Liverpool FC | 2024/25 Season

Arne slot has been an inspiration his system of play is very good defence has improved big time

Like I said before. Difference between Slot and Klopp is in Transitions. Slots team are not frantic in possession, and are not total Gung - ho like Klopps Liverpool. Hence better alround stability

Decent performance, dropped off a bit after our first goal like we did vs Southampton, but a fantastic result.

Great win. Slot doing wonders.

Deserved league leaders.

Liverpools to lose fair play

Played the European champions & English champions off the park within a week .

If Liverpool can keep Salah & VVD fit , continue to play near this , there’s only one conclusion 🏆

So your now favs for PL and CL 😉

Astonishing they won't give vvd and salah new contracts.

If vvd , salah and trent end up going free after this summer

Serious questions need asking about this board it's not like they spent a huge amount anyhow how many big signings as slot even made ?

When have your owners ever really shown ambition?

They pretty much depend on your DOF and manager to get the best out of signings and the team. At one point a few seasons ago you had a better team and squad than City. But didn't build on that.

Most of these American owners don't give a **** about going thar extra mile to be dominant over a sustained period. They are happy to win occasionally trophy here and there. (Kronkes are same with their lack of ambition)

Listening to salah speak its almost as though he's rightly insulted by lack of an offer, so he probably will be going as well TAA. VVD, not sure what big clubs are currently showing interest?

Acc to bookies, LFC are favs for both. My personal opinion is LFC favs for the league now but CL is wide open, its a cup comp and form can change by April/May.

9 points clear but for me the way LFC are playing their football, its very impressive. This is title wining form.

Will Salah get one too?
====

Liverpool have offered a new contract to captain Virgil van Dijk, it has been reported

That is according to The Athletic's David Ornstein who has said on X, external that following an opening proposal, a contract offer has now been made.

The report also suggests that talks are ongoing with Trent Alexander-Arnold and a new deal for Mohamed Salah will also be proposed soon.

All three have contracts currently set to expire at the end of the season.

Just checking so you don't make any excuses later in season if you don't win the league

3-3

Hectic & intense game .

Liverpool poor in the first half . 2nd played brilliantly but a shocking decision by the keeper .

2 points dropped but newcastle were incredible, deserved a point .

Fair result.

Draw snatched from jaws of victory but truthfully we didn't deserve more. We looked leggy after Real Madrid and Man City, especially in the 1st half.

Fatigue is no excuse for Quansah and Gomez though. Always feel there's a mistake in us when both are in the same backline.

Our passing and pressing was much improved second half with good chances created. Nunez was guilty of a couple of criminal misses.

Draw not worst result at St James Park. Newcastle took points off Man City and Arsenal. However Everton takes on even bigger importance now.

Liverpool’s choke might have been activated from today, but Slot isn’t a certified bottler like Klopp yet, so we shouldn’t be harsh on him. He is a better manager than Klopp for sure.

I thought LFC were done and dusted, it’s not easy to claw back at St. James Park; but Salah did what ATG’s do, what a special player, he has to be in the conversation for the greatest of all time imo, especially in the EPL

Agree. Salah is a Premier League Genius. Theres levels between him and the current epl wingers

Liverpool 'expecting' Salah to continue, says Slot

Liverpool boss Arne Slot says the club expect Mohamed Salah to "continue for a long time" after his stunning performance in the 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

Salah, 32, is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and said last week he was "disappointed" by the club's failure to offer him a new one.

The Egyptian again highlighted his worth at Newcastle, creating Liverpool's opener for Curtis Jones and then scoring two excellent finishes before Fabian Schar's late, late equaliser.

Slot told Amazon Prime: "Every time we need Mo Salah he scores a goal.

"We are hoping and expecting he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us."

'Incredible stats'

Robbie Fowler scored 128 times in the Premier League for Liverpool and was in no doubt about how the club should handle Salah's future.

Speaking on Amazon Prime, Fowler said: "Salah's stats and data are incredible. We talked about him getting that new contract and his agent should be there first thing in the morning to get him to sign that contract.

"He is that player who can change a game. He has moments and he is exceptional in those moments. He is a match winner."

Salah's stunning second half means he has now scored and assisted in 37 Premier League matches, overtaking Wayne Rooney (36) as the player to have done so on the most occasions in the competition.

