari.

Inzamam has introduced youth icon Iftikhar Ahmed, his nephew Imam ul Haq, Abbas, now discarded Rizwan and Nawaz in 2 years of his selector tenure.

majority of the talent were selected by PSL
HAsan ALi, Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Sharjeel Khan
rest by other selectors like Usman Shinwari [Wasti] and Faheem Ashraf [Tauseef]

Inzamam's most consistent selections in 2 years are Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shehzad, whom he gave ample opportunities despite their bad form.

Youth is where the power is...I keep watching that Shadab 6 in the 2nd T20

Can someone Compare the Debutants list for our previous Chief Selector(s):

- Inzamam (2016 onwards)
- Haroon Rasheed (2015/6)
- Moin Khan (2015)
- Amir Sohail (2014)
- Iqbal Qassim (2013)

Let's see who injected most "young blood" and who didn't?

A damning list - Iqbal Qasim and Haroon Rasheed were a disgrace ! How can anyone claim with a straight face that Inzamam is worse than those two ?

Folks, be careful what you ask for when demanding Inzamam's sacking !

At least Haroon Rasheed & Iqbal Qasim did'nt select their nephew with a 30 odd average[ignoring Fawad, Farhan and others with averages above 40+] as the only opening alternative to an opener [Shehzad] in bad form, or their son in U-19.

I'm not against inzamam family playing but if he remains selector than that is a breach and conflict of interest.

It was probably Moin Khan tenure when Fawad Alam despite a good average was suddenly removed from the squad in favor of making way for Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal remained in contention to get a berth but his brother Umar Akmal was playing in side and outside also with his off the field controversies.

It was Inzamam that brought back Kamran Akmal in WI tour as opener where he dropped catches in the field.

Cleverly the stat where these 'connected 'icons [Akmals, Malik, Wahab Riaz, Shehzad] made comebacks were'nt shared, there also Inzamam would do better than other selectors for giving them too many chances and blocking youngsters.

^^^ Hopefully that is accurate....

quality list there. Puts it in perspective. Seems Inzi has done ok so far. But easy to sing when we are winning. There have definitely been some strange selections in the past.

Then again, Inzi isn't immune from this either, since Bilal Asif and Asghar were in the squad. Micky A said he felt he couldn't play them in the 2nd test, and went for three seamers instead!

Asghar I can understand being there, but Bilal Asif in the test squad?? Iftikhar Ahmed was another one... Overall, very good job in limited overs, and room for improvement in test selection maybe?

You'll notice that Iftikhar and Bilal are both offies so I assume they were mainly selected keeping that in mind. Iftikhar is actually running riot in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy right now, 16 wickets at an average of 7. Bilal Asif also has 10 wickets at 22 in 3 games... The cupboard is extremely bare as far as offies are concerned.

The only outrageous selection for me is Shan Masood - you can make a case for the rest and most of the young players selected are very good selections but there was no reason to bring back Shan Masood after he was dropped for the NZ/AUS tours.

Shahid Afridi (captain)
Umar Akmal
Mohammad Hafeez
Mohammad Amir
Shoaib Malik
Sarfraz Ahmed
Iftikhar Ahmed
Imad Wasim
Anwar Ali
Mohammad Irfan ( injured )
Wahab Riaz
Sharjeel Khan
Mohammad Nawaz
Khurram Manzoor ( wow )
Mohammad Sami

this was Pakistan Asia 2016 cup squad. and still people says inzi and not batter then others . unsatisfied creations.

The most important thing is they have got a long run. Can't drop youngster after 1 bad game or series.

Sadaf Hussain? No.
Fawad Alam? No.

Nepotism? Yes.

Did not select my favourites? I don't like him.

People need to get over Fawad Alam. The guy has an ugly technique, zero power and from what I've heard from his fans, can only bat in the middle-order.

Guess what? Our middle-order is packed and there is no room for a 33 year old in our test team anymore. Babar, Haris, Azhar and Shafiq are better options and after them Salahuddin, Rizwan and a couple others are waiting in the wings.

