Someone explain to me how Maryam is walking free for 6 months now?

When is the date for the appeal of suspension of her sentence?

Let's see some prosecutions not just arrests and then with a bit of drama, they are given bail and that's about it.

Anti-Narcotics Force arrests Rana Sanaullah from Islamabad-Lahore motorway

PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan was arrested on Monday by the Anti Narcotics Force's (ANF) Lahore team while he was traveling from Faisalabad to Lahore, sources in the ANF confirmed to DawnNewsTV.

The senior PML-N lawmaker was arrested from the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near the Sukheki area, the sources said.

The ANF has not officially specified the charges on which Sanaullah has been picked up, but spokesperson Riaz Soomro said drugs were recovered from Sanaullah's car. The quantity and type of drugs recovered is still being assessed, he said.

"We are having some difficulties getting information from ANF Lahore," he said. "ANF does not arrest any individual without due cause."

Force Commander Brig Khalid Mehmood is overseeing the investigation, the ANF spokesperson told DawnNewsTV. Sanaullah is being kept in ANF Police Station I, he added.

"ANF Headquarters Rawalpindi is in touch with ANF Lahore. A statement on the drugs recovered can only be issued after completion of due process," he said.

PML-N leader Attaullah Tarrar had earlier told reporters that he had contacted Sanullah today. According to him, the PML-N provincial president was about to leave the Sukheki area to attend a meeting in Lahore.

The former provincial law minister was appointed president of PML-N Punjab in May this year.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the arrest and said that Sanaullah was arrested without any allegation and case against him. He termed it the worst example of "lawlessness and political revenge".

Sharif alleged that it was another example of using state institutions against political opponents. He demanded of the government to produce Sanaullah before a court of law.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz blamed Prime Minister Imran Khan for the arrest, accusing him of being "directly behind" the arrest.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto also took to Twitter to condemn the arrest of Sanaullah. He termed the arrest of the PML-N leader 'political victimisation'.

"Sanaullah has been a vociferous critic of the PPP in the past and is currently one of the most vocal critics of the regime."

He said that the arrest exposed the government's "weakness and desperation".

This is what Dr Shahid Masood termed "Operation Dhabar-Doos" and to his credit he did inform us about it one year ago.

Kuch maare jayenge, kuch pakere jayenge kuch bhag jayenge or paker ker phr wapis laaye jaayenge...

And now I think Mir Hasil Bizenjo can say goodbye to his chairman senate dream.

Yea it's a possibility but they still have the numbers in their favor (although it's a secret ballot). Heard some senators met IK in last few days?

Will changing the senate chairman have an effect on the arrests or anyother thing which the opposition is so afraid of?

The ones being arrested are mostly MPAs and MNAs so no effect in that case but it can help opposition in 2 ways. One is that it will give an impression that Govt is getting weak and second is that Chairman Senate assume the position of acting president of the country in absence of the president of Pakistan.

So I guess changing the senate is pretty useless for the opposition as I dont think that the president will ever be in this situation.

So I guess changing the senate is pretty useless for the opposition as I dont think that the president will ever be in this situation.

In that case President will always have to stay in the country...

I think he can manage that and can you please tell me what is the role of the senate? I never understood its role...

The main purpose for the creation of the Senate of Pakistan was to give equal representation to all the federating units since the membership of the National Assembly was based on the population of each province. Equal provincial membership in the Senate, thus, balances the provincial inequality in the National Assembly and dispels doubts and apprehension, if any, regarding deprivation and exploitation.

Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KP all got 23 Senators thats a total of 92 Senators thn there are 8 Senators from FATA and and 4 From Islamabad. So a total of 104 Senators

Rana Sanaullah's petition to have home-cooked food in jail rejected by court

A sessions court in Lahore on Monday rejected PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan's petition to have home-cooked food delivered to him in jail.

While rejecting his request, judge Qaiser Nazir Butt directed the PML-N leader to approach the jail superintendent, which he said was the relevant forum for his request.

The court had reserved its verdict on the petition on July 13.

In a report submitted to the sessions court, jail officials stated that Sanaullah was being given food according to his health and daily medical check-ups of the PML-N leader were also being conducted. As per the report, he was in "good health".

Advocate Farhad Ali Shah, the lawyer representing Sanaullah, argued that his client should be allowed home-cooked food, adding that according to the law, a suspect under trial is permitted to receive home-cooked food.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Sanaullah on July 1 in a narcotics case and the next day a judicial magistrate sent him to jail on judicial remand.

According to the force, 15 kilograms heroin was found in possession of the PML-N leader. A case was lodged against him under Section 9(C) of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, which carries the death penalty, life imprisonment or a jail-term that may extend to 14 years along with a fine of up to Rs1 million.