Salah has scored in each of his past seven Premier League matches, with the Egyptian becoming just the third player to have two separate runs of seven or more consecutive games scored in a row in the competition along with Jamie Vardy and his new Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Salah has 325 goals and assists in 370 games for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017, and only legendary captain Steven Gerrard (92) has more than his 76 assists for the club in the Premier League.

Salah's total of 168 Premier League goals for Liverpool puts him comfortably top of the club's list - add in the two he got for Chelsea and Salah is eighth in the all-time charts, just five behind Arsenal great Thierry Henry.

'They have to keep him'

Speaking on Match of the Day, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards said Liverpool have to retain their forward.

"We keep talking about him - he is unbelievable," said Richards.

"He doesn't even play well for 60 minutes but he's world class. We talk about his contract, is he staying or is he going?

"They must keep him because he can do so many things others can't do. He doesn't have to be at the top of his game - not many people can score goals like that.

"Mo Salah is immense."

Last Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park tomorrow (unless weather forces a postponement) so expecting an emotional atmosphere to spur Everton on.

A win would be massive but suspecting another draw.

Need a better defensive performance, conceding too many goals away from home at the minute.

Mohamed Salah 'has agreed a new two-year contract at Liverpool as talisman and the Reds board reach an agreement to extend his stay' with forward's deal expiring at the end of the season

Liverpool
have reportedly reached an agreement with Mohamed Salah over a new contract.

There has been much speculation regarding the future of the winger, whose current deal is set to expire at the end of June.

As reported by The Mirror, Salah is now on the brink of signing a new two-year contract to remain at Anfield.

Salah's agent Rammy Abbas told Liverpool that he wanted a three-year contract for his client, with Fenway Sports Group having initially only been prepared to offer him a one-year extension.

However, a compromise has now been reached, with the 32-year-old set to prolong his stay at the club who he has represented since 2017.

Salah already earns around £400,000-a-week at Liverpool, with money having not been an issue with regards to him deciding his future.

Liverpool are also looking to tie down Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to new deals, with both players also in the final year of their current contracts.

Salah remains a player of key importance for Liverpool, as shown by the fact that he has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in 14 Premier League games this season.

In total, the Egyptian star has scored 226 goals in 370 appearances for Liverpool.

He has won the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at the club.

The news regarding Salah will be a huge boost for Arne Slot, whose side are currently top of the Premier League.

Last month, Salah had revealed his disappointment at not having been offered a new deal by Liverpool at that stage.

Speaking to a small selection of reporters after Liverpool's win at Southampton, Salah said: 'We are almost in December and I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club. I'm probably more out than in.

'You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future.

'I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans' hands.'

Asked if he was disappointed about the lack of progress, Salah added: 'Of course, yeah. I'm not going to retire soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed but we will see.'

@KingKhanWC What a weekend for Liverpool, and we didn't even play a minute of football !

Derby gets called off giving us a much needed rest with so many players injured, City draw at Palace and Arsenal draw at Fulham.

As Javed Miandad said after being wrongly given not out in the 92 WC Final, Allah smiles on us today.

It’s worked out well . After Madrid , City & castle , the players have so much energy , the legs need a big rest .

We need Konate back asap . Goalscoring is no issue for the mighty reds but without a solid defence , dropping points is possible in any game .

Chelsea are playing well but when the new year arrives it will test them .

If Salah keeps playing at this outrageous level , everything is on the table !

Liverpool's Andy Robertson sees red as VAR confirms two crucial decisions in Fulham clash

Liverpool's Andy Robertson saw red just 17 minutes into the game against Fulham after an earlier incident that had him writhing in pain, prompting a VAR review. The Scottish defender was on the wrong end of a high boot from Fulham's Issa Diop at Anfield, leading to a lengthy check by officials, but no red card.

The Premier League's Match Centre X account clarified the situation with a statement: "The referee issued a yellow card to Diop for a challenge on Robertson. VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee's call of reckless challenge and yellow card."

Despite this, Fulham managed to snatch the lead with Andreas Pereira nailing a goal past Robertson, who couldn't stop the ball at the line.

Things went from bad to worse for Robertson when he fouled Harry Wilson, resulting in a direct sending off by referee Tony Harrington.

The decision underwent a VAR check for possible offside and to determine if Robertson was the last man, as Virgil van Dijk was nearby, but the red card stood firm. The Premier League later stated: "The referee issued a red card to Robertson for a foul on Wilson which denied a goal scoring opportunity. VAR checked to confirm the red card and that Wilson was in an onside position."

Good point in the end . 10 men for 80% of match , twice behind is acceptable.