Lets all ignore the fact that:

1. Inzi selected a fat and unfit Umar Akmal and the team management had to send him back before the CT
2. Inzi is on record having said that Salman Butt is in his plans, and he will even select him for A-tours
3. Inzi selected Shan Masood
4. Inzi selected Kamraan Akmal
5. Inzi selected Muhammad Hafeez in T20s even though he had previously been dropped
6. Inzi selected Azhar Ali as an opener in ODIs when he is clearly out of his element in that format
7. Inzi dropped Sami Aslam from the test squad

These are from the top of my head, I'm sure I can find more brilliance if I put my mind to it.

Sigh.

Fact is Inzi is one of the best CS Pakistan has ever had.

I think inzi is a decent selector but he isn't great and he isn't terrible either.
He selected all these youngsters yes but continually selects wahab, shehzad, Hafeez and masood and has hinted towards selecting Salman butt. Not the best selector but the worst either I guess.

A person who selects a failing player [Selfie Shehzad] on 3 series consecutively, and then places his nephew as the only opening option is not a decent selector, he is an opportunist and a clever selector.
The PSL selections by Inzamam are forced on him [PCB, team management and other], if it was on Inzamam Hasan Ali or Shadab would never have been selected.
A person who selects Iftikhar Ahmed based upon doing a favor for captain [Misbah] can't be called an independent selector also.
Apart from Mohammed Abbas he has'nt selected any outside player in the team, most of his selections were playing in other format [T20, Test, ODi] already.
People forget he had sent unfit Umar Akmal to play Champions Trophy, he would've sent Salman Butt alongwith Kamran Akmal to the West Indies tour earlier this year. I'm absolutely sure he would do the same with all TTFs [Hafeez, Malik and Wahab]. Mickey Arthur thankfully has something to do with this these selections did'nt make our team to ruin whatever game we had.

Selectors Tauseef Ahmed and Wasti also deserve some credit for some individuals, giving all the praise to Inzi is really bias with no common sense.

Brought back Umar Gul for ODIs against England in 2016

Inzamam doesn't pick players the captain and coach doesn't want.

People will never be happy. He is doing what is called sensible selection. Giving chances to youngster along with giving TTFs one last hoorah. Inzi micki and saifi are best combination ever for pak cricket.

Inzamam doesn't pick players the captain and coach doesn't want.

If Arthur-Sarfraz had a say in the squad unfit U. Akmal [CT] or Amir [Pak v Sl Test Series] would'nt be sent to join the team.
Even if we put the politics, nepotism and TTF issue aside, sending unfit players by chief selector is wrong in principle.
I can point to the recent PAk v SL series, Imam ul Haq and Umar Amin introduced in squads were Inzimam picks only.

I do want Arthur and Sarfraz to have a positiion in the selection cmmte. The poor batting issue will be resolved sooner

PSL has made his job a lot easier, which is why a comparison with the previous Chief Selectors cannot be established due to different dynamics. However, people are allowed to celebrate his glory because it has coincided with a fruitful period in terms of results.

lol, one should only have a single int. debut. Inzi shouldn't take credit of introducing Babar to T20s.

Domestic cricket has always been around and PSL is nothing more than domestic cricket. The PSL did not pick players like Faheem and Fakhar, Inzamam did.

The bitterness is rich to see especially from people who were never supportive of Inzamam's appointment.

Look how his detractors are changing tactics. Now they have realised their criticisms aren't valid, suddenly a comparison can't be made due to "different dynamics." :))

PSL is a lot more than domestic cricket. It has huge following and one good PSL season brings the player into the limelight. You can toil in F/C and LA for seasons and no one will take note of you, but good performances in the PSL will fast-track you to the national team.

Players like Hasan, Shadab, Fakhar, Asghar etc. would eventually have played for Pakistan anyway, but the PSL helped them get noticed early.

Inzamam's lack of vision was exposed during his captaincy days, when he barely gave an opportunity to young players even though we won two U-19 World Cups while he was captain. The excuse that there was no room for younger players is nonsense. Not to forget, he took half of the team with him to the match-fixing league ICL.

He is simply riding on the momentum generated by the PSL. A tournament that has served as a wakeup call for all those who stated that a T20 league will not be beneficial in the development of the players.