Surely there is someone to blame for Peshawar BRT mess. Still no inquiry into it.

NAB are playing a clever game( against PK) by arresting these crooks but not actually prosecuting anyone. They are hoping the govt changes or these crooks can use the fact that no cases are brought to court. So far it's succeeding. The NAB chairman was appointed by NS, AZ and MR.

I heard Billoo has also been called for questioning. NAB is not taking any of these open and shut cases to completion.

ISLAMABAB: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday vowed not to retreat or succumb to any pressure over the issue of the newly promulgated National Accountability (second amendment) Ordinance 2019 and said that the amendments — which benefit legislators, bureaucrats and the business community — were made keeping in view the opposition’s longstanding demand.

The prime minister said that following the promulgation of the ordinance, the stock market went up rapidly. He said his government had decided to give full benefit of the ordinance to the business community.

The prime minister stated this while presiding over a meeting of the media strategic committee comprising Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Minister for Communication Murad Saeed, Minister for Education Shafqat Meh*mood, Senator Faisal Javed, National Security Adviser Moeed Yousuf and PM’s legal aide Dr Babar Awan.

In a private TV show, Shafqat Mehmood said the government needed the opp*osition’s support to get the ordinance passed by the two houses of parliament, especially the Senate where the opposition is in a majority.
Minister says government needs opposition’s support to get the ordinance passed by parliament

According to a source privy to the meeting, the prime minister said he wou*ld not surrender or retreat on the issue of the new ordinance and defend it at any forum. He stressed the need for a consensus between the treasury and opposition benches on the matter.

The prime minister was of the view that the government had made history by amending the controversial NAB law through presidential ordinance whi*ch was promulgated by Presi*dent Dr Arif Alvi on Dec 26.

It has been observed that due to fear of NAB, bureaucrats have stopped signing official files and refused to take new initiatives that brought the government machinery to a standstill. According to the source, the prime minister had in several meetings lamented the controversial NAB law as well as the bureau’s officials for creating undue harassment. Similarly, the business community had also complained to the prime minister and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa about the NAB’s “threatening” attitude.

On the other hand, a NAB source said the anti-graft watchdog might challenge the new ordinance in a court of law.

NAB chairman retired justice Javed Iqbal said at a function on Monday that the bureau did not consider faces but cases and would not come under any pressure while holding corrupt people accountable for their misdeed. Talking about the new NAB ordinance, he said the anti-graft watchdog had already been sending tax-related cases to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for the last three months.

Foreign Minister and vice chairman of the ruling Pak*istan Tehreek-i-Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi claimed in a statement that it was a longstanding demand of the opposition to amend the controversial NAB law and the new presidential ordinance would be placed before parliament for its approval.

Separately, at a function held to distribute Sehat [health] cards among transgender people on Monday, the prime minister said the government had amended the NAB law to provide ease to businessmen and industrialists. “We took this step for rapid economic growth,” he said, adding that the decision would boost the economy and create jobs. “2020 will be the year of progress in which the people will witness prosperity,” he added.

“The government spent 2019 in trying to stabilise the economy; it will create jobs, facilitate industries and improve ease of doing business in the upcoming year,” he maintained.

The source, who attended the meeting at the Prime Minister Office, said Mr Khan formed a committee to review the government’s flagship programmes launched during the last one-and-a-half years and those to be introduced in 2020. The committee comprises Asad Umar, Babar Awan, Murad Saeed and Moeed Yousuf. The first meeting of the committee will be held on Tuesday (today).

Later, talking to Dawn, Mr Awan said those who were criticising the new ordinance had not even gone through it.

'Are you untouchable?' Shahzad Akbar asks after Bilawal takes issue with being summoned by NAB

The government and PPP were at odds on Thursday following Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's appearance before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to record his statement in the fake accounts and money laundering case.

The PPP chairperson appeared before the bureau after being summoned three times. According to the anti-graft watchdog, Bilawal has 25 per cent shares in the private firm Opal-225, a joint venture of Zardari Group.

Addressing a press conference after his appearance, the PPP chairperson had raised questions about why he was asked to appear before the accountability watchdog. Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar asked if the PPP leader was so "untouchable" that an institution couldn't call him in for questioning.

Questions about NAB summons
Bilawal said that over a year ago, the then chief justice of Pakistan had stated that he was not guilty, adding that he had presented himself before the authorities three times and had also answered the bureau's questions.

In January 2019, the Supreme Court while hearing the fake accounts case had ordered that the names of Bilawal and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Shah be removed from both the exit control list and the joint investigation team's report on a probe into the case.