But a big opportunity wasted to really get away from the chasing pack .

Chelsea are in this .. no doubt

Good spirit shown having played mostly with 10 men. However the number of goals we've recently conceded in the PL is alarming.

Time to go for Milos Kerkez in Jan. It's better Andy Robertson loses his legs on someone else's pitch.

He's looked vulnerable in a few 1v1s this season and has conceded several penalties. Trent was poor defensively too - Fulham got so much joy down that side and we were fortunate they weren't very clinical in most of their counterattacks.

Opposite of Newcastle where this feels like a point gained instead of two points dropped - but with Arsenal drawing at home it's frustrating we couldn't capitalise.

Play the kids at Southampton and give the rest a week to prepare for Spurs which is a massive fixture now.

Salah is one for a record breaking season if he keeps on at same rate of goals and assists.

Fair play to Diaz and Gapko for turning up this season. Also in big games.

If only every team played LFC as Spurs did!

Going toe to toe with arguably the most destructive team in the world is foolish. 6 could and should have been 10.

Liverpool need Konate back asap, with him and VVD, the defence will be hard to breach. But until then , must outscore the opposition.

LFC must go on a long 5/6 winning run, it will then be tough to catch esp with Chelsea and Arsenal will drop more points in upcoming matches.

Liverpool will 'stay humble' - but lead at top 'feels different'

At first it was just a small section of fans singing it.

'Liverpool, Liverpool, top of the league... Liverpool, top of the league' they chanted after Curtis Jones marked his 100th Premier League appearance by sweeping his side into a 2-1 lead against struggling Leicester.

It was much louder after Mohamed Salah scored his 19th club goal of the season in the 82nd minute to seal a 3-1 win.

Having fallen behind in the fifth minute, Liverpool were well on their way to a win that propelled them seven points clear at the top with one game in hand on their nearest rivals.

Of course, Liverpool have been here before.

In the 2018-19 season, they led by 10 points only for Manchester City to win the title.

"It feels different," Salah, who is out of contract in the summer, told Amazon Prime about Liverpool's advantage at the top after overcoming Leicester.

"But the most important thing is we need to stay humble.

"This one is very special, hopefully we win the Premier League and for this club it is something I dream of.

"The most important thing is the team winning - hopefully we win the Premier League.

"It is great, but we focus on each game and hopefully we carry on like that."

'Far too early to be celebrating'

Liverpool will move 10 points clear of nearest rivals Chelsea if they win at West Ham on Sunday as Enzo Maresca's side do not play until the following day at Ipswich.

It is turning into an extraordinary first season in charge for Arne Slot, who left Feyenoord to take charge of Liverpool.

Not only do Liverpool have a strong lead at the top of the Premier League, they are also top of the Champions League table and in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool have won 22 of Slot's first 26 matches in charge in all competitions.

"It's a bit of a boring answer but as a manager you go game by game - you know how many games you have to play," said Slot when asked about his side being favourites for the title.

"So many teams have so much quality.

"The league table is something we are aware of but we also understand how many games there are still to play.

"Twenty one games from the end [of the season]... it's far too early to already be celebrating."

Home sweet home

Thursday's match was Liverpool's last home game of the calendar year.

They started 2024 with a 4-2 win over Newcastle which sent Klopp's side three points clear at the top before the Reds faded and finished third - nine points behind champions Manchester City.

They ended the calendar year at home with a 3-1 win which leaves them in a strong position to win the league for the first time in five years.

Liverpool have won 15 of their 19 league games at Anfield in 2024, dropping just 10 points.

The Reds now boast the best home record in the Premier League - yet Slot is not getting carried away with Liverpool still two games from reaching the halfway point of the season.

"So many challenges are still ahead," added the Liverpool boss.

"Two months ago we were one point behind Manchester City and look what has happened there in terms of injuries, then you have a bit of bad luck, and then suspensions... this can happen to any team."

Klopp's message of congratulations to Jones

Jones became the first player to score on his 100th Premier League appearance for Liverpool since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in January 2023 - and at 23 years and 331 days he was the youngest to do so for the Reds since Michael Owen in September 2000.

The England midfielder was handed his Liverpool debut by Jurgen Klopp five years ago and came back to the dressing room after full-time to find a text message from his former boss.

"I normally text family and I saw a text off [Jurgen] Klopp saying 'congratulations on 100 games and here's to 500," added Jones.

"I was like what is he on about?' I just checked then and I am proud.

