News broke of this in the last half an hour or so. I sometimes go for Jummah here so this is quite shocking.

We don't know the full details of this yet in terms of who the perpetrator is and what his motive was.

Images from inside the mosque showed a white man wearing a red hooded top, jeans and with bare feet being pinned to the floor by police officers.

Witnesses suggested on social media the victim had been stabbed in the neck.

One video showed a knife on the floor under a plastic chair.

The London Ambulance Service said the injured man has been taken to a major trauma centre.

The service tweeted: "We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a car and an advanced paramedic practitioner to this incident in Regent's Park.

"We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre."

Miqdaad Versi, from the Muslim Council of Britain, said he had been told by people inside the mosque that the attack took place while preparations were being made for afternoon prayers.

"It is deeply concerning that this has happened... Given other recent attacks elsewhere many Muslims are on edge," he said.

I'm a bit confused. When a guy recently went around stabbing people he was shot dead. But this guy is arrested? This too was a terrorist attack or does the criteria change when the ethnicity is different

BBC says the arrested man was a regular to the mosque for a few months.

The Muslim terrorist was already being followed by the police almost immediately after release, they were well prepared for his attack. Luckily he wasn't that well prepared himself, hence he stole a £3.99 kitchen knife instead of buying it, and tried to stab people while it was still in it's wrapping, despite owning a manual on knife skills.

Also, he was a wannabe martyr so he was wearing a fake suicide vest. Maybe the white vigilante was not interested in dying so put his hands up straight away when challenged?

Most of these crimes are committed by mentally ill. Who in their right mind would go around killing people they don't know.

Exactly.
The guy who stabbed the people a few weeks ago was so brainwashed that he told his wife to do something with her parents.

But Tubs i don't think called him a mentally ill person

People being attacked in mosques, churches, temples. Is ther nothing sacred any more?

That man went and stabbed multiple people and would have continued on had he not been shot. This guy stabbed the one person and obviously did not need to be shot to stop him from attacking others.

How do you (or they) knew that he wasn’t going to stab anyone else after that?

When this story first broke I wondered if it would have similarities with the Christchurch terrorist attack, but turns out this incident was a bit different, as the assailant was known to the mosque and possibly professed to be a Muslim himself.

My personal suspicion is that a white hate group used one of their own to infiltrate the worshippers so he could gradually gain their trust and then “convert”, which would have made it easy for him to map out the building and plan his attack.

Imams getting stabbed
Whose next the dalai lama or the archbishop of canterbury

It was only last year a Muslim imam was knighted by Prince William for his response to a similar attack on Muslims during Ramadan

Wow! Mosques should increase security. Also, everyone should learn self-defense techniques.

This clown should get locked up indefinitely. Let prison inmates deal with him.

How do you (or they) knew that he wasn’t going to stab anyone else after that?

Because he didn't stab any of the other people around him? Either he was easily restrained by bystanders before the arrival of police or he was there only to stab the one person.

If he wanted to stab that one person, he could've done it outside mosque. If he entered the mosque to stab, it means he probably wanted to stab as many as he could.

Good news is he didn't kill anyone. He just threw away his life.

My immediate thought of looking at his facial expressions was he looked hypnotised.

So all that drama to just stab a 70 years old Imam?

There gotta be more to it.

Outside the mosque doesn't invoke the same fear or create as many headlines. That said, I obviously don't know his intentions but my initial reply was to someone who was trying to imply that this guy wasn't shot because he's white, when it's obvious that if he did not stab anyone between the time of stabbing the first victim and the arrival of police, then he wasn't an active enough threat to warrant being eliminated

London Central Mosque stabbing: Man is arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing inside a central London mosque.

The victim, in his 70s, was injured in an attack at London Central Mosque, near Regent's Park, which police are not treating as terror-related.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics where his condition has been assessed as non-life threatening.

A 29-year-old man was apprehended by worshippers who broke from prayer to restrain him until police arrived.

In a statement, the mosque said the injured man was the muezzin, the person who makes the call to prayer, and he had been stabbed shortly after 15:00 GMT during afternoon prayer.

The mosque's director general, Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan said he had a brief phone conversation with the muezzin in hospital, who said he was "okay and feeling well".

Ayaz Ahmad, an adviser to the mosque, said the stabbing "would have been life-threatening if it wasn't for the worshippers".

Images from inside the mosque showed a man wearing a red hooded top, jeans and with bare feet being pinned to the floor by police officers.
One video showed a knife on the floor under a plastic chair.

Mustafa Field, director of the Faiths Forum for London, told reporters the attack was "one stab, one strike, around the neck" of the victim.

He said: "Then the congregation members, some of them broke their prayers, and intervened, restrained the individual."

Abi Watik, who witnessed the attack, said the arrested man had been seen at the mosque previously and the muezzin was stabbed once in the shoulder.

"He was praying behind him [the muezzin] and then he stabbed him.

"He was waiting for him I think to start praying. He was right behind him."

The 59-year-old added that the suspect "was silent the whole time".
Dr Al Dubayan said: "We are so sad about what has happened and we hope it's just one off incident, not related or motivated by any kind of hatred."

Miqdaad Versi, from the Muslim Council of Britain, said: "It is deeply concerning that this has happened... Given other recent attacks elsewhere, many Muslims are on edge," he said.

Police believe the attack was an isolated incident and have increased patrols around the area to "provide reassurance to worshippers and the local community".

Ch Supt Helen Harpe said: "A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and he has been taken into custody.

"The man is believed to have been attending prayers inside the mosque.

"This incident has undoubtedly caused a great deal of concern and we are working as swiftly as possible to establish the circumstances."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson he was "deeply saddened" by the stabbing and his "thoughts are with the victim and all those affected".

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the Met Police would be "providing extra resources in the area" following the attack.

"Every Londoner is entitled to feel safe in their place of worship," he tweeted.

London Central Mosque stabbing: Man in court over attack

A man has been charged with a stabbing which happened inside London's Central Mosque during afternoon prayers.

Daniel Horton, 29, is accused of attacking Raafat Maglad at the Regent's Park place of worship on Thursday.

Mr Maglad, who is 70, sustained stab wounds to his neck that were inflicted with a kitchen knife.

Mr Horton, who is homeless, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court earlier accused of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article.

Prosecutor Tanyia Dogra told the court the victim and defendant were known to each other because Mr Horton had been attending the mosque for a number of years.

The accused, whom the court heard had been sleeping rough since last year, was remanded into custody.

He is expected to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 20 March.

The court was told Mr Maglad had suffered a 1.5cm wound to his neck.

He was taken to hospital for treatment before returning to the mosque for prayers the next day.

Mr Maglad who is a muezzin - someone who calls Muslims to prayer - said it was "very important" for him to attend Friday prayers.

"If I miss it, I just miss something very important," Mr Maglad said.

It is time to put a proper leash on all these neo-alt-right hate spreaders.

Xenophobia shouldn't be tolerated.

Well done Mr. Maglad. So the terrorist **** can see we don't fear them.

Exactly!

These Alt-Right scums think they can scare Muslims using violence. If God protects someone, nobody can harm that person.

I don't think it is time yet. Trump and Boris are leading their respective nations, so at the moment it seems time for the alt-right to flourish. I mean that is the reality, is it not?