The court had also ordered that the case be forwarded to NAB and directed the anti-corruption watchdog to wrap up its investigation within two months.

Addressing the press conference today Bilawal, the last questionnaire was issued in May of last year.

"They had no objections [...] all of a sudden what happened in December when the first notice was issued?"

Bilawal alleged that he was issued another notice right after PPP announced a campaign against the current PTI government.

He said that he had a detailed talk with the NAB team and they had issued him a questionnaire today. According to NAB sources, the PPP chairperson's statement was recorded and he was issued a written questionnaire, adding that he has been given 10 days to submit his response.

"If I wasn't even a public office holder at the time, what sense does it make that NAB summon me?" he asked.

'Are you untouchable?'
Later, the premier's special assistant Akbar held a press conference in response to the PPP chairperson's queries about why he was asked to appear before NAB.

Akbar said that Bilawal had been summoned with regards to the JV-Opal joint venture Opal-225 in which NAB is conducting an investigation. He explained that the case was part of an investigation which was referred to NAB by the Supreme Court's Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

He said that in the JV-225 case the Zardari Group is accused of money laundering from the company's accounts. Akbar added that they were accused of building properties from the money taken from these accounts.

"Unlike Bilawal, I will not lie to you, it is an allegation right now, it has to be proven and go before courts. But before that, you have to appear before investigative agencies."

"Are you so untouchable that you can't be called by any institution for questioning?" Akbar asked.

Responding to Bilawal's remarks that a case was made against him despite the fact that he was a seven-year-old when he became a shareholder of the company under question, Akbar said: "Bachay (child) this property was purchased between 2011-2014 when your abba jan (father) was the president."

Additionally, responding to the PPP chairperson's remark's that the former chief justice had declared him innocent, Akbar said: "Bilawal Sahib I wish you had received some education in Pakistan."

The premier's special assistant said that the Supreme Court had not declared Bilawal as "not guilty but may have said he is innocent".

"Remember no one is above the law, if you are called somewhere you will have to give a reply.

"You do not have a certificate from anywhere that you are untouchable. You were untouchable in the old Pakistan, you are not untouchable now."

Reading the written order of the Supreme Court under discussion, Akbar said it had stated that Bilawal and the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah's name should be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL).

He added that the order had said this would not prevent NAB from probing their cases further.

PPP leaders show support
Various party leaders — including PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman and PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari — and supporters gathered outside NAB's old headquarters in Rawalpindi ahead of Bilawal's appearance.

Addressing a press conference alongside other PPP leaders, Kaira said: "We've been speaking about the NAB-Niazi nexus, now courts are also speaking about it," he said, adding that courts were saying NAB was "ill-prepared".

Meanwhile, Rehman said that Bilawal could not be made a party in the case NAB was questioning him about as he was not a public office-bearer [at the time].

Case against Bilawal
The latest NAB notice sent to Bilawal, dated February 7, stated: "You are hereby again called upon to appear before Combined Investiga*tion Team-4 of NAB (Rawalpindi) along with the following record for clarifications and recording your plea on 13-2-2020 at 1100hours without failure.

"Submit attested copies of resolutions of board of directors for the period 01-01-2008 to 01-12-2019 and any other evidence you want to produce in support of your plea. You are advised that failing to comply with this notice may entail penal consequences as provided in Section 2 of National Accoun*tability Ordinance-1999."

Prior to this, he was sent two notices in December last year but had termed the call-up notice served to him by the anti-corruption watchdog as "unconstitutional and illegal".

PPP leaders have been accused of transferring billions of rupees to Opal-225 via fake bank accounts. The company also took loans of billions of rupees from banks.

According to NAB, Bilawal had 25 per cent shares in a private firm, Opal-225, a joint venture of the Zardari Group.

The anti-graft watchdog, which has been investigating fake bank accounts and money laundering case against PPP leaders, filed eight references in the Accountability Court, Islamabad, on December 9, 2018.

On May 29, 2019, the bureau had served a 32-point questionnaire to the PPP chairperson during his short appearance in the bureau’s headquarters.

The NAB headquarters had already shifted the fake bank accounts and money laundering case from its Karachi office to Rawalpindi office last year. The investigations in the case are being faced by 172 important personalities, including Bilawal, former president Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur, former chief minister Qaim Ali Shah, incumbent minister Anwar Siyal, Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz and others.

Their names were placed on the Exit Control List (ECL), but Bilawal and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah's names were later removed from the travel ban list on a Supreme Court directive.

Fake NAB drama goes on, arrest people and then don't prosecute, make them look innocent when billions have been stolen. The sexual predator appointed by NS, AZ and MR needs to be hanged.