"It was him who set up the team we have now. The foundation was there and Arne Slot has carried it on."

Fantastic performance, one of the best of the season. As bad as West Ham were, we were relentless especially in midfield.

Nice to keep a clean sheet too. Another bonus was ensuring Gakpo and Gravenberch didn't get booked and suspended - next match is Man Utd at home.

Nice easy 3 points and few more goals against united

@KingKhanWC looks like it's in the bag and bag Is closed

Liverpool are on fire esp up front but I wouldnt say its over...yet. The defence has 3 key injuries now , Konate, Gomez, Bradley. Any more will make it very tough to hold onto the defensive record. Konate is near coming back which is very positive.

You can never rule out anything in sport esp football but Yes it will be an upset if LFC lose it from here.

Keep this form up and it will be over by March.

More like the mother of all bottle jobs, if Liverpool screw it up from here.

As mentioned in the other thread, that was a big letoff. Utd should've won.

Trent and Robertson nowhere near good enough. Sick of seeing opposition get so much joy against them. We always look vulnerable down the flanks.

Bradley and Tsimikas should take over as first choice.

Reminder the title race is far from over especially with tough aways at Forest, Brentford, Man City (even in this state), Fulham, Bournemouth, Brighton and Chelsea to come.

I forgot to mention Everton away - they'll be up for it given it's the last Derby at Goodison Park.

Trent has always been a poor defender, lacks the desire to defend and the positional awareness too, always found the suggestions from some that he can play in midfield laughable for those very reasons

Robertson looks like his legs have gone and age has caught up with him, Liverpool should be looking to sign Robinson or Kerkez asap

As a defender, TAA won’t look out of place in Southampton. Real Madrid is aware of this but they want his talent on the ball which is exceptional for sure.

It was a great game of football in the 2nd half, good old derby match with both teams going for the win . Utd played their best match of the season.

Liverpool had an avg day at the office compared to recent form . But its still a good point advantage with a rest next weekend as we have a cup tie .

Yes good game. But for me UTD tactically out did Liverpool. They really exposed both Trent and Robertson defensively.

And as Roy keane said, forget Real Madrid, Tranmere Rovers would be put off with that performance.

A bit harsh to say exposed Trent and Robbo are attacking full backs, this is nothing new its the style of play but weren't at their best . All players have off days.

Utd drew but many fans are celebrating a point lol . Play us 10 times at Anfield, you'll draw 3 and lose 7 . However utd have a proper manager now so things will improve quicker

I'm actually disappointed we didn't win, and in general form goes out of the window in these fixtures.

Even during our dominant periods under Fergie, Liverpool v Utd game was played on emotions rather than form.

Yep, form does go out of the window, LFC beat Utd with a very poor team 1-4 at Old Trafford in the past. This is why you cannot call such games as easy wins.

Imo 1 point is still very good for Utd. It seemed as Utd can win, they maybe should have at the end but Liverpool were more dominated as per stats and should have buried this match at 2-1. LFC 2.87exgoals - Utd 0.99.

This time of year, the energy and stamina is key. LFC have a good few days for the bigger players unless we play them v Spurs.

Elon Musk’s dad explains Liverpool links and Beatles connection as takeover talk grows

Elon Musk’s dad has explained why the family has such a strong connection to Liverpool - and suggested his son would 'love' to buy the Premier League club.

The world's richest man, who owns companies including Tesla, SpaceX and the social media platform X, has been linked with buying an English football team in the past.

And now his interest is making headlines again - thanks to his own dad.

Speaking to Kait Borsay on Times Radio, Errol Musk revealed his son has 'expressed a desire' in the Premier League leaders.

"Does your son want to buy Liverpool Football Club?" Borsay asked.

"I can't comment on that, they'll raise the price. I can't comment on that," Errol jokingly responded.

Borsay, a Liverpool fan herself, then pressed him further on the issue, as it 'means a lot' to her and other supporters.

She enquired: "Has he expressed a desire to buy Liverpool Football Club?"

"Oh yes, oh yes - but that doesn't mean he's buying it, you know," Errol said.

"He would like to, yes. Obviously. Anyone would want to. So would I."

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk has a net worth of $439 billion (£350m).

Their empire, founded by John W Henry, is said to be worth just shy of $13bn (£10.4bn), making Musk roughly 32 times richer.

According to Forbes, Liverpool are the fourth most valuable football club in the world, with an estimated value of $5.7bn (£4.3bn)

That amounts to just over 1% of Musk’s total net worth.

There has been no indication that FSG is open to selling Liverpool, and last summer Henry noted that their commitment to the club was 'stronger than ever'.

But it's a story that got Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist speaking about it on talkSPORT.

McCoist doesn't believe it, but he joked he would love to see Musk at Rangers.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, he said: "Just for the record I'd take him at Rangers for a season OK?

"It is a shambles really, it cannot be a story."

However, co-host Brazil could see it happening.

He said: "But you see what happened at Wrexham and at Birmingham - you just don't know these days."

And McCoist does believe that Musk's arrival would resolve Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk's contract situations.

The trio are all into the last six months of their deals at Anfield, with no new ones in sight.

So, a takeover by one of the world's richest men would certainly solve that problem.

McCoist said: "What it might do is it might guarantee Salah, van Dijk, and Trent getting their money right enough and signing new contracts."

During his interview with Times Radio, Errol went on to reveal that the Musk family have strong ties to the city.

"My mother - (Elon's) grandmother - was born in Liverpool and we have relatives in Liverpool," he explained.

"We were fortunate to know quite a few of The Beatles, because they grew up with us, my family, and so we're really attached to Liverpool."

Back in 2022, he briefly sent the hearts of Manchester United fans racing, tweeting claims that he was buying the club.

Silly ref decision but Spurs played well and deserved the win . It's not surprising Spurs have so many injuries with the way they play.

Liverpool can come back & win 2nd leg , not a terrible result

Alexander-Arnold not to blame for goals conceded – Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he recognises patterns in the goals his side concede - but they are not down to right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold was heavily criticised following the Reds being held to a 2-2 draw by Manchester United on Sunday.

United scored their first through Lisandro Martinez with an attack down Liverpool's right and their second came from Amad Diallo converting a cross from the right.

According to football statisticians Opta, Liverpool's opponents are having 44% of their touches in the left third in the attacking areas - this would be Liverpool's right-hand side - which is the highest ratio in the Premier League.

The percentage of opposition chances from Liverpool's right is 35.7% while it is 38.1% from the middle third and 26.2% from the Reds' left.

"I do see a certain pattern in the goals we concede but I don't see the pattern if it is about Trent. Not at all," said Slot.

"Trent has had one difficult game for us [in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield] and maybe a few that were OK to good. Mainly, he has had great games when he played for us this season."

Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, came on as a substitute after an hour in the first leg of Liverpool's Carabao Cup semi-final at Tottenham.

The England international had a shot cleared off the line in a game the Reds lost 1-0.

"I know there is a lot of focus on him at the moment but I would also like to highlight the focus on how well he did when he came on in the last half hour [against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday] and how our fans reacted to him. That is what pleased me even more during that game."

Liverpool host Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round on Saturday (12:15 GMT) and, while Slot is expected to rotate his squad for the game, he knows his team will have to be prepared for the challenge of facing the League Two side.

"I think every team that plays against us, it is a special occasion but especially for a lower league team," said the Dutchman.

"They will be up for it, they have looked forward to this game for many weeks.

"If you go to a Champions League final, everyone is completely hyped up and ready and, for them, that will feel like it is the Champions League final, so we have to be aware of that.

"It's up to us to be ready for them wanting to play the best game of their lives and that is what we have to do as well."

Excellent performance. For a mishmash side of kids and fringe players you'd think these had played together their whole life.

Happy Chiesa got minutes and a goal having coming close a few times before. Danns dare I say looks a more natural goalscorer than Nunez who typically made a meal of a really good chance before our opener. He's quicker than I thought and should be on the bench even for PL/CL matches.

Ngumoha has crazy assuredness on the ball for a 16 year old. Endo reliable as ever and proving a useful CB option.

Credit to Accrington, they were brave and you could see it was a dream day out for them. I'm sure Bumble, who's a diehard Accrington fan and director, would've enjoyed himself.

Big game against Forest tomorrow night. I'm far more nervous about this than the Man Utd game. Forest are a well coached side and their fast wingers can exploit our defensive vulnerabilities out wide.

Hope Jota starts as not sure Diaz as a false #9 will work against Forest's low block. That tactic seems more suited for big pitches and expansive opponents.

Slot's still fuming about the Forest defeat at Anfield so hopefully lessons will be learned. Draw not catastrophic, Liverpool historically have a poor record at the City Ground, but a win would be massive.

Yes, this will be a difficult game for Liverpool, Notts play in a way which provides a lot of issues for Liverpool, both in defence and attack. Nuno has done an excellent job with some very good players at his disposal.

Liverpool players rested well over the weekend so need to come out all guns blazing, take it to Notts and try to score early and score first. If LFC go 0-1 up in the first half, they could open up Notts and score a few more. If Notts score first, it will be tough to get 3 points.

Jota should have had 3 goals here, he's changed game.

Still 1-1

1-1 at Forest is not a bad result in the context of the season, but still it is two points dropped. The cracks are beginning to appear, Liverpool have not looked good for a number of games now.

Looks like their fluke run is coming to an end. They clearly overachieved in the first half of the season because they are not a very good side. Arsenal must be ready to pounce if they fall apart.

Liverpool without Salah saving them is barely a top 4 side.

We called it. Frustrating to concede from their first chance of the game.

Dreadful first half attacking wise. Countless overhit passes, long shots not even hitting the target.

Second half was infinitely better with manager getting his subs spot on. GK was Forest's best player.

As I said we cannot use Diaz as a regular #9. He stopped a really promising counterattack in the first half. Great workrate but man's a winger.

Salah's been off it since new year. Any other player and they're getting subbed. He had enough chances to win it.

Overall a decent point against a well drilled side, but must improve for Brentford.

Very good match to watch, at least with LFC you are entertained unlike some of the dross other teams shows.

The first half was strange, were the players told to shoot from the distance at every opportunity?

The energy was brilliant from the players but they were up against a very fired up and confident Notts team esp in the first half.

2nd half was dominated by us, really should have scored 3/4 in the end. I agree Diaz is better on the wing. Imo he should often swap with Salah , who really shouldn't be on the wing so much now ,as he is the top goal scorer. It was tough for Salah, at times Notts had 3 defenders around him, this is where Slot needs to show some adaption.

This was the toughest away game imo, its out of the way now. A point away is not bad but now LFC need to go a winning run of 3/4 games at least.

The points difference is still good, Arsenal could bottle it against Spurs tonight, if they do, no change to the situation which is fine.

What a relief ! Nothing less than we deserved. Nearly all the play was in their box.

Diaz had a shocker. The only way we were gonna win was off the bench, and fair play to the much maligned Darwin Nunez. Invaluable 3 pts.

@KingKhanWC - Not bad from the "mentally R" Nunez as per the resident Peshawar Dr

The usual once per season fluke by Nunez. He did it last season at Newcastle as well.

Liverpool got lucky today, but these late winners are mentally taxing and will take its toll them.

Liverpool are jaded and running out of ideas. Salah as usual disappearing this time of the year.

Arsenal must be licking its lips right now, but it is important to get the job done today.

Emery and Martinez getting owned is always a pleasure to witness.

There are moments in the season where you'll not get 3 points but in all matches liverpool came back , stayed determined and believed.

I always feel If we dont concede first , our game to win until the final whistle. Players gave it all and Nunez turned up even if in injury time, great win , champions mentality .

Mohamed Salah scored his 50th European goal for Liverpool as the Reds booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with victory over 10-man Lille at Anfield.

Salah's goal came when he latched onto a brilliant Curtis Jones through ball and slotted over the advancing Lucas Chevalier in the 34th minute.

Lille, who were unbeaten in 21 games in all competitions, had restricted Liverpool until then but Arne Slot's side controlled the game after the goal.

Salah sent another one-on-one wide, before curling just past the far post in the second half.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men just before the half mark when Aissa Mandi was given a second yellow card for tripping Luis Diaz. His first was complaining about a possible foul on Jonathan David in the build-up to the goal.

They surprisingly equalised three minutes later when David passed home after Hakon Haraldsson's effort was blocked.

Liverpool soon restored their advantage though when a corner was headed clear to Harvey Elliott and his deflected strike found the bottom corner.

Darwin Nunez, who started after his two stoppage-time goals in Liverpool's Premier League win at Brentford on Saturday, had a late goal ruled out for offside following Federico Chiesa's effort being tipped away.

The win is Liverpool's seventh in the new-look league phase and continues their 100% record in the competition.

They will be seeded for the last 16 when it takes place in March and will face one of the eight sides that make it through February's play-offs.

Massive win against an excellent team. Rode our luck at times but we worked so hard defensively, controlled the game and showed the mentality of champions.

So proud of the players and management especially when our rivals have gone to Bournemouth and haven't won.
